Tremors (1990) - Full Reaction

Hey guys! Carly is back after being benched for what we thought was the rest of October. I feel like this was the best movie to have her watch with me. I won't spoil the actual reaction but I will say that it definitely had a "Jaws" feel to it! You'll have to watch to see how we felt about it :)

Tremors (1990) - Full Reaction

Comments

It's weird: I can watch all sorts of things that would prompt "Ew-ew-ew-ew-ew!" or "Sweet Mercy!" from the Ladies of Popcorn, but I got unexpectedly queasy watching Matt Damon inject himself in The Martian, and had to close my eyes in the cinema for 30 seconds or so!😬

Chris Clarke

I can cope with a little horror when - like this - it comes with a large dose of comedy, some great performances and a very clever screenplay. The recently reacted to Hot Fuzz is another example. 👌

Chris Clarke

Do we need a free-movies bulletin? 😃 This is now free on YouTube - ooh, I am cueing it up right now... I think they cycle through the free movies quickly, disappearing quickly...

Em McG

33 years ago today, Tremors was released on the Big Screen, RIP Fred ... I'm watching both the movie and the reaction now on this anniversary

Bill Maurer

I agree, great film.

Armchair Wizard

Oh My Goodness!!! Cassie, I can’t believe you haven’t seen the original Footloose. It is a MUST!!! As soon as I saw it, I was smitten with Kevin Bacon. I saw it in the theater when I was a teenager and when it ended, I snuck in and watched the next show. Shhhh…. 🍿

Tara

I feel sorry for him with the Remo Williams thing. i actually saw that in the cinema when it came out, and it fell flat. That was his potential big shot, and it does was not done well.

Richard Bourne

Rest in peace, Fred Ward.

John Casamassa

Just so know! Don't feel bad if you don't like scary stuff! It's not for everyone! Lol I love horror movies. I can watch horror movies all day and it doesn't bother me but anything true crime is almost always a no for me. It just leaves me feeling dark and scared and I hate it. Everyone has their limits and what they like and don't. Super happy you do it for the channel though! haha (also gore doesn't bother me but surgery scenes are a no for me! I can't handle it at all!)

Noe Ramirez

I'm glad you two enjoyed this. (Judging by some of the comments, I assumed Carly didn't like it. But she did.) Ron Underwood directed this. If you've seen his movie "City Slickers" with Billy Crystal, then you can see he's good at establishing affable, breezy stories with likable characters. Tremors is kind of like City Slickers, but adapted as a throwback monster movie. Some will probably recommend the Tremors sequels to you, but fair warning: They're all varying "direct to video" quality, and there's no Kevin Bacon. Of the sequels, a lot of people seem to like the next movie, but I personally don't understand the enthusiasm for that one. I actually think that Tremors 3 is the closest to capturing the spirit of the original. (Though again, you have go in knowing it's not as polished as the original.)

WastedPo

Yes! Good recommendation.

Grad

The Edge has an absolutely amazing score by Jerry Goldsmith as well. It goes so well with the landscapes and cinematography.

WastedPo

Cassie had indeed come a long way.

Dooly

Good job Cassie & Carly. An old classic monster movie. Brought back memories. I think Carly is a lost cause. She just won't toughen up. It's okay. She is fine how she is. You have come a long way, Cassie. So, at least one of you can watch some of the harder movies. If it was just Carly. This would be a Disney channel. 😉

Rick Williams

Oh... you should watch "The Edge", with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin (yes, the guy from "Hunt for Red October").

Jim Williams

January will be to me what October is to horror haters - a long month.

Richard Maurer

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but MINDY is played by Ariana Richards..who played the litle girl in Jurassic Park

Anthony Perez

Jaws is actually how I found you! I was waiting to watch it with my friends so I was watching YouTube videos about it and you popped up. The rest is history. This was my first time seeing this as well and it was so silly but fun times. Apparently Kevin Bacon had nightmares during filming and would wake up trying to drag his wife out of the house, thinking he had to get her to safety.

China Andronicus

It's okay if you guys are scared of a movie . Remember , this is your channel , and you don't always have to watch what the fans want .

My Fat Butt

hahaha no way!!!

Cassie

hahahaha

Cassie

I love this!!!

Cassie

it did, we are watching it tonight!

Cassie

what a nice thing to read, thank you so much<3

Cassie

he was so great

Cassie

hahaha her alias in intact!

Cassie

altho the plot is a hacky jaws ripoff, the characters and sound design are so much better than its genre deserves. a perfect little miracle of a film

Wu Sha Ling

"Is it about worms?" "Ew, no." Funny that Carly mentioned worms. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was so hilarious!

Zane From Canada

It is a smart film, and if you notice, it's mostly the smart people and the smart monsters that last the longest.

Steve Colletti

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA has a very similar 'feel'.. and one of my favorites.

Steve Colletti

And an entire online database of firearms used in films/TV/video games. Internet Movie Firearms Database - https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Main_Page

Steve Colletti

With some terrific writing, not a lot of waste in any scene.

Steve Colletti

Fun quotes... "These are hollow points but they're not hydra shock hollow points"(that is a real thing, they are made by Federal) .... "I can't believe we said no to free beer" ... "I guess we can't make fun of Burt's lifestyle anymore" .... Burt's NV License Plate UZI 4U (an Uzi is an Israeli submachine gun) "Earl, here is some Swiss cheese and some bullets" ... "Pardon my French" .....

Richard Bourne

I think I have the same model they had, which is the larger size. Usually for cleaning/polishing brass for rifle or pistol rounds you use a ground corn cobb or hazelnut media. Sand is for polishing rocks which is done in a rotarty tumbler.

Richard Bourne

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - Yes Kirk Douglas in his prime and a movie ahead of its time based on a book way way ahead of its time.

Richard Bourne

Am I the only one who wanted Melvin to get eaten? The little girl on the pogo stick is the young girl in Jurassic Park.

softshoes

I love Burt also. It is extra funny to see Michael Gross who played the ulimate PBS lefty in the TV Show Family Ties play this polar opposite character. I think I've seen 5 of the 7 movies, but the original is the best. I also thought it was perfect that Carrie and Carly did Rock, Paper, Sissers at the end. That's the sort of off the cuff thing that makes them a really great team to do entertaining first impression movie reviews.

Richard Bourne

Glad that both of you enjoyed this gem. Michael Gross had just finished his years on Family Ties playing a TV Dad. This role as the survivalist helped to be accepted playing different roles. Reba was great and the two of them stole the movie in the theaters at the release. A perfect not too scary movie.

Bill Bowman

It’s one of those movies that I have no idea how many times I’ve seen it. Also had the chance to see it at the cinema about 6 or 7 years ago on one of their classic movie nights and it was awesome seeing it on the big screen and the atmosphere was brilliant. Also really happy you both liked and it’s was a brilliant reaction video, as it’s a great monster film without it being that scary for you both.

Dean Holt

The Conjuring as the last Horror film to scare the crap out of me 😂😂. It’s was mainly the thing jumping off the wardrobe and the hand clap.

Dean Holt

Also I just remembered, the 6th movie, Tremors: A Cold day in Hell has Burt heading to fight graboids in Canada’s Nunavut territory 😂😂😂

Gilbert Gonzalez

I smiled through this whole reaction lol I’m so happy to see you experience Burt Gummer, Burt is one of my favorite characters of all time and like my spirit animal haha and I loved the Rock Paper Scissors at the end 😂😂 Fun fact: Burt Gummer is the only character to be in all of the movies/ TV shows in the Tremors franchise. There are 7 movies total lol only the 4th is a prequel that takes place in the old west, and there was a short lived TV series that ran for only 1 season on the Sci-fi channel lol Earl is in the 2nd but Burt takes over as the lead for the rest of the way after that lol

Gilbert Gonzalez

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the one movie I was so hoping to see you react too! though I admit I was hoping it would be just you reacting to it, but I welcome the addition of your sister, it's been a while and I'm glad to see she's doing good after what recently happened! OH MY GOSH, sorry had to steal it lol, I cannot tell you how happy I am that you and your sister watched this movie and at least liked it! I "LOVE" this movie, I have it ranked number 7 in my top 10 favorite movies of all time, I remember seeing this movie for the first time when I was 10 years old, though it did make me scared to walk on the dirt for a while, but it grew on me and becaome one of my all time favorites! some trivia for you, the inspiration for this movie came from one of the screenwriter, S. S. Wilson, who went out on a military artillary shooting grounds when they were not in session, he then hopped on a boulder and thought to himself "what if I could not get off this rock? what if there was something that was keeping me from getting off this rock?" hence the inspiration of Tremors was born! the original title they had at first was "Land Sharks" and that just didn't sound right lol! this movie is basically an homage to the early 1950's B movie monster films, people stranded in the middle of know where, fighting a giant monster for survival and sometimes no explanation where the creatures came from! though this movie wasn't exactly a huge success like they were hoping for, but it found it's audience through movie rental home video back when that still existed lol! thusly, it garnered a huge fan base and spawned 6 sequels, expanding on the lore behind the Graboids as they call them, I would binge watch all 7 movies when I found myself in the mood lol! I do recommend you eventually check them out if you want too, but I will warn you that they do somewhat get progressively cheesy! but hey, it's fun to see these monsters in action and to see the one recurring actor that has appeared in all 7, that being Michael Gross as Burt Gummer! I actually cosplayed as him once, it was fun! so happy you and your sister watched this and liked, it really warms my heart and brings tears of joy for a movie lover like me, sorry I'm getting all mushy lol! take care, much love and support, Happy Halloween, and stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉👍🎃 PS: here's my top 10 favorite movies of all time if your curious, some you've already seen, others I highly recommend you watch: 1) The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King 2) Sleeping Beauty (Disney, 1959) 3) Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End 4) STAR WARS Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 5) JAWS 6) The Lost World Jurassic Park 7) TREMORS 8) Hook 9) Willow 10) 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Disney, 1954)

Wesley White

Great classic

Sol-Edge

I've always felt the monster "gore" looks like cheesy pizza sauce. You're right, it's gross without really being disturbing - somewhere between actual gore and Nickelodeon slime. I love the chemistry between Val and Earl and the vibe it brings. Like Jaws, but as a buddy comedy. But most of all I love what a smart movie this is. The tension isn't just built on scares, it's built on problem-solving, and it's immensely satisfying to puzzle through each challenge along with the characters. It takes a sharp script to pull that off. Tremors is a laid-back ride that just wants to indulge in some monster movie fun. But don't let its modesty fool you, it's skillfully crafted on every level. The sequels - and there are quite a few, and even a TV show - are never so sharp and clever as the original, but they are still mostly a lot of fun. Obviously you know where to find more Kevin Bacon. Fred Ward (Earl) has several more good roles as well, but if you'd like to see more of him in this sort of charming hillbilly vein I highly recommend Big Business starring Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin.

Robin T

The machine Reba used is a tumbler. You put sand or silica in it, along with brass cartridges, and it cleans the cartridges, basically.

Brent Petty

I'm actually with Carly. Although I have seen classic horror movies and scary movies, I don't like watching them. I never have. And I've never been on board with showing such movies to people just to scare them. Or showing those movies to people because it would be fun to see them squirm and react to it. Personally I don't like jump-scares, so I avoid most modern horror movies. And if there was a movie that I knew someone wouldn't enjoy, I wouldn't sit there and make them watch it because it's a character building experience or whatever.

Caomhan84

The perfect movie for your "scary but not too scary" October. Tremors is fun and doesn't take itself too seriously, but in terms of filmmaking craft it's kind of genius. It can be summed up as "Jaws" but on land + comedy.

Chris W

It's okay to admit you enjoy horror movies now. You're one of us

Patrick Flanagan

This movie was actually inspired by the children's game: the floor is lava.

David Sumner

She's seen Starman early in her journey here. I believe it's a Patreon exclusive.

David Freese

Taking into account this, 28 Days Later, An American Werewolf in London, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc. I think you're ready to take on John Carpenter's The Thing at this point. It's really not a big stretch from those. But personally, I think the Carpenter you're going to have the most fun with is Big Trouble in Little China, where Kurt Russell is - in a very odd way - the Indiana Jones of it all. Super fun.

tiny baby kitty man

And I haven't seen a single one of them.

Stick Figure Studios

There are 6 sequels, btw. Six.

Philip Alan

Not one of my favorite movies, but it's a fun watch and Cassie and Carly got me to watch it again along with them. Cassie is more "hardcore" than Carly, or Carly is just more soft 😂 At least Carly admitted it wasn't too bad. I like how they gave a nod to "snack-gate" 😛

Todzilla

Carly..that was a pretty quiet neck crack...you did it too early...gotta let that pressure build up.

Anthony Perez

I always laugh at the fact that Burt is played by the dad in "Family Ties", it was an '80s show that made Michael J. Fox famous before he started doing movies. It's extra funny because he's like the polar opposite, on that show he was a total ex-hippy pacifist type and in this he's a gun-loving prepper. Also, the little girl on the pogo stick was the girl in the first Jurassic Park. Victor Wong played Walter Chang and he's in one of my all time favorite wacky fun action movies, "Big Trouble In Little China," with Kurt Russell. Not sure you'd like it Cassie but I love it, it's not quite like any other movie out there, an Action-Adventure-Comedy-Fantasy, originally written as a Martial Arts Western.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Great reaction for the sisters. I have such fond memories of this movie as a kid. My friends and I would always marathon Tremors 1 and 2, and then we'd go outside and pretend that the monsters were real, and would try to traverse around yards without touching the ground. Basically a super over elaborate "the floor is lava" game, but based upon Tremors. I'd really recommend you to check out Tremors 2. It's just as good as the first one.

Astraeos

This is one of my favorite monster movies and one I watch at least once a year. So glad Carly joined you on this one. Both of your reactions made my night! A great movie and great reactions.

Manuel Eckroad

I'm glad you ladies enjoyed the movie , the rock paper scissors game at the end made me laugh out loud have a great week Cassie and Carly

Wyatt Nuxoll

I second this

Jonathan Hall

What a great pick! You gals are so much fun!

Jonathan Hall

One of my favorites. And a perfect final moment for the reaction video. :)

Guy Gordon

Tremors 2 is Dope!

Jacob M

That was a fun reaction. Haven’t seen this movie in decades. Still a fun ride! Top it off with an epic Rochambeau (Rock, paper, scissors) match. What more do you want? 😀 So I guess Ghost didn’t make the cut for October?

Robert da Spruce

this one might be rough but Ink (2009) is a good one

Ry Jo

This one was used to be a favorite, but I enjoyed it with the duo sisters. Also happy ending indeed Carly cracking her neck is at 1:35:32 😁😉

FranciscoGios

even after all these years, Tremors is still fun to watch

JL_83

Cassie - You mean you don't remember Kevin Bacon from Planes, Trains And Automobiles? LOL He was only in it long enough to race Steve Martin for a taxi in the beginning of the movie. ;) Just think that was 3 years before Tremors came out. =) For anyone that enjoys that scene: https://youtu.be/QpO-yF0Ra0c ...and the little girl on the pogo stick would go on to play the slightly older girl in Jurassic Park 3 years later. :D

Dave Hill

also Starman (1984) is also a really good movie, Sci-fi movie but I love sci-fi

Ry Jo

A tightly scripted creature feature. I'm curious to see if you notice the little girl is the same one from Jurassic Park.

Scott Macaulay

"Movie starts in" is great. I hope that keeps showing up

Eric Wallace

Notice the movie ends where it begins, at that rock formation by the cliff, and STAMPEDE starts as a joke but becomes the final plan.

Richard Bourne

The thing vibrating in Bert and Reba's (no one remembers Heather, she's Reba McEntire) basement is a brass polisher. After you shot a round, you clean it by vibratitng it in media, like a sawdusk mix, and then reload it. The "Elephant Gun" was a European 8 gauge shotgun shooting solid lead slugs. Burt and Reba would be considered Survivalists. The term Prepper did not start until 2009. The wall of guns is what some of us call gun porn. If you ever wonder what kind of gun was used in a movie, there is an entire database for that. https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Tremors_(1990)

Richard Bourne

This is almost b movie but it's just good enough to rise above that but is probably one of my favorites. The goofy humor makes it a fun watch for me along with 2 and 3. It reminded me of another funny movie from about the same time I feel like y'all might enjoy called spaced invaders. The girl Mindy is in that one as well.

Bubba Fett

I was 9 when this movie came out. The huge display in the theater scared the crap out of me. Years later finally watched it! I put it on for a good giggle. Even the numerous sequels can be fun to watch. Also Burt with all the guns is played by Michael Gross who was the Dad in Family Ties series. You may not recognize that one but still worth mentioning. 🥰

Nicole

Glad you guys enjoyed this, it was one of my favorites (along with tremors 2 lol) growing up. to me it's a classic, I can watch this and alien.aliens, terminator, predator etc etc all day, but show me a medical procedure or a bone out of the skin or facing the wrong way... and I loose it lol. saw all those movies as a kid and I was like "how did they do that?" show me a ankle bent wrong and I get sick lol. so no worries we all have issues with things nothing to be ashamed of. some movies I would consider to get you out of the scary season and relax (don't know if you have seen these so just tossing all of these out there) 1) Ladyhawk (love story, Knights, a little magic, some jumpy/scary scenes but nothing like tremors) 2) first Knight (Sean Connery, Knights, love story) 3) short Circuit 4) Harry and the Hendersons 5) turner and Hooch (old movie with tom hanks not the TV show) 6) Ghost (a few creepy/ scary scenes but VERY funny) 7) Jumping Jack Flash

Ry Jo

I will fill out the proper form to retract my earlier statement, but this is now my favorite October reaction. 👍😊

Steve Holton

I've seen this movie a few times and I can't believe I am just now noticing how bad Michael Gross is at acting like he knows how to shoot a gun. His arm would be nothing but bruise if he did that for real. And that machine in the gun room was a tumbler. It is used to clean the brass (the case that holds all the parts together) in ammunition before it is reloaded.

Mike Lemon

my favorite reaction!!!!! I am glad you two love Tremors funny thing about this movie the same guys who made this movie made City Slickers

MatthewBrown74m

the creatures were so sensitive to sound the bombs hurt them so they had to run

Ry Jo

I'd like to see them watch some of the real oldie creature feature flicks, like the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," or "The Blob."

Art of Free Speech

I was wondering that myself.

Art of Free Speech

BTW if you and Carly are looking for another fun modern "Creature Feature" similar to this one in tone (with a funny and scary-but-not-too-scary B-movie vibe) for next October, I recommend LAKE PLACID.

Stick Figure Studios

So much fun. It's a spoof of the old drive-in movies. It actually reminds me of the Roadrunner vs Coyote cartoons, esp. with the desert and rocks. A series of problem-solving scenes. Kevin was also at the beginning of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Kevin was in Apollo 13 and Fred played Gus Grissom in The Right Stuff. Fred makes a remark about the Graboids being from Outer Space. Too funny. Next spoof, Fright Night.

Grinznmore

We're just gonna have to duct tape both of you to chairs and force you both to watch The Exorcist and The Conjuring lol

William Bryan

Loved this when I first saw it thirty years ago and it’s aged well. Fun monster romp that strongly echoes the sci-fi/monster flicks of the 50s. Fantastic film all around.

Just Plain Bob

I knew you ladies would enjoy this one. JAWS is not a bad comparison because even though it is scary and suspenseful, it has a real fun vibe to it. When it's over, you feel more exhilarated than disturbed. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (RIP) are hilarious

Stick Figure Studios

The 'Movie starts in...' countdown clock...chef's kiss (*smooch*)! Very helpful.

Steve Mercier

I’m so glad you both seemed to have fun with it. It was probably the best movie for Carly you could have picked.

Cole Jennett

Did you recognize Ariana Richards, who also played Lexi in Jurassic Park?

Ben Livingstone

One of my favourite movies. I thought you would like it too😊

Björn Von Knorring

The River Wild is an excellent movie.

Nathan Bishop

Thank you for another great reaction. Always brings a smile to my face

Bill Hayden

One of my all time favourite movies, glad you liked it

iCZero

Your expressions are soooo funny !!!!!!!! Appreciate the both of you for allowing us into your lives

Bill Maurer

Kevin Bacon was the bad guy in the 1994 movie The River Wild with Myerl Streep and David Strathairn

Richard Bourne

It’s always a treat getting to come home after a long day and see that you’ve uploaded. Always brings a smile to my face😊😊🖤🖤

M&M

Wait... January chick flick month? Yes! I love chick flicks and with a whole month there is a chance for City of Angels (1998).

Mike Lemon

I LOVE tremors 2! so funny

Ry Jo

I absolutely love this movie, the first sequel is also great and one of the better straight to video sequels of the 90s

Choof

Yes! One of my favorites growing up, can’t wait to watch this after work!

Gilbert Gonzalez

First The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special, and now Tremors. Seems like everything’s coming up Kevin Bacon today!

Cole Jennett

Hope you both enjoyed it. Cant wait to watch.

JC762

I saw this when I was around 5 and it because a big part of my life somehow for awhile. USA network seems to play it almost every weekend. The first sequel is almost as good if not better in terms of surprises and jokes, definitely give Tremors 2: Aftershocks a spot

Dustin Nelson

The Ultimate B Movie, It's just a lovely romp from start to finish. The late great Fred Ward is just perfect here.

Dryfesands

I can't wait to watch this when I get back from the Stupid Market! <3

Joseph M Sica

Kevin Bacon is hilarious in this. RIP Fred Ward.

Robin Craft

Ghost coming???

Seymor Butz

Great to have Carly back! Hope her spy…umm…I mean work trip went well! 😉 Looking forward to watching your reaction tonight!

Robert da Spruce

Awesome! I hope you two enjoyed it, as it's certainly a favorite of mine. Good blend of comedy and scariness with really well written and acted characters.

PapaXan

TREMORS !!!!!!!!!! Thanks Ladies !!!

Bill Maurer

BAH! I should sleep, been up for close to 30hrs. But also !!!TREMORS!!!

David RedEagle

Can't wait to see your reaction! One of my fave movies! Saw it at the drive-in way back when it came out, lol! I don't think it would be too much for Carly, can't wait to see her reaction as well!
