Far And Away - Full Reaction

I love your content and think you're a very kind and genuine person Cassie. Same to you Carly. But I have to ask- the scene where she looks at Joseph's privates while he is unconscious, would you two have found the scene funny if she were the one unconscious and Joseph had taken a peek at her naked body? I've seen you during other reactions get upset (and rightfully so) when a girl is being sexually assaulted but when it's a woman assaulting a man people often view the scene as comical or like the guy was lucky some girl was interested enough to sneak a peek.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzThbFDHWOY Here's a link to the restoration trailer. I'm hoping Cassie will let me send her a copy of it. :)

Daniel Pulliam

I’ve just finished a full restoration of the three hour extended cut of Far and Away. This is one of my favorite movies ever, and no one seemed interested in doing the work to restore this rarely-seen version, so I took it on myself.

Daniel Pulliam

Cassie is getting me to watch all these great movies from the 70's, 80's and 90's that I have not seen in decades. I forgot how good they all were. Far and Away is one of those. It's been over 20 years sense I had seen it. I had forgot a lot of the movie. It was fun to watch it again.

Rick Williams

I grew up with these movies. Love Risky Business, All the rights movies and Taps. Red Dawn is another of my favorite 80's movies.

Rick Williams

Being a movie star, if you will, is hard on people. I wouldn't be surprised if he had been a nice guy, but being in the public eye can change a person. I went to school with Ed Harris and he was a great guy. I have no idea what he's like now. He's not in our alumni group, but if I were him it wouldn't be. He would get pestered to death. So some in the group might think he's a prick, but he's probably still an OK guy.

Christopher Carr

Word!!

Doc Savage

Better young Tom Cruise movies. . RISKY BUSINESS, ALL THE RIGHT MOVES & TAPS.

Frederick Gramcko

You want *young* Tom Cruise, you gotta watch Legend. Heck, it's a fairy tale about true love and junk. You'd love it, Cassie.

Godzilla Jones

I googled the amount of land each person was awarded. The typical plot was 160 acres of land. My mini mini great grandfather came over from Ireland to escape the great potato famine. Not much longer after that he fought as a union soldier in the Civil War and settled in Kentucky. Another great reaction Cassie and Carly.

Steven Ashford

Cool little factoid: this movie is based on the true story of how Ron Howard's great-grandparents met, came to America, and got their farm. Ron Howard's father, Rance, grew up in a small town in Oklahoma not far from the family farm that Joseph and Shannon stake their claim to in that last shot. He left that little town and the farm to come to Hollywood and become a character actor, and his son went on to become a director and tell Rance's grandparents' story. A uniquely American tale. Also uniquely and tragically American is the story of how all that land came to be available to be given away in the first place. The US government violated a treaty with the Cherokee nation and violently drove them off the land to make room for this land race. I wish that Ron Howard had acknowledged that shameful fact in some small way.

Brian Harris

Ah, I've been missing for a few days, so I didn't realize you'd reacted to this. I haven't read the other comments, so forgive me if I'm repeating another's thought: Even though this movie is a bit uneven, one part that is absolutely brilliant - arguably historic - is the Land Rush scene at the end. What's sad is that when viewed through the perspective of the modern filmgoer, I'm not sure it can really be appreciated. We've gotten so used to seeing giant CGI armies of 10,000 orcs on screen, that the comparatively fewer number of participants during the "Far and Away" sequence might seem less impressive than it is. But it's because this was made before CGI became the go-to method for creating spectacle on screen, it took way more logistical work and coordination to accomplish than had it been done in a computer. I would also argue that the Land Rush has a much more organic and natural feel to it - and thus, more thrilling to watch - than a CGI army ala Attack of the Clones.

"Here's Johnny!" look at you quoting old movies. *wipes away tear* I'm so proud. I'm a little late to the party on this one, busy few nights, but this was great fun as usual. And another Ron Howard cut I love it. Won't be the last you'll see of his work. This one was especially fun because this is a film that for whatever reason I never really got to. Pieces here and there but I was right with you every step of the way. Especially at the end, I was really worried about Cassie there cause this time I didn't know the outcome lol. I enjoyed it, a nice film and Robert Prosky as Mr. Christie was so great, such a joy to watch. The company made it even better as always. Oh and hearing you talk about Carly's nail colour in the intro, I now have 'Paint it Black' by The Rolling Stones in my head but instead it's "I see those red nails and I want them painted black". ...I just thought you all should know that lol. peace. Thank you as always.

Erik Daniel

During filming of one of the scenes in the water, he had some problems in the water - and he never thanked the Search and Rescue guys who helped save him - in fact he was quite rude to them.

ENC SW DV Rush

My cousin is on the USS Abraham Lincoln. During the filming of Top Gun Maverick Cruise demanded that the gym be closed at all times on the ship. So it would be available to him whenever he decided to use it ALONE. The crew were also told to never look Tom in the eye. When I asked him if he'd watch another Cruise film he said absolutely. He's a prick but he makes great movies. Lol

Gideon James

Tell me, you like my hat!

Cole Jennett

yes that was a wild card pick for me from one of the lives, gotta get that one on the schedule

Cassie

haha i didn’t even notice it was bad!

Cassie

i’m hoping saturday night, sunday at the latest

Cassie

i’m sorry meant to update, im not sure if it sent a notification but the proper version was up yesterday afternoon!!

Cassie

love this comment, thank you Tara, need to add Days of Thunder, i had never heard of it before this !! i went deep into articles and pics of them during marriage days after this

Cassie

She has seen at least 3 Ron Howard directed films in the last few months, Rogue One (well, technically he "directed" it), Apollo 13 and now Far And Away. So she has seen more Ron Howard directed films than Hitchcock directed films proving there is no justice in the universe. 😢

MikeLL

Young Tom Cruise in Ridley Scott’s Legend😎

Wade Watts

Great reaction ladies! I really enjoyed that! The “Popcorn Effect” is definitely real! Popcorn Effect /ˈpäpˌkôrn əˈfekt/ Noun 1. Phenomenon where watching a movie along with Cassie and Carly makes the movie much more enjoyable. 😀 I totally forgot that Ron Howard directed this movie! While I appreciate this channel is about expanding your horizons Cassie, I think there’s something to be said for choosing some movies you really want to see as well. I thought both this movie and the Count of Monte Cristo were excellent choices. And seeing you and Carly enjoy them so much really made me appreciate these movies more than when I originally watched them. Keep up the great work ladies! I look forward to Glory next!

Robert da Spruce

The Independent (British newspaper) did a top 10 list of worst Irish accents in film. Tom Cruise was number one for this but interestingly it also includes Pierce Brosnan who is actually Irish! Although he is from the Republic of Ireland and was criticised for his attempt at a Northern Irish accent.

Wes Stewart

So, when are you dropping Glory? I watch it every year around this time, so I'm waiting for YOU! lol Another good one is Red Tails, about the first all black fighter squadron in WW2.

Craig Russell

That was good, I don't think I appreciated this movie as much as it deserved the first time I saw it, then again I might be biased because this time I got to watch it with Cassie AND Carly!! This movie has a romantic aspect that I was all in on, especially because it also had bare knuckle boxing and an insane horse race 😆 No, but it was actually a really good story, did have a slow build up but a great pay off. Anyway it was a really fun watch, and Tom Cruise may be a demigod in sneakers or whatever in that "pick up a copy wherever paperbacks are sold" not-a-religion religion, but he's actually not a bad actor and most of his movies are super watchable. Off the top of my head there's a veritable plethora, including: A Few Good Men, Born On The Fourth Of July* (true story), The Last Samurai, Collateral... Then there's a couple movies he was in but had a smaller role in, The Outsiders and Taps, that are worth an 80s deep dive, as well as Legend 👍

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Honestly, most of Cruise’s films are pretty solid

Andrew Hogan

If you want to see an even younger Tom Cruise, you have to watch "Risky Business." It's not a GREAT film, but it is quite fun. I think you'll enjoy it. Plus, you get to see Tom Cruise dance in his underwear. :-)

Wally Hartshorn

Definitely this. Hopefully it's just an easy fix, like the wrong file was uploaded

Robert C

Yes, Yes, This!

MikeLL

I was going to suggest this as a movie for St. Patrick's day, but since you've already seen it, may I suggest "The Quiet Man." Its a John Wayne movie, but its not a western, its set in Ireland and I think would be a good light-hearted watch for St. Patty's day.

Christian Yoder

Rubbin’ is racin!

djKENTO

on my list!!!

Cassie

wait how did i not notice that one, what is it called? i love a bath and enya!

Cassie

yes that was unexpected!!

Cassie

i’ve never heard of that, i’ll check it out!! ❤️❤️

Cassie

Now you need to watch Days of Thunder!

Craig Russell

Officer and a Gentleman is a great movie. Cassie would really enjoy.

Darren Hill

I can just picture it if Cassie met Tom Cruise IRL. She would call him Tom Hanks the whole time. And then she’d try to wink at him! 🤣 Just teasing Cassie! 😉

Robert da Spruce

Great seeing Cassie and Carly together again, even greater was having Cassie watch a Tom Cruise movie for more than 2 hours and 15 minutes and calling him Tom Hanks! Proving once again, that the Hanks is more powerful than the Cruise!

MikeLL

Yes Days Of Thunder

Andrew Hogan

A few more romantic films to add to the list. An Officer and A Gentleman Arthur (Dudley Moore) Shrek

Andrew Hogan

I can't wait to get off work and watch this. This is one of my favorite films

Ronny Boss

LOVE the reactions... especially during the fight scenes.. you both "duck" and "gasp" identically LOL

Bryan Harris

You should react to the siege of jodotville it is based on a true story about Irish peacekeepers sent to the Congo starring Jamie dornan and mark strong

dara ryan

CARRRRRRLYYYYYY!

Bryan Harris

Morning Cassie, I was just checking my notifications, and saw you uploaded this reaction. A pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning! I guess I know what I’ll be watching tonight! 😀 You mentioned you’ll be uploading a version with better video quality. If it’s possible, could you please let us know when it’s up? I usually download your reactions vs. streaming them. I find the player I use has a little more control, making it easier to sync it with the movie. I’m looking forward to watching this one along with you and Carly! Have a great day!

Robert da Spruce

When I saw that Cassie was uploading this on Tuesday night, I kept refreshing my page hoping to watch, but it got too late for me on the East Coast. But now I have something to look forward to tonight after work. It’s been a while, but I remember how beautiful the cinematography was. 12 hours later… Cassie: “NO! (wags her finger sternly) I will not be okay! I don’t except this!!” Watch out when Cassie wags her finger during a reaction. She means business. I love it Cassie… never change as you continue this journey. We truly enjoy how immersed you get and care so much about the characters. It defines you from other reactors and why myself and so many others were compelled to become a patron. Sometimes I forget that Tom and Nicole were married in the 90’s and if you want to see their first movie together when they first met and fell in love, watch Days Of Thunder. Also you mentioned the Mission Impossible movies. I haven’t seen the most recent ones, but I’ve seen the first few and they were good action movies. I know that Tom does a lot of his own stunts and he injured himself during at least one of them. Looking forward to watching Glory and WandaVision with you!🍿

Tara

I thought I had seen this as a kid, I had not. I got it confused with The Man from Snowy River, which also has a gorgeously filmed horse sequence. Honestly… this was a snooze fest for me. Couldn’t get invested. But I had fun watching you both enjoy it. I just think it’s like 30 minutes too long.

djKENTO

PO Box 547, Provo, UT 84603 It's listed on her YouTube about page if you want to verify.

Andrew Ramos

Please please please do the mission impossible films. They’re so good.

djKENTO

I saw this movie when it came out, but I honestly don't remember much about it except that hypnotic, mesmerizing song from Enya. Had that on repeat for weeks.

Mr Jordan

If you liked Cruise and Kidman together there are two more movies they made. They met and fell in love during the production of Days of Thunder (1990). Cruise divorced her wife, Mimi Rogers and married Kidman in 1990. Their second work together was Far And Away. The third and final film they did together was Eyes Wide Shut (1999) at the end of their relationship. They divorced in 2001.

Gábor Árki

Just downloaded the 1080P version and yes it's way too low quality, guess I'll wait till tomorrow, gotta see these ladies react in HD!

Allen Bond

The first time I watched this, the supernatural aspect in the end, caught me by surprise. Great camera work.

G

Quick question! I have a gift I'd like to send for either Rocky 4 or 5. Where do we address those?

Aaron

I am glad you watched this one, it’s great. Another movie that exists along side Far and Away in my head and came out a year after is A Far Off Place. It’s a Disney film that was age appropriate when you were younger, so you may have seen it already.
