Top Gun: Maverick (2022) - Full Reaction

Hey guys!

Ok here is our reaction to TG:Maverick, this was the best theatre movie and experience I have had in a long time. Popcorn, sour patch and Tom Cruise is all I need ;) This movie was so HUGE, do you think it was overhyped? I don't think I do, just because it was so enjoyable to watch and the perfect amount of nostalgia from the first one. I know the in-theater reactions are not the highest quality videos ever and that the sound and video suffer greatly, however...selfishly I wanted to see this in theaters but also thought it would be a great one to react to so here it is! You're welcome to skip this one if in-theater reactions are not your cup of tea!! Thanks for understanding!

So this movie is only available for digital purchase at the moment. If you'd like to grab a copy to follow a long, you can do what I did and purchase it here (this is an affiliate link). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the physical release is on November 1st? Not sure when it will be on streaming services. Hope you guys enjoy!

Direct link in case the above player doesn't work.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022) - Full Reaction

Comments

I finally got to watch the full reaction and LOVED it!. The YT edit is good, too. Next, Casablanca full reaction..

Dana Regan

What a great movie and a great reaction. I’m glad you saw it in the theater. You’re right, Hollywood needs to take notice of this movie and give the people what they want.

Ramah Mustangs

You two are now ready to watch 'Hot Shots'

JPDotCom23

Wow! Epic reaction to a new classic film - yes Top Gun but with hard histories and deep regrets - This is great!

Terry Yelmene

A little? lol I’d say a lot of Star Wars, first with the Yoda derivative mantra “don’t think just do” vs. “do or do not, there is no try” all the way to Rooster delivering the kill shot to destroy the Death Star without his computer eye to assist him (also presumably with the force aka Goose to give him the confidence to do so). Maverick is also the embodiment of Yoda himself, the old Jedi Master

N M

Doubt it… maybe if Rooster or Hangman become the focus instead of Maverick, but it won’t be with Tom Cruise.

N M

Nope, won't throw anything. Everyone has the right to like or dislike anything and to comment on it. That is the great thing about the world, differences. What makes it special to me (since you asked)... is that it is FUN, great action shots, it has a good plot, good character development, and good acting.

Doug Fisher

In my personal and honest opinion I feel this is one of the best sequels ever made. It contained so many references to the original on so many levels and also took its own story in such a detailed and in depth way that it most certainly can stand on its own. This was masterful work from the writing, producing and directing.

Richard Shepard

In honor of Val Kilmer Tombstone should be put on Cassie's viewing calendar.

London Davis

Everytime I see the enemy pilot I think of Wash's line "Im a leaf on the wind".

Patrick Toscano

Excellent movie, great reactions.. I smiled along with you both. There were some small inconsistencies I think I noticed because I'm a retired combat pilot, and I really would have liked the Vice Admiral in the end to accept Mav and admit his greatness, but I guess you can't have everything.

Art of Free Speech

best movie of the year

Bill Maurer

one of the best movies i've seen recently. PS the warbird at the end is tom cruise's own plane N51EW

Gregory Martin

Not much to add that hasn’t been said already. Great movie! Great reaction! 👍 Bring on Mando!

Robert da Spruce

Great reaction Cassie and Carly!

Allen Bond

Loved this movie. Loved yours and Carly's reaction. Had my chance to see this in an imax theater close by, and missed it. Dang. Saw Elvis in imax, which was awesome, and never made it to see this one. Glad I saw it nevertheless. It was incredible! Everything about it!

Eric

I didn't get to see this in theatres (I know I know, but I had my reasons), but just watched it Tues. night and again Wednesday. To quote a classic, "Great gobs of goose sh*t", this is one great movie. Very excited to watch this with the both of you. Excited enough to go buy 3 tubs of Haagen Dazs for the occasion? You bet.

Erik Daniel

This ranks right up there with Saving Private Ryan in my opinion. (And I LOVE Saving Private Ryan!!) It did not at all shy away from leaning into the nostalgia. It did it with class. It was by far the best movie I have seen in decades. BY FAR!! It kept the DNA of the original in a way it seems only Tom Cruise is capable of (i.e the Mission movies). But it also allowed its characters to grow in real, tangible ways. It was just so daggum good!!!!! I was about to give up on new movies. Then this one came along and, at the very least, the summer blockbuster rode off into the sunset with a stylish bang! 😎

Jon Brown

It had to be seen in theaters. I made sure to catch it in IMAX.

Mr Trick

What a great movie and what a great theater experience, surely the best of the year so far. Besides the thrilling finale, I could not have forseen that the big highlight of the movie was to be the dogfight football team bonding scene, but I should have known. Fantastic, sonic speed reaction!

MikeLL

What is it about Top Gun that is so special? Saw it when I was 10, hated it. Tried again when I was 30 and still hated it. Throw your trash and tomatoes now lol

William Bryan

Taken over a billion at the box office without Russian or Chicom audiences.

Steve Colletti

This was much more enjoyable than the first one.

Yaisu

There are some sites that you can watch the movie already. There's one that I use each time I watch along with Cassie while on my laptop. Feel free to message me if you'd like me to pass along that information.

Damon

yeah wish i could see this with you. its was col. my copy dont arrive till Nov. 1. but i hope you enjoyed it as much as i did. i liked 3 movies this yr. Top Gun, The Batman, and Black Phone. Top Gun Maverick was really good. Glad i watched it in a huge screen. the evx experience. its not quite imax but the system is amazing. well lucky for those abled to watch it all with you.

Jimmy Reyes

Yeah, definitely no agendas or politics in TOP GUN or FIREFOX…😐

Jason Chirevas

I've read the same thing. Yeah, I don't believe any of the call signs in the movie would be something in real life. They just sound cool. Even Bob's. lol

Damon

In the summer of 1982 when I was 13, my dad took me to see the Clint Eastwood thriller Firefox, where his character Major Mitchell Gant was tasked to steal a highly advanced Soviet fighter aircraft code name "Firefox". This aircraft was capable of Mach 6, was invisible to radar, and carried weapons controlled by thought. It was a high tech thriller back then and I remember being in awe of the flight scenes. Four years later, the classic Top Gun came out and I was even more in awe at the flying and dogfight scenes. Yet those films don't even compare to the scenes in this epic conclusion to the Top Gun franchise. Cassie, your words to Hollywood there during the closing scenes of the movie were right on target: Hollywood, THIS is how you should make films. No agendas, no politics, just a damn fine story with great acting and compelling characters. I'm so glad y'all saw this on the big screen. After seeing it, I implored anyone I talked with about it to see it in the theaters. This one was definitely made for it. I've seen it twice on the big screen and now once more on the smaller screen as I joined you and Carly for this fun ride. Thanks for the smiles and great time. Next time, don't hog all the treats. :D

Damon

Penny Bengiman was the admirals daughter that he got in trouble for when mentioned in the first movie... hahaha

Brian Landers

The first movie I've wanted to see in the cinema in 5 years and it was well worth it. Captured the spirit of the original beautifully. Loved the classic music of artists like The Who and David Bowie. No political, PC or woke overtones. Just 2hrs of engaging good fun. Is it any surprise its taken over a billion dollars at the box office.

Darren Hill

I love the in theater reactions you do. Can’t wait to watch this one. Thanks for the good work you are doing.

Joshua Stormont

Saw this one three times (4x now). Twice in IMAX. I didn't like it too much! :) Great reaction, Cassie & Carly! Such a fantastic sequel. Top Gun 3 will happen!

Philip Alan

One thing that doesn’t quite make sense is how does Rooster get that Call sign? I read that Naval aviators don’t get to choose their own sign. Rather, they get it assigned to them from their peers, and it usually has something to do with a personal characteristic or embarrassing event that happened. His dad’s call sign is not something that most of his peers would know about without digging deep in his history.

N M

Got off late and stayed up till 3:30 watching...so worth it, but I might require you to send my boss a PIB pass for being late in a few hrs 😄 I heard that the CCP diverted a spy satellite to observe the mockup of the Darkstar plane from the beginning because they thought it was a real plane

Ronny Boss

Hold on…. The reaction was better than the movie itself? lol

N M

Tom Cruise is my BFF. Shame on you if you didn't watch Maverick in theaters. Scientology wins! I can't stop watching this movie. I'm like a little kid watching the same damn movie on repeat. Don't care, too good! This man (God?) is 60 ffs.

theNYRfan

Sadly, considering the state of the Academy Awards these days, it's unlikely it will win anything other than technical awards (cinematography, sound design, etc..), but if the theater going audience actually played into it, and box office turnout actually mattered, it would easily win best picture.

Brian Jones

not better than the original 😒

John Cranberry

I couldn't agree more.

Steve Colletti

And THAT is how you do nostalgia correctly while making a film that's better than the original.😏👍

Brian Jones

Carly is all of us! She's already seen it, but so excited to watch it with you. You can see her start to smile before a big moment that she knows is coming up, which makes me chuckle. This was awesome. Sometimes a highly anticipated movie can dazzle you with special effects or nostalgia, and you realize on a rewatching that the movie wasn't as good as you thought. I was really afraid that would be true for this movie. But the second and third times have made me like it even more. Really, a fantastic experience.

Robert Haynes

Overhyped movies do not sustain this kind of box office run.

Burrito Jimmy

I don't know if he's personally responsible for it, but he's certainly tolerated it and engaged in denialism about the CoS's activities.

Patrick Flanagan

She is also the voice of Spider-Man’s suit

Andy

I watched this movie twice in the movies. I preordered the movie when it came out I saw it at 11:45 pm and twice more for a total of five times. I’m not sick of it yet. It’s one of the best movies I’ve seen or ever made. Absolutely and outstanding movie and I can see a third one too.

Edward Sokoloff

Oh man Iv been waiting for this one!!! 😎

Michael Barootian

Awesome movie ,,,Saw a couple times on Dolby Atmos screen. Was better for me second viewing and so on. I did get a little Star Wars vibes too haha

Squ33ky

The Right Stuff is an absolutely wonderful film. True story based on the book by Tom Wolfe about the space program. Absolutely fantastic movie.

Just Plain Bob

Hey Cassie, if you didn't already know, Jennifer Connelly is married to Paul Bettany, who played Vision in the MCU. They have two kids. She was also in Dark City, a fantastic sci-fi/noir that's definitely worth checking out (as well as dozens of other films, of course).

Just Plain Bob

So, I take it you enjoyed Star War...I mean Maverick? I think it definitely deserves its place as the movie everyone's talking about. I think I believe his relationship with Penny more than I did with Charlie. They have the history behind them (she's the admiral's daughter he buzzed), and they go out and actually do things together. And she's not working with the military, so that complication isn't present. The scene with Mav and Ice is great. Cruise and Kilmer really get across that these are old, old friends who know they're talking for the last time. And Val really did have cancer. He couldn't even speak, they had to add his voice digitally. And could there be a more perfect way to end this? Flying an F-14 out, Maverick driving, Goose's son as his backseat. What could be better? Another movie to consider is "The Right Stuff", which starts off with the efforts to break the sound barrier.

Texas Anla'Shok

I was just going to say this I've seen the original 20plus times but my wife in the theater caught that before me. A great call back.

Scott O

So Jennifer Connelly part was mentioned on the first one by Goose. She was the Admirals daughter Penny Benjamin. Maverick went ballistic with her.

Jason Mangen

Wow. Loved the movie. Loved the reaction.

Uncle Phoenix

Perfect reaction for a perfect movie! Best movie watching experience I've had in at least the last 15 years, all 4 times I saw this in theaters!

David Crabtree

Best movie I’ve seen in a long time. It had everything and I think the public was craving this exact movie. Also underrated is Lady Gaga’s song. You hear it throughout the movie subtly. Great reaction to a GREAT movie!

Peter Guertin

Thanks for an awesome reaction! Could watch this over and over again! I'm actually in Dallas training on a Falcon 50EX jet and the entire class of pilots all met up after training last night and watched Top Gun together lol. And yes those 5th Generation fighters can really do that stuff. Here's a cool video of a U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor doing it and more 😁 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1qdlxqpCwU&t=259s&ab_channel=spencerhughes2255 Hope you don’t mind the link. Watching others getting excited about aviation stuff makes me really happy 😊

Josh Phillips

Tom Cruise is great in movies but I do think we all need to take a step back from time to time and remember he's legitimately brainwashed and has personally been responsible for having his church go after a lot of people.

aarswft

Hangman proved time and time again he'd leave his wingman behind. He's good at solo missions, but clearly can't handle teamwork.

aarswft

Think I would've gone with Hangman instead of Goose. Anyone?

nick bell

Subbed to your Patreon JUST for this reaction. Best movie experience I've had since Mission Impossible: Fallout...Also staring Tom Cruise.

Eric

Yes, It hit every emotion, I watched the first at the ripe old age of 18. I am the son of a sailor, so this in part of my DNA. Hooahh!! Fly on Maverick. BTW, I also Skydive so I have personally experienced the SUNSETs at 14 thousand feet under canopy. What a sight.

Matt Mabry

It was not selfish at all you wanted to see this in theater, all the work you put into this channel by all means Cassie. You watch as many movies in theaters you want. It’ll be the weekend before I’ll be able to watch but The smile on your face the first five minutes is all I needed to see to know this was going to be a good reaction. Glad you got to see it in theaters.

Steven Ashford

Probably the only movie that I teared up more than Cassie

John Drake

I'm a 3D artist and there's not a lot of CGI in those flight sequences. I'm curious why you thought there was. Most of those scenes are practically shot. The actors were really flown by professionals Navy men and women. Here's a video breakdown how it was done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMbBh2CxUOw

Jyn Jilly

The original is still number one to me and holds a special place in my heart for various reasons. I certainly enjoyed seeing this in theaters and this is a movie that needs to be seen in that way since it just adds to the experience. With that being said, I do think it is a bit overhyped, and I think if this were released pre-pandemic, it wouldn’t have done as well. It would have made a pretty good profit, but not like this. I’m a bit harsher on this movie since I’m a big aviation fan, so the fact that a lot of it is CGI, more than I thought there would be, although understandable considering the circumstance's, is a bit of a let down. The jet used in the original is also much more of a star then the jets used in this one. I could go on and on, but overall, I had fun and I’m glad it did so well and people had an enjoyable time again because of it.

Andrew Hogan

Great movie!! Even better reaction!

Jayson Phillips

Tom Cruise actually owns that P-51 he’s flying in the movie. As an aviation geek, I am beyond jealous. 😀 Lockheed-Martin’s Skunkworks division also had direct involvement in the making of the dark star mock-up. I give Crusie a lot of credit for the work he puts into his movies to make the shots as practical as possible with minimal green screen/CGI (like getting his type rating for the helicopter to be able to do the aerobatics in Mission Impossible and actually strapping himself to the outside of the cargo plane during takeoff).

Andy

will have to wait until next week to check this out.. can't wait!!

Andrew Rose

I'm sure you've learned since filming this but if not, when they refer to Mach something, it's a magnitude of the speed of sound. Mach 10 means he's going 10 times the speed of sound, or 7672 mph

aarswft

yes, but please don't buy it if you weren't going to anyway!

Cassie

So I saw this movie by myself in theaters. I want to thank some of the members on discord who encouraged me to see it even though I had reservations of going alone. Glad I listened to them as I would’ve missed out on a great experience.

James1035

Tom Cruise should get a special award this year for this film which not only made tons of money but also brought people back to the theatres. Hope he gets recognized at the Oscars.

N M

Couldn’t agree more with you. This was one of the best movie experiences I’ve had in a long time. The movie was great. It’s a movie that had to be seen in theaters so I’m happy you went and saw it there instead of waiting.

James1035

Wasn't going to buy the movie yet (it'll eventually come down in price), but maybe now I'll have too. Will you make commission for the sale if I do? lol

Bryan Fritchie

Unfortunately I didn't, just a regular theatre! That would have been great though!

Cassie

this is a great idea!!

Cassie

Well, I guess it's time for me to finally bite the bullet and watch a movie which I've actively avoided because of the amount of holes I could see in the previews.

Chris Mick

Sure the video and audio quality suffers a little for your in theater reactions, but this is definitely a movie you want to see on the big screen! So I’m happy you didn’t deprive yourself of that Cassie. Looking forward to watching your reaction!

Robert da Spruce

If you guys get a chance , do a drive thru movie reaction , of any movies .

My Fat Butt

I haven’t had an amazing experience at the theater watching a movie in a long time like I did watching Top Gun: Maverick. The entire third act had me sitting on the edge of my seat. This film was meant to be seen on the big screen. I’m definitely getting the 4K release when it comes out on November 1st.

Tim Raths

I saw this in the theater and loved it. Looking forward to watching again.

Johnny

I just watched this myself this evening! Can't wait now to see what you thought! :)

Gary B

Yes, physical release is November 1. Did you see it in an IMAX, Cassie?
