Rogue One - Full Reaction

Hey everyone! Here is the full reaction to Rogue One! This is in my top two of all the SW movies I have seen so far! I loved the placement of the story right before IV and how it told that story. It was a very hard ending for me though :( I don't want to spoil to much in these posts, so I've added chapters to the video if you want to jump to the review! Hope you guys are having a great week!

Rogue One - Full Reaction

Comments

Gotta watch Andor, it's incredible my favorite star wars since Rogue one, which is my favorite star wars since original trilogy! Fun fact this was my first movie experience for star wars and I loved it, saw it 3x.

JohnnyUtah

Awesome reaction and movie. “ANDOR” (2022) (1-season, 12 episodes) (RT 96%, IMDb 8.4) (Nominee Emmy® Award for Outstanding Drama Series) (prequel to Rogue One) is the best Star Wars series IMO, even better than The Mandalorian that I very much liked. From Disney website: The “Andor” series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Clay F

Finally watched the full version of this. It always makes me cry ugly tears because Star Wars was the first nerd thing my dad and I shared (I was four or five) and it always makes me miss him, even though we never got to share it. I've never seen anyone who didn't know to expect them all dying, so this was interesting and I felt so bad for you!

China Andronicus

Say what you want, but Cassie remembered all their names including a few of the bit players who only showed up near the end. The movie does a fantastic job of establishing a huge ensemble cast in a way that makes us care about all of them, far more than we usually care about the third or fourth name down a normal movie's cast list. I still think Admiral Raddus is one of the best characters in all of Star Wars. And RIP Blue Leader.

Jeff Richman

I know I'm several days late, but to provided the added context that Luke leads a rebel squadron known as Rogue Squadron in the time between Episode 4 and 5 because he learns about Rogue One and does it in homage to their sacrifice.

Stephen O

I saw Rogue One a few days after Carrie Fisher passed away - it made that final scene especially powerful.

John Drake

Personally RotS will always be my favorite but this Rogue One is definitely up there. Probably my second or third.

CanadianNinja

One of the purposes of making all characters die in this film is for us to understand how much the rebels were struggling against all the odds and how hard it was to get the plans as they point out in Episode IV. Another is to "fill in inconsistencies" that people pointed out since the 70s. If you felt Anakins turn was too sudden, you might want to see certain episodes of the animated clone wars since it further develops some key characters story and personality. The last season is gold and in my opinion the last 4 episodes of that season is the best star wars content ever made. Don't feel ashamed you liked this movie more than others, its many people's favourite.

Strauss

I always do, no point in posting otherwise

Patrick Flanagan

But tell us how you really feel.

Colin Gutierrez

You're right, these characters are AMAZING and this is definitely a universe which needs morose and gritty stabs at "realism"

Patrick Flanagan

So many bad takes in one post. Amazing.

aarswft

Thanks Cassie. If you follow the series order by date, then I think.....imagine episode three of steroids.

Matt Mabry

I have to say, this is an odd take on STAR WARS for me. These movies always felt larger than life, colorful and hopeful. I've never understood why fans want to shrink the world down to make it "relatable" and more dismal and bleak. I love the escapism of the original films.

Patrick Flanagan

I think this is half of a good movie. The beginning is really slow for me, but the pacing picks up considerably once the mission proper gets going. I just don't really think this feels like a STAR WARS movie. It reminded me more of old war or action movies from the 1960s/1970s, most obviously THE DIRTY DOZEN. I never really bought into the concept of the movie, which was "How did the Rebels get the plans for the Death Star?" The moviemakers almost seem to feel like this is some great unsolved mystery which has haunted STAR WARS since 1977. How did get the plans? Spies. Not sure if there's a need beyond that. Why is their a weakness in the Death Star? Incompetence. Not sure if we need a layer of explanation added to that. Beyond the robot (Alan Tudyk from FIREFLY and many other things) the characters didn't really grab me. The movie is shot pretty well, especially the battle scenes at the end. I just feel a little puzzled as to why exactly so many people latched onto this one as "STAR WARS done right!" when it feels a lot grayer and more dismal and defeatist in tone than STAR WARS ever should. Also, the CGI grave robbing with Peter Cushing's images is borderline despicable.

Patrick Flanagan

By far the best Star Wars movie after the original trilogy. I may be a callous old cynic but I like that some movies don't end happily. What's the point of movies if you know the "hero" is gonna be alive and get the girl/guy in every movie? I wonder what Peter Cushing (Guvernor Tarkin), who died in 1994, would think if he knew he would have a big role in a movie 25 years after his death? :-D

Tobias Eiken

Or save yourself the disappointment, skip the new trilogy too and go straight to the Mandalorian.

MAFAL

Great movie reaction. Lets not watch Solo and skip to The Force Awakens.

Gideon James

Great ensemble of award winning actors and screenwriters. Anything is better than Hayden Christensen’s acting.

Aaron

This is great! Thanks for sharing

Johnny

The ending is rough, but luckily it inspired one of the best How It Should Have Ended ever made - guaranteed to make you feel better! https://youtu.be/RjR71XpAu0I

Robin T

One of the best movies ever made in my opinion, I wish all the new disney movies were one of spins like this they had an entire universe to work with.

Shawn Walsh

Wonderful reaction Cassie! I was weeping with you. I always enjoy experiencing films with you as you see them for the first time and fall in love with the stories I've cherished for more than 40 years. Saw this at midnight opening day with about a dozen friends. I immediately popped in my copy of "A New Hope" when I got home and stayed up until 6:00am. The two films blend together perfectly, and it explains why Vader was furious when he boarded the Blockade Runner rather than the icy calm we see him display through most of the other films. The writers took one line from the text crawl of the original film and made magic! "It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire’s sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy…." It's brilliant!

Sean Novack

Taken in context with Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Saw Guerrera is one of the most interesting characters in the entire saga. Here is just such a human example of what War can do to someone. He goes from idealistic patriot just trying to protect his home and family into a man who is just as evil as anyone in the Empire. His entire perspective, entire person even is shaped by the war he fights. Long before he eventually dies, he is a casualty of war.

KTVindicare

Welcome to the fam! We bicker just like a real family, too! Come join us on Discord for lively discussions ;-)

Jon Johns

Rogue One is the only Disney Star Wars movie that's any good, But they made The Mandalorian too so I can't hate on them too much.

Richard Maurer

And that scene is why Darth Vader's only competition for GOAT movie villain is Hannibal Lecter. Man I love this one, this and The Mandalorian really renewed my love for this franchise. They brought it back to great storytelling and characters, the other films seemed to overreach, try too hard, this one they knew exactly what they were going for, it's a space adventure story, not a merchandizing opportunity. Hoping Cassie watches the Mandalorian eventually so I have an excuse to watch it yet again. I think maybe Jyn was named after Qui Gon Jinn but the spelling is different so probably not, that would be a cool little touch though if she was. Like if Cassie's middle name just happened to be Anne, I'd say another great reaction by Captain Cassie Anne Popcorn, made my day as always!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Rogue One is a very special Star Wars movie for me for two (2) reasons. One - it is the first time I got to treat my father to a Star Wars film instead of the other way around. Two - If viewed as a Part 1 to A New Hope it is deeply moving (almost spiritual) in nature. “Hope” is the theme of this movie and one doesn’t usually need a lot of hope until it is the only thing left. These ‘Rebel Spies’ retrieved the Death Star plans just to get it off the planet. From there, it goes to a princess that is captured by Darth Vader. However, thanks to her, the plans (and a message of hope) now resides within a droid that miraculously ends up with an old man who is watching over the son of its former master. Wow. Problem solved? No, because despite this fatal flaw in Death Star’s design and everything we’ve sacrificed up to this point, there is still only ONE being in the entire galaxy that can make this shot… His name is Luke, the Force is strong in his family and the droid happens to be riding shotgun with this teenager to save the galaxy. None of that could have happened without Jyn and Cassian and an army of believers like Chirrut and Baze. Gawd, I love it! This film is about hope, but taken in full context of the entire story, it’s also about having faith. Great Reaction, Cassie!

Ike

I think we all laughed a little nervously when you obviously were so excited for this one and said you wanted a win. lol This is probably the best Star Wars movie made during the Disney era, IMO. It's near perfect in my book....the ending is kind of hard to take though, obviously - especially after spending 2 hours getting to know these characters. Even after Episode 7, it kind of felt like Disney knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, it's been downhill ever since. At least the Mandalorian is setting things on the right path and I know you're going to love that show.

inpham0us

This was a fun reaction video. I enjoyed it when I first saw it, and rewatching with Cassie was a lot of fun - I knew she'd really like it.

Johnny

Yes! The new canon.

Michael Hawk

This was an amazing reaction as usual Cassie! It’s fun to see you dive back into a universe you are always so interested in; it’s interesting to see the extra bloodlust for the antagonist you’ve developed since just a year ago 😝 I love this movie but it’s rough for me too. But for me, it tells an important lesson about how we live in a world that is built on tops of countless people that are no longer here and have huge stories themselves. Also, war is terrible, regardless the side. People are forced to awful things and ENC SW DV Rush said, there isn’t nobility in war. I’ve seen this movie a few times and every time it gets me. Thanks for this one 😊

MattN

This is why I rarely go by reviews, movies are too subjective, and why I won’t tell people a movie is bad, just that I didn’t like it. Rogue one is probably my 2nd favourite SW movie behind ep5. I’ve seen Solo twice, but Rogue One 6 or 7 times. The only thing I enjoyed about ep1-3 was the last half of 3, but that’s it. It’s great that everyone has their favourites, and that they’re different, it’s all about what each person gets out movies they watch, about what touches them.

James Hadden

this 100%

MattN

Sure. This time they (or at least Kennedy) picked a director who actually loved Star Wars (Rian Johnson does not) and who has creative talent (JJ Abrhams does better with his own ideas, or else seems only capable of copying and butchering the source material). The prequel trilogy has the spine of a great story, but as Marcia Lucas, George's ex says, "George doesn't understand humans." The dialogue was terrible.

Michael Hawk

I thought it was good but way overrated. Again, in no way bad, but way way WAY overrated. My biggest measuring stick is , "how often have I watched it?" or how often have I gone, "I really need to watch it again." I saw it in theaters and haven't since, and haven't really wanted to either. Ive watched Solo 3 or 4 times and liked it far better and seen the original 6 probably a dozen times since Rogue One came outI saw this reaction came out and bought it in iTunes to add to my collection and watch along with you

Andrew Hansen

Fear not Cassie, we will get an opportunity to revisit at least Cassian Andor's story as he's getting a prequel TV series.

Wes Stewart

the reuse of the old footage with different backgrounds is one of my favourite nods to episode IV. It looks so clean, they took the time and effort for such a small thing.

Wreckingballryan

5) I'm pretty sure the quote is in Episode 6 and is "Many Bothans died to bring us this information." Mon Mothma was not in Episode 4. But that makes me wonder if there's a story out there about the Bothans. Also, in my interpretation, I think Chirrut is a force user. He just hasn't had any Jedi training or possibly any Force training. But I believe his perception and his ability to sense danger and enemy moves during a fight is because of his attunement to the Force. But I could be wrong. It's just something I like to think. :-)

Marty McGee

K2SO (The reprogrammed droid is voiced by Alan (Wash from Firefly) Tudyk.

Chris Reise

Sweet!!! Been looking forward to this reaction! 🇨🇦 ❤️ ✌️

DerekJ

During the battle over Scarif, Red 5 crashes,... so Luke can take the moniker of Red 5 when he destroys the Death Star in Ep 4

ENC SW DV Rush

The biggest difference between this movie and other Star Wars movies is that this shows that NO ONE is all good or evil in their actions in war, and that with the exception of Darth Vader,... there are no Jedi or lightsabers in the movie - its about normal creatures who are not force users,.... and yes, there are tie ins to the other stories, but there is great character development in this one.

ENC SW DV Rush

1) Kyber crystals are used as conduits and power sources for the light sabers, and used in an evil way with powering the Death Star. The Whills were guardians of the Temple. 2) At the beginning, in Jedha, Jinn runs into the same two that threatened Luke in the Mos Eisley cantina (Obi Wan cuts off the one guys arm). 3) Bail Organa is the Senator from Alderaan and Princess Leia is his adopted daughter. 4) Saw Gererra is a character from the Clone Wars animated series and some of the video games. 5) In Star Wars: A New Hope Senator Mon Mothma makes the statement before the battle to destroy the Death Star that "Many rebels died for this information. This is their story. 6) Every Star Wars movie that I know of makes two statements at some point in the movie "I have a bad Feeling about this" and "May the Force be with you" 7) Two characters in the movie were CGI - Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia.

ENC SW DV Rush

Yes, it is a tragedy,... but we couldnt spoil it for you. A few things,

ENC SW DV Rush

You were caffeinated, we were Cassienated! 😉

Rich Mcclure

One of yes. However for me the absolute best was Darth maul's fight scenes.

Michael Lynch

This is the best thing to come out of the Disney era. Fun fact, they used recycled footage from A New Hope during the initial assault on Scarif when you said it reminded you of the first one.

Pokemasterflex

really? ohhhh man, I have to see the movie again....and maybe again to be sure...hahahahaha any excuse is good for a fun rewatch!

salim alvarez

There used to be this amazing place in Las Vegas and Downtown Disney called The VOID where you could do a virtual reality walk through of Star Wars. K2SO and Casian were both there (portrayed by their original actors) and you even got to face off against Darth Vader! The experience had you wear a visor, vest, and headphones that made you see yourself and the rest of your group as Rebel spies disguised as Stormtroopers. You carried prop laser blasters (that looked REAL through the visor) and when you got hit by a blaster bolt or Vader deflected your own shots, you could actually feel it through the vest! Sadly, all VOID attractions closed down in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic - although I just learned a new attraction called Sandbox VR is filling in the spot. I really hope someone salvages the VOID's attractions somehow - they had a Ghostbusters attraction, Wreck It Ralph, Marvel Superheroes, and even a Jumanji attraction where you got to become the different characters (I turned into Jack Black!) If you ever get the chance to do this, Cassie, go for it!

Michael Jung

This film shows that Disney CAN do Star Wars right - it's better than any of the Prequels, in my opinion.

Raj K. Dixit

A greatexample of two characters that you loved, both played by the same talented actor, Alan Tudyk. K-2SO in Rogue 1 and Wash in Firefly. All you need to do now is see Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Ben Chapman in 42 and you'll realize that he is really one of the most versatile character actors there is!

Alan Kobb

How many of you all noticed the millennium falcon.? I didn’t catch it the first time but my son did. Cassie, just to add to you disdain for Darth, my son says the “canon” says Palpateen siphoned Padme’s life force to keep Aniken alive. That’s why she lost the will to live but the “doctors “ didn’t know why!

Steven Ashford

This is the best star wars movie

TinCan Cosmanaut

"I am highly caffeinated." I look at an empty energy drink can. Me too!

Michael Hawk

...who is this for?

aarswft

Cassie at this point Darth Vader is still finding and searching how to bring Padme back, the suit the mask helps him be alive, the only time when his out of the suit is when his in the “bacta tank” which helps him heal & meditate. You have to remember he doesn’t have all his limbs, all that he has are his body torso.

FranciscoGios

I think it goes without saying that Disney’s handling of the franchise has been…uneven to say the least. On the one hand, you have the mainline movies, of which opinions are divided at best, and one the other, you have Rogue One and the Mandalorian, which have garnered almost universally positive reactions. It does have a melancholic feel for me for reasons completely unrelated to the movie itself; I first saw this right after finding out we’d lost Carrie Fisher.

Texas Anla'Shok

This is a movie I don't care much for but I loved seeing your reaction. Speaking of Firefly, K2SO was played by Alan Tudyk aka Wash the pilot of Serenity :)

Cody Nelson

Finally she can start watching The Mandalorian :-)

SOG78

And The Mandalorian, of course, although that isn't a movie.

TwistedMagoo

Hey guys, just joined in here, so, Hi! Rogue one is a contender for the best Star wars film IMO, I think it is just fantastic :)

PatCecil

I really appreciate this movie even more now than when it was released...because it is clearly very difficult to recapture what made the original movies great...and of the 'modern era' ones, Rogue One was by far the closest.

TwistedMagoo

I felt I little sorry for you at the beginning when you said you needed a win. And I think you were expecting a happy ending. But really glad you liked it, as it’s one of my favourites. And Chirrut & Baze are amazing characters.

Dean Holt

I HATE the new star wars (vii-ix) but I'm excited to watch them with Popcorn. They will never be canon in my opinion. They're just "fan" made legends set in star wars universe. Let's start watching the Mandalorian together soon Pop!

Snapjaw

K is voice by the pilot from Firefly

MatthewBrown74m

And that good gentlefolks is why Rogue One is the best of the Disney era movies (so far). Sure there was more than a little fan service paid but it fleshed out so much of the story that we love and made us care more about a droid than any of the new characters in the sequel trilogy ever did and I love it

no_gary_only_zuul

The thing is, they made a star wars movie that looked real, had characters you quickly understood, and felt connected to, with a fairly simple plot, and a very good pace. This only shows how bad the bad ones are...

Jon Johns

All really great characters! I don’t think anybody has mentioned it, but at least Cassian is supposed to be getting a prequel series so you get more of his back story (though considering how he talks about his past, it’s probably not going to be very “uplifting.” I grew up with the original trilogy, but this became my favorite because the tone really exemplifies what makes Star Wars stand out for me as a setting, bits of of hope in a relatively quite bleak world. They went on a suicide mission and knew it, I enjoy movies that the good guys get away against all odds but it’s rare to see the more believable outcome.. even if they finish the mission, people tend to die on missions when they are entirely outnumbered and desperate. Also matches up with realizing that when those 2 Star destroyers collided.. they each have crews of almost 50,000. It’s more of a war movie than a fantasy adventure like the other Star Wars, and wars are pretty horrific even when the good (or less bad) side is winning.

RocktSurgeon

Came here to say that.

cartoonrobot

Thanks for the fun Tuesday night movie! I feel like you now need to go on the World Wide Web and read about all the Easter eggs and character appearances that show up, that you missed. You clocked Senator Organa though 👍🏻 I have to say working on this Star Wars film was a dream come true, and I lived out a childhood fantasy. Being an ‘Extra’ has given me access to some amazing experiences. I need to send you some screenshots of the scenes I was in.

Biggman83

I whispered to my date during the "I believe you" scene "this is a suicide mission" and I was really happy the director made it so. It was the best way to make this movie as impactful as it was without disrupting the timeline. What I didn't expect was how many of the rest of the Alliance had to die in space to make it happen. It makes the phrase "this is our most desperate hour" that Leia says in the iconic message, have so much more meaning behind it.

KTVindicare

Prof. Writhms

even though I didn't really like this one as it's basically a completely useless story where we know how it ends, I enjoyed rewatching it with ya. cheers cass

MetallicOpeth

I’m glad you liked the movie Cassie. Other than Ep 4-6, this is the one I rewatch the most.

JediLounger

One thing for me that I absolutely LOVE about this movie is the moment where Krennic looks up and sees the weapon he created about to kill him. It's a testament to mankind's ability to build weapons and how self destructive it ultimately is. Great choice by the director to keep that in the original theater cut.

KTVindicare

Actually. The "CGI" Leia was actually a doppelganger lookalike that was "slightly" adjusted to look more like Carrie Fisher. A bit of movie magic there. Grand Moff Tarkin was 100% CGI though.

KTVindicare

All my favorite characters. Casper, Bobo, Cheerio, Kranis. Don't worry, it was a common criticism at the time that despite how good the movie was, it was hard to remember their names.

aarswft

This is one of your best reactions to date. The youtube only folks dont know what they are missing by not seeing the entire movie with you.

KTVindicare

Can really feel the emotion at the end there. Was incredibly well done and that Vader scene was epic! Probably one of the best action sequences in all of Star Wars!

Josh Phillips

“I feel like we need a win”… oh no Cassie… this was not the movie for that.

djKENTO

The best Star Wars since 1980? for me yes! I love the characters, very different, atypical! the scene with Vader in the corridor is very iconic!

Grégory Gautier

by the by, k2so was voiced by alan tudyk, wash from firefly

Wu Sha Ling

Saw Gerrera was a guerilla fighter for the Rebellion. Unfortunately, after so much time in battle, and after losing men and loved ones, his tactics became bit too extreme for the Rebels. War has left him broken and very paranoid. He still fights the Empire, but he does it with his own men, without the support of the Rebels.

aarswft

I hope you watch Solo too! its not as bad as many people seem to think, it got a bad box office because the one that came out before was not well recieved by the audience in general

Strauss

I watched this with my boys in theater. First time I had to console them after watching a movie. They were really upset with the ending.

Steven Ashford

Fun bit of trivia. The droid K2SO is voiced by Wash from Firefly, Alan Trudyk who also incidentally happens to be one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

KTVindicare

I feel like this movie kept Disney’s Star Wars from crashing and burning and gave them enough time to salvage it with the mandalorian. Its definitely one of the best.

Alex Gorell

3rd best SW film for me behind IV and V. Solo and Return of the Jedi are the only other average or above average movies in the SW movies for me unfortunately.

JayF

Now I might have to leave work early to watch this. One of my favorite films 😄 Not sure if you noticed this because I've not had the chance to watch your reaction yet; but the actor who voiced K-2S0 was Wash from firefly

Ronny Boss

Perfect, I have nothing to do today.

David RedEagle

"I feel like we need a win". Oh you poor sweet innocent girl If you only knew the ending. Well you do now.

Brian McGovern

“This is in my top two of all the SW movies I have seen so far!” Mine as well! Empire strikes back is my other.

Krusty “Topher”

That was fast. Looking forward to this. It's by far the best Star Wars movie that Disney has made. I know you're going to love it.

KTVindicare

Woot! Was just looking for something to watch!
