I loved this movie.

Eddie Perkins

Cassie likes sports movies...so she should catch Billy Crudup in Without Limits (1998, produced by...wait for it...Tom Cruise, who wanted to play Steve Prefontaine but was too old, so they got Crudup - who crushed it). It's based on Pre's life, soooooo no spoilers. Donald Sutherland is also in it. And the 1972 Olympics, too.

crazyivan

The jokes on Fallon...Mick is still prancing around in his 70's.

crazyivan

Cassie: "This is real, Russell." I like the bus scene with Tiny Dancer. Excellent movie. I've watched many times.

Clay F

I loved this movie but its been ruined for me ever since I bought the movie on Apple TV. I finally read the synopsis and it says that Penny is "no older than William" meaning she's also 15. Big yikes.

Foggy

Oks it me or is the sync a bit off .

The King In The North

It’s a love note to Rock and Roll. And all that comes with being in a R&R band. And very well done…. If you’re not a fan of the genre I guess it’s not for you.

Jeff Milcheck

Smart decision by Brad Pitt to drop out of that role, in my opinion.

Joe M

As I mentioned in my instagram post for this. I was not a fan of this movie. I think it’s very overrated and never got the appeal. The only thing that remotely makes it watchable is Kate Hudson’s performance, and she was just ok. I saw it once and never cared to see it again. I’ve actually never been a fan of any of Cameron Crows films. I liked Jerry McGuire for the longest of time, but it never aged well. As much I enjoy and love Cassie’s reactions, I’ll be taking a pass on this one unfortunately.

Joe M

"What kind of beer?" Golly, I love this movie. My favorite Cameron Crow.

Stick Figure Studios

one of my favorite movies looking forward to watching this reaction !

Du-Wayne Rood

Afaik only the extended cut was available on Blu-ray between its initial 2008 release and last year's 4K remaster release.

Gábor Árki

Nice reaction ladies! Glad you enjoyed the film! I thought the film was very well written. Your reaction was similar to mine the first time I watched it. 3/4 of the way through the movie, I wasn’t sure how the story would end. I wasn’t even sure how I wanted the movie to end. But I was actually happy the way the movie concluded. I look forward to you guys reacting to Legends of the Fall!

Robert da Spruce

Theatrical version IS the most common version. It can be rented on pretty much every digital retailer (Amazon and VUDU, for example), and is available on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K.

Tyler Foster

Okay, so just watched your reaction. Glad you enjoyed it! Loved that you kept going back and forth on if Russell was a good guy or bad guy. I thought he redeemed himself in the end….Side note; Brad Pitt was suppose to play that role but dropped out at the last minute due to the old “creative differences” reason… who knows why but I’m glad because Billy Crudup crushed that role…… you seemed unfamiliar with the music so you should brush up on your rock & roll! The soundtrack is a great place to start, then check out some classic R&R bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones etc…. And The Allman Brothers, who, even tho Cameron Crowe hasn’t admitted it, is widely considered as the basis for Stillwater.

Jeff Milcheck

Haven’t watched yet but excited to… in my top 5 of all-time-favorite films and easily the best movie about Rock & Roll music…. and the fact that’s it’s basically a biopic of the writer and director makes it even more special.

Jeff Milcheck

Oh Brother Where Art Thou: A Bluegrass Odyssey. Almost Famous; Rock Odyssey, including Sirens Complete the trilogy with Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Grinznmore

*rubs hands in greedy anticipation* That one's gonna be a great reaction (but aren't they all?)

Damon

Loved this! Thanks Cassie and Carly!

Gideon James

Kind of sad neither of you got the Mick Jagger joke by Jimmy Fallon.

nick bell

Cassie - Next we're doing Legends of the Fall because we want something with Brad Pitt that isn't so dark. Me - Yeaaaah...about that...

JayF

I was 15 years old in 1973, so I'm the same age as William and this film really brings back that year to me. This is one of my all time favorite films but I haven't seen it in years. Thank you for a wonderful evening at the movies.

Darrell Palmer

Easily my favorite Cameron Crowe movie, and just a damn good flick all-around. We need more Patrick Fugit.

Steve Mercier

Yes.. this is definitely a coming of age film. Brilliantly acted, clever and funny dialogue and a top notch soundtrack. Glad you ladies enjoyed this terrific film.

Robin Craft

This was one of my favorite of all your reactions so far. When this movie came out, it touched me on so many levels as a guy in a struggling band, and as a hard core fan of music, so it really warmed my heart to see Cassie and Carly enjoying it so much. Thanks again for another wonderful viewing experience.

Stephen Aech

The funniest part of Jimmy Fallon’s cameo is that his prediction that Mick Jagger wouldn’t still be touring when he was 80 was flat, dead wrong.

Lamar Smith

On the T-shirt scene and the “making too much of it,” bit, well, I heard a comedian opine on every acceptance speech ever made to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, at least one reference, if not the bulk of any speech will recount some seemingly trivial episode from some tour where somebody didn’t get the hotel room they wanted or some article was written that rubbed someone the wrong way and the drama over it breaking up some band permanently or for a time and that instance being recalled and rehashed twenty years and several stints in rehab later. If memory serves, ‘The Eagles’ broke up when, I want to say, the bass player, who never got to sing or write, wrote a particularly powerful song that the band recorded. Listening to the playback, one member determined that the vocals “weren’t up to Eagles standards,” and stayed behind while the writer went to dinner and re-recorded his own voice for the lyrics and that version was released and was a smash hit. Thus ended the Eagles for two decades, until their reunion tour, titled “Hell Frozen Over.” It was a reference from the breakup as to what would have to happen for the band to reunite.

Lamar Smith

In the intro, Alvin and the Chipmunks The Chipmunk Song played in the background. Seven years later, Jason Lee (Jeff) plays Dave in Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007).

G

I’d have recommended going straight to the extended “bootleg” version, but you can’t go wrong either way. This is my favorite movie of all time.

Mr Trick

I have seen the theatrical cut once like 12-13 years ago and just finished watching it again with their reaction. I did remember a lot of character moments were missing regarding the band but oh boy this cut is especially not merciful to Russell's character. He feels much more unlikeable compared to the bootleg cut. I think his cut-out scenes really make him a more nuanced, complex and likeable character and one can understand better what William sees in him.

Gábor Árki

I'm glad you loved this movie as much as I do, Cameron Crowe films are some of my favorites.

Jen Barnes

I always enjoyed Crowes books, as well as his films, of course, but his writing is just glorious.

Jon Johns

Hadn’t seen this movie in a while it was nice to see you two enjoy it. I grew up with non-digital analog amps listening to vinyl records no sound like it. Miss those days. Kate Hudson is a phenomenal actor. Not a chick flick guy but how to lose a Guy in 10 days is one of my favorite chick flick movies. Bear Grylls actually took Kate Hudson out as a celebrity in the wild might try to find that she’s the real deal. Next months pic I just actually watched. Legends of the fall is good but…….. ouch praying for you. Have Kleenexes on hand. I always keep your intro the same. Hello everyone is now your signature phrase. I actually look forward to that like you do the scrolling text in Star Wars. Glad to see you all smiling so much!!

Steven Ashford

She said the right words of why the core of it works. In music, and in written their was such passion then. Despite the other side. Me I cant write (as anyone can see) lol. But I can play pretty well... Haven't wrote in ages, but play yea. Two different things. Jamming BS, and written with a band and singer. But either side. More so then, in that time, I feel like. Then tie in the coming of age story kind of. And I like modern music. Plus rock cause guitar is a main favorite to play, but started that after synths and piano. So pop to pop rock are favs, along with oddly ambient? But this movie made me love songs I didn't, and some even more then I already did.

Michael J

I am so happy that you 2 enjoyed this film as much as I do. I remember seeing it in the theatre and loving every minute of it. ALSO, so excited you are doing "Legends of the Fall" such an EPIC film.

Bryan Harris

I love this movie. I remember think I was super edgy for watching this and High Fidelity, and some sort of in the know movie buff.

Lee Porteous

I was hoping for The Quiet Man, also, but she only watched it early, early yesterday morning. I hope she gets the YouTube edit out before St. Patrick's Day, even if that means putting The Quiet Man edit out before the Almost Famous edit. But in the meantime, I can't wait to see Almost Famous in a few hours when I can get home.

MikeLL

This movie brings up so many emotions and wonderful memories. It was a great time to be young. The music from that era will never be surpassed in my opinion. So many wonderful artists . My first concert was when I was 13..... The Who. My hearing still hasn't recovered.

Darren Hill

One of my favorites. Hopefully you find Dazed and Confused soon.

nick bell

Pumped to watch this! One of my favorites and I haven’t seen it in a while. Glad you both enjoyed it.

Stephen Aech

I knew you would have a great time with this, it’s such a well-done movie! Definitely don’t sleep on the extended “Bootleg Cut”, it adds quite a lot of good scenes and really fleshes out/adds more depth to the members of Stillwater and their experiences with one another.

Chris B.

Looking forward to seeing your reaction to this. As it’s one of my favourites

Dean Holt

This is such a great movie. I would like to suggest a kind of similar movie, but from the musicians point of view. Rockstar with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston. Such an awesome movie. You think you like Mark Wahlberg now... You haven't seen him in this role

Michael Lynch

Another great Cameron Crowe film is "Jerry Maguire" with Tom Cruise.

Rasmus Kristensen

I've heard so many people throughout the years say that they loved this movie. I don't know why I've never seen it until now, and I'm so glad I did. This was a great movie in so many ways - I loved it.

Johnny

Cameron Crowe is such a good writer. He said he often asks actors to sit with him and watch The Beatles A Hard Day's Night to get an idea of energy and enthusiasm before they shoot a film.

G

So I’m sure you guys will be glad to know that William turned out ok. He left rock journalism and went to film school, where he learned to direct, and in 2000, he told the story of his adolescence. William is the writer and director of this film, Cameron Crowe. This story is true, only very thinly veiled. Stillwater was an amalgamation of several bands Crowe toured with and wrote about for Rolling Stone when he was a kid, including the Allman Brothers, the Eagles, and The Who. He also actually was mentored by Lester Bangs (who was a real rock journalist who died tragically of a drug overdose in 1982). Penny Lane is still close friends with Crowe, and he asked her permission before writing the movie. Frances McDormand hung out with Crowe’s mom a lot, and her performance is based on that time spent with her. Anyway, I think it’s wild that this story, which is so out there, actually happened. And it’s beautiful that Crowe was able to tell it in such a beautiful, layered, and complex way. It’s about the shattering of innocence and the forging of wisdom, including the wisdom not to throw your innocence completely away. One of my favorites.

Brian Harris

Philip Seymour Hoffman was an amazing talent. He brings so much to his movies. He was great in Scent of a Woman. RIP Great movie. Thank you.

Grinznmore

I have watched this many times over the years.. always loved it. Was nice to watch it with you guys...

Andrew Rose

What a Good movie and glad you have picked this one also I own this movie too - a double win lol

JarHead0351

Forgot to add one more thing but don't want to edit cause Patreon might just remove my comment altogether as usual. I found this interview with Patrick Fugit a couple of days ago: https://www.indiewire.com/2021/07/almost-famous-patrick-fugit-favorite-cut-penny-lane-ending-1234649987/ It's not long but he does tell a few things about his experience making the movie and also his conversation with Cameron Crowe about how William's life would continue after.

Gábor Árki

Also, "that's the dad from the Chipmunks" hurt me deep down inside. Time to consider the works of Kevin Smith.

Godzilla Jones

I was hoping for The Quiet Man tonight. Oh well. I have to wait for the you tube edit for this one since I can only find the extended version. So, I'll watch my copy and then your reaction.

Craig Russell

For more Fairuza Balk, see The Craft and American History X Also, since you love Kate Hudson so much, go watch some old Goldie Hawn movies. Overboard, Private Benjamin, Wildcats.

Godzilla Jones

I consider this movie to be my all time favorite for a while now. Can't really explain why, but it has a kind of wonderfulness that really hit me. The entire picture, story, characters, editing, music is so well put together that it is an almost perfect movie. Although I'm talking about the 2h40m long extended aka bootleg aka untitled cut and I'm a bit sad you have been watching the theatrical version. I think as most people I've found this movie after its theatrical release and home video releases predominantly featured the extended cut only. Having seen both I do find that to be the superior version and would put it besides LOTR as the recommended version of first time watch for everyone. The theatrical does contain all the story points but overall feels like it is just rushing through the plot and it is just an extract of a really great movie. There are so many amazing character moments, scenes and just little things that have been cut for the theatrical release. So anyway I highly, highly recommend to everyone to watch the extended cut of this movie. Also, a fun deleted scene worth checking out where William is trying to convince her mother to let him take the assignment and go on tour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIEzRZFPaHY

I really needed a comfort movie tonight. Super happy this is it

djKENTO

My favorite soundtrack of all time and my favorite film of all time. It’s not easy to fully express what Almost Famous means to me or why I love it as much as much as I do. But I am thankful to Cameron Crowe for making it. And for creating something so deeply personal, heartfelt, warm, honest, funny, sincere, and joyful. And for creating something that aches in a sad, human, and beautiful way. I find it comforting that a film like this, or any work of art like it, exists. The film made me look at the passion, impact, and beauty of music in a different and more powerful way. And it’s stuck with me ever since. The characters, the time, the place, the music, the passion, and the feeling of the film is something very near and dear to my heart. The film depicts and captures a world I want to be a part of. So I’ll always be happy to revisit it. I also think that it captures ideas and feelings that I have carried with me and always will carry with me. Do you ever listen to music or something like that and think: “That sounds like me? Or that feels like me?” Or is there something that you connect with in a profound and personal way? Like everyone once in a while you come across something that is so...you? I feel that way about Almost Famous. For me, it captures the passion, the spirit, the heart, and the sweet and sour of who I am and what it feels like to see and feel the world the way that I do. Or the way I want to see it and feel it. The characters, the time and the world and the feeling the film contains and offers...makes me feel happy and like I belong. Like I’m home. That’s a big reason why I love the film as much as I do.

Aaron Hawkins

Well this looks like a fun one.

David RedEagle

so glad you did this with Carly...............this is one of my favorites from the 2000s.............and I think that tiny dancer is the best use of song in a movie.............

christopher b swanson

Anothe Cassie's pick. Will Carly ever get to have a pick? I know it is your channel, but I would be curious as to what Carly would pick.

Brian McGovern

Oh, this is gonna be awesome! So glad it's you AND Car!
