Ghost (1990) - Full Reaction

Comments

The videos don't seem to be playing for me is there a reason.

Fred bates

Any thoughts on willie and Carl's fates?

Movies Rule

Any thoughts on willie and carls fates? These scenes always stayed with me. I've definitely would love hearing thoughts and the. sounds too.

Movies Rule

If you want to see Whoopi at her best, check out “The Color Purple.” It’s a Steven Spielberg movie and it’s absolutely stunning!

Juley

An excellent but romantic ghost movie is "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", It has a charm you don't see in movies much anymore. The female lead was a strong, intelligent, and independent woman when women weren't supposed to be, and the lead is a Sea Captain and 100% old-school masculine yet rendering. You'll love the ending. It's a romantic classic. Love your sister and your reactions. Keep up the great work (it's hard, I know, but we appreciate your kindness)

Clifton Owens

I'd definitely recommend "Roadhouse" for a fun flick and "Red Dawn" (The first film to ever get the PG-13 rating) for a sense of what a lot of younger people were feeling in the mid-80's (I graduated from High School in 1989, 5 months before the Berlin Wall fell)

Sean Novack

The problem with Point Break is that the ending makes no sense whatsoever to anyone who has ever been in law enforcement. It just wouldn't happen.

Sean Novack

Tootsie and Moonstruck are also my top 2 picks of my favorite “New York City” movies ever.

N M

Not technically an 80’s movie Cassie. Came out in 1990. And again every time I hear you refer to an80’s movie as old it’s like a knife in my heart 😢 these old dumb 80’s movies are what defined my childhood and helped make it so awesome. I guess it’s a little shocking cause I’m only a few years older than you lol but man do you know how to make me feel old Cassie 🤣🤣🤣

brooke atkins

I had a crush on her when she came out in St. Elmo's Fire in '85 and I was a junior in high school. She's such a great actor and in Ghost, particularly, her beauty was, as you said, stunning. I remember not long after this movie, the short hair pixie cut came back into fashion and I wanna attribute it to her lol. You referenced the Rat Pack but Moore and her compatriots were known as the Brat Pack. The Rat Pack were Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra and a couple others. The nicknames are confusing though. I think it's safe to say that, during the scene when Carl was trying to take advantage of Molly's grief, EVERYONE wanted to kill Carl themselves lol

Damon

When Carly did the motion of laying down when she was saying Sam should go back into his body, I was chuckling uncontrollably! You are right, the two of them caught onto Carl way before I did when I first saw it (and many others I'd wager). It's always great when these two team up, for sure.

Damon

I brought this, (someone brought it for me) when I was 11. Alongside, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and TMNT. I think that set of three VHS tapes has influenced my taste in films for many years to follow. Maybe a unusual mix for an 11 year old, but they were all my own choices. You're right, this one ticks a lot of boxes. It's a mystery, thriller, comedy, romance, fantasy, tragedy. It's about love, friendship, betrayal, justice, faith, hope and charity. I watched this an unknowable amount of times as a kid. I'm surprised I cried more than you guys. But loved that you could see happiness in the ending. I understood once you said that.

Daryl

I got myself all cozied up in bed last night to watch this as it had been years since my last watch. This has been one of my favourite movies since I was a little girl (yes, family let me watch this from the age of 8 or so onwards LOL). I was very pleasantly surprised at how fast you both picked up on Carl being a snake, but it made watching those earlier scenes really fun for me. I giggled when Carly said that Sam should just "go back into his body" when you were still holding out hope that Sam wasn't actually dead. Thank you for such a fun reaction and I'm excited for the YouTube edit!

kaiielle

I think the lack of tears for this movie from the reactors is because, in hindsight, watching this again after so many years, there are some elements of the film which seem unbelievable or downright cheesy.

N M

I like the new format with the frosted frame in the middle and the clear bars on the top and bottom... makes it much easier to follow along when watching an edited version. Brilliant.

N M

Hey Cassie, I was surprised that you and Carly hadn’t seen this movie. But, wow you picked up on Carl right away. Not me, I figured it out at the same time Sam did. If I remember correctly, I saw this in the theater and by the end, all the women in the theater were crying. If you want more Swayze, I’d recommend Point Break with Keanu Reeves. There’s a two for one! Also, The Outsiders (Director’s cut) is a great coming of age story with a bunch of young rising stars before they become famous like Tom Cruise, Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid) Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe and Matt Dillon. Roadhouse has a love story in between some action and the stranger (Sam Elliott) from the Big Lebowski is in it. He has such a distinctive voice. Red Dawn is another. He costarred with Jennifer Grey and apparently they didn’t get along, so she was concerned about doing Dirty Dancing with him, but we all know how that turned out. Demi Moore was married to Bruce Willis, their daughter Rumer Willis is an actress. Demi was in an 80’s movie called St. Elmo’s Fire that starred members of “The brat pack” which was a term used to describe a group of actors that were in a lot of the same movies. The Breakfast Club comes to mind. Three actors from that movie were also in St Elmo’s Fire. She was also in GI Jane and Indecent Proposal.

Tara

Nah.. I'm joking 🙃😄 As always, I'm thinking about Fcuking Åmål/Show me love 😇😇 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show_Me_Love_(film)

Björn Karlsson

We would have to tie Cassie to the bedhead (🤮 sounds familiar for some reason) and force her to sit through it.

John Cranberry

Yeah!! 🤪🤪😂😂🤣🤣 That's the one I'm thinking about 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Björn Karlsson

The Outsiders and Red Dawn would be an awesome night with Cassie. Some of these members aren't even aware of these classics. Maybe one day.

John Cranberry

The Exorcist? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

John Cranberry

I know a movie that will make Cassie cry all kinds of tears 🤭🤭

Björn Karlsson

lol I'm right with you. Last night I added it to the stack of movies beside my tv.

Erik Daniel

As a kid in the 90s I remember Ghost and Dirty Dancing was in every single VHS collection of my friends’ families.

Wes Stewart

I think I kept holding out hope that he would be able to come back somehow, and then in the end, it was beautiful and closure giving and peaceful, I teared up but happy tears

Cassie

great minds <3 thats funny, after watching this Carly and I both texted each other we were craving watching Just Like Heaven now.

Cassie

The title always deterred me as I thought it would be scary ish? Plus I was like "its an old 80's movie, ew" so dumb and ignorant back then ;)

Cassie

I actually thought he was younger, I will most def watch that special, thank you!

Cassie

Really?! That is so surprising!!

Cassie

agreed, heartbraking and heartwarming

Cassie

I definitely would go with Point Break over Roadhouse. Also, Next of Kin, Three Wishes, The Outsiders, and Red Dawn (1984).

JayF

This has to be pointed out!!! I have seen Ghost many times before and I found myself tearing up big time once again and had a huge lump in my throat. WHY!!!! on earth did neither Cassie or Carly cry, not even once. Are they holograms? Please explain this to me? Cassie cries all the time!!!

John Cranberry

Yes, so sad Patrick Swayze is gone. I imagine you’ll probably look it up, but I believe he passed in around 2009 from pancreatic cancer. Roadhouse is another classic of his you should check out though, also Point Break with Keanu Reeves!

Gilbert Gonzalez

This was so fun lol. "Carl with your cute face, I hate you!" Haha, the sisters were on to him quick! I thoroughly enjoyed watching you both hate on his every move. Oh and Carly, "Sister's edition!" - oh we liked it lol. The heckler Muppets from The Muppets Christmas Carol?? lol wow Cassie, with all respect to Vincent Schiavelli... yes. Holy yes, I see it. I have to thank you for the Just Like Heaven shout out. It made my night, that was one of my Pops favorites. As soon as you both shared your hopes that it was just a coma, and he could come back to life, I blurted out "hey just Like Heaven", followed immediately by both of you. Good times lol.

Erik Daniel

My first exposure to Demi Moore was from Charlie's Angels full throttle LOL. Back when I was way too young to know anything, Demi Moore was featured in that movie like it was a bombshells come back. I never heard of or saw her before that, so the sentiment that movie was going for was lost on me. I just remembered thinking yeah she looks good for her age, what's the big deal. Years later I watched a few Good Men and recognized her, but still thought of her as that lady from the Charlie's Angels sequel. Then over the years I didn't end up watching many of her movies but I did get to know about her history in the industry and the rat pack and all that stuff. Took around 15 years but after watching Ghost for the first time tonight I finally get it. I get why she blew up and why this movie made so much money. She looks absolutely radiant and stunning in this and I was just transfixed. Just something about her I couldn't put my finger on that was just making me mutter to myself every time there was a close up on her, "damn she's gorgeous". Her chemistry with swayze was, i have to say, off the charts and probably what made some of the cheesy parts enjoyable enough. That's also probably why I had such a visceral reaction to Carl hitting on her in the shirt off scene. Every little move that douche made had me literally yelling at the screen, you lecherous opportunist get lost.

Sahitya

This will be a first for me too! Never got around to watching this one. I've seen scenes and parodies only.

Scott Macaulay

I just got back from hockey and now I get to watch Ghost with you 2 lovely people? That's a good night right there! Now Carly, an example of how behind the scenes info can make movies seem less scary. You know, for when Cassie drags you into 'scary, but not too scary' October again next year lol. The noises that are made by the 'shadow monsters' use to freak me out when I was younger. Until I learned that they are actually just the sounds of babies crying, played at very low speeds and in reverse. It helped me sleep a little easier lol. So next time you are 'forced' to watch a horror movie, just watch some behind the scenes clips after to "see behind the curtain", and it might help calm your mind down. Alright, break out the pottery wheel, time for Ghost! Thank you so much ladies.

Erik Daniel

Curveballs indeed I've never even heard of those. I've heard of MASH obviously but didn't know Swayze was in an episode.

My_Cousin_Mose

LOL that guy does look like one of the grumpy muppets. And I love how you can see a bunch of outlines of beings at the end as Sam is walking into the light. No doubt those are Sam's loved ones who went before him. And that line about taking the love with you is so powerful. In fact, Patrick Swayze recalled that line in an interview he did shortly before his death. It's in a video called "Patrick Swayze The Truth" on YouTube. Patrick was a big part of my childhood, and I was devastated when he died. Same with Robin Williams, and now Robbie Coltrane. So many great talents have left us.

Nathan Bishop

Excellent movie

Carlos Stevens

I always thought of it like this. Its all in his mind. He saw himself dead and knew he was a ghost. ghost move through walls and cant move things, that "trope" been in culture for a long time. But the ground being solid and gravity, who gives those things a second thought? So he subconsciously was making the ground solid just like he learned to move solid objects. Also it's a movie. Cheers!

SplinterTME

I've rewatched it several times.

Grinznmore

May I suggest a very sweet, yet thought provoking and powerful movie...Powder. Jeff Goldblum, Mary Steenburgen, and Sean Patrick Flannery as Powder. Beautiful, emotional film.

Lori

Three Wishes, Tall Tale, and s09e18 of MASH just to throw some curveballs into the list.

Mike Lemon

If you look at her "seen movies" list, there wasn't much before 1995 until she started her channel.

Mike Lemon

Roadhouse all the way! 👍🏻🙂

'Pappy' Johnston

I ain't buyin' it either! 🤣😂🤣😂

'Pappy' Johnston

I fully support POINT BREAK in place of ROAD HOUSE.

Stick Figure Studios

It also reminded me of Spielberg's ALWAYS (which actually came out a year earlier).

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, that is not a good recommendation.

Stick Figure Studios

Oh right, it was TOP SECRET! that I was thinking of.

Jason Dolan

After this talk about Sister Act, I hope we will get to see a reaction to that one day. One of the best movies of Whoopi Goldberg and maybe her best comedic performance.

Gábor Árki

Cassie's Starman reaction is up on Patreon (exclusive).

Gábor Árki

Not just won, what is surprising to me is that she beat Stands with a Fist / Mary McDonnell that year.

Gábor Árki

Well, one of them.

Stick Figure Studios

Not one of Spielberg's best, but I like it... and you're right, she would too.

Stick Figure Studios

Oh she would love always!! Good suggestion.

brooke atkins

Good for you 👋

brooke atkins

That Barbara walters special is so great. You could see his sadness and his fear of leaving his wife behind without him. They were married for 43 years when he passed. He was given 6 months to live and lived another 2 and a half years. His physical appearance at the end of his life was shocking to see in pictures. He looked like a skeleton and a completely different person. R.I.P. Patrick swayze!!

brooke atkins

Ok. I missed those tears. My bad

nick bell

She did cry at the end. Just cause she’s not bawling uncontrollably doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel it. I watched this with them again last night for the 10,000 time lol and cried for the 10,000 time lol

brooke atkins

Fantastic movie!!

brooke atkins

Exactly

nick bell

Ahhh, yupp like you said- hits everyone different.

My_Cousin_Mose

Nothing bad. Nothing wrong just thought there'd be a few tears at the end.

nick bell

Always makes me smile when I see your username.

My_Cousin_Mose

They certainly do. What were you imagining though? Cuz this was exactly what I expected from what I remembered of the movie.

My_Cousin_Mose

My thoughts since the movie came out (still love this movie). But what did we expect? His body falling endlessly through the earth for infinity? haha.

Philip Alan

What do you mean?

Armchair Rizzard

How about splitting the proceeds between Ukraine relief and Wounded Warriors..

Celeste McAllister

This film is a stone cold classic

MetallicOpeth

Yeah, that movie too 😊, but I'm more keen on Show me love. The most heartwarming/heartbreaking coming-of-age movie imo 😇😇

Björn Karlsson

it's time to let the right movie in?

Matt Rose

I always thought he was the inspiration for the 'train guy' in the MATRIX movies

nick bell

Not the reaction I imagined but these hit everyone different I guess

nick bell

I know, right? I guess the title scared them off.

Brian McGovern

I cannot believe she had never seen Ghost. 🙄

John Cranberry

Movie trivia: the angry ghost on the train, who you thought looked like a Muppet, is the wonderful character actor Vincent Schiavelli (RIP). He was particularly liked by the director Milos Foreman, so Foreman used him in a lot of his movies: ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, MAN ON THE MOON and even AMADEUS (where he played the guy in the opening scene who tried to use sweets to persuade the elderly Salieri to open his door).

Stick Figure Studios

If you want to fall even more in love with Patrick Swayze, you should watch To Wong Foo where he plays a drag queen. Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo also give amazing performances!

Je suis Napoleon

Well, one of them.

Stick Figure Studios

And I see we're throwing out Swayze films to recommend. Well my favorite may be Red Dawn but I would first recommend The Outsiders. I think its more up your alley and overall just a great movie.

My_Cousin_Mose

13 yr old me used to really like Ghost but I havent seen it since. Its a romance movie! Barf! Well it held up. I probably won't watch it again anytime soon but it's a pretty good movie. And Whoopi was pretty funny. It definitely helped to have you and Carly get me through the first act though. It was a no brainer you guys would like this one. Thanks for getting me to watch it again.

My_Cousin_Mose

BOTH OF YOU lol watch ladyhawk and first knight

Ry Jo

Such a wonderful movie. Gets me every time. Recommendation: Ladyhawke (1985).

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

There are some more goodies in the Patrick Swayze rabbit hole. Point Break sits at the top.

David Collins

He can move through doors but floors are magic.. lol. Still very much liked the movie

TinCan Cosmanaut

I came here to make this comment lol! U win (magic shoes lol) loved the movie

TinCan Cosmanaut

I’ve always thought that Starman and Phenomenom were greatly underrated. I’m sure both Cassie and Carly would love them.

Daniel Goldberg

Ah…the old “Oops! I spilled my drink, guess I better take off my shirt” routine. 😂 You guys were onto Carl almost immediately. Excellent “Creep detector”! Great reaction ladies! I enjoyed that. I know several people are suggesting you watch Roadhouse as another Patrick Swayze movie. But I would humbly like to suggest Point Break starring Patrick and Keanu Reeves instead. I think you might enjoy that one more. Just my opinion.

Robert da Spruce

jumping jack flash

Ry Jo

So that she knows how to rip someone's throat out the next time she's in a bar fight.

Carol_White

Ah, sweet of you to say...

Mannygogou

Ladies, this is one of the greatest happily-FOREVER & EVER love stories. So of course, it's an instant PiB classic and pure joy when it's a Cassie and Carly react to such a sweet and tender love story.

Terry Yelmene

OMG!!! I have been waiting and hoping for this so hard. I actually squealed when I saw it, and hubby looked at me like I'd lost my mind. LOL *Tackle hug* Diving in....

Raven Dark

Patrick was visible after his diagnosis, he really enjoyed his life and his fear of leaving was wrenching. That coupled with the erosion of his beautiful physique, made his exit particularly ugly. His loss touched the nation.

Grinznmore

…and most importantly, Whoopi Goldberg!

Aaron Ritchie

I know, right? One doesn't follow the other.

Mike LL

intention

Mike LL

Those are two great recomendations.

Mike LL

Patrick Swayze died at 57 which is pretty young still, but not tragically young like Heath Ledger or River Phoenix. Pancreatic Cancer. Very sad. He lived an amazing life though. His Barbara Walters Special is really great.

Jason Dolan

This has the vibe of Starman, a tender, heartwarming story. If you like this theme, you might consider Phenomenon with John Travolta. For some reason, I'm craving a piece of Dutch Apple Pie. Two sides to the coin. Horror paints death as terror. These films show death and loss as a transition to a better existence. The Green Mile had a very interesting take. It explored existence and the biggest fear, pain. Thank you for a fun evening.

Grinznmore

because movie.

Matt Rose

not to mention POINT BREAK!

Jason Dolan

Also... from the director of AIRPLANE! and THE NAKED GUN!

Jason Dolan

RED DAWN would be very relevant for the War in Ukraine and maybe Cassie could donate all the proceeds to a Ukraine Relief Fund

Jason Dolan

why do you guys want her to watch roadhouse? Cassie is not a dude

zynjams

Not only does Whoopi act... she won the OSCAR for this!

Jason Dolan

If he could walk thru walls why didn't he fall thru floors?

nick bell

I knew you'd love this one. You need to see ROAD HOUSE now.

Matt Rose

How have you not seen this film? It was right in your pre PIB wheel house!!!

Biggman83

Trivia. Stephen Root, who plays the Detective played the radio station owner (sing in a can) Oh Brother Where Art Though.

Grinznmore

Great reaction girls!

Philip Alan

You need to check out Tootsie, and Moonstruck. They are classic rom/coms from the 80s and had 15 academy award nominations between the two movies.

Bill Hayden

Makes you want to take up pottery I bet.

Seymor Butz

Roadhouse should be next!

Andrew Ramos

I think it's a horrible film on so many levels. I saw it in the theater with my gf/wife and even she thought it was bad. And she likes everything. Lol

London Davis

just SO glad to finally see the reaction to this one, knew that it was an ideal choice

JL_83

From the director of airplane and naked gun lol.

Night King01

Fun facts: Whoopi won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her role in this. And this is directed by Jerry Zucker who previously directed… AIRPLANE!!!

djKENTO

Yeah, I knew you and Carly would love this one (even in spite of it's sad ending). A similar film you should watch sometime is Steven Spielberg's ALWAYS.

Stick Figure Studios

Yes. ROADHOUSE next 😃😃😃

William Bryan

"Utah! Get me Two!" - I can't think of a more unnecessary yet memorable line from any other movie.

Jesus F Christ

“We loved it!” Ditto. 😀 So glad you guys enjoyed it! I guess I know what I’ll be watching tonight!

Robert da Spruce

Point Break, then Bad Boys II, then she can do Hot Fuzz.

Christopher Smith

WHEN WILL WE GET POINT BREAK!!??? POINT BREEEEEAAAAAAAK!!!

djKENTO

Watching Ghost now hits differently than it used to. Now that Patrick Swayze is gone, the ending is so much more touching and heartbreaking. 🥲😭

Zane From Canada

Great movie and a great cast. One movie you can watch over and over again.

Bill Maurer

Demi Moore is brilliant. Without her, it wouldn't have worked.

Rich Campbell

I know a movie. It's also a movie about love. I guess you know what I'm talking about 😉😉😁😁.......... aaaaand it's time for a foreign movie

Björn Karlsson

Oh yes! Roadhouse on your list?

Burrito Jimmy
