Robin Hood (1973) - Full Reaction

Hey Hey you you!!

Ok here is the cute, whimsical Robin Hood from Disney. I just want to print all these characters for my kids walls, they are just so cute, and dare I say that Fox is hunky haha!  Ok again, glad I watched the 1938 version before this or I might have missed a lot. I know I would have loved this as a kid, in fact I am going to have a popcorn night with my kids tonight and show them this. Sorry I was pretty blinkety blinkety in this, I think my body is fighting off what my kids have had so I was pretty tired, not for lack of being entertained and cutified by this!

Robin Hood (1973) - Full Reaction

My favorite Robin Hood, to me all the others are just imposters.. :)

Ryan Towell

Here is a movie you might be interested in If you like the Robin Hood ad Maid Marian story. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075147/. Robin and Marian, Ive not watched it but it cant go wrong with Sean Connery as Robin Hood and Audrey Hepburn as Maid Marian

Steve Salazar

I LOVED this one as a kid, definitely had a bit of a crush on robin, what can I say? Watching again as an adult, WOW its just so adorable! An instant classic. So happy to be able to watch with you.

I watched this movie a lot as a kid, so I have a tremendous amount of nostalgic affection for it. It was basically my introduction to the legend of Robin hood (and hey Marion may have been my first animated crush as a boy). It's bright, colorful and utterly charming, but held up against other Disney movies, it's definitely on the lower end of the totem pole. It comes from Disney's "Bronze Age," when animation methods were getting more cost efficient and the storytelling wasn't nearly as ambitious as it was during Walt's reign. It's interesting that I just finished the autobiography of Don Bluth (one of my favorite animators who got his start in Disney but later left to make his own films like SECRET OF THEM, AND AMERICAN TAIL, LAND BEFORE TIME, ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN and ANASTASIA) and he talks a bit about this film -- which he worked on --- and how he didn't think the villain was quite menacing enough. Peter Ustinov is great as Prince John, but they allowed him to improvise so many comedic elements that the character got sillier, more childish and ultimately less threatening. When I watch it now that becomes very apparent to me. Still an enjoyable flick, but wouldn't even crack Disney's top 20 best animated features now I think.

This was my absolute favorite as a kid. I had a tshirt that my mom washed at a record thirteen days in a row for me. I wore it to rags. I definitely wanted to be Robin and was a bit in love with him as well.

Cassie has heard, and seen, Ken Curtis sing, in one of the bar scenes in The Quiet Man. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXBgKmBBDYM

This is the cutest!

Alex Villarreal

This movie was the one I watched the most and yes, I cried more then a few times. Love it. It has fun times but also serious times that can grab the hearts. And yes, I did have a crush on Robin too lol

GamerGal8684

Disagree, Fox and the Hound was in that "era" and I think it is much better.

Mike Lemon

Most certainly the best thing to come out of the Disney Dark Age.

Robin Hood Goes Country & Western. That was a lot of fun. So glad You liked it. How could you not, really? Such a great story with characters that make you feel. When the Sheriff takes Skippy's present on his birthday, your heart just sinks and the tears start flowing. Robin and Marian's Romance is beautiful. A marriage proposal in the middle of a fight scene, always fun. This Robin Hood is great for all ages, but it's also great that it makes you feel like a kid again. Gosh I miss old Disney. Disney recruited some of the most recognizable voices from Western/Country TV and films. Andy Devine, who played Friar Tuck, was in numerous Westerns and probably has the most iconic voice. He played the stagecoach driver in Stagecoach (1939) alongside John Wayne, which was Wayne's major break. Pat Buttram, who played the Sheriff of Nottingham, was probably most known for The Gene Autry Show and Green Acres. You might recognize his voice, in Back to the Future: Part III, as one of the Old Timers in the saloon who says, "everybody everywhere will say, Clint Eastwood is the biggest yellow-belly in the West." The two vultures were George Lindsey who played "Goober" on the Andy Griffith Show and Ken Curtis who played "Festus" on Gunsmoke. People who only know Ken Curtis from Gunsmoke might not know that he had a beautiful singing voice and was the lead vocalist for Sons of the Pioneers in the 1950s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJpLKaXxVW8 Last but not least, our Songbird from Robin Hood, literally, singer and songwriter Roger Miller, who played The Rooster and Narrator. You may have heard his songs before but didn't know it was him. I've heard you mention before, Cassie, that you didn't like country music. Perhaps Roger Miller could be a gateway. Don't forget about The Postman.

Larry Darrell

This was fun! Everyone seems to be watching a "Oh, I've never seen this Robin Hood movie before" movie this week, and this one is mine. I was very impressed seeing Peter Ustinov (Prince Lion, er, John) and Terry Thomas (Hiss, the snake) in the voice cast, you would not associate these two movie actors with an animated movie, I wonder if they ever did another animated movie. Love how Cassie got caught up in the cuteness of the characters, and she always loves a love story! On to Prince of Thieves and the scene this week that I am most anticipating!

MikeLL

My older son was really upset when he watched Lion King so I totally understand why you cried a lot. We have a copy of the vhs Little Mermaid with the questionable cover. I personally love the music in the Little Mermaid but that might be because my wife can sing all the songs and sometimes still does😁 Glad your are enjoying the Robinhood series!

Steven Ashford

This reminded me of The Sting (also from 1973!) with the disguises and acting. "Hey, old Rob's not a bad actor. But wait till he sees this scene I lay on Prince John" - Little John

Ginko

"Robin Hood and Little John are walkin' thru the forest, laughin' back 'n forth betwixt the other'n had to saaayeee." love this song. Ol' balou is the bomb. Shout out to his Tailspin show/theme song!

Christopher Smith

That cuteness in the "kids" and the attractiveness of the foxes is why I still prefer traditional or cell animation (hand drawn) over computer animation. Those artists had so much talent and passion back then. Don't get me wrong, computer animation has produced some amazing things, I just thing that cell animation can imbue more heart and soul into an animated film. You will LOVE "Aristocats"! It was the film that my Mom also loved to watch with me when I was a small boy. Very fond memories. I think you were talking about "The Rescuers Down Under". Good film also, but I prefer the original, if only a little more. Are you stopping at these four versions? I only ask because there is a 2010 version with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett that is a little grittier than the others.

Doug Fisher

I think you would love Robin Hood: Men in Tights by Mel Brooks

Sol-Edge

This movie fills me with so much nostalgia. At least 20 years since I've seen it, but certain bits transport me back to being a little kid laying on my stomach in the living room, staring at the TV. I am so stoked to see what you think about the Costner version of the story, especially because it gives me an excuse to watch it again for the first time in at least 15 years. Also at some point you're going to get so much Costner in your bloodstream that you'll have to do Waterworld just to round it all out. And I unabashedly love that movie. I will defend it until the day I die.

tiny baby kitty man

I know this is a Robin Hood video, but there are more than 2 thousand members here, we should all watch Saving Private Ryan reaction once more to get it over the 1 million views. Get to another Popcorn in Bed major milestone.

Brian McGovern

A Goofy Movie is one of your favorite Disney movies? I liked it growing up and I watched it a couple years ago- still enjoyable! But youre the 1st person I've heard list it among their favorites.

My_Cousin_Mose

The Great Mouse Detective is underrated for sure.

My_Cousin_Mose

gosh, I haven't seen this movie in what feels like an eterinity, in fact I think the last time saw this, I was in 3rd grade, dang lol! unfortunately these days, I don't really care much for this version of Robin Hood, I'm not saying I don't like it or that it's bad, no of course not, I just kinda out grew it lol, it happens over time lol! heck, there's still some scenes that actually still make me laugh lol! I'm really happy that you enjoyed watching this, boggles my mind that you never saw this as a kid SAY WHAT!!!!!!!!!!😱LOL😂 when I was a kid at school, there wasn't a kid alive who had never seen this movie lol! glad you want to watch this with your kids, that makes me smile! I'm also glad you took us Patrons advice to watch the 1938 Robin Hood before watching this one lol!😁 I'm so looking forward to your reaction to "Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves" so much anticipation and excitement lol! till then, stay classy Cassie lol!😁😉👍

Wesley White

yes , that was so much fun, when Im smiling throughout a movie thats a good time

zynjams

Honestly this movie is *still* my number one favorite Disney movie of all time, I think - and Robin Hood was absolutely the reason why I have such a thing for English guys to this day (fully admit, though, I did and still do think Robin Hood as a fox was insanely handsome) lol

Rue

You're right. That fox is a fox.

Nathan Bishop

It was The Mandalorian’s voice that first entranced Cassie, too…

Jason Chirevas

I watched this A LOT when i was younger. Ha....good times!

Alex

Probably my favorite of the four Robin Hoods being watched this week, with Prince of Thieves being second (without watching it for many years. Will it still hold up?). I wonder how Cassie is going to rank them?

Mike Lemon

Hopefully you and your kids enjoy it. It brought a part of my childhood back tonight.

David Freese

We are Brothers is like that now. Not sure about the other 25 or so reactions but I do know some aren't transferred over yet.

David Freese

This used to be my favorite Disney movie along with The Great Mouse Detective.

granny_goodness

Man, this brings me back. It was one of my favs as a kid, That and The Brave Little Toaster.

David RedEagle

Unrelated question-I just remembered a post in which she said her first group of reactions would be reposted in the current format, with the video blurred in the corner. Anyone who follows all her endeavors closer than I do know if thats still a thing? I've been looking forward to it.

Variable38

loved this movie as a kid, its a classic :)

Victoria Cousins

I've always thought Maid Marion was a real fox in this one! ;-) Cassie calling out "Oo da la lee! Long live King Richard!" was when I knew that this version had captured her. Great reaction Cassie, I've loved this since I was a kid 45 years ago.

Sean Novack

I was obsessed with this version of Robin Hood growing up. Still my favorite.

Philip Herman

The song you were thinking of did come from the opening. It's just a sped up version. And the evil vultures you're thinking of are in the Jungle Book.

aarswft

When a little cold extra visits drink lots of liquids and bundle up well at night so body needs not devote energy to keeping you warm it can go to fighting cold etc, Nurse taught me that, called Her Mom.

Danny T

I never saw this growing up either....but I recognize the music. So I must've heard the album at some point.

Caomhan84

Loved this as a kid when they used to play it on the wonderful world of Disney on Sunday nights. When someone mentions Robin Hood these are the version I think of . Glad you enjoyed it

Canadianant

That would make for an interesting reaction. I haven’t seen too many channels react to it.

Tim Raths

Uncle Phoenix

First it was a wolf, now a fox? It must be the voice behind the canine haha

Andrew Ramos

The Russell Crowe one will be a fun one to watch at some point.
