I rented it on Apple TV in Canada.

Myles Away

you can watch it on amazon prime using french VPN but unfortunately with no English subtitles.

Unfortunately, this movie is in a bit of a rights gap at the moment, so you will not find it on streaming. The DVD was very popular and it should be easy-ish to track down a used copy for a decent price.

Obviously there's a mountain of foreign-language films to dig into, but a couple good followups to this I think you should keep in your back pocket... "A Very Long Engagement," which reunites the director and star of Amelie for a more straight-forward story of a woman searching for her fiance in the aftermath of WWI, and "In July," a German romcom road trip movie.

Robin T

Yes! I recommended this movie back in October! Such a great movie. It's very unique and yes I'm sure her and Carly would both love it

Katie Jackson

I must have started the snowball rolling. Just last week I recommended Pleasantville and Peggy Sue Got Married! Both are great "decompress" movies after watching something like Triumph of the Spirit (1989) or The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008)

Michael Threapleton

Did anyone find a streaming version anywhere?

Gideon James

Yes! Muriel's Wedding/Priscilla would be an awesome ABBA double feature.

Jen Barnes

Add Priscilla the Desert Queen to that mix - more great ABBA songs as a bonus

Jens Pouplier

Just curious, are you the same Zap as the one on the other site I've been at for years? Are my worlds colliding?

Mike Lemon

She would love it! It’s an awesome movie. On that note…she’d probably like Peggy Sue Got Married as well.

Krusty “Topher”

I'd like to recommend Pleasantville (1998) starring Toby Maguire, Reese Witherspoon, Jeff Daniels and William H. Macy. I know we say this all the time, but I KNOW you'll love it.

Zapp Rowsdower

Seconding Strictly Ballroom and ante-ing up to add the rest of Baz Lurhmann's Red Curtain Trilogy, including Moulin Rouge. I think you'll really get a kick out of it!

Rue

Recommend 90s Aussie rom-coms: Muriel's Wedding & Strictly Ballroom. Also - 90s Japanese rom-com "Shall We Dance?"

Rose

perfect movie for you two. lol, I thought it was good CC was a bit fast for a slow reader like me had to go back to catch what I missed. need to watch twice once for just the visuals.

I say what Bong Joon-ho said: “Once you overcome the one-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films."

Opti_Frog

See I'm the exact opposite, but I am a really quick reader so I've never even noticed subtitles making a difference. I even use subtitles with American television, haha. There's just something about hearing the actor's voices that makes it a lot better. The dubs for Squid Game were awful, but I feel like they're usually not that bad. Sometimes (usually for TV/movies in Spanish) they even have the same actors do the dubs and that's always great. It's so interesting how we all enjoy entertainment differently, but all that matters is that we enjoy it. :)

Now that you’ve seen Amélie I highly recommend you watch Jean-Pierre Jeunet‘s other movies with his art and codirector Marc Caro, Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children..

Tarek Sursock

This made my entire day! Thank you <3

Absolutely. Contextual expressions (as well as sayings that rhyme) usually only apply to a single language or even specific cultures in the same language. For instance, I’m fluent in French but the Canadian version not the France version. There are lots of expressions that the French have which are completely foreign to me even though I understand all the words in it.

Patrick Blondin

This one is a bit broad but are there any play on words or idioms that might only make sense and/or be funnier in French? Lots can be lost in translation.

Myles Away

I speak both French and English so I’m down for questions if you have any.

Patrick Blondin

Random FYI, my niece is named after this movie. I haven't watched it and will probably wait and watch it someday with my niece when she is older. She is 2 so this wouldn't be all that appropriate for her to watch just yet lol
