Patriot Games (1992) - Full Reaction

Here is the reaction to Patriot Games. I recorded this the day after the Ulvade tragedy so I address that in the beginning, I felt like I had to let you guys in on how I was feeling when watching this and that it was of course was on my heart and mind.

If you remember I pulled "Clear and Present Danger" from the pillowcase during the live and I felt it my duty to watch this one first. It was so great seeing HF again as such a cute family man and I think suspense films are up there in my top favorite genre. Now I can't wait to watch the next one.

1;49;40 Harrison Ford, “GET OFF MY BOAT!!!!!” :)

Carol Rocha

Bless your heart. Just now watching this with you. That was a horrible thing to hear. Loving you and your channel.

Carol Rocha

I'm a new subscriber and had to watch your reaction to this. I'm sad you haven't continued on with these movies. The next one is really good as well. But I have plently of other movies to watch along with you. Thanks for making such great content!

Steve kephart

You are all heart. Bless you for your sympathies

Steve Salazar

Sum of All Fears is decent if heavily flawed but I could just not stomach Shadow Recruit. James Cromwell and Morgan Freeman really help, and Affleck is good enough.

Pirateman

I've come to see Baldwin as the analyst Ryan whereas Ford is the family man Ryan. And Nathan Fillion is Minnesota Ryan.

Love this movie. I'm sure you've seen the bad guy Sean Bean in Lord of the Rings and maybe Game of Thrones?

Wendy

Great reaction as always Cassie. I always felt Harrison Ford was a bit too old for the role (Jack Ryan is supposed to be early 30's in Patriot Games), but he pulls it off just fine. Judging just by the films, I'd still say Hunt for Red October is my favorite, but as far as the Harrison Ford stint as Jack Ryan goes, it would be Clear and Present Danger. Look forward to your reaction to it in the future. Take care.

Brian Jones

Good call. This was the better choice

Shawn Kildal

I saved this to watch on Memorial Day

Jason Dolan

If you’re enjoying Mr. Ford so much, especially as the family man bent on protecting his family against all odds, you need to check out Air Force One, after you watch Clear and Present Danger. And yes, this is the same Jack Ryan that did the submarine adventure, they just recast him with Harrison Ford, brilliant move! Side note: Cassie watching a thrilling movie with the wind blowing in her hair, nice touch 😉 And to go along with the theme of Jack Ryan becoming a knight in this movie, might I suggest we crown our Popcorn Princess?

Jon Brown

Some of us watch movies cause we love films, some watch movies to be entertained, and some watch movies as an escape from reality. The reality is those victims will never see a movie again. They will never listen to a song again. These are just little things that we take for granted. Tomorrow is never promised. Always cherish and appreciate life.

Great movie…big fan of Harrison Ford as well. I relate to this one a little more than other movies because of the IRA connection. My late mom was born and raised in Northern Ireland and she took my younger sister and I home for a month long visit with my grandfather when I was in my mid teens. This was back when the IRA was still quite active and it was a little intimidating for my sis and I, seeing heavily armed soldiers on the streets, getting searched/patted down at the airport and even just entering department stores….and one day, minutes after having just left downtown Belfast, a huge bomb went off in front of the courthouse, shattering windows for many blocks in every direction and needless to say scaring the crap out of us. Otherwise, it was an excellent and memorable trip. it’s such a beautiful country. I’m thankful the violence is no longer an issue, and I’m going to be getting my Irish passport soon, as I found out I’m automatically a citizen by decent…so once again, thanks mom. And lol yeah, great ending…you find out very quickly in the next one what it was 🙂

Andrew

here is a little useless info - Harrison Ford's neighbor hangs out with him when they are both in town - his next-door neighbor is........Jimmy Buffet

JarHead0351

Thanks for being you, for being comfortable sharing your feelings, and for helping us escape for a little bit. Between Buffalo and Texas, we need it. Blessings to you and your family.

Keith Jones

I agree! Cassie watch all the rom coms you want, you need feel good movies for a bit.

Obie Brown

Hey, Cass. Love the reaction to a film I have always liked. Having said that, I am sure we would all be OK if you need to react to some fun or rom-com type movies for a while. You are a trooper as always but sometimes you just need a "happy place".

Doug Fisher

Not really the place for the politics. But just so your rhetoric is not spread... You do realize that 95% of mass shootings happen in GUN FREE ZONES, right?! There is a reason for that. You realize that the only thing that has stopped these shooters is a law-abiding citizen with a gun, right?! You also realize that guns prevent way more in terms of serious crimes (murder, rape, etc.) than they are used for in murder (1.7 million preventions in the U.S.A. last year alone)?! Stop blaming an object and focus on the reason for the incident. I am sure you also know that mass attacks happen without "guns" also. As far as gun lobbies... they are dwarfed by things such as Big Pharma lobbies... by ALOT... so I would be more worried about that, then legal gun ownership.

Doug Fisher

Cassie, you need to react to a comedy or two. You've watched some fairly dark (for you) films lately. In the meantime, ignore the yelling mother and have a laugh at the kid:

This is the most disrespectful move in baseball history 🤣 pic.twitter.com/yZf9e7oKHS
— Overtime (@overtime) May 27, 2022

Brent Petty

Watching this one first after pulling "Clear and Present Danger" out was definitely a good call, since "Patriot Games" was the next in this series of movies ("The Hunt For Red October" being the first).

Bammer

Maybe that's because terrorists are no more human than a potato..

Celeste McAllister

I find news in general depressing these days but children and teachers being murdered at school? It's still about the worst news you can hear, unfathomably awful.

Jay

Cassie, you have such a huge and kind heart, please don’t ever feel that you need to apologize for expressing your feelings. What happened in Texas is a tragedy a since you have little ones, it’s completely understandable. The actor who was the main bad guy was also Boromir from LOTR, he was the only other human besides Aragorn, but he died early in the trilogy. He is well known for playing Ned Stark on Game of Thrones. The actor who played Paddy O’Neil, the one who gave Jack the gift with the information on the woman, was Dumbledore in the first 2 Harry Potter movies before he passed away. I love how engrossed you get with the gasps and “oh my gosh!” during the tense scenes. I think I might be immune because l find that I don’t do that anymore. I wish I could get that quality back. Don’t ever lose that Cassie! Since you like the spy/suspense/CIA genre, I’m gonna recommend another show that you might like, Alias with Jennifer Garner. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but she plays a CIA agent and she kicks a$$! 🍿

Tara

I'm with Cassie...all those satellite shots of the terrorists looked like potatoes.

Anthony Perez

Tyler, glad you got it figured out, there have been numerous Vimeo issues recently, we have some workarounds over on the discord channel, if you're interested in joining the conversations over there. The pinned FAQ post on this Patreon channel has a how-to for connected to discord. -jon

We must protect our children ourselves the powers that be can't be depended on to do this, let the memories of those beautiful children taken from us by a sick monster be honored, never forgotten.I look at my own children as I type this down with tears in my eyes...Great film to watch with one of the best ensemble casts of the 90's..

Celeste McAllister

Great reaction, Cassie...I had a little fear as you talked about damaged little ones how you were going to do during this one. Good job though. If you are going to dive deeper into Jack Ryan, just know that the movie release order and the novel release order are all mixed up chronologically in the story. Patriot Games was before he started working at the CIA, as you can probably figure out now. Red October is next, then Clear and Present Danger, then Sum of All Fears. Tom Clancy's books are HUGE, and usually delve into many facets of the story, including background and political information. Red October, as mainly a technology based thriller, had quite a lot of political stuff in it as well. Patriot games, with less technology, delved pretty deep into IRA, RUC, Sinn Fein and The Troubles in general. As you can imagine, the movies leave a LOT of that out, as it isn't really necessary to the plot moving forward, and to be honest even in the books its a little dry, but it is still quite interesting. He also goes into a lot of Jack's history and other sub plots that are really quite good.

Damon Corrigan

Love you Cassie. So sorry you just happened to watch THIS movie with what happens…it is a great movie and yes, you needed to see or before the next one

Ryan

My friends 2 little cousins were killed in Uvalde. I just cant understand how someone could be so cruel to innocent children.

Patrick Toscano

I agree!HF plays the roll so much better.

Steven Ashford

Cassie, you are our friend. Totally understandable for your response at the beginning, I want you to share with us, that’s what friends do. This was a great movie and of course great reaction, but this one is actually my least favorite of the series. HFRO, and C&PD are tied for me. Completely different settings. You’ll understand when you watch the next one. I guess if I was forced to pick one it would be C&PD because I think HF plays the roll better of field guy/analysts better than Baldwin. Can’t wait for the next one. Have a great Holiday weekend!!

Steven Ashford

One of the best things about Cassie is how much empathy she has, she cares so much for others and we need more of that in this world.

Obie Brown

Alex Gorell

another GREAT reaction to another great movie, Cassie. Just wanted to try and clarify a LITTLE about the political part of it: The Irish Republican Army is a paramilitary group that has existed in various forms for 100 years. Their goal has been to expel british forces from all of ireland. There have been several splinter groups and the fictional one that Sean and Kevin are a part of is called the Ulster Liberation Army. Jack was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order for his actions in saving Sir Holmes from the initial attack.

David Bennett

Awesome! Looking forward to it

Joshua Stormont

Awesome! Can't wait to watch this one later today

Michael Lynch

Don't watch Without Remorse, it's an abomination. My favorite of the books and I can't even begin to explain how bad an adaptation the movie is

Andrew Hansen

I loved Tom Clancy growing up. Read his first 5 or 6 books ( Red Storm Rising was my favorite. Awesome WWIII imagining) But the movies all fell way short. Hunt for Red October was probably the best adaptation. Patriot Games was the next best. But the drop off was very noticeable as a fan of the novels. Patriot Games wasn't terrible. Seen it several times. They ruined the ending but overall, not bad. Clear and Present Danger and Sum of All Fears were train wrecks that never should've Been made.

nick bell

"Best analyst the FBI ever had!" You corrected yourself right away, but it gave me a laugh. Honestly, the most authentic moment in the history of spy thrillers occurs in this movie - when Marty asks Ryan if he knows how big a deal it is to re-task a LEO bird. I've loved this movie ever since I first saw that scene and the moments where Ryan is sitting with his feet up, reading, reading, reading. That's the CIA.

Les Bird

Cassie was talking about Harrison Ford's acting style; I think that what endears us to him is the true sense of vulnerability he brings to his each of his characters. The Fugitive and Presumed Innocent stick out to me as prime examples of that. Is it me or is Samuel L. Jackson in almost every movie for the last 30 years?

Shawn Kildal

I think The Hunt for Red October was one of the first full reactions I watched on this channel and I loved it so I am so glad to see you continue the series.. Wonderful, heartfelt reaction as always Cassie, thank you! You're not alone in how you feel about what is going on in Texas, thank you for sharing that as well.

Andrew Rose

Thanks Cassie for being you. It's hard sometimes to be a empathetic, genuinely good person in this world anymore, but because you a genuine about emotions we love see you're reactions. Please give us your insights to things in this world you want to talk about. We will always be there to listen. Thanks for doing this reaction too. Like most Jack Ryan books and movies so it was a joy. Added part of comment.... Maybe you could consider watching Sum of All Fears and Shadow Recruit. Not Harrison Ford anymore but I think you'd enjoy them.

David Freese

Did you recognize the original Dumbledore/English Bob from Unforgiven/the guy that helped the count of Monte Cristo escape the prison?

Goony71

Just started watching. Good call, I think, addressing the tragedy first. We watch for you, Cassie, not just for the movies. We watch for the connection. If you pretended to watch movies in a vacuum, unaffected by world events, that might compromise the authenticity we value your channel for. I've always noticed your art comes from a place of empathy, and it's hard not to feel strongly about such a dark event, especially for a mother. We stand with you.

Ben Livingstone

...and Boromir!

Agrippa

That's Sean Bean. The terrorist in the car. You might know him better as Ned Stark from Game of Thrones.

Matt Skeens

Cassie, one thing that I want you to know is that it makes my heart so happy to know truly kind people like you exist in the world.

Philip G.

What happened to the direct Vimeo link? Not a huge deal but something I was used to. Edit: Oh wait you can click on the video title in the upper left and get there.

tiny baby kitty man

Cassie, this is one of my favorite movies. I'm so happy that you've watched it. While I like Alec Baldwin in "Hunt for Red October", HF was always the Jack Ryan in my head as I read all of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan books. One of my favorite books of all time is "The Sum of All Fears". If you like the Ben Affleck movie by the same name in 2002, you'll love the book (that is much, much better, but that is to be expected when Hollywood compresses an almost 800-page book into a 2-hour movie) I'm interested to see your reaction to your second and third Tom Clancy movie.

Kevin

Hug your littles, Cassie. Thank you for that intro! Thank you for continuing your movie reaction journey.
