Hey guys! Here is the full reaction to The Matrix Reloaded. People have been asking for months and months to finish The Matrix movies, so I decided to go ahead and do that. The first one surprised me, and I know that sequels are usually not the greatest, but I actually liked this one! Do I have a zillion questions? Yes. Haha hope you guys enjoy!
Hi, Cassie! I was wondering if you are going to watch Matrix 3. Just finished your reactions to 1 and 2 and it was amazing to rewatch them with you. It would be great to finish the trilogy!

Hey Cassie just chiming in here... #3 is absolutely incredible. Pay no mind to the people that rag on it. Basically it was meant to be a trilogy from the beginning... so the third movie wraps up the story succinctly and logically. If you watch #3 by itself without knowing the full storyline it will be boring, but put together, this trilogy is one of the best I've ever seen. The final fight scene in the third movie is one of my favorites of all-time. Highly recommend. They describe Neo & Agent Smith as the positive and negative sides of a battery... the end is "inevitable" as they would say. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Hey Cassie! If you ever get around to watching part 3, it might be worth watching a recap vid, just as a refresher. I remember parts 2&3 came out within months of each other and 3 picks up immediately after 2. Here's one that I found.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIgX0pcOoxo

The Matrix series - A whole lot of computer programming analogies.
When they are in the matrix - the people who are "awake" are in it by choice with their "avatars" kind of like playing a PC game - but it isn't done with controllers but their minds while they are plugged in directly. Most people have to abide by the rules of the program.
The programs without use/damaged programs become glitches or rogue programs - werewolves, ghosts, vampires, etc - those are program that should have been deleted but weren't
People like the Merovingian, key maker, the oracle, the architect - special programs that have a particular use and are higher level "control" or "administrative" or "security" functions for the whole system - which is represented by the "Matrix"
Mr Smith was an agent - he was a special function program, but because he can "replicate" and "infect" other programs - he is a computer virus now, but could be explained as what we get when we get cancer - cells that have unrestricted growth and damage the body. He explained it himself - Smith destroyed Neo and then Neo came back and "destroyed" him - but Neo didnt destroy him - Neo inadvertently "changed Smith's programming making him a virus that could self replicate.
Without looking at it in this way, this movie series could be very confusing to people.
The problem is if they aren't in the matrix,... they are all still just human,... so in the end, the story line doesn't work well - unless you just enjoy it as it is - entertainment.
Edit: I loved The matrix,... and enjoyed for entertainment the rest of the trilogy. I'll keep my comments about the last two movies for later,....

"he's being held prisoner by the Mejujinet" hahah that was awesome. And at the end with the architect "I'm trying so hard" lol, you did great. The philosophy in this movie is on a Parmenides level of craziness. Dude questioned everything. You might get a kick out of the 2003 mtv movie awards. They spoofed that scene with Will Ferrell and it was just about as easy to follow. I think it was 2 years later at the 2005 mtv movie awards where Gosling and Mcadams shared their kiss you were (maybe) trying to remember in another video. But yes, don't worry if you were confused, we all were. I've seen this movie a bunch and my brain still melts a bit at the "Mejujinet" and the architect scene.

Matrix franchise has one of those movies, which need multiple viewings to fully understand them, which I personally find cool. I don't like the stories which are spoon-fed to viewers. I think you will enjoy the 3rd one as well. 👍😊

1. Yes, Neo over=exerted his power and that's why he's in a coma...but did you notice that he was able to stop the sentinels using his power...in the REAL world? Usually he can only use his powers in the Matrix.
2. The other guy in the coma, the "bad guy" the "traitor"...his name is Bane...remember when he was in the Matrix..?he was assimilated into Agent Smith and it was SMITH who went back to the real world...Bane is just a vessel for Smith in the real world now. Therefore it wasn't Bane who tried to kill Neo and become a traitor, it's really Smith.

Hi, Cassie. I am currently watching "Reloaded" and wanted to explain something before I forgot. I think I'll comment each time there's a discrepancy or question...who knows, this may be my only entry for the film. LOL The oracle did not lie to Neo in the first film when she said he wasn't "The One"...she said to him, "it seems you're waiting for something" and Neo asked "What am I waiting for?" The Oracle replied, "You're next life, maybe..." and if you remember, Neo was killed by Smith...BUT he came back to life...his next life...THAT was when he was able to stop the bullets, beat the agents, fly, etc. :)

I feel like this movie has good character development, and great action. I also love that Morpheus and Trinity get their moments to shine in a world where Neo outclasses everyone. My favorite parts are watching Morpheus take down the twins, and Trinity's line: "In five minutes I'll tear that entire goddamn building down"
I think you picked up more of the Architect scene than the vast majority of people. You pretty have it down. That's one of the reasons why I love your channel, how good you are at the complexities and subtleties.
I really love the dinner scene where you exclaim "Okay, enough with this guy", the Merovingian is full of BS.

I don't keep up with many celebrities, do people give Keanu a hard time? I have heard he is a super down to earth guy and that he's a great shooter. Thats about it.
As for the movie- I didn't love it back when I saw it when it came out and I still don't. The original is really something special. I can't remember how number 3 ends but I do remember liking it. I'm looking forward to watching that one again and seeing if I still feel the same.

I actually refused to go see The Matrix back in 1999 when all my friends were raving about it because I had rented Johnny Mnemonic which had come out a few years prior and it was terrible. I regretted that after a friend loaned me his VHS copy and I finally realized the hype was justified. So I went to the cinema to watch the sequels with high expectations and had a tepid reaction to both, more so the third movie. But what I remember from that time was how much of a spectacle these movies were. The hype and build up around them, and this was also during the time of the Star Wars prequels and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It was on par with those movies in terms of optimistic excitement. Only LoTR was also a critical success and holds up today, but the early 00s were an interesting time for blockbusters before the Marvel onslaught.

I remember I was quite disappointed by the sequels when they came out. It took me some time to make my peace with them. (2-3 watch, checking out the Animatrix and watching some YT videos explaining things) If you think about it the first one is kind of a perfect movie. It has a great script and writing with some intriguing philosophical questions. It has a great pacing too. The story continuously unfolds and the action sequences feel an integral part of it. Of course it does drop you into the rabbit hole at the beginning of the movie but does an excellent job guiding the viewer as Neo is getting his answers. It has wonderfully crafted action scenes and some really great cinematography too. Following that was inevitably an impossible task.
Cassie, essentially what the architect is saying is that the Prophecy and the One are just another level of control. The first version of the Matrix was a perfect world - also mentioned by Smith during the first movie - but it wasn't accepted by the people. The next version was much more like the world what we are seeing but still didn't work out. Eventually the machines (Oracle) figured out a solution where most people simply accept the Matrix. The ones who don't are allowed to rebel. But over time this escalates into a larger and larger anomaly eventually bringing the One to existence. This is the point when the machines terminate Zion and with the help of the One through his willingness to sacrify the free people to save humanity itself reboot the Matrix. Then some are freed by the One and taken to Zion to rebuild, also hinting the seeds of the Prophecy and restarting the cycle. So it is kind of controlling the chaos. This cycle has already been repeated 5 times already, so there were 5 Ones before Neo. But his situation is unique as his love for Trinity is providing him an impossible choice: save Trinity or sacrify her and save humanity.
Also, it seems to me you missed an important thing. Bane, the guy who wanted to kill Neo in Zion and the lone survivor found at the end, was the first one we saw Smith copy himself over/into before he answered the phone.

Matrix was awesome! So interesting and mind blowing. Second not so good. I agree with most of the comments against the second. Third is even more if the same….not as good.

I enjoyed the first one, 100%. One of the best of the late 90’s. However after hearing that they got worse I didn’t watch the second until recently. Boy oh boy were they right. What a total downgrade this was. What’s worse is that the studio seemed to have cut their budget this one and it shows on screen. It’s very clunky and all over the place. So unfortunately I’m probably not going to watch the next two. And I hope the last one was the end of this series. Just my opinion.

That guy on the table at the end is the same guy that Smith assimilated before picking up the phone earlier in the movie. Also, that freeway chase scene did take a lot of time and effort to film. they even built their own freeway set that was a mile and a half long! You essentially had it right about what the architect said to Neo. Basically, the"one" was a glitch that kept popping up in each version and so the machines used it as a way to maintain control over the humans by inventing the prophecy and eventually having the one select a certain group of humans to repopulate Zion each cycle. Otherwise, the system would crash and every human in the matrix would die. So they used the One and the destruction of zion to act as a kind of reset button in order to keep the matrix running smoothly. Can't wait to see your reaction to Matrix Revolutions!

It's interesting that it really took me rewatching the sequels to truly appreciate the new matrix movie as well. no spoilers, just that I found that a lot of the concepts in the sequels I'd forgotten about, and being reminded of them actually made some of the issues I had with the new movie make a bit more sense. anyway, that's a discussion for another time.
Really a great reaction to watch along with, Cassie. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.
Also, for a fun little bit of trivia, There have been several video games set in the matrix universe. One was an alternate story of the first trilogy, where you play Neo, which also had an alternate ending, but when this movie was released, there was a game released at the same time, which was played from the perspective of Niobe and her crew, and their story. You basically got to see all the scenes leading up to every time she appears in the movie (at least when inside the matrix). The game didn't do very well though, partly because among other issues it had, the story wasn't very well told.

Like many, I was confused, frustrated and definitely disappointed by the Matrix sequels when it first came out. I did do the required research that many had to do to come to the conclusion that it's not that bad or it's got some good points, but that's not the kind of high praise I think a movie like this should shoot for.
I've seen several fan edits that took the sequels and cut it down to a logical movie that fits more with the first movie. Some even include scenes from the Animatrix which really helps a lot. That's pretty much how I watch these Matrix sequels. As someone who enjoys editing video, I like being able to see new interpretations of movies and some fan edits are really good and definitely worth watching over the actual movies themselves. But that's just my opinion.

Cassie, the one big reason this series kind of messes with you, doesn't give you answers, and generally tries, and succeeds, to mess with your world view, is that it's an examination of philosophy.
Every generation has its own version of, "The world is not as it seems." Movie. My generation had, "Highlander" and I suppose millennials have "Harry Potter" -- this is just my opinion, of course. Anyway, don't fret, folks are still frustrated by this film, it's tricksy B.S. 'explanations' and massive plot holes, and unfinished stories.
But I feel like it's just moaning about the stupid 'theme' of a roller coaster. "Like, are we supposed to be riding on a giant viper snake thing? Are the cars on the track running from the snake? Snakes aren't actually a half-mile long! This ride is stupid."
Just... Like, enjoy the ride? Let yourself be immersed in the suspension of disbelief, and poetic licence, and enjoy the movie, and ask questions, and hear the debate, and allow there to be no answers... Are you not entertained!?
I am, as always, because I just don't care about things so much. I've read philosophy books, and I've examined the mysteries of religion, and faith, and I've had a child, and I am okay not knowing everything, understanding everything, and living with questions that I may never get answered.
Anyway, The Matrix series of films are just one big mind-twist designed to provoke bigger, deeper conversations, or just entertain with sword fights and ghosts. And love, the power of love, of course.

Both of them are entertaining, but it is difficult to follow one of the most influential movies of the 20th century. when this movie came out i was so hyped to see it. i had read a lot of the expanded matrix fiction commissioned after the first movie and it was all so imaginative and cool and i COULDNT WAIT to see what they did with the actual movie since just like..one off short stories were blowing my mind.
i couldnt find a show near me on the opening night and had to roller blade like an hour and a half to a theater that i was able to buy a ticket for. i got there like 20 min late during the rave scene was thinking...wtf did i walk in on this is the matrix?? and it was pretty much all down hill from there. very disappointing sequels.
