Okay.

I think you are projecting your feelings on to my descriptors. Sure, morality and artistic merit is subjective, though general societal subjective norms are established, or else the world burns. I don't "hate" anyone or anything. I do however, have a serious issue with anyone or any entity going after children. I guess you don't feel that grooming children is morally reprehensible then. That is fine, more and more people feel as you do these days, sadly. If you can point out any modern (last 5 years) DC or Marvel comic run that has artistic merit and/or good writing, I will gladly change my stance, though I believe I will be waiting a very long time. There is a reason their sales are in the tank and are on the verge of collapse. Just because one draws a conclusion from available evidence it does not equate to a "simplistic view" or an "unrealistic" one. I find it interesting that you would substitute your definition of "trash" for mine. Mine came from Merriam-Webster Section 1b(1). I suspect a little conformation bias at work here. Also interesting that yours was more absolute and "simplistic" where mine was more nuanced. You are also putting words in my mouth and stating conclusions I have never made. I have never been "absolute" about anything. If you remember I stated there was some MCU movies I liked. I said corporations are antithetical to creativity, which is true in all fields not just entertainment. This does not preclude something positive or creative coming from a corporation. It just tends to be by accident, an aberration. I take everything on a case by case basis. This has provided me the evidence to draw the conclusion I have. It has also allowed me to see the gimmicks that corporations use to subdue and bamboozle their customers, in this instance audiences. Ask yourself this, how often do you reference modern cinema for quotes and scenes? Now compare that to older cinema. Most people leave a modern movies saying, "WOW, that was amazing", but really have no idea why, except for some splashy SPX, and pretty much forget most of the movie a short time later, or come to realize that the movie was not as good as they thought (which you did in this case). Whereas a trilogy like "Lord of the Rings" I can remember ever scene, I can quote 40+ year old movies. Why do you think that is?! Also don't confuse DC and Marvel comics with the MCU and DCU. I like many of Snyder's work, though he could use a good editor to tighten up his movies, and change out 80% of his slow motion scenes. Again, I don't write off anything, in fact I WANT good movies, I just know the chances of that coming from Feige or Kennedy are very, very slim. At best, you might get something mediocre, but the vast majority ranges from inferior to worthless... which fits my descriptor of "trash".

Doug Fisher

I guess that perspective still seems to lack nuance to me and those adjectives still strike me as more emotive in nature than objective (as in they don't really say as much about the object they are describing as they say about the intense negative feelings of the individual using them).. When someone says X is "evil" or "trash," all that usually tells me is this person really, REALLY hates X. Again, if that's one's opinion, that's fine. People are allowed to feel that way, but I personally have a more conflicted, less simplistic view of Disney, Marvel and DC (as I think reality is just usually more complex than that). I don't believe, for example, that *everything* they do is "trash" (Definition: "Disposable garbage without any artistic merit whatsoever"). I don't think that absolutely nothing positive or creative can't come from them (or from any corporation necessarily). I tend to take things on more of a case-by-case basis instead. I don't automatically write off a film or series just because it was produced by Kevin Feige, Kathleen Kennedy or Zack Snyder. That's just not how I see it.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, how else would you describe a company (Disney) that supports and fosters grooming children other than "evil" (Definition: "morally reprehensible")? Both Marvel comics (and DC for that matter) are now "trash" (Definition: "inferior or worthless writing or artistic matter"), especially given their sales numbers. So both adjectives are descriptors, not emotive. Corporations are antithetical to creativity, which is one of the many reasons their products have now become "trash". The other main reason is the pushing of propaganda, another killer of creativity.

Doug Fisher

I just find it rare that adjectives like "evil" and "trash" (or "garbage," "crap," etc) are entirely accurate when used to refer to something, let alone a large group of things. They tend to strike me as more emotive than descriptive.

Stick Figure Studios

In what way?

Doug Fisher

I think that's painting with too broad a brush myself, but if that's your opinion, that's fine. You're entitled to it.

Stick Figure Studios

I loved Marvel in the beginning. "Ironman" was a great film. GoTG, great film. Disney however is an evil company that just ruins IP's. Marvel Comics are trash now because of them. Marvel Movies started and continued to slide in relation to the control Feige had over it. The more control he gained the worse the films became.

Doug Fisher

Disliking Marvel and Disney does not necessarily make one a snob, but I have known many snobs who dislike Marvel and Disney indiscriminately.

Stick Figure Studios

@Michael I completely agree in terms of levels in regards to "Loki". A Hawkeye TV show had a lot of potential for a B character but then again we are talking modern day Hollywood and Disney here so I didn't hold out much hope to begin with.

Doug Fisher

@Stick Just to clarify... are you calling me a snob? How does disliking modern Disney and Disney MCU make me a "snob? Having taste does not make this so.

Doug Fisher

Sorry to come late to the party with this comment, but if you ladies like Scarlet in this movie...you would probably LOVE her in 'Lucy!' 😁 She is a TOTAL BAD ASS in that one. 👍🏻

'Pappy' Johnston

Shang-Chi is awesome, but I'd recommend you watch "Loki" first...

Chris Davis

P.S. That's vision on the part of the filmmaker I'm talking about... not the Paul Bettany character (though there's room for him too).

Stick Figure Studios

And I'm not one of those snobs who dislikes Marvel or Disney. Not at all. It's just starting to feel like so much of the MCU product is just so... typical and mechanical in nature. They have a formula and they stick to it. It seems to work in the sense that a lot people like it and it makes a ton of money, but even within that formula, I feel like there's room for quality and personality and vision.

Stick Figure Studios

Aka The Complete Emasculation of Clint Barton. Although, to be fair, it does not rise to the level of the complete and utter Emasculation of Loki. I'd hoped the show would have explored Barton's descent into Punisher-esque, grief-driven badassery after his family were blipped. The final episode could have ended with Natasha giving him hope in the rain. Instead we get quack quack duck trot "Olympic athlete" Kate Bishop.

Michael Threapleton

You mean the "Kate Bishop Show"?! That is a terrible show and a nut punch to Hawkeye!

Doug Fisher

@Stick, I also liked the Black Widow character at the start of the MCU. She definitely deserved her own good, stand alone movie (which this was not), and WAAAAAAYYYYY before now. She should have had it before "Captain Marvel" and before "Infinity". The main problem is Disney, and that they are a corporation. The action sequences in their films are already shot before the director walks on set for the first time and then they are left to try and fill in the spaces with bad scripts from terrible inexperienced writers. Also, like most corporations they are not creative, so if something works once they mass produce it... hence the GotG humor slapped into everything. Hell, they even put it in "The Last Jedi". This is a bad movie for Normies, it is CRINGE for people who are actual comic book fans. All they (Disney / Hollywood) do is jingle keys and throw in fan service... the sad part many people still fall for it.

Doug Fisher

now you need to watch hawkeye!

Ulf Jerlström

@Cole Jennett They said at the beginning of the video that Captain Marvel was their least favorite MCU movie. And I know a bunch of females that also hate that movie. So, yes.

Bryan Fritchie

delete this spoiler dude

warcrimes

To some females, yes! When I was growing up a badass female was just someone who could handle themselves without the plot smacking you over the head with it or making them overly sexualized. The era of Samantha Carter will be missed!

Amy Hanson

Yep, I definitely feel like I watched a different movie. I didn’t like that she landed on her feet when she fell off the building, and the fight while falling was a little much, but otherwise I was more then satisfied. I can appreciate your opinion though.

Cole Jennett

I think I'm starting to grow tired of this kind of loose, hip, semi-improvisational snark that passes for humor in so many Marvel movies (as if every film feels now like it has to be GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY; everyone is a wise ass). The very capable cast of actors definitely do the best they can committing to the to the emotional authenticity of the characters, but their dialogue itself is (for the most part) wholly unremarkable and unoriginal -- almost like it was written by a Hollywood screenwriting computer program than an actual human being -- with all the elegance, intelligence and subtlety of a sledgehammer (at one point I counted at least three recycled cliches in a span of 30 seconds: "I always found it best not to look into the past," "How did you keep your heart?" "Pain only makes us stronger," etc). I am not by any means a jaded or cynical person (I've often described myself as a glass is half full movie watcher; I go into every movie wanting to like it), but sometimes the movies themselves are just so banal that it takes a lot more effort on my part to consider it actually good. I'm glad you enjoyed it though.

Stick Figure Studios

I thought every line out of Alexei and Yelena were pure gold, so I can’t agree that the humour was at all forced. The dinner table scene with Yelena was heartbreaking to me. I had some issues with the movie, but comedy and emotion weren’t a part of it.

Cole Jennett

I thought this was entertaining enough when I watched it (I particularly liked that they referenced the Bond film MOONRAKER not once but twice), but watching it again in microcosm in this reaction video, I had forgotten how much I was rolling my eyes at it the first time over the forced comedy, contrived emotions, cliched dialogue, unconvincing CGI in the action scenes and murky morals... I actually like the character of Black Widow, but I think she deserved a better movie than this.

Stick Figure Studios

She wasn’t on any advertising, trailers or even attended the premiere. Maybe something came out afterwards.

Cole Jennett

She’s third lead. And on the poster.

Topher White (The Elder)

That’s quite the spoiler

Cole Jennett

I wonder if it feel like that to females🧐

Cole Jennett

Though I didn't love this movie overall (it was fine but didn't stick with me afterwards), it did introduce us to Yelena and for that it has my eternal gratitude.

Roberto Abitua

Great reaction! I too love this movie, it's a lot of fun 😁 Glad you're going to record your reaction to the end credits scene 🥰

Shadow Queen

The female lead Avengers movies feel like, "YOU MUST LIKE THIS!" They are so forced, and that's why I think a lot of people don't like them. I'm still waiting on you to watch Loki, too!

Bryan Fritchie

She's a bad ass Sister redhead how could I not love Natasha! :)
