Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation - Full Reaction

Hey guys! How many other movie series keep getting better?! I don't want these to end! This one had us guessing the whole time and loved having the band back together! Sorry for the sound quality in the intro and the first ~20 minutes of the reaction... it gets better I promise! Hope you guys enjoy :):)

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation - Full Reaction

Comments

Thanks for the reaction! This is my second favorite of all of them. My order is 1) Fallout, 2) Rogue Nation, 3) MI III 4) The original 5) Dead Reckoning I 6) MI II 7) Ghost Protocol. It's always been a mystery to me why Ghost Protocol got such good reviews. IMO it's the worst of the franchise by far, mostly because of lack of chemistry between the team members. Anyway, as always I'm going to mention my favorite movie of all time, "Annihilation"... same director as "Ex Machina", stars Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac (Dune), I really think you guys would love it. See you soon!

Kit Taylor

The best I've ever been able to do was 2 minutes and 22 seconds, for holding my breath. I cannot comprehend how some can go for five minutes or more.

DesertSwordsman

Okay hold on, to be fair the first one wasn't any good. They bought the franchise but then they threw out the premise in the first movie so basically they just paid for the theme song. After that they got better somewhere along the way.

Em McG

Maybe not an extended one. But at the very beginning when Cruise comes running into frame, I feel like that was almost a wink at the audience.

WastedPo

There was no infamous running scene in this installment. Anyone else notice that?

John Cranberry

Maybe watch movies for the first time on your own? Or maybe start your own reaction channel? Someone guessing or speculating on a plot point or twist isn’t a spoiler if they happen to be correct. Carly is watching the movies for the first time too. That her thought process and method of engagement while watching differs from your wife’s is not something to be corrected or criticized. Some of the stuff people bust out here is truly special…

Jason Chirevas

Cassie & Carly Return to Casablanca. Thanks Girls, you're gonna love Fallout.

Larry Darrell

Cassie my wife is asking for a favor. She is hoping you could ask Carly to try and refrain from giving away plot twists or at least guessing them or what's gonna happen next. A lot of these films she is watching for the first time too and avoiding spoilers would be appreciated. I'd like to continue watching these with her so if there is anything you can do it would be appreciated. Thank you!

London Davis

I'm impressed that Cassie held her breath for nearly a minute! Tom Cruise, on the other hand, trained so that he could hold his breath for six minutes for that underwater sequence. Why? Because he's Tom Cruise.

DoomsdayMachine

If you see Tom Cruise doing something insane hes doing the actual stunt. Holding on the plane, shimming up the pole, holding his breath underwater for an insane period of time, and all of the driving and motorcycling

Eric Wallace

Fallout is the best one too!

Andrew

This one threw me for a loop… I’d sworn I had seen all the Mission Impossible movies, but as I’m watching, nothing seemed familiar… turns out, I’ve never seen one second of this film… but it’s now one of my faves…. That underwater scene should be shown in film schools as how to build suspense… incredible.

Jeff Milcheck

When Carly comes back you guys need to see Fallout, both sisters would be surprised.

FranciscoGios

Written and Directed by Shane Black at his peak.

Steve Colletti

The feature that came with the Blu-ray said 6 minutes, but still amazing

Steve Colletti

I was going to suggest this myself. It would be a good thing to tide them over until the MI-7 as well.

WastedPo

“When in most of these movies it doesn’t really matter what The Thing is” I think Ben Grimm(a.k.a. The Thing) would take issue with that statement! 😉

Robert da Spruce

I think what makes this such a great entry in the franchise is how well it balances the big action set pieces with the twisty-turny "who can you trust" vibe of the first movie. It's much more than a "bad guy wants The Thing, we have to keep him from getting The Thing", when in most of these movies it doesn't really matter what The Thing is. But coming from the same guy who wrote The Usual Suspects, I would expect nothing less :)

Patrick Egan

Great reaction! I'm not sure if that one or the next one is my favorite...but I'm pretty sure you will enjoy 'Fallout' for a few reasons.

TwistedMagoo

I wonder if a 'behind the scenes' reaction would be a possibility. After they wrap up the series (before Dead Reckoning comes out), I would love to see their reaction to the making of all the crazy stunts they've seen. I watched the plane stunt featurette before watching this, and it really is incredible to see how it's done. I mean, the man got strapped to a plane while it took off. 8 times!

Erik Daniel

Cassie, that was funny when you mimicked the villain, Solomon Lane. LOL! Another genius action packed Mission Impossible.

Eric

that ending is more like the original tv series . it was awesome

zynjams

Hold your Breath contest! You guys crack me up! 🤣 As others have mentioned, Rebecca Ferguson is the mother in Dune. I think you’re more likely to know her from “The Greatest Showman” though. Great reaction ladies! I had a fun time! Looking forward to the next one!

Robert da Spruce

I thought fetch was the word that one of the Mean Girls tried to make popular, but was told it would never happen…. So I guess it did happen?!?

N M

Carly says “fetch” more often than I say “phooey.” My compliments, fellow potty mouth.

Jamison Bognuda

I think this is the best movie in the series, because it combines the wild stunts of 4-6 with the more dedicated spy thriller material of the first Mission: Impossible movie. In case you were wondering, the stunt in this one that really took the cake was actually the plane stunt -- Cruise really strapped himself to the side of an airplane and went up 1,000 feet in the air on it for that sequence. I believe he did four takes of it. Can't wait to see you get to Fallout, which is no slouch even if I think this one is perfect. Lots of surprises that you two are going to flip out over. It will be fun even if it's the end for now -- and, sadly, the next Mission: Impossible is not only not coming out this year, but it won't be out until summer 2023. It's the first of a two-parter, and the second one is supposed to be Cruise's final Mission: Impossible movie. Can't wait to see how it all wraps up.

Tyler Foster

Not the first time the series has referenced it either. When I finally watched 3 Days of the Condor, it is striking how much the beginning of the first Mission: Impossible is modeled on the beginning of Condor.

Tyler Foster

I can't express how excited I am for this. I knew it was coming, and it crossed my mind that it could be up when I got home from work, but I never thought I'd be that lucky. Wooo let's go!

Erik Daniel

This was great. I forgot that Carly is a fan of Alias. We use to have watch parties for Alias. We also had watch parties for a British spy series called "MI-5." MI-5 was great since it seemed very realistic. Looking forward to the next Mission.

Patrick Reynolds

Hmmm you are swedish right? Yes you are. I was sloppy when I read your comment.😆 I harass all Scandinavians here 🤪 I guess you have seen Fcuking Åmål? Did you like it? I'm trying to get Cassie doing a reaction of that movie. Sooooo I wonder If you can request that movie in popcorn request. The name here is Show me love 😃

Björn Karlsson

If you like Michelle Monaghan, you should watch "Kiss, Kiss Bang Bang" with Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer!

Michael Jung

I LOVE Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust in this movie. But I might be a bit biased since I'm from Sweden (she's also Swedish for those who didn't know). She is a total badass and she actually saves Ethans life twice in this movie (three times if you count when he is almost falling off the roof of the opera house. Some reviews I have seen even argue that she is a stronger spy/assassin than Ethan, which in my opinion is an awesome move to promote female power. A bit of trivia is that in the very famous movie Casablanca, Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman played the leading female role against Humphrey Bogart. Her characters name is Ilsa Lund, same first name as Ilsa Faust in this movie, played by Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson. And a major part of the movie takes place in Casablanca, Morocco.

Martin Björling

Wouldn't say there isn't romance, but more like sexual tension

Sahitya

Mission Impossible always starts off right in the middle of a mission, then… (drumroll) *dun dun DUN!-DUN! dun dun dun* Gets me in the spy mood every time. How many franchises do that? So good.

Ike

Wouldn’t it be amazing if Cassie and Carly watched 300 as one of the October Pseudo-Scary movies?

Uncle Phoenix

It’s been brilliant watching all the MI movies again with both of you as it’s the closest I’ll get to seeing them again for the first time. After you’ve seen Fallout you’ll have to watch the Jack Reacher movies as they are great action films. As the new Mi film is out next year. A few other Tom Cruise films you should check out is American Made, Edge of Tomorrow, Collateral, Jerry Maguire, Rain Man and Cocktail you should really like that as it’s romantic comedy/drama.

Dean Holt

It was a good movie experience. If Tom Cruise is making a big budget action movie it always seems like a must see in theater.

James1035

It's said Tom got his inspiration for doing dangerous stunts from Steve McQueen whom he greatly admired..they have some personality traits in common with each other..When you watch "The great escape" I think you'll see what I'm getting at. :)

Celeste McAllister

In the scene when Hunt is in London reporting back to Brandt, where the guy answers the sat comm center phone there was a brief, two second clip of this phone call routing guy sitting at his console with a row of old school phones with a red light on one side and green on the other. If you blinked you missed it. That looked like a scene straight out of the Robert Redford movie “3 Days of the Condor” where the wheelchair guy, callsign “the major” answers the phones and routes them. Right after that, while chasing Hunt in Cuba, they are using call sign “Brimstone” which seems like a shout out to the early Bourne movie. Connection - both of those movies have the agency chasing down their own guys, too.

Greg M

I really love your post and had not noticed how Kraemer used the opera piece as a theme for Ilsa. Thanks for pointing that out. As for the music in general, usually the film composer will incorporate two key pieces of the original TV show score. The first of course is the familiar TV show theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwpXUn2dF5c and the second is a piece of music called The Plot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhbzW7Vz-j4&list=RDT8lmSxTH3NA&index=3 Joe Kraemer incorporated both pieces of music into this section of the Rogue Nation score titled The A400: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCDZ36rIt1s&list=OLAK5uy_m4GImF6N0eXgAwlOy6---EPkDPHUrxFDI&index=2 I just love the Mission Impossible music and the film scores.

MikeLL

You reconize the woman because she was the mother in Dune. Rebecca Fergusen

Andrew Rose

One of my favorite sci fi movies, might be because of Emily blunt though…

Goony71

Thank goodness Cassie stood up against that Catherine Zeta Jones nonsense!

David

This one and the next one are the best of the series. Sooooo looking forward to next year's MI movie. Another Tom Cruise movie you should check out (yes, I know, submit it on the web page ...) is Edge of Tomorrow. Thanks, enjoy what you (and sis) do. Have a great rest of week and an even better weekend.

Bill Maurer

“Are they gonna kiss?” 🤦‍♀️ Lol leave it to Cassie to look for the romance in a film where there is absolutely no romance. Had me laughing so hard. This franchise is just so dang good!! If you wanna see Tom in a much different kinda role watch born on the Fourth of July and interview with the vampire. Both great but very difficult films!!

brooke atkins

One of the things I like about this movie is how the score composer (Joe Kraemer) incorporated the "Nessun Dorma" opera piece throughout to represent Ilsa. It actually starts in the very first scene that she's in with just a bare hint of it in the minor key when she turns around. And then we hear it in earnest as "source music" when Ethan gets a good look at her from a distance during the actual opera. And again much later when she asks Ethan to run away with her. Finally there's a pretty full version at the very end when they say goodbye. (There might've been more instances, but those really stuck out for me.)

WastedPo

Ilsa Faust is definitely one of the coolest characters in the entire franchise. Rebecca Ferguson did such a great job. Not only had she never done fight work before, SHE'S AFRAID OF HEIGHTS.

Patrick Egan

You are in Christopher McQuarrie's world now. He: -wrote The Usual Suspects -wrote some other films Tom Cruise starred in, Valkyrie (2008), Jack Reacher (2012 and directed) The Mummy (2017) -wrote and directed M:I Rogue Nation -wrote and directed M:I Fallout -is writing and directing the next two M:I's Dead Reckoning Part 1 (2023) and Part 2 (2024) It's his world now. We just watch movies in it.

MikeLL

ooooh I love that, was hoping for a little continuity...

Cassie

OMG I could not place her! Greatest Showman and Dune, I can sleep now haha

Cassie

I can't wait, might need to move it up! Was going to wait until November after scary month, but we shall seeeee

Cassie

That really is so cool! A gentlemen and a scholar ;) haha Like the plane was moving~~?!?!? what in the world!

Cassie

ba dum dum ching hahaha

Cassie

I think Tom learned to hold his breath for about 8 minutes to film that underwater scene

Night King01

After MI:7 next year, what's supposed to be the grand finale MI:8 will be broken up into 2 parts. So lots more action still to come. Can't wait! =)

Dave Hill

What's great is Rogue Nation and Fallout are basically one big movie

Jason Dolan

This one is my favorite, but just by a bit over Fallout.

Steve Colletti

Nice!! Wish I didn’t have to go to work right now! 😀 Looking forward to watching this one tonight!!

Robert da Spruce

Definitely my favourite of the series. One of my favourite theatre experiences of my life. The series stops it’s ascent here in my opinion, but 6 is as good as 4 imo, so not a big dip by any means.

Cole Jennett

I agree. I think she would like all three of those movies. Think she should do Shaun of the Dead for October. Kind of fits scary, but not to scary

James1035

Carly and Cassie? sisters.. Additionally MI1 featured their dear mother..

Wirenfeldt Jr

Im confused sisters? or just friends? The woman is a swedish actress and she played the mom in the new Dune

Jayson Phillips

Dude...

aarswft

This was good but I am VERY EXCITED for you two to watch 6.

aarswft

It’s pretty impressive actually. Most franchises get worse as they go on.

James1035

The Mission Impossible franchise is everything you could want in an action franchise. I’ve said it before Tom Cruise knows how to make an entertaining movie.

James1035

Agent Carter, the female member of the team in Ghost Protocol was played by Paula Patton; she allegedly had a scheduling conflict which kept her from returning for this one

JL_83

this one is my favorite. rebecca ferguson's performance is mesmerizing

Wu Sha Ling

You two are so good together! The next one (Fallout) is BONKERS! (so gooooood)

Philip Alan

Fallout is much better. Henry Cavill is so good.

James Reeves

The second one is a spoiler.

Ron

Ooo nice! one to watch this evening! If your enjoying Simon Pegg take on a larger role in the MI series, make some time to watch Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The Worlds End.

Biggman83

Can't wait to check out this one! Sadly, 8 hours of work just started. Assuming you asked, yes, he did hang on the side of a real plane: https://youtu.be/ZIjKXTeU17Q

Gábor Árki

Thanks to this movie, Edge of Tomorrow & Mission Impossible Fallout I had the pleasure of working with Tom Cruise (in the loosest of terms) 3 times in 4 years as part of the Air Force liaison team. From my experience he appeared to be a true gentleman wanting nothing but the best for his cast, crew and movie. And yes he really did all of the stunt sequence at the start of this movie.

Chris Mick

Yeah it keeps getting better and better! You got that right!

MikeLL

This is my favorite most of the time, but i go back and forth with it and fallout. You might as well change the channel name from "popcorn in bed" to "Tom Cruise in bed" lol. Ill see my myself out

Sahitya

Forgot to switch mic on. Tsk tsk. Maybe create a check list to tick things off moving forward.

Brian McGovern

MI5 WHOOAAHH.
