Ghostbusters: Afterlife - Full Reaction

***MOVIE SPOILERS BELOW***

Ok FINALLY here is  my Ghostbusters Afterlife reaction. I know streaming is quite possible with this yet (I think it's available to rent starting Feb 1st?) but this is for those of you who have purchased it already. We recorded this a while ago in the theatre and as always the theatre experience is great! Don't mind the jumbo popcorn and drink ha! We were using this one as a sort of test for a few things for the Spider-man theatre reaction so we didn't invite friends and family, so I ended up having the place to myself. There are still a few little technical fixes we will make to the next one! It's difficult to capture dialogue in a theatre where it's VERY loud, so my voice is isolated and does sound a bit robotic at times, but you get the gist of what I'm saying!

Ok now the movie! This was so great and so fun for me. I seriously got teary seeing the original guys show up and even the little callbacks and nods to the original films they put in. It was nostalgic without recycling anything. I loved the new characters, Paul Rudd was so great and how could you not love Phoebe and Podcast:) It was cool to see how they put a kid angle on this without being too cheesy, but also not taking it too serious. Also, I DID end up watching the end credit scenes. The first one I missed because my bladder was going to explode and I wasn't recording as I watching the 2nd one :( - but I did see them!

Ps-my mom told me after that this was mostly all filmed in a little town 20 minutes away from where I'm from and have spent a ton of time there, I can't wait to re-watch again knowing that!

Comments

Loved it, loved your reaction. This might be the most worthy sequel to any movie from 80s ever made.

JohnnyUtah

the entrance to Spengler's house were quotes from the Bible.

Jimmy Reyes

Yyyyeah......; this does not work... Aslo; wish I was rich enough to rent out a theatre....sigh. Movie is Fkn fantastic though, way better than expected, and that entire ending sequence, including and especially THAT scene? Frkn W R E C K E D me...

Diiirk706

Loved the movie and your reaction. It was a pleasure to see someone who is as messy as I at eating POPCORN> Cassie is a POPCORN eating MACHINE!

Anthony Perez

Most of this movie was filmed in my hometown Drumheller Alberta. It was wild seeing Ecto-1 upclose.

Jeff Finley

Oh wow. Gozer *was* played by Olivia Wilde. Good catch.

Andrew T

That's why the top section of the page is about how people sync their videos. Most people are watching Cassie's reaction from this Patreon site and another video of the actual movie being reacted to. Look through that section and there are so many different ways people are watching.

Mike LL

copyright issues. You can't show a whole movie on Youtube, Vimeo, etc. And it states before you sign up that you have to have your own copy to follow along.

Philip Alan

Just subbed. Why are the videos blurred? :(

Jamie Norris

Yes. It is a Steven King movie.

Darryl Chandler

This was alot better. Great job in your setup.

Darryl Chandler

I mean... isn't this exactly what they did with the sequel trilogy? The way they frame the new generation and their relationship to the barely remembered legends of the old is strikingly similar. The biggest difference is this one doesn't trip over its shoelaces in the last act.

Robin T

I haven't seen this one yet. I want to see it first before watching Cassie's reaction.

G

Imagine if Disney had made the Sequel Trilogy like that instead of what they ended up doing.

Patrick Blondin

*checks to see if Chris is wearing shoes*

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Well, I only can say that I didn't like the 2016 version at all. 😊

Chris Lüders

Awesome watch!!! I definitely got "the feels" with the end.

Doc Savage

You aren't! I like this one, but definitely thought the 2016 movie was slightly better thanks to consistency (this new one was great for the first 2/3 and then the ending didn't work for me).

Tyler Foster

it was ok . i didnt mind it either

Mike Lipke

Cujo (the movie about the killer dog) is a real movie!

hurryupmode

I think I might be the only person in the world who enjoyed the 2016 version more than this one :S *ducks airborne shoes*

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Enjoyed your theatrical watchalong, though I was a little sad you weren’t able to include the 2 end credit scenes. I would have loved to see your reaction! I do understand your reason though. In early 2020, my brother-in-law told me that they filmed this near his family farm in Drumheller, Alberta during summer 2019. (I lived and worked near there in the early 90s). Just got this from the web: “Principal photography for the film began mid-July 2019 in Calgary, with shooting on-location in Drumheller and surrounding areas — including Dorothy, Horsethief Canyon, and Bleriot Ferry — along with Fort Macleod beginning shortly thereafter in July and August…”

David Olden

Jon Johns, to be fair, Egon was semi transparent and blue, so they had some wiggle room. LOL Tarkin and Leia had to be more "real life" so I think it is judged a little more harshly.

Todzilla

Also, Cassie is correct. In the US and Canada, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be widely available for digital rental and released on 4K/Blu-ray/DVD on February 1st. The UK gets it one day earlier on the 31st. Other countries may vary (it doesn't even open theatrically in Japan until February 5th!).

Tyler Foster

Still amazes me how you can walk into a movie theater with all that camera and sound equipment 😄 Love the improvements. Lighting is definitely better. Some warble in the sound pickup but way better than before. Thanks for going through all this effort. Definitely unique among movie reactors.

Mr Jordan

So is the consensus that this worked in a technical sense? I don't have this movie yet.

Carol_White

When Cassie sees the mini stay puffts 🤣😂 Well done on the audio, this was a great theatre reaction ✌️

DerekJ

Fun fact: McKenna Grace, the young girl that played Phoebe, wrote and sang the end credit song. (the one that comes after "Ghostbsters"). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diu0bpqhUNI

RX2904

Podcast.. definitely my favorite new addition to the franchise!!

Andrew Rose

Everything about this was perfect, thanks Cassie! Podcast has to be a close relative of Vern from Stand By Me. 😁

Gideon James

I know it's controversial (already one person in this comment thread naysaying) and I've mentioned it in comments before, but I have been a fan of this series since I was a kid and I really hope you also do the 2016 movie to close out these reactions. You might not enjoy it as much as these ones, but I think it's good as well (and, personally, better than both II and this one, even if I like both of them fine). Looking forward to watching this, although I just watched the film over the weekend with some other friends and I don't know if I'm ready to watch it again so soon. Hopefully the YT edit goes up soon.

Tyler Foster

In 2016, Rick Moranis explained in The Hollywood Reporter that he declined to cameo in the reboot because he didn't want to do cameos in anything, he wanted a substantial role. Same thing held true for this one, but he agreed to be in a Disney+ sequel to Honey I Shrunk the Kids called Shrunk because I imagine he's the second lead behind Josh Gad (playing one of the kids, grown up).

Tyler Foster

Very nice reaction, Cassie, and I'm amazed that this really was possible in a theatre. I would have thought they would be too worried about you recording the film instead only your reaction, but all the nicer that they allowed it. 😉 It's a very good and cute movie although it's a little bit more 'scary' than the original from 1984, but I really liked it. Of course I missed Rick Moranis but maybe he didn't want to be part of the movie, who knows. And of course a short sequence with Slimer would have been nice, but certainly he belongs to New York City and not Oklahoma. 😁 It was nice to see how they put Harold Ramis in the movie and how they portrayed the reunion of the 'old gang'. 😊 And finally of course I'm curious if there will be a sequel, but considering the flashing red on the ghost container, it's quite possible. 👻😄

Chris Lüders

You know, after Rogue One, and the sketchy CGI characters they added there, I thought Egon looked fantastic. Color me impressed.

Jon Johns

Great reaction as always. I enjoyed watching this one again. It was a great bookend to the other films. The sound was much better this time with the lav mic, big improvement over the in theater Dune reaction. Looking forward to the Spiderman reaction when you do get around to posting it. 👍

Brian Jones

thank you so much for saying that!! ❤️❤️❤️

Cassie

Although this film is light years better than that 2016 version (please never watch that LOL), I still feel they squandered the original cast. I understand the OG cast couldn't be in the whole thing, but they should have fleshed out more of what made them come back, etc. Again, not a bad movie, but could have been much better.

Todzilla

For me it was when the little girl fired up the Proton Pack for the first time outside to test it. I was in a Dolby ATMOS theater and the sound and feel was amazing. The Proton Pack to Ghostbusters, is the Millennium Falcon to Star Wars.

Todzilla

I saw this in theaters and don't have my own copy to watch this full reaction today, but I previewed parts of this and I am amazed. How in the world were you able to filter the movie sound out and isolate just your comments? Amazing. This is a technical marvel and just technically speaking, you are miles ahead of the reactor community. Congratulations!

MikeLL

I went up to where they were filming the sheriff office scene trying (didn't know it was two locations at the time) to catch a glimpse of ecto-1 or Rudd (who would take the time for photos with the locals). Didn't see any one when I was there but it was cool to see a real town changed a little and used as a movie set. Looking forward to this later today, AB❤️☮️

DerekJ

Haha yeah I realize that later. Not sure why I thought that 🤦🏼‍♀️

Cassie

The moment that got me was when we saw Ray, Peter and Winston lined up firing their proton packs and the camera pans to show ghost Egon standing right next to them. I'm not ashamed to admit that I got choked up seeing that.

Patrick Egan

Dan Aykroyd is still with us.

Allen Bond

Love the effort you guys put into a Popcorn in Theatre edition. I can imagine the technical side of it must be a journey to figure out. I just watched this movie, so I think I'll save it for a little later or maybe catch the YT version. Love the movie choices on this channel.
