The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended) - w/ Carly!

This was beyond fun to experience this with Carly, and for myself again? I immediately had feelings of nostalgia and felt like I was seeing my friends again. This was definitely a different watch now that I know the ending things in hindsight and it might have been even better!

Here's a quick message from Carly (she's finally on Patreon so she'll be checking out the comments!):

The first Lord of the Rings… was the perfect combination of magical and suspense. I actually really love fantasy, but I had always though lotr would be mostly battle, and that the Orcs would be too much for me. Well… the Orcs were too much for me, but I really loved the story. Can’t wait to see the rest of Frodo and the fellowships journey!!

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended) - w/ Carly!

Comments

In the books he was given a golden belt, which he was laid to rest with in the end.

MSP138

One thing I've only just realised, having watched the extended editions countless times: Boromir is the only member of the Fellowship who doesn't receive a gift from the elves, and the only one who doesn't survive to return to Rivendell with the others near the end.

Chris Clarke

I usually don't like it when any of the reactors have already seen the movie before, but this reaction is the exception that proves it can be done, and wonderfully at that. This is the second time I've watched this full reaction with Cassie and Carly and I enjoyed it this time even more than than I did the first time.

Richard Maurer

For those with the 2-disc 4k version, if you want to start at disc 2 the timestamp is 1:45:38:53

AdrianF

I love how when the Balrog falls, Carly is excited and Cassie is already tearing up knowing it's not over.

Andrew Myers

Celebrian was kidnapped by orcs and they tortured and poisoned her. She was eventually rescued by her sons Elrohir and Elladan, and although Elrond was able to cure her of the poison, the trauma proved too much for her so she sailed to Valinor. Sad story, really.

Joel P

Yoda/Dumbledore/Gandalf? Gandalf wins hands down. He is the only one who is basically a demigod and that trumps the Force or any human wizardry. Yoda would be second and our favorite Headmaster third.

MertzRocks

You can tell Carly is really into it cause of the way she dodges and ducks her head when a character is dodging and ducking in the movie.

Crow Xiong

Its so fun to see you being fully fangirling over these now the second watch doesnt have the same fell as the first watch, but it has a whole other feelings because you know the story so at some points you feel even more for the charcaters. Anyway really enjoying both of you watching this.

samuel Jakob

Boromir and Faramir's biggest problem was their mentally ill father.

Steve Smith

My dad gave me the books in fourth grade and introduced me to them by showing me the Hildebrandt calendars that had come out in I believe the 70s. Because of this I knew about Boromir dying before reading the books and I remember very distinctly my dad telling me that Boromir was someone who made some mistakes but was still a good and honorable man. That always stuck with me and I am ready to throw hands in a heartbeat at anyone judging him harshly.

China Andronicus

FINALLY got time to watch this tonight and it was amazing as always. I know your probably in a bit tight spot not being able to say spoil anything for Carly but the reaction was just great. Not much to add that everyone else hasn't. These are my favorite movies of all time no doubt (And Fellowship easily the best of the 3) and I am so happy that Carly is totally on board.

My_Cousin_Mose

Cassie shared your meme on instagram, https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl_iF7oOWT0

Jon Johns

Boramir's father is a steward of the throne, not a king. Gondor has no king. And Boromir is not heir to the throne. That is Aragorn's path.

MotoDork

**added spoiler** multiple actors/actresses purchased "their" horse in the movies because of the bond they had formed with them while filming

Mitch Wells

Highly recommend watching the behind the scenes sooner than later. Great interviews that only get you so much closer to the characters. All three movies were filmed at the same time so the boring the scenes is really like a documentary of the year and a half they all spent in New Zealand. I especially like the bonus features in ROTK because they have a feature on the work with all the horses which is really impressed me as an animal lover.

Mitch Wells

I had to come back for this! Had some financial problems recently, but I guess 10 bucks is nothing nowadays especially for long form content that soothes my aching heart!

Scott Macaulay

A good as this movie is at telling the story, there is also much that you miss from the book itself. The Hobbits weapons were forged by an ancient race that fought evil, so they have runes inscribed on them , which is why t hey are able to fight the orcs and goblins ( and Witch King). Also the Hobbits have a natural protecting against the ring, which is why Frodo is not swayed by the ring, though it is slowly eroding his will

Duane B. Carl

Carly!!!! ♥ Hope you read Wizard's first rule? Also you guys should watch Alita: Battle Angel together!

Jayson Phillips

Oh boy, here we go again! My favorite movie of all time. Great to see another person experiencing this!

LordGrailKnight

It's fantastic watching both of your reactions to this stunning trilogy. I am hoping that you both carry on and watch the Hobbit trilogy together also.

Robert C

The Fellowship walk rather than ride because it's a secret mission. Horses leave footprints, poop, they require feeding, they cannot go a lot of places, they'd have to stay on the roads, where the enemy will be watching. Additionally its thematic. 9 Walkers against the 9 Riders (Nazgul.)

S1lm4r1l

Yessss Zac!

Carly Popcorn

Definitely recommend watching the behind the scenes documentaries! It doesn’t take away from the experience at all! Only enhances it! I’ve actually found myself rewatching the behind the scenes docs multiple times over the years. Something I’ve never done with any other film.

Jeff Milcheck

Sums it up perfectly!

Damon

I still love Aragorn putting on Boromir's bracers at the end and wearing them the rest of the movies.

Timothy Burrows

That is perfect!

Robert Haynes

So great to see that Carly is hooked on LOTR, and I can't wait for "Two Towers". Also, I made this: https://imgur.com/a/BAMUBxN

Finally had the time to watch this today. First of all, I'm really glad you opted for the extended cut. I think it is overall a fuller experience and does not feel as long as it actually is. I personally can't go back to the theatrical cuts, so much of the little character moments and secondary story lines are missing. Unlike the Hobbit movies, where even the theatrical is too long IMO, there is more than enough material here to fill the time. I admit I'm no fan of non first time reactions and was mainly expecting to enjoy Carly's reaction this time, but it was also interesting to see Cassie's reaction knowing what will happen and expecting certain moments (like her seeing Aragorn the first time 😃). I think this has a lot to do with LOTR might be the most influential and favorite thing she has seen for the channel. As for why does it look so great and real? Apart from the amazing care, dedication and craftsmanship the cast and crew had I think it was created just the right time as well. It was still the early days of CGI. Terminator 2 was made only a decade before this, the first Jurassic Park 8 years prior. So the technology was no longer in its infancy, but wasn't nearly as capable as a few years later or today. So, especially in this first movie, they only used it for things which could not have been done otherwise and what they did use for was quite pioneering too. Quite a lot of what we can see in the movies was real and this also elevates the realism of Middle Earth. They used very clever optical tricks, real set pieces with blue/green screen backgrounds filled with gorgeous matte paintings, a lot of very detailed and amazing miniatures and relied heavily on prosthetics and masks. A lot of these even just a few years later probably would have been CGI instead, just like showcased in the Hobbit movies which doesn't look nearly as good and feels much more artificial because of that. The behind the scenes is really worth watching. Cassie's comment regarding horses made me remember a movie, so leaving it here as a suggestion: Hidalgo (2004). Starring Viggo Mortensen, it the apparently not so true story about Frank Hopkins' competition in a deadly cross desert horse race in Arabia.

Gábor Árki

Out of all of the characters within the story, my favourite is Boromir. I was drawn to him as a kid watching the Ralph Bakshi film. I feel like he is the most real of all the characters because of his flaws and how he over comes them and gives his life for the saviour of others. I’ve recently just listened again to BBC Radio adaption of LOTR and they go hand in hand with these films!

Biggman83

People who hate LotR are definitely suspect, as in I'd be very wary around them. What other awful personality traits could they be hiding?

Richard Maurer

Perfect excuse to rewatch the trilogy!

Odd Thomas

I'll add Silverfall to my list! And yeah haha, WOTC is good for that.

My_Cousin_Mose

May be a top 5 reaction for me, I can't put into words how excellent both your reactions were as both first time and second time reactors.

Choof

The current ruler of Gondor is steward of Gondor; Aragon is the rightful Heir.

Steve H

I love these movies. Not homework.

napalm755

I'm so glad Carly likes it! Let's go!

napalm755

The Book "Lord of the Rings" was Tolkin's Life work; it's worthy of anyone's devotion of a day, to watch the whole thing I did it with friends over; one rest break-all day. I did it on New Years day.

Steve H

I guess there is so much media to catch up on. It didn't used to be this way.

Philip Davetas

Definitely not homework. I hated homework and rarely did it. I love watching these movies.

Brian McGovern

Maybe, but I still think all 3 should have won.

Richard Maurer

You have to set aside time to do any full watch along. With LotR you just have to set aside a little more time. What's the big deal?

Richard Maurer

Needed to add that I agree with Carly, out of Yoda, Gandalf and Dumbledore. I would have picked Dumbledore as the most powerful.

Zac

Ah thanks Robert! And I'm ready for Two Towers now as well! haha

Carly Popcorn

Yes. Cassie is easy to read.

Rick Williams

I like these movies. But I feel like they're homework. You have to set aside time for that.

Philip Davetas

I only remember two books where she is a main character (and I've read all of them before Wizards if the Coast started killing off everything)- *Silverfall: Stories of the Seven Sisters* and *Elminster in Hell*, but I may be forgetting one or two (maybe in The Harpers series?). I highly recommend Silverfall.

Mike Lemon

I highly recommend the special features. They didn't take away my enjoyment of the films at all, but deepened it.

Ben Livingstone

At this point in Tolkien's history, Galadriel is the oldest elf still dwelling in Middle-Earth. She is good, but has been a witness to many thousands of years of history. So she can be quite scary at times with her knowledge and foresight. Really awesome to watch this again with you both. I swear I've probably watched this movie 30 times and Boromir's death ALWAYS wrecks me. Carly caught on quite quickly to the little details in the lore that are sometimes missed by other reactors. It can be difficult to catch everything in a movie like this with so many "main" characters and locations and names. Can't wait for The Two Towers!

Marty McGee

Yeah Elrond was married to Celebrian the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. But Celebrian was gravely wounded somehow (can't remember exactly), and took a ship to Valinor, the undying lands that the Elves eventually all yearn to return to.

Marty McGee

Thanks! I said before that I read Forgotten Realms but more specifically I've read the Drizzt books (or most of them anyway). What is the first book I'd wanna read if I wanted to read her story?

My_Cousin_Mose

Celebrían is Arwen's mother - Galadriel is her grandmother

Kristin Carter

Welcome to Patreon, Carly! And thank you both for this, it was lots of fun watching Cassie revisit this world now that she knows more about it, and it was a delight watching Carly experience it properly for the first time. Thank you Carly for being willing to watch the Extended Editions. I know they're quite a bit longer, but I do think they provide a better viewing experience. I can't wait to enjoy the other two movies with you ladies!

Patrick Egan

So, Galadriel is Arwen's mama. Her and Elrond were together for an age or so. After Frodo is stabbed at Weathertop, the three Trolls from the Hobbit can be seen in the background i.e. as they search for the Kingsfoil and Arwen holds a sword to her beloved neck. BTW. Sean Bean (Boromir) is also seen in Patriot Games and Game of Thrones. I enjoyed your reaction. I cannot say how many times I read the books as a kid. I actually have a copy of the RED Book of Westmark. That is what the LOTR's was known by in the beginning. It is a beautifully done book in real red leather. A treasure I hold to this very day.

Matt Mabry

Great Reaction Carly. It was fun watching you experience this movie. And it was even fun watching you react to it again Cassie. I had fun watching the full extended movie again. Thank you, Ladies. I look forward to the next one.

Rick Williams

Average youtube-reactor: - ”This is a really long movie so we will be here a long time.” *3,5 hours later* - ”Ohhh no, it can’t be over already. I need to watch the next one.”

Björn Von Knorring

Not much of a poker face there, Cassie. The moment Aragorn appeared on screen you automatically bit your lip😂. Believe me; I can relate.

Mindy Moo

Loved watching this SOOOOOOOO much. Carly's reactions were fantastic as was Cassie's reactions even though she has watched this before. Was a little surprised Cassie did not have her crying towel to hand given the tears we had on her first viewing. I also loved the way our girls were thinking about the story and world Tolkien created. As a professor of Norse and Anglo -Saxon mythology a lot of the inspirations came from mythology, but the way he weaved it all into the realm of Middle Earth is the true mark of a master storyteller. So looking forward to the Two Towers... when can we expect this... I feel like a pair of 5 year olds on Christmas Eve!

James Moy

Oh, awesome that you guys decided on the Extended Edition. It really is a fuller experience than the theatrical cut. (And this coming from someone who often dislikes director's cuts.) Can't wait to watch this tonight.

WastedPo

Now Cassie knows how we feel when watching her react to something we truly love! I'm also continuously impressed on how quickly Carly picks up subtle and complex details. She was so quick in the Mission Impossible movies, and here as well. I love the fact that she was explaining to Cassie that Aragorn was the heir, so Boromir's father isn't a king but still in charge in some other way. It's going to be hard to wait for the Two Towers... I am ready to watch it now!!!!

Robert Haynes

"Everyone needs a Sam." - Cassie, 2021

Mike Lemon

Completely off topic, but the trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie just dropped and I think it looks great. It even has Sallah (John Rhys Davies, a.k.a. Gimli) in it.

Stick Figure Studios

"original STAR WARS trilogy," Despecialized edition! And it would be a little new for Cassie.

Mike Lemon

Carly gradually goes from humoring her sister to full investment! Beautiful!

Keith Stevenson

I absolutely love getting to watch these movies with you all! I'm so glad Carly enjoyed it and I cannot wait for the reactions for the next two. I know Carly will love them. Thank you all for sharing these experiences with us, it makes us all so happy.

Zac

Cassie there is something incredibly Endearing about how you are connecting to the story so much deeper this Time. as you are already invested in the characters. It is a much more emotional and visceral connection and it is a Joy to watch. Especially in contrast to the curiosity and Wonder of Carly as she puts it all together. her reactions were very measured. and I appreciate her letting the story tell itself. I hope Carly enjoys this entire journey. And Cassie I hope this time through you catch a lot of the detail you missed the first time through

Jeremy Gudenkauf

Its been over 30 years since I read the Silmarillion,... so I stand corrected

ENC SW DV Rush

That's a long movie lol

Matthew Dunham

I'd also like to say welcome to Carly, it is great to have her here. I was very impressed by Carly's comment how she appreciated the imagery in the movie during Arwen and Frodo's chase scene with the Nazguls. I'd also like to echo comments saying how entertaining it was to see Cassie do some second reactions during this re-watch. Just as good as the first time! This was an outstanding idea to introduce Carly to this series and have us along for the ride! Groaned a little in the comments about Tolkien's influence on modern fantasy. Yes, he was a big influence in the beginning, but Robert Jordan, George R. R. Martin, Patrick Rothfuss and Brandon Sanderson are more of an influence for the present. I would be very, very, very interested in Carly's fantasy reading list! Robin Hobb would be my favorite fantasy author right now.

Mike LL

And they would have been right if they had just said Magneto instead of Dumbledore.

Mike LL

I had to chuckle when Aragorn first appeared on screen (while at the Inn of the Prancing Pony), I noticed Carly bite her lip. That crush will always be there! lol

Damon

Cassie, your reaction the 2nd time around couldn't have been any better. It was everything I hoped it would be! =) Now I'm super pumped for the reactions on the next two. Also, you talked about the year-long wait in between movies back when they first came out. It was quite the build up in excitement waiting for the next movie. When Return of the King was due to be released, there were 50 theaters in the country that had a special release party for die-hard fans. Beginning in the early afternoon, they screened the extended edition of Fellowship, followed by an intermission and then the extended edition of Two Towers, followed by another intermission and finally the midnight release of Return of the King! Best day ever! Tickets sold out SO fast, but I was lucky enough to snag a couple. Everyone got limited edition LOTR swag and a cool lanyard to wear around your neck. Still have all my stuff and brings back great memories of being at that theater for like 13 hours with some of the biggest fans! Would do it again in a heartbeat if a theater ever decided to do that. Being will all those fans for the 3 movies was unlike anything I'll probably ever experience in a theater again. =)

Dave Hill

I think the third film winning Best Picture was, in a sense, winning for all three of them.

Stick Figure Studios

Same here. "I would have followed you my brother, my captain, my king."

Stick Figure Studios

Two observations. Firstly, though I thought the only (or at least the main) appeal of this video was going to be watching Carly react to the movie for the first time, I was surprised to find watching Cassie's facial expressions as she anticipated things that she knew was coming to be just as fascinating, albeit in a different way, from watching her react to something new. Because of this, and I never thought I'd say this, I am now in favor of rewatch reactions with Carly as long as it is something that Carly has not seen before. Things like the original STAR WARS trilogy, the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy or maybe even movies that Cassie hasn't done a reaction to but has seen (like GOOD WILL HUNTING or something) would work. Perhaps this is how we finally get a WHAT'S UP, DOC? video on this channel. As for Carly, I am so pleased that she finally got to watch it, I'm even more pleased that it was the extended editions (something I fought pretty hard for) instead of the theatrical cuts, I'm really pleased that she liked it, but I am most pleased that throughout the viewing she did not bombard Cassie with questions about shocking narrative developments this putting her sister in an awkward position about revealing future surprises. I have never been more proud of Carly than when she said "Don't tell me." An excellent reaction as I knew it would be. Looking forward to THE TWO TOWERS with both of you. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

Peter Jackson changed things FROM Tolkien's works. RoP makes up an entire story and makes up characters, then slaps names on them from Tolkien's work. There's a big difference between the two.

Richard Maurer

All three should have won best picture, imo.

Richard Maurer

Return of the King is epic as well, no doubt. I used to think Two Towers was the best when i was younger, loved the battle scenes. And i still think Two Towers has the best scene/shots of the whole trilogy. When Gandalf is riding down the mountain with the Rohirrim. Spine tingling

Alex

“Welcome to the thunderdome” Lol Not sure the ladies will get the reference though. 😀

Robert da Spruce

Cassie AND Carly watching the EXTENDED LOTR !! Dang...I so want to hold off watching this reaction until Christmas weekend when I have nothing to do but it's going to be hard. Heck I already watched the intro and had the willpower to turn it off before movie started...arrghhh.

Anthony Perez

If you like watching epics, I still recommend "Gone with the Wind" (btw, you've seen "Cleopatra", right?)

Jim Williams

Are you under the impression Peter Jackson's films are accurate to the books? That didn't stop people from enjoying them.

aarswft

YES!! *Rubs hands together greedily* I'm recovering from the flu and strep and this looks like the perfect remedy to get me feeling better! :) Hail and well met, Carly! You have a ton of fans here and we're all glad to see you join us in the zoo here. lol Might there even be a small chance that one day you'll start your own reaction channel?

Damon

I still think it would be fun to watch you do a watch of some of the vast amount of behind the scenes, making of material that got released with the extended editions. To me it’s just as amazing and awe inspiring as the movies.

Mr Trick

***GEEK ALERT*** Continue at your own peril Sorry to be so technical, but the dragons are definitely not Maiar, because they were not created in ancient primeval (mythological) history by Eru himself. They are instead creations of Morgoth, basically created as magnificent machines of ancient war.

Sean Novack

Good one. An argument could be made that the "Oldest Fantasy Story" would be The Epic of Gilgamesh, written as an epic poem dating back to 2100 BC. "Beowolf" is a better example of what more modern fantasy looks like.

Sean Novack

She was one of the Seven Sisters (Alustriel, Dove, Storm, etc.), Chosen of Mystra, one of the most powerful sorcerers in the Forgotten Realms (second only to Elminster, and that's debatable), and all around bad-ass.

Mike Lemon

Correct. "Fellowship" was published in 1954, about 11 years before "Dune", and 17 years after "The Hobbit".

Sean Novack

Might want to reveal this one during RotK, when it makes a little more sense?

Sean Novack

I wouldn't wish rings of power on her. Silly fan-fiction that has nothing to do with what Professor Tolkien wrote, other than the names the writers stole. Literally. They don't have the rights to do the ACTUAL story, so they had to make something up using the Appendixes in The Lord of the Rings.

Sean Novack

HO-LY MACKREL!!!! I think I enjoyed this more than your solo first time reaction Cassie, I laughed so hard at the jump scare moments and the looks on both your faces when you were in shock and awe, this was just so great! though you two haven't watched The Two Towers and The Return of the King "yet" I can already tell you that these are going to be my favorite reactions thus far on your channel, hands down lol! Carly, you showed a lot of courage when it came to the Orcs, the Uruk-Hai, the Nazgul, the Watcher in the Water, the Cave Troll, and the Balrog; very brave of you handling those scary creatures, I salute you lol! I've loved the books since I was 10 and I've loved the movies ever since they came out in 2001 (you were correct Cassie) to see wonderful people like you two to watch, appreciate and eventually love these movies just brings warm feelings to my heart! on a side note, I can't stop watching the part in your recent live stream when Carly read my comment out loud to you Cassie, especially when she said my tagline "stay classy Cassie" and you got a good laugh out of it and Carly said that she liked that! that just always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside and makes me smile every time, sorry if I sound all mushy lol! thanks so much for finally showing Carly The Fellowship of the Ring, I'm so looking forward for The Two Towers and especially The Return of the King! much love and support to you all, once again....... stay classy Cassie lol!🥰😁😉👍

Wesley White

Just a little correction, Middle-Earth is just a continent like Europe, the planet is named Arda.

Radwar

RotK is the best one for me.

Radwar

It's great to see Carly reacting to this for the first time but honestly I am just as eager to watch Cassie's reactions as she puts the pieces together of things she didn't understand the first time through. It's great having both reactions right next to each other. The final conversation about how your reaction towards Frodo and Boromir is different when you know how their journeys look later.

KTVindicare

Peter Jackson makes cameos in all his movies (eating a carrot in Bree in this one), and his kids who were very young back then, do too. His wife Fran Walsh makes an audio appearance—she provided the screeching sound of the Nazgûl.

Alex Villarreal

As someone who really pushed for the extended editions, even after Carly said she didn't like long movies, I'm so glad Carly enjoyed this.

Richard Maurer

"Lord of the Rings" as a work from Tolkien is almost 100 years old, though largely compiled and published in 1937 and 1949!

Riley

Carly, I was afraid for you with the Orcs, but it was no issue at all. :) Cassie, your whole experience in this one is what it feels like to us every week! This was uniquely enjoyable. Can you two imagine what the Q&A is like for friends and family that borrowed the book over the past century? (Alright, off to bed - can’t wait for The Two Towers)

Ike

Watching these is an annual tradition and brings back warm memories of seeing them for the first time. Even watching the 2020 cast reunion where they all met by Zoom is a tradition, too.

Alex Villarreal

This reaction makes me so upset. Cuz I cant watch 2 and 3 right now! Wow Carly catches on so fast. And seeing Cassie remembering is so heartfelt. awe geez

TinCan Cosmanaut

First off I’m sooo excited for these reactions. This is without question my favorite movie trilogy and Iv rewatched Cassie’s reactions multiple times so it will be nice to have these as well. Now to the reaction itself, one of the best yet. Seeing Cassie brace herself for scenes she’s knows are coming is a great contrast to Carly’s shock. The bridge fight…you can just see Cassie bracing herself while Carly is so excited for Gandalf’s “You shall not pass!” moment…such a great reaction. I also loved how you both had the same thought that Boromir was going to say “run” to the hobbits and then…boom just keeps fighting! Overall this was awesome and I can’t wait for the others to come. Maybe I’ll have to find Carly something to match the Sean Austin autograph I sent you Cassie 😁

Michael Barootian

I first read and fell in love with The Lord of the Rings a little over forty years ago when my 7th grade English teacher saw me reading The Hobbit and told me that Tolkien had written a sequel. I’ve read it several times since. Then, a little over twenty years ago I went to the theater and saw Peter Jackson’s first movie in the trilogy and was amazed at how well he captured the spirit of the book. Now, I’ve gotten to watch it yet again along with my two favorite reactors. Absolutely delightful reaction, ladies, and here’s hoping Carly loves the next two movies even more!

Just Plain Bob

I think with this Cassie can see why people love reaction videos. In the same way that Cassie was excited to show Carly this, we like seeing new people fall in love with the movies we grew up loving.

Jyn Jilly

Modern fantasy has been shaped almost entirely by tolkiens lord of the rings. Dune is to sci fi what lotr is to fantasy. I’m almost thinking of mailing you the histories of middle earth books that encompass tolkiens legendarium of middle earth, they were edited by tolkiens son, collections of stories that give the history of middle earth and it’s important events.

Night King01

Christmas comes early for the Patreon folks! Watching this is becoming a Holiday tradition for me, and this year I get Cassie AND Carly reacting. This sauce is AWESOME!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

OK so you know how an addict will often have a moment of self realization at a time they hit “rock-bottom “? Something so pathetic happens that it slaps them in the face and they realize something about their behavior? well I just realized I’m starting 12 hours of lord of the rings again, only this time I’ll be watching Cassie react to Carly reacting to the movie! oh well, I gotta get more snacks I guess!

JC762

I swear I will be the one who drops that Viggo Mortensen broke his toe when he kicked the helmet when they upload Two Towers :-D

Andi K

Yeah me too. I watch every one. Unless it’s a song I don’t like.

Michael Lynch

First - at the beginning when the movie was starting - I was thinking of the scenes where the hobbits were eating and cooking (several times in the movie) - Seeing you two poring over the bags of food made me smile,... About the movie: 1) Yes, Tolkien was a professor of English at Oxford and his passion was Nordic myths,... so his written and spoken languages were based off those, but he invented at least 3 languages the Dwarvish, and 2 Elvish languages, although there was actually a third Elvish language (Sindarin, Quenya, and Noldor). 2) On his and his wife's tombstone are the names of the two lovers from the song that Aragorn was singing,... the Elvish woman who gave up her immortality for her love of a human. 3) Gandalf is one of only 5 Istari (the wizards), but they are form of Maiar (servants of the Valar). Dragons and Balrogs are also a form of Maiar but are evil. for the Istari - I believe only 1 is not mentioned by name, and one other mentioned by name is only mentioned in one place. Rhadagast the Brown is mentioned and is in the movies made by P Jackson of the Hobbit. 4) Merry and Pippin were young but hobbits don't consider adulthood to start until 33. They are both cousins of Frodo. The Fellowship of the Ring covers roughly 20 years for the main part of the story,... Bilbo has his party when he is 111,... Frodo doesn't leave for Rivendell until Bilbo is 129 or 130 - In the final book on the day he goes to the harbors, it is his 131st BD. 5) The Hobbit was written for his son, and I believe it came out in the 1930's - The LOTR was started in the 1930's and finished in the 1940's or early 50's. Dune was written in the 1960's,... LOTR is the gold standard for modern fantasy,... Another great reaction from both of you,...

ENC SW DV Rush

Gimli said to Haldir in Dwarven, "I spit upon your grave." They didn't put subtitles for that line, but Tolkien fully made the language.

Michael Hawk

agreed. ROTK may have won best picture but FOTR is easily the best of the three.

Matt Rose

Too funny, I just did a rewatch of all three of these over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. These are so good and it's nice to see that Carly is on board for the (extended) journey.

Matt Rose

That would be just too cool Mike. I don't know who the Simbul is but I grew up reading Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms.

My_Cousin_Mose

Thank you so much for doing this one! I’ve been waiting what feels like forever for you to watch these with Carly, so happy you finally did it! I think with this reaction you finally got a taste of what all of us enjoy when you watch some of our favorite movies with us. We get to see and in a way experience the journey through your eyes fit the first time and you got to experience that with her with one of if not the greatest movie ever made. “Fellowship” isn’t just an outstanding movie in film history, it’s special within the trilogy. Thanks again for this treat! Oh, and if Carly needs some fella to do a rewatch of them with…she has my bow…😃

Carly, find an English translation of the poem Beowulf; I think (but not sure) it's the first story of this kind that was written and passed down through generations. It's a great story that even Tolkien was inspired by. So much so that he borrowed heavily from it for The Hobbit.

Code Monkey

They did build those monuments for the movie though. It's all in the behind the scenes. The lengths they went for the movie is amazing. When Cassie said, " Oh Frodo" at the beginning of the movie because I thought "I bet she's looking at happy Frodo and thinking about what he is about to endure." It made me think about it and I think most of us forget or disregard the torture that Frodo endures by the end of the movies. I think Cassie and Carly would enjoy the 2019 Tolkien movie to understand how he became the person that could create such a world.

Andrew Ramos

Welcome Carly!! I love seeing the difference in your faces. Carly, paying close attention and Cassie with a huge smile when she first sees Frodo and Gandalf and then again with Sam, Merry and Pippin, Aragorn etc. Cassie, now you understand how we feel watching you react to movies we love… next up… The Two Towers

Tara

Loved it, again! Tolkien is considered to be the father of the modern fantasy genre as we think of it today. These books were written after he served in World War 1 to give you some time context on that.

Jonathan Hall

I get that and i agree. I literally meant what i typed. I wasn't sure if thats what they think.

Variable38

I think it's easy for more casual viewers to mix up the elderly actors. If you're not obsessed like a lot of us are, it may be easy to mix up Michael Gambon with Ian McKellen.

Chris W

I first read the books out loud with my brother and my parents when I was only about nine years old. A couple of years later, The Fellowship of the Ring was released in theaters, and I went to see it, and was blown away by the epic scale. So glad that you're re-watching these with Carly! While nothing will ever truly capture the magic of the books, Peter Jackson's adaptation is one that does respect the source material and tries to do some justice to Tolkien's vision and legacy.

That clip is SO unfunny that it brought THIS video to mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKjxFJfcrcA

James Moy

Not few. The only.

aarswft

I'm only watching this for Carly lulz, cause I guess I'm one of the few people who thinks LOTR are the most boring movies of all time. Well, other than these guys... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPl5MeXIM8E&t=1m5s

Sage Antone

I like how Cassie its still in suspense even though she knows people don't die lol

Daniel Fowler

Also, fun fact: Arwen and Aragorn are first cousins.

aarswft

I know what I'm doing tomorrow

Drew

Carly reads fantasy? If she knows who has hourglass eyes or who the Simbul is or the ranger with violet eyes, I am going to faint from excitement.

Mike Lemon

OMG, 3 a.m. here in Germany and im done with my work but i cant go to bed now. Must watch! Thx you both for your cute and gorgeous reactions.

Curaitis

I love, love, love their music reactions.

Yeah. That’s why I subscribe to them, so I can get the whole reaction of their movie reactions. They are so likable.

In case you didn't realize Led Zeppelin has referenced The Lord of the Rings many times Directly and indirectly in songs. Some of the main songs are: The Battle of Evermore (The Untitled Album): This talks about the distant land, the constant battle between the ringwraiths, sauron, and good. word "ringwraiths" is specifically mentioned. Ramblin' On (Led Zeppelin II): This song talks about Frodo's journey from Rivendell to Mount Doom, being led by Gollum. Words "Gollum" and "Mordor" are specifically mentioned. Misty Mountain Hop (The Untitled Album): Direct Reference in song title The Misty Mountains of Middle-Earth Over the Hills and Far Away (Houses of the Holy): Indirect Reference Hobbiton Carouselambra (In Through the Out Door): It is not as direct in this one, but "the eye from the deep searching for the weak" is most likely the eye of sauron, and it talks about an old age war. It also talks about the "key which could not be dropped", I take that to mean the ring of course (Isildur). P.S. back in the 1970s Robert Plant even named his dog Strider

Watching Cassie watch Carly!! What a blast! Cassie has that recognizable look on her face of returning to a much loved story. I'm sure I have that look too ...

Keith Stevenson

Did i hear that correctly? do they think Ian Mckellen took over as Dumbledore after Richard Harris?

Variable38

Welcome to Patreon Carly! I’ll be interested to see your reaction to this one!!

Steven Ashford

Yes, welcome to Patreon Carly. That’s for sure. People get defensive to say the least

James1035

I don't subscribe to RobSquad but I watch their YouTube videos on occasion and they seem like the coolest couple ever. Like people you'd want to road trip with.

Lyle Morgan

One of the best scenes of the series! Probably my favourite!

Cole Jennett

Happy to have you Carly! If you’re reading comments now, I’m sure glad it seems like you enjoyed it, ha ha. Patreon isn’t YouTube, but some people can be pretty harsh if you don’t love the movie as much as they do.

Cole Jennett

i must have seen these movies a dozen times, and i will find any excuse to watch them again.

zynjams

I laughed too hard at " Did you... get it?" Cassie, after finishing this do you think you'll be in the mood for Rings of Power? And watching the making of the movies takes away none of the magic. If anything you'll be even more amazed. So much of these movies were practical.

aarswft

Hi Carly! Hi Cassie! Have SO been looking forward to this!!! I lose count of how many times I watch these movies every year! Watching it with someone that hasn't seen it before just helps me recapture some of that "first time" magic, but I'm excited to see your reaction the 2nd time around, Cassie. <3

Dave Hill

Scheduling this for Monday morning

Jason Dolan

Just watched Rob squad reactions do this one last night. Guess I’ll watch it again with you girls. Got to see Carly’s “ I can’t watch this” every time they show an orc.

Michael Lynch

Best one out of all 3 i think, it's got everything!

Alex

The LOTR films are my favorite pieces of film ever! I am always down to watch them over and over.

David Martin

After rewatching these every now and then, Fellowship has become my favorite. Its got great character intros, deft worldbuilding and just a solid sense of old fashion adventure that we rarely get these days. Should be fun to watch with these two. I imagine Cassie is excited to be the LOTR encyclopedia for Carly

Sahitya

And now for the mandatory: the knife in the final battle was accidentally thrown at Vigo (Aragorn) for real and he knocked it aside on camera.

Michael Hawk

The feelings of nostalgia is what I get when you (and sometimes with Carly) watch and react to movies from the 70s, 80s, and 90s (plus some classics prior to that) I remember and that brings back memories. I saw most of them on VHS by rental, and on a 19" Sony TV. In college, or fratnerity got a 60" inner projection TV that worked really well and we bought out a stock of over 300 movies on those giant laser discs from a rental place that wanted to liquidate. Easy Rider was probably the most watched in that group of movies. I remember the reaction where Cassie showed off her set up in her bedroom, amazing. I didn't know such a thing existed. Anyway, that's the big draw for me.

Richard Bourne

No matter how many times I have watched this... the Boromir death scene always gets to me. 😪😢 Welcome Carly! 🤗

Robin Craft

Now Cassie knows how we feel, watching her watch something we love. Kinda feels like watching something for the first time again. Man I love this channel so much. Cant wait to watch this when I get home from work. Thanks for all this Cassie and welcome to Patreon Carly.

T.K.

Simply the greatest movie epic in history being watched by the greatest movie reaction duo in history! 🤷‍♂️

Krusty “Topher”

Yay watching now. Can't wait to see how Carly reacts. P. S. Warm welcome to you Carly. Hopefully you enjoy our community as much as we do. 🤗🤗🤗
