As Cassie is a Harrison Ford fan now - she needs to see Regarding Henry

Happy Hanukkah

It's quiet in Cassie world. Too quiet.

I read that book last year. Good thing they didn't incorporate everything from the book in the movie. Decker going around being jealous of his neighbour who has a horse (real/replica?), and whining about the fact, that he hasn't an animal, just would have ruined the movie. LOL A cat, if I could have a cat... no a mouse, just a mouse. If I could just have a mouse. LOL Just wouldn't fit the image of Decker in the movie :)

Lol it's pronounced how it's spelled, so probably how you think it's pronounced.😉

Sahitya

Cassie posted this week that it would be Ben Hur, Dances With Wolves and Amelie (the last two with Carley). But she could change at her discretion.

Mr Jordan

I don't know! But I'd like to know how to properly pronounce your name! 😉

Jon Johns

Is Dances of Wolves today? Or Maverick?

I know this, Dick's a fantastic author, High Castle is one of my favourites. Scott's idea was to combine the universes (in the 90s or 2000s), it wasn't the original plan, but it's been his plan for some time now.

James Little

Dan O Bannon wrote Alien, Philip K Dick wrote Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep - Maybe Scott wanted them in the same universe,... but I doubt the two authors worked to make that happen when they wrote their books. Both are dystopian futures however, so I guess its possible.

Blade Runner was based on "Do Androids dream of Electric sheep" by Philip K Dick. I read it years ago and it was a hard read for a teenager. The reason why they (replicants) were implanted with memories is because they only were made with 4 year life spans,... and not having memories would make them mentally unstable (all told in first movie). Animals (and anything organically grown - for example wood - its why the guy trying to identify the wood says that Joe is rich for having a REAL wooden toy - its the wood not the toy thats expensive) are almost completely extinct, so synthetic manufactured animals are the norm, real ones are super expensive (worth more than a car or house - only the very wealthy could afford real animals - explained in better detail in the book). The whole world is dystopian in nature. In the original movie/book - Tyrell wanted to make Deckard doubt his own humanity and reality - its ambiguous in the first movie - but since only Rachael had no shelf life (no life span of 4 years) he (Deckard) is a human, otherwise he would have died by now,... Deckard's daughter was a genius at making memories for other replicants, so when she made them, she gave a part of herself to the replicants she was making memories for (which is why Joe "remembered" those particular memories - and the other replicants talk about having such strong memories - they all wanted them to be real),... being born meant that even though she was conceived by a replicant (Rachael) she would have no serial numbers - isolating her could possibly help protect her from being found - the illness is probably real, but also ambiguous. Joe's memories were hers somehow from when she was a child, otherwise she couldnt have found the wood toy. (that doesnt make sense though to me - how could she be isolated and be in that orphanage as well). Part of the concept of the book was about would a manufactured synthetic human implanted with memories or feelings know that they were synthetic. Are we living in someone elses dreams,... is this all a fantasy or reality - the whole concept is supposed to be a mind trip.

Fun fact: Blade Runner and Alien are set in the same universe. Originally Scott's plan was to merge the two storylines and have an epic sci-fi saga about what it means to truly live and the difference between life and death as a god or a slave. If you look up "Roy Batty Prometheus" you can see concept art for Roy on the Prometheus expedition, something he's thinking about during the "tears in rain" speech from Blade Runner. In the special features of the Prometheus blu-ray there's an email between Tyrell and Weyland arguing over what it means to be a god and who's designs were better, the replicants or the androids. Blomkamp's Alien 3 remake was finally going to connect these two worlds, with replicants, xenomorphs, Ripley, Hicks, colonial marines and blade runners all sharing the screen. Although this plan hasn't been realised yet (with Alien put on hold and who-knows-when BR3 will come out) they still officially share share the same universe. Also: David Bowie was supposed to portray Wallace, but sadly he died before filming began, so Jared Leto stepped in at the last minute, following Bowie's notes on how to play the character (including wearing contacts that actually made him blind on set! He didn't see anything of the film/set/costumes until the premiere)
