I don't remember her hating a movie either. But I thought I was going to see her hate one going by the comments here.

Good reaction, even though you didn’t like this one very much. I am glad that you understood some of the satire though. As violent as this movie is, it can be looked at as a full on satire in a lot of ways, both of consumer culture and of action movies. If you ever get to Starship Troopers, that is also a satire.

I don't think Cassie has ever "hated" a movie on this channel. Sure, there are some that she liked more than others and some she wasn't a big fan of (Pulp Fiction comes to mind). If she doesn’t like a movie then she will find positive things to say about it.

I love how the people who didn't want Cassie to watch Robocop blatantly overstate how she felt about it. If you didn't watch her reaction and just went by the comments here you'd think she hated it and was traumatized by it. I'm not saying she liked it but her reaction wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

I had a feeling you wouldn't like this movie, but at least you tried! at least there was some stuff you thought were good, but it's understandable why you wouldn't like this movie! you'd be surprised to hear this, but my parents actually let me watch this movie when I was like 9 or 10 years old😱lol😂 at that time, my parents taught me a lot about make-believe and reality, so they taught me well to know that despite the violence in this movie, it's not real lol! Robocop remains one of my favorite Sci-Fi Action movies of all time, next to Terminator! if you ever decide to watch the other two, good luck with the second one! it's a bit more violent and has some slightly more gore, personally I hate the second one, it has so many flaws and annoying characters, it's like a bad after taste in my mouth! however and you might find this surprising, I actually like the 3rd one over the second one, and I actually think you would like it more as well! yes I agree the third one is cheesy and less violent, but I think it has good action and has a villain that you just want to hate and feel satisfied when he gets his just desserts! plus, I like the 3rd one on a personal level because it has a special place in my heart! why, because one of it's actors, the late Daniel Von Bargen, a well renowned character actor whom I admired for many years throughout my life, was actually a childhood friend of my father when he was a kid! so any movie that has him in it, always a place in my heart no matter how bad the movie is! people can say what they want, but given your personality Cassie lol, you'd like the 3rd one, I'm sure of it! I still enjoyed your shocked facial expressions during this reaction, still laughing my head off lol! can't wait to see what's next, take care, much love and support🥰😁😉👍

I knew this wouldn't be your cup of tea, Cassie but I'm proud of you for sticking with it. I honestly thought you'd bail after Murphy's execution. It is a classic with an underlying sadness and Murphy sort of a Christ-like figure. You see the parallels in several places. Part 2 is even more violent and downright sadistic...if you're considering it. Part 3 is hot garbage and best avoided.

You're entitled to your opinion. Millions disagree. The fact that it won a Hugo Award in 1960 and is on the "Recommended Reading List" of all three American Military Academies says there may be something to it.

I was a little caught off-guard when this came up on the list of movies you were watching. While it is certainly graphic, even when watching it as a child, it is definitely of its time. A lot of movies in the 80s excelled in graphic violence, sadly, yet this one is a bit of a time-piece. I can fully understand that it wasn't your cup of tea, not by a long shot. I probably would have been in the "I don't think you should watch it" or "I don't think you'd like it" camps if I had heard earlier that it was on your radar. There are certainly more graphic movies out there, a few of them by the same director, but I applaud the honesty in your review. Total Recall is probably one of my favourites by Paul Verhoeven, but you won't escape the violence there either. But it is likely one of the best movies of Arnold's career.

I'm sorry it seemed like she had a hard time getting past the violence and thus missed the film's themes...but given her well-known abhorrence of violence this likely surprised no one.
Still impressed that she watched it.

It's a wonderful satire of '80s U.S. culture (especially corporate culture), and Weller does a masterful job of conveying Murphy's emotions even in that plastic suit. There are running gags (like the "6000 SUX" luxury car everyone wants) that pay off with multiple viewings.
But of course the ROBOCOP violence is so sadistic it's hard for a lot of people to get past. (That scene of Murphy getting shot to pieces was a rough watch when I saw it on a big screen.) Director Paul Verhoeven apparently learned his lesson, since STARSHIP TROOPERS still has the over-the-top violence but it's far more cartoonish and I think the satire was more understandable.

I agree wholeheartedly. Cassie by her own admission had previously thought LOTR to be "not her thing" only to watch it for the channel and fall in love with it. Yet, some movies are suggested and commenters here are apoplectic at how unsuitable they think they are for Cassie as if she needs to be shielded. I'm all for broadening horizons and going beyond comfort zones and encourage people to watch whatever they feel comfortable watching and sometimes what they feel discomfort watching. The latter is often the maker of the most interesting reaction.

In 1987, this movie was social commentary, (as in Warning!) this is what the future will look like if we continue down the path of consumerism, apathy and hedonism. All this time later, I'd like to think we are not living in that future, but then, sometimes, I think it's not that far off *Shiver!* This was the best version and I don't recommend the two sequels (Robocop 2 and Robocop 3) which I felt were poor imitators at best.

Personally, I love this movie, however, (along with Starship Troopers) it is often maligned - they had a lot to say, although, famously the movie going public, along with reviewers, frequently missed the point entirely. I'm glad Cassie is open to watching movies like this, and appreciate her honest reaction, in this case it was not her thing, but the channel started with the premise of her watching movies she would not normally watch, and not all are going to hit. Each to their own at the end of the day, but I loved the reaction anyway, I would have preferred had she enjoyed it more, but this is why I subscribe, a great, honest reaction as usual.

There was a 90s Robocop kids cartoon tie-in on the film, and its sequel (in fact, there were several cartoons like that, such as one based on Beetlejuice and one based on The Toxic Avenger, etc.)

It's a satire wrapped up in the trappings of an 80s action film. It's an absolutely brilliant piece of filmmaking in terms of direction and tonal control. It works on so many levels, but if you just want a kick ass 80s action film, you'll be satisfied.

Satire is the word, but it has somewhat of a serious undercurrent. Director Paul Verhoeven saw how to a large extent movie audiences wanted increasingly more violence so in a way he satirized the movie's own audience by making it completely over the top. The society created in the film has media all completely enthralled with violence and kids' games are all about nuclear war. Murphy remembering his wife and son gives the film the hidden heart it needs along with Lewis. But yeah, I can see how it can repel your eyes, but I like how the film's quite conscious of what it's doing.

I instantly thought of the toxic waste scene coming and was like “ohh nooo” 😂😂 Cassie would probably like the remake better, it’s a bit tamer with a slightly lighter tone since it’s PG-13, but it’s actually not too bad, in my opinion lol

'Why do people recommend movies they like instead of the films I think are appropriate?' do you people even hear yourselves? And if Cassie wants to stop seeing films that are "dark/disturbing/scary/gory" she could stop watching horror films at Halloween, for starters. But she hasn't done that, has she? And if she did do that, while I would be disappointed, I'd respect her wishes. But as for the wishes of the people in the comments section, I don't give a >BLEEP<. While I rarely recommend films myself, for several reasons, I will vote in the polls for the films I want to see, and yes, some of those will be challenging for her. But I have yet to see anything seriously put forward that would actually hurt Cassie. There are definitely films that would scar her - and I'd be the first to warn her about them.

ROBOCOP is a masterpiece, but it's not for everyone. I knew going in Cassie would be put off by the violence and the tone. It's a movie of its time. I would have picked 12 other '80s movies ahead of this one for her to react to. I think it's more fun when she discovers something new that she actually likes and broadens her cinematic horizons. Suggesting ultra-violent movies without something more for her to connect to (like the love story in BRAVEHEART) is just punishing her, IMO. God help her if TERRIFIER ever wins a poll.

I remember seeing commercials for both RoboCop and Starship Troopers when each was released... and having the same reaction to both of them: Wow, that looks pretty stupid. I was 14 when RoboCop came out, and 24 when Starship Troopers was released. I remember watching some of RoboCop when it aired on network tv many years ago, and I tried watching some of Starship Troopers on Netflix once. Suspicions confirmed.

Why are you all making Cassie watch horrible gory nihilistic stuff like this? There are so many great movies she hasn’t seen that I think she would love, or at least be entertained or intrigued by: City Lights; Five Easy Pieces; Tootsie; Splash; Diva; Wings of Desire; It’s Always Fair Weather; Dr Strangelove; Brassed Off; You can’t take it with you; The Killing Fields; Harold and Maude; Saturday Night Fever; Children of Paradise; Life of Brian;Fanny and Alexander; Start the Revolution without me; Paris, Texas; Repo Man; Plague Dogs; From Here to Eternity; Dark Star. Not all of these are masterpieces, they vary widely in tone, and there’s even some sci-fi in there, but it at least it would get her on a different type of film that I think she would appreciate more.

Great example of why I love your reactions Cassie! This director is known for using this style in his films. Over-the-top satire and stereotypes, heavy on the gore, use of the "newscast & commercials" to progress the backstory. He's responsible for one of the worst, if not the worst film adaptations of a great novel in the history of mankind with "Starship Troopers". The film isn't horrible in of itself, though it's nothing special in my opinion. When compared to the source material though, as an adaptation, it sucks even worse than "Dune" (1985)
