WandaVision EP 4 & 5 - Full Reaction

Hey guys! Here is the full reaction for Episodes 4 & 5 of WandaVision! I had a bunch of questions going into these episodes, and I came out with even more haha. It's been so long since I've seen most of the Marvel movies so I feel like I'm missing out on little things that reference previous movies!! Either way, they're keeping me on the edge of my seat!

WandaVision EP 4 & 5 - Full Reaction

Comments

Wanda's very first line in episode one ("My husband and his indestructible head") was such great foreshadowing for that powerful moment in episode 4. And a callback to Endgame. For me, the fun of the first few episodes was trying to spot all the hidden clues like that: the lines with double meanings, the foreshadowing, hints, etc. It was like solving a puzzle, doing a crossword. I think many people missed the significance of that opening line at first, and so weren't really primed to be in the puzzle mindset yet, which may have led in part to the mixed/disappointed reviews when it seemed like "just" a silly sitcom on the surface. Personally, I loved the mystery and speculation, but it was definitely a change of pace from Marvel's usual formula.

Sorry this has nothing to do with WandaVision I just didn't know the best place to post this. If you see this Cassie, with the sad passing of director Ivan Reitman a few days ago I thought it might be a good idea to have a poll in his honour. You have already seen Ghostbusters 1 and 2, but he has so many great films, all of them with a great heart that I think you would love. He was the one who first gave Arnold his shot at doing comedies. First in Twins and then they reteamed for Kindergarten Cop and Junior. And those movies are sweet enough it might even make you look past all of Arnold's killing in The Terminator lol. I think the three I mentioned (especially Twins and Kindergarten Cop) you would absolutely adore. However, one from 1993 called Dave with Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver may even become one of your favorites lol, bold claim I know. Dave (the character and the movie) is just so likeable. Thanks as always Cassie, you are awesome and hope you had fun watching Rocky IV....we are almost at my favorite (?) one. All the best.

I absolutely love that they just used the X-Men version of Pietro.... absolutely brilliant. And nothing wrong with "not doing your research" -- my wife is the comic book nerd in our house and I never watched the X-Men movies, so she explained that reveal to me when watching this lol

Raymond Morgan

Nice! I think I'm due for a re-watch, I love Contact. "Small moves..." *edit* Cassie could add that one to a 'strong female lead' poll.

Erik Daniel

Too true. Why I threw in the "slightly" misjudging characters because she actually terribly misjudged them lol. But as you said, that was the entire point and exactly how they were written. We all thought the same thing on first watch. Like Dr. Charles Nichols in The Fugitive. We trusted you man!!!

Erik Daniel

Yeah, that was fun. Although I wouldn't say she misjudged them. These characters were deliberately written as nice and likeable so that the audience can be slapped in the face when realizing they actually aren't.

Great reaction, it is exciting to see Cassie going from "I don't know if I like this" to completely glued to the screen. Also, Cassie, I can repeat the others: don't beat yourself up for not picking up all the clues, cameos, characters right away. I mean unless someone just spent their entire past week re-watching all Marvel content or they are such huge fans to have seen everything a dozen or more times and have it memorized, then it is perfectly fine not catching up on everything. And I think you are doing fine at recognizing characters and plot connections in the MCU. I don't think I did anything better than you and had re-watched all the movies a second time maybe half a year before WandaVision came out. I'm seeing this series the second time and still noticing or reading some new things in the comments I didn't caught up on before.

Gábor Árki

I just re-watched Contact a few weeks ago, but didn't catch the reference. But in the back of my mind it did feel familiar. You're right. It's probably too exact to be a coincidence. How cool!

Marty McGee

That wasn’t the explosion that took out the King. That was Zemo disguised as Bucky. Everything else was right though😊

Cole Jennett

Did anyone notice the scene that seemed to be 'borrowed' directly from the movie Contact? Another signal overtop of the background noise. Kat Dennings asking for a t.v. and the director asking "are we recording this?", to which she replies "never stopped". Probably a little tip of the cap too with that exact line of dialogue.

Erik Daniel

"do we like this s.w.o.r.d. director? I think I like him". lol that made me chuckle. It seems since slightly misjudging some characters in the past (I'm thinking Norman Bates and Paul Reiser in Aliens) she is now checking in with us before completely trusting someone lol. This show is a trip, I am struggling right along side you Cassie. It is very interesting though, I dig it.

Erik Daniel

In a sense that was Pietro... but this actor played Petro in the X-Men movies, not Age of Ultron. :) Also, Lagos the Paper Towels is also Lagos the City where Wanda contained an explosion that would have taken out Cap. America.... but the lifted the explosion really high and took out the King of Wakanda in Civil War. Icing on the cake for that one is when they give the tagline for the paper towels: Lagos - For the messes you didn't mean to make. One of the earlier commercials was for Strucker Watches too... Remember? ... Well, the Hydra scientist in charge of experimenting on the twins was also Strucker.

Richard Ryan

Cassie, reading through some of the comments, it looks like some of your questions were answered. I will just say that when Wanda opened the door and saw her brother, Darcy was watching it on her old TV set and said “she recast Pietro?” I wasn’t sure if you caught that.

Tara

I love the theme song for WandaVision in Episode 5. The lyrics are brilliant, and actually brings tears to my eyes. I miss Family Ties!

Cole Jennett

"Show me that smile again... Don't waste another minute on your cryin'. We're nowhere near the end..." lol I'm singing the theme from Growing Pains...

Em McG

wow you're starting to really enjoy it from here 😉

Em McG

Correct except it's not really accurate to call it a "recast." Pietro fell into the grey area between characters owned by 20th Century Fox and those owned by Disney's Marvel Studios, and consequently appeared in both franchises simultaneously. He was portrayed by Evan Peters in four Fox films from 2014 to 2019, and by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Disney/Marvel's Age of Ultron in 2015. Peters then quasi-reprised the role in WandaVision, but this is technically a different character, so it's just a fun easter egg.

Robin T

This is my second watch thru of this show and I still have a lot of questions, so you’re not alone lol.

Josh Phillips

Non-spoiler: Wandas brother was (before he was in the Avengers movies) allready part of the X-Men franchise. And there he was played by another actor. He was recast when he was in Avengers Age of Ultron. The guy you see in the end? It's the actor from before the recast...
