Prey - Full Reaction

Well this was not at all what I was expecting it to be like, but in a good way. I mean, that creature will disturb me forever, but I loved the storytelling of it and the setting and that was totally Alberta!! I told my dad this morning he had to watch this!

You hated this but want her to watch predator 2 HA

Clayton Spinks

Have just watched the English and Native tongue versions on DVD and the Native version is a far superior version.

Jeremy Morgan

Wow, what a pleasant find. I started watching this movie but never finished it, was enjoying it, just never got back to it, out of curiosity, I thought I'd punch it in here, see if Cassie watched it and sure enough, now I can finally finish watching this.

JPDotCom23

Excellent movie. 6 Emmy nominations. I liked your reaction. Definitely skip Predator 2.

Clay F

I hated this movie however I enjoyed your reaction nonetheless. I do hope you put predator 2 in the pipeline at some point soon.....

David Bennett

In a sense they are like Indians, they have to hunt and bring home trophies to be considered adults. The ultimate prize was the Alien Queen.

Jayson Phillips

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha………hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaha!!!!

Jason Chirevas

I did not like this movie. Too woke for my taste.

Steve Smith

It's coming before the Robin Hood movies if today's post stays in course.

David Freese

Hi Cassie. Loved the reaction. If you ever do wanna watch the Comanche version it is on Hulu it's in the start movie part before you start it up under Comanche dub next to extras. Thanks I really loved this movie so glad I got to watch it for the first time with you.

David Freese

I thought that was a great bait n switch from the director. You think it is gonna be a homage to the OG but it turns out to be used in a completely different, yet effective way.

Jedi Psy

Cassie: The mud is good, it will protect you. Patrons Watching: Umm, that's quicksand Cassie 🙄

Predator 2 was more interesting than this? Agree to disagree, that movie was entertaining and gave us some great Easter eggs, but Prey makes 2 look like a B movie. For me the first will probably always be the best because even as a total stand alone it's a nearly perfect action/sci-fi/thriller. Predators with Adrien Brody I rate a close second for two reasons, the ending is a cliffhanger begging for a sequel, and I wanted to know more about Adrien Brody's character. But I honestly don't get how some people can watch Prey and think it sucks. First off that was the best kill of a predator in the entire franchise. Second, the Predator had some of the coolest kills in the entire franchise, not to mention he/she whatever held up a full grown Grizzly bear over it's head like it was the Stanley Cup. Third, the setting was an inspired choice, of course a Comanche would inherently understand a fellow hunter and warrior, and Naru was the better predator because she better understood the nature and behavior of her prey. And frankly I also loved it because I love seeing more indigenous characters on screen with actual agency and at least some dimension.

I watched True Lies recently and it didn't hold up at all for me (even though I loved it as a kid) The things that Arnie submits JLC to are pretty gross and give off creepy vibes. Anti-Arab sentiments are also front and center which would offend modern day sensibilities.

Jedi Psy

Great reaction Cassie! Aubrey Plaza is the actress from Parks and Rec. I also thought she looked a little like iCarly. 😀 I also noticed when I fired up the Ol’ Hulu app, that True Lies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is available to stream on Hulu. Last time I checked, True Lies is your most requested movie. I also remember reading in one of the comments that it previously wasn’t available to stream readily in the US. I have no idea if that played a role in why you haven’t reacted to the movie yet. But if it is, it’s now available on Hulu. Just an FYI. Who knows, maybe that has nothing to do with why you haven’t reacted to it. Maybe you just haven’t found the time. Or there’s other movies you want to watch first. Or maybe you’re just not that into Arnold. If that’s the case, the movie does also star Bill Paxton(Twister) in one of his more iconic roles. Anyways, I enjoyed your reaction to Prey! And personally, I don’t think you’re missing anything by not having seen Predator 2. It wasn’t the greatest movie IMHO.

Robert da Spruce

Nope, Predators and Predator 2 were both better films with stronger casts. Prey is just the flavor of the month.

Brian Jones

The way I understood the projectile weapon is that pulling it out arms the laser guidance system and after a certain distance the bolt redirects to follow a path to the laser's target. They don't explain it but Naru observed how it worked in the fight with the search party and when the Predator tried using it without its helmet fighting her brother

LMrcs

oh no i missed that, i would def watch a sequel though!

Cassie

I still like the first Predator movie the best, but this one was easily the next best one in the series. Had low expectations going into it, but I ended up liking it.

James1035

Speaking as someone who has seen virtually every sequel/spin-off to PREDATOR, this is easily the best entry in this series after the original. No, you do not need to have seen any of the subsequent movies to enjoy, appreciate or even understand this one. So pleased that you gave it a shot (see what I did there?).

Stick Figure Studios

I'm so glad you chose to watch this movie, it's easily one of the best movies of 2022, and the best Predator movie since the original. It's also one of the most beautifully shot movies I've seen in a long time. Short version about the Predator's motives, they're basically trophy hunters. They travel to other worlds to seek out the most dangerous prey. This movie is supposed to represent the first time one of them came to Earth to hunt. As for how the Predator's arrows/darts/whatever work, they're like guided missiles or smartbombs. They fly to wherever the targeting laser is pointing. Naru noticed that when her brother knocked its helmet off, the arrows missed her dog and her brother, and hit the tree where the helmet's lasers where pointing. The Comanche audio track is a cool idea, but it's an overdub, so the characters' mouths are still speaking English. But it is the original actors speaking Comanche on the dub. I kinda wish they'd actually filmed them speaking Comanche, it would have worked a lot better.

Patrick Egan

agree with the chat ! Cassie should consider very seriously watching " Predators 2" (1990) with the great Danny Glover !

Flocon McKinley

Loved this reaction video; and I definitely have to watch the Comanche version. I also think that the Predator 2’s tie in's would make that a good choice; and Paul W.S. Anderson’s 2004 Alien vs. Predator would make for another great reaction video, even though it had poor reviews, it was a popular movie. (Grossing over $177 million at the box office.)

Uncle Phoenix

For as much blood and decapitations I saw I liked it. Words Cassie would probably never utter until this channel!😂

Steven Ashford

LOVED this movie and was thrilled to see you react to it, Cassie! Glad to see this franchise getting some new life breathed into it. Excited to see where they go from here. They def hinted at a follow-up movie if you watch the end credits. Just before the credits go to black (from the canvas looking background) the music changes and you see the native drawings point towards the sky and the drawings of several predator ships coming from the clouds are shown. Maybe a search party looking for the predator that Naru slayed?

Dave Hill

I was one of the many advocating for Cassie to watch this because I thought it was a good movie and also filmed in Alberta. I knew the gruesome nature would be a bit much for her but I thought that the story in itself was redeeming. To me this came across as one example of where you could have a badass female lead and that she earned "the win" because of the strugglings along the way. She used all of her skills medical, hunting, intelligence to beat the hunter. Great movie to me. Would love to see more in the predator universe with different time periods. Medieval, ancient Egypt and different areas and cultural settings Africa china Russia etc.

There is tons of lore on the internet and in numerous books and graphic novels that take really deep dives into the Predator universe. Their race is called "Yautja" (pronounced Yah-oot-juh). They are a technologically advanced, honor-bound hunter/warrior culture who travel the galaxy to find and hunt the toughest prey in order to prove themselves and to gain status among their race. During hunts, trophies are taken in the form of skulls, which are then presented back on the Yautja home world. The Yautja bringing back the most trophies of the worthiest prey are granted higher social status among their clan. A Yautja will only kill an armed opponent, otherwise it is a dishonorable kill. Likewise, they will not kill children or pregnant females, lest they bring dishonor to themselves and risk being disowned from their clan. Young Yautja must prove themselves in a coming of age ritual where they go on a solo hunt to become "blooded". Typically this is where they will hunt the most difficult prey of all - the Xenomorph, as shown in the Alien franchise. A Yautja who survives such a hunt and brings back a Xenomorph skull is considered a worthy hunter and can then choose his or her hunts from then forward. A Yautja's dreadlocks can be braided in different configurations or adorned with different types of ornaments or bands, which can also give a bit of history into past hunts and the individual's social status. In this particular story, it really seems like this Yautja was quite young and inexperienced. The fact that he begins with the most trivial of prey, starting with a snake, then a wolf, moving on to a bear, really shows that he doesn't have much understanding or beforehand knowledge of the "food chain" on planet Earth. Plus, his dreadlocks have little to no braiding, indicating that he doesn't have much hunting experience. Couple that with the fact that he seems to at times forget or be amused by how his own weapons work, and it seems pretty obvious that this Yautja was very early into his hunting career. Which may very well explain how a single smart and resourceful native girl was able to defeat him, despite his superior size, strength, and technology. While I absolutely loved this film, I have to admit that any seasoned Yautja would not have been defeated like this one was. I'm all for a good David and Goliath type story and root for the underdog, but there's just no way a primitive culture like these natives or even the well-armed French trappers could have taken out an adult Predator. Even so, like I said, great film and I'm glad you got to enjoy it. As others have said, you can pretty much skip the rest of the Predator movies. You really aren't missing much in terms of story, although each film is entertaining in its own rite.

Mike Swisher

I loved this movie! Thank you Cassie so much for watching it!! 🙂🙂

Ed Garland

Predator 2 is a better film than Prey, by a longshot. As is Predators. Prey falls about 4th on the list of Predator films, right above the AvP movies. All of them are better than that Shane Black POS though.

Brian Jones

Mission Impossible is pushed to next week.

Philip Alan

a tad bit of suspension of disbelief. I feel you on that one.

Philip Alan

Yes, the native language version made the movie that much better! That was my biggest qualm. The helmet targeting system guided the arrows. So the helmet, at the end, was pointed right back at The Predator. So when he fired at her, the arrow made its way back to THE CHOPPAHHHH!! (the Predator)

Philip Alan

I find it hard to believe that this Native girl stood a chance against a Predator when Arnie, Carl Weathers, and the rest of the team with all their guns and muscles barely won the fight.

My_Cousin_Mose

We watched this when it first came out and didn't like it at all. The dialog felt too contemporary for Native Americans and it put us off off the whole film. So we are passing on this watch along. Cassie, are we still getting Thor and Mission Impossible this weekend? Thanks

London Davis

I was looking forward to MI 😭

John Cranberry

Yes!!! Honestly my third watch of the movie and I'm still excited to watch it with Cassie!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Predator 2 is an okay movie. You aren’t missing all that much. There is a connection between Prey and Predator 2,that does lead to some questions and another possible sequel to Prey. If they make a sequel to Prey, it may serve you better to have not seen Predator 2 until that sequel does come out.

Brian McGovern

Ive heard this was good like the first, a slow thriller build up. Wasn't expecting you to react to this one, glad I haven't got around to watching this.

David RedEagle

Damn, didn't know this one was in the pipe! I only watched it a couple days ago but dang, I really enjoyed it... ROUND 2 LETS GO!

Jedi Psy

To tie into this, I just watched your Twister reaction and if you want more Bill Paxton, watch Predator 2!!!
