Mission Impossible III (2006) - Full Reaction

Hey guys!! This one had us on the edge of the bed the entire time! Tom is just the best person for this role, no one can replace him. Also this love interest better be long term.... Also, how do we go the whole movie and not find out what the rabbit foot is?? Anyway, hope you enjoy the reaction and have a great weekend!

*The original video had no sound in some parts when it was posted. This is a scheduled update and the new video should be working by the time you see this. Thanks for your patience!

Mission Impossible III (2006) - Full Reaction

Comments

Hey Cassie, I think the version of MI3 with the audio missing in parts is still the version uploaded on YouTube.

rhaegar

Hey Larry! Thanks for letting me know. It was fixed, but we are switching everything over to YT and it looks like the wrong version was uploaded. Working on it now!

Cassie

Did we ever get an audio fix? Because every place I try to download from is missing audio from around 1:00:00 to 1:50:00, still.

Larry Darrell

It took a few films for the Mission: Impossible franchise to find itself and this was it. It only gets better and better and better from here girls. Tom Cruise is probably the last great old school action star from his generation that is still entertaining the fans and giving us what he knows we like. This is the film that you really start to love Ethan as not just a secret agent but a person and you want him to be happy for the next few films. I can't wait to see you girls (and I hope y'all will continue to do these films together) have fun with the next film Ghost Protocol, its probably my favorite one from here on out.

Cruise's acting in the whole countdown scene is actually really excellent. (I feel he doesn't get enough credit for his acting in general, probably because his personal life is a circus.) He goes through a whole gamut of emotions in that countdown, including when he starts trying to misdirect, and claim the Rabbit's Food is in Paris. But Cruise adds a subtle unconvincing tone to indicate to the audience that Ethan is really grasping at straws.

WastedPo

HIs first movie. It was a risk by Cruise to choose him. Paid off nicely.

Jon Hoover

That's confusing to me. Because this one was my favorite the second it was released. I think it's perfect, and I've never seen action shots like on the bridge.

Jon Hoover

The plane? The countdown scene is better. "Seven! Seven!"

Jon Hoover

Not only does PSH does a great job of playing Owen but he also played a great Ethan hunt too. Even bound on the plane he felt in control the whole time x

jimmy2k4o .

Philip Seymour Hoffman was the greatest Mi villain his scene on the plane is chilling. He the only actor in the Mi series I feels steals the show from Tom.

jimmy2k4o .

Ahhh my bad. I’m just so use to seeing Tom running everywhere in every movie lol

brooke atkins

I liked MI:2 when it came out, it was very of its time. John Woo was big in Hollywood off the back of Face Off (which is a film I’m desperate for you to watch), and it was a big big hit back then. I haven’t seen it for a few years and I slipped the reaction because I over dosed on it in the early 00’s. 3 was the end of the old era and the start of a new era of MI movies. It set the franchise on its path to blockbuster status!

Biggman83

I actually was waiting for Cassie/Carley to comment on the scene at the end. It was almost like Abrams threw that scene in specifically for people to comment on (similar to the sequence in MI6). But yeah, sadly, nothing.

WastedPo

Brooke, he was talking about that ultimate running scene when he was running toward the building his wife was being held in. That was one long take of him running full speed.

Johnny

Actually she did. Cassie said during the parking lot scene this is his running scene lol

brooke atkins

Very disappointed in you two. In the previous Mission Impossible, you made mention how Tom Cruise runs in every movie (which is a like a running joke now, no pun intended) and in this movie, they specifically had a scene of him doing just that in a long uninterrupted take and you didn’t say ANYTHING 🤣

Julian San

Good movie. It was nice to watch it again. It had been awhile. I am glad you Ladies liked it.

Rick Williams

Great movie!

TommyJ.

nice to relive these Mission Impossible movies with fresh eyes - thanks

JarHead0351

glad you liked my favorite Mission: Impossible movie. JJ Abrams, straight off of Alias, heart-punched this franchise back to life!

Nathan

I used to think this one was my least favorite out of all the others, but slowly it's creeped up to be top 3 over the years

Sahitya

Interesting. I live near Fontana.

Philip Alan

I disagree with all the commenters saying things like "the first 2-3 MISSION movies are s**t" or "this point on is when the movies are actually good" (I still think the first one is the best), but I will admit that it isn't until about MISSION 4 (GHOST PROTOCOL) that this franchise stops being an imitation of something else (the original TV show, paranoid 70s conspiracy flicks, French heist films, Japanese action movies, Hitchcock suspense thrillers, an ALIAS and/or James Bond carbon copy, etc) and turns into entirely it's own thing. This is also where the stuntwork becomes so consistently spectacular that it is literally breathtaking. If you thought you were on a roller coaster ride before, just wait. You ain't seen nothing yet.

Stick Figure Studios

So…I’ve noticed Carly goes on a lot of “business trips”. Plus, she’s watching a lot of Alias lately. Hmm…..Totally a spy! 😂 Great reactions guys! I really enjoyed that! If you guys like Michelle Monaghan, you might want to check out Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It stars Michelle alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer.

Robert da Spruce

The main takeaway, of course, is that Carly would be a great spy!

Alex Villarreal

When I first saw this I figured there would be at least one torture scene, because JJ Abrams has some sort of weird torture fetish.

Johnny

JJ Abrams created the tv series Felicity which formed a working relationship with Keri Russel. Jennifer Garner did a guest spot on Felicity which helped her land the big time role on his next show Alias.

Shawn Kildal

You two are such sweethearts and so much fun. You deserve your Patreon success

Mark Harrell

Here we go again! :) Much much better than the last MI..yes on keeping Julia on the team⭐⭐⭐

Celeste McAllister

This one completely restored my faith in the franchise after MI2. "Weird" is the best semi-complementary word I can use to describe that lol while MI3 is more of a return to form. I think the consensus is that the rest of the franchise improves with each entry and I'd agree.

LMrcs

I think your reaction was the same as mine when it first came out. First movie was cool for the spy stuff, second for the action (if a bit over-stylized), but this one really dialed it in by launching off the starting block with high personal stakes which made me so much more invested.

tiny baby kitty man

Agree!!! Magnolia is an incredible film with a huge cast and one of Tom cruises best performances. Add that one to your list Cassie!! Pronto!! Lol 😝

brooke atkins

Alll the MI movies get better now since benji joins the team! It’s all uphill from here!!

Audrey

Just like the Jaws franchise.

Pickupthepieces76

Mission impossible is one of those rare franchise were the movies get better as they come out.

Alex Gorell

I can't wait to see their reaction to Ghost Protocol. That one is my favorite of the series.

Tim Raths

I’m on pins and needles waiting for Cassie’s reaction to the good MI movies (4,5 and 6). This one is just okay.

Joe M

they filmed the first action scene at my job in Fontana , southern California .at a steel mill

zynjams

As of this installment, we now know Cassie is watching the Mission: Impossible series for entertainment. Carly is watching them for research.

Jason Chirevas

I mostly liked this movie. I think watching it at the time though felt more like an episode of ALIAS which JJ was doing at the time.

Philip Davetas

Hey Cassie, I think Carly is right and that you would really like Alias. Each episode is a “mission” with Jennifer Garner in different costumes plus a love interest . If you reacted to that show, I would definitely watch with you. Are you able to turn the audio up on your reactions? When I watch my copy, I have to put the volume up on your reaction as high as I can, but I still have trouble hearing you and if I wear my ear buds to listen to your reaction, I have to turn the volume up on my copy so it’s really, really loud.

Tara

He was also in the Hunger Games trilogy

Tara

A word you're going to see pop up in a lot of discourse surrounding this genre (action / suspense / thriller / spy) is "MacGuffin." It's a term created by Hitchcock to refer to some object or device (or sometimes even a person) that serves to set and keep the plot in motion despite usually lacking intrinsic importance. It's the thing that everybody wants and is willing to kill for. Every Indiana Jones adventure has a MacGuffin (the ark of the covenant, the Holy Grail, etc) and the previous two MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE films had one (the NOC list in 1 and the virus Bolerophon in 2). Sometimes the film won't even tell you what it is (like in this one with the rabbit's foot) because, ultimately, it doesn't matter. It's rarely ever actually important to the story. It's a dramatic device, a narrative trope, a function of the plot. Nothing more. Still, some people get annoyed not knowing. I don't, but I once saw an excellent spy movie in the theater (I won't say which one because I actually think you should watch it at some point), but the plot involved all the characters trying to get a briefcase. What was in the case was never revealed (and no, I'm not talking about PULP FICTION), but when the end credits started, one guy in the back row stood up and (no kidding) shouted "WHAT THE F*** WAS IN THE CASE?!!"

Stick Figure Studios

What is the Rabbit's Foot? The official answer? Just another one of J.J. Abrams Mystery Boxes. There you go. You're welcome. The Mission: Impossible series. Where you can watch Tom Cruise age from about 35 to 60. And still look basically the same. My favorite Cassie line from the reaction: "You know those spontaneous traffic conventions."

MikeLL

"That was the craziest thing I've ever seen." Oh, it gets even crazier in this series. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

He's done a lot of great movies in his career, and you still have many to see, but seeing Philip Seymour Hoffman in 1) Almost Famous, 2) The Big Lebowski, and 3) Mission: Impossible III is a pretty incredible illustration of his range.

Tyler Foster

The MI series doesn't let up from here, I can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of them :)

Patrick Egan

Duct tape- the go to thing for every damsel in distress scene lol

William Bryan

Pleasant surprise to wake up to! I’m looking forward to watching this one tonight!

Robert da Spruce

+1 for Knight and Day! I think the ladies would enjoy it!

Robert da Spruce

I love that you're doing this series, and having you two together is always a lot of fun. But in the future, could you somehow come up with a way for both of you to have a complete set of earphones? The thought that you're each missing out on half of the sound mix irrationally bothers me.

WastedPo

I was disappointed at how little Philip Seymour Hoffman had to do in this movie. He's the only reason I watched it. In two other movies Cassie's watched recently--In The Line of Fire and Speed--the bad guy gets a back story and all sorts of screen time.

Carol_White

This really is where the Mission Impossible series starts for me. The first two were so inconsistent in tone, you could tell that there wasn't a real plan for the series. I suppose it could've ended right there, since I assume the public wasn't clamoring for more at that point. But thankfully they pressed on. I think the fact that JJ Abrams came on board as producer (and director of this one) for the remainder of the series really helped them to nail down a consistent vision.

WastedPo

This film is responsible for taking the series into the stratosphere because no one would let Tom Cruise do the Shanghai stunt, so he created his own production company to allow himself to do the stunts and they were the ones who did the films going forward.

aarswft

She’ll love Thomas Crown Affair. It’s been recommended a bunch so I’m sure she’ll get to it.

Steven Ashford

You’d love Knight and Day with Cruise and Cameron Diaz. It’s exactly what you’d want in a spy film.

Andrew Hogan

This is most people's favorite. You watched a different movie than everyone else lol

aarswft

just the first and last season haha it was too dark for me

Cassie

"We are going in pretty blind" Pretty blind is still pretty :D

Dioskur

You have to download it again, there was something wrong with the video that got fixed about an hour and a half later.

Planner

Is anyone else not getting the audio from them half the time?

Eric Wallace

im glad you both enjoyed, im about to fire it up and watch.........but without giving anything away 4, 5, and 6 all are great, the best 3 and get better with each, and yes the romance stays to a point, you ladies will be fine with that, but enjoy the next 3 are sensational..........do bourne trilogy, Craig bond series.......................pierce Brosnan Thomas crown affair 1999, and Matthew McConaughey u571.............all with carly would be perfect

christopher b swanson

I will watch again tomorrow night now I have gone to bed.

Brian McGovern

Well that’s my Sunday evening film sorted!

Biggman83

As you guys have enjoyed Tom Cruise and Philip Seymour Hoffman in a few movies now, I hope you'll check out Magnolia (1999). It's arguably the best film both actors have been in.

Henry Graham

Not just JJ. A lot of movies have Maguffins in them. I am not a big fan off JJ either. He tries to be respectful to franchises, but it ends up hurting them. I think this is the second weakest of the franchise as it feels a little too much like TV. Maybe I am just too familiar with him being primarily TV centric.

Brian McGovern

You don't find out because jj abrams doesn't care about answering his mysteries, he uses them as a vehicle to his story

Eric Wallace

same

Philip Alan

Finally, the not-shit MIs start.

warcrimes

Cassie you've seen Breaking Bad? You recognized Aaron Paul as Jessie Why did that surprised me haha I figured that show was not your cup of tea

Jyn Jilly

Yeah there's some sound issues for me too

Jyn Jilly

Edit: Looks like it's working now with no sound cuts. Sound cuts out at 00:21:15, it comes back at 00:23:58. And it's gone again from 00:58:02 to 01:53:26 :( Hopefully Cassie can get it fixed...

Planner

Does anyone else have an issue with the sound? When I view the video the commentary is silent between 00:55:50 - 01:51:20 (hours:minutes:seconds) of the film. So basically half the film. Maybe it’s just a technical issue on my part. EDIT: It seems (for me at least) that this issue only occurs when watching the video on Patreon - if you instead click ”Direct link in case the above player doesn’t work” below the player the video seems to have sound throughout (I’ve only scrolled through it though).

Tostos

I would say only 1 and 3 are worth watching in the series. 3 is as good as it is because of Philip Seymour Hoffman

GamerGal8684

excellent I'm excited to watch it. also you should go to stampede sometime this week.

ExploreWinnipeg

If you thought this one was crazy, you are in for a wild ride with the next three.

Tim Raths

I think this is the second worse MI movie in the series. That is saying something. I am so looking forward for you ladies to see what goes down in the next 2. It will blow your socks off.

Brian McGovern

Yes! I was thinking Obi-Wan would be next so I assumed this would come during the week. So excited to rewatch this one with you guys! Also I think now you see why people say MI:2 is the worst. 2 is not terrible but start with 3, the franchise became incredible.
