Halloween - Full Reaction

Hey guys! I meant to get this up yesterday, sorry about that! Hope you enjoy. This one FREAKED me right out.. and not in a blood and guts kind of way, but the BUILD UP and sick and twisted-ness of him just fried all my nerves! Why could he not die? Why did she not leave the house with the kids after the hanger incident?

I'm going to be ok, don't you worry but yes, I threw my lip gloss to the roof I jumped so high at one point.

Hope you enjoy the reaction, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The reason why Michael was stalking Laurie is that he's essentially trying to kill his entire bloodline. It's later revealed that Laurie is Michael's half-sister.

Zane From Canada

"Next to a pumpkin?!" Asking the important questions... Lol

Chase Lonnergan

I saw this at a theatre in my college town. Some drunk kids coming down the alley started beating on the door at a very bad time and half the audience left in shock.

Vryce

This film is not only one of the best horrors but one of my top ten movies. I admire your bravery Cassie!!! If you are not too traumatised by this experience I would strongly recommend Halloween (2018). It is easily the best sequel. As I know you like a scare rating. I give this film 8/10 and (2018) a 7/10. Also Halloween Ends is my most anticipated movie this year, which will be out on October 14th!!! I hope they bring a satisfying and justifiable conclusion to this timeline!!!

ROBERT CLARK

My all time favorite Halloween movie. I was 11 when it came out but I think I saw it 3 years later when it was rereleased in theaters for Halloween. TOTALLY terrifying!!

Aerilon

Starting at about 47:50 your reaction is testament to how good this movie is. A shot of a dude on the other side of a glass door is genuinely unsettling!

James Kelly

found it, and I watched the reaction. It's fascinating how wide the screen is. It felt like time traveling back to a time when kids walked home from school. I don't want to research anything but I want to know where it was filmed. Okay, basically in LA. It looked like LA.

Em McG

I haven't seen this one. Hmm, now where can I stream it. It's worth it in a full reaction format.

Em McG

John Carpenter's The Thing is a great movie to watch.

Powers209

I like Season of the witch and it allows for Halloween to become more than just Myers.

Powers209

Ugh season of the witch is god awful. Doesn’t even have anything to do with micheal myers and it makes no sense. To each his own I guess.

brooke atkins

Thank YOU! Just finished watching your reaction and thought it was Awesome! I remember hearing about people going to see this in the theatre and getting terrified just from the music in the opening credits. This is definately a must see if you like scary movies. Another movie you may like is called True Lies with Jamie Lee Curtis, a pretty kewl action/comedy movie from the 90's... Can't wait for your next one!

Gary Quick

Season of the Witch is one of the only good sequels in my opinion. All of the other ones featuring Michael Myers are pretty ridiculous. Season of the Witch continues with the tone of the original Halloween where the others just turned into typical shlock.

Myles Away

Love your reaction. Are you going to continue with the franchise. Season of the Witch is my least favorite of them all.

HorrorFan87

Great reaction Cassie. Glad to see this movie still holds up. If you really want to continue with this franchise, do yourself a favor and skip all these other movies and go directly into “Halloween” (2018) which is the direct sequel to this Halloween (1978). Then go ahead and watch the one from this year, “Halloween Kills”, which you can stream on Peacock.

Joe M

I'd seen bits of this film before. I'm glad that you got through it and your are continuing to challenge yourself. Personally I've never understood the appeal of these types of films. I never watched them as a kid or even a teenager. Any time I've watched one of these "must see classics" from my 20's till now. I've never found most of them remotely scarey or captivating. I will admit to really liking the first Scream film. Partly because of its brilliant self-awareness. I do however appreciate how this subset of a much larger scary movie genre, can attract a rather large audience. But on the whole they just just aren't for me. I do find the fun in watching them with a reaction though. Which is why I've been ticking a few off the "some day I'll watch that" list this month.

Daryl

Ok that was just terrific. I don't know anyone that has visceral reactions like you do. It's amazing to say the least. I've seen all these movies many times and watching with you is a whole new ballgame. Thanks, and don't forget to look behind the curtains before you go to bed.

softshoes

An annual Halloween must-watch! The later installments explore some kind of supernatural element to the Shape's 'power'. I think the no explanation sort makes it more terrifying- and yea I'd say it's scarier than "The Shining" since some of the more mundane elements (prowling, stalking, etc) are very believable and can be grounded in reality. Happy Halloween!

LMrcs

Also, put in a dub of Michael Myers shouting "Yeah, baby!" when he stabs someone.

Michael Jung

"Michael Myers? Isn't that the Canadian Austin Powers guy?" Someone should totally do an edit of Halloween but replace the iconic spooky music with the Austin Powers theme song.

Michael Jung

Game One belongs to Atlanta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chop this house Braves country.🪓🪓🪓

William Bryan

omg scawwwwwy

Michael Baxley

Complete agreement. It's like all her followers have gained a true friend. Her kindness and innocence is certainly something this pessimistic cynical guy needed.

William Bryan

Fun Fact: Meyers' mask had to be replaced almost at the start of production so they grabbed a few rubber Captain Kirk masks, turned them inside out and trimmed them up a little.

Sabrecho

You know.....if you go into a room, turn off the lights, stand in front of a mirror, and say "Michael Myers four times.......LOL

Tipper1994

The mask was a "William Shatner" mask...LOL

Tipper1994

Halloween pretty much originated that trope, and did it in a much better way than the "slasher" wave it spawned. Micheal couldn't die because he literally was the boogeyman.

Richard Maurer

Cassie fun fact james camron loves Halloween so much it was his inspiration to make terminator lol no joke

MatthewBrown74m

Here we go.... first time since 1999!!!! Chop this house Braves country.🪓🪓🪓 #beattheastros

William Bryan

Cassie, I'm not sure you fully understand the impact you have on your viewer's lives. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite films. It takes me back to my childhood, I see the metaphors, hum along to the music. I've researched the making of the film and it's cast. Have the restored film in Ultra HD. I wear a pair of ruby slippers around the house. Ok, that's a lie. After some fifty years of having this story join my being, little could be added. But you, yes you have added a new line to the script I will never be able to erase. In the scene where the Lion, Tin Man and Scare Crow are climbing treacherous cliffs to rescue Dorothy. There is a moment, the Tin Man being pulled along by Lion, looses his footing. I will never watch that scene again without hearing your voice say "Man Down!" You've added a tickle to the experience. I've penciled you into the credits of a classic. I can't fathom the responsibility you assume. I'm now reaching into my bag and awarding you a feather in recognition of your service to bringing a little added chuckle to an otherwise average day.

Grinznmore

I'm sorry, I know the watch along is annoying. I wish we could just show the dang movie!

Cassie

hahaha this comment made me laugh! You are awesome!

Cassie

The build up is what makes it so much scarier to me!!

Cassie

hahahhaha yes exactly, smart boys :)

Cassie

Aww thank you so m uch Lamar, so thoughtful of you! I read your message, so sorry, SO slow at responding as I try to go in order but getting over 50 a day :o

Cassie

No. WAY!!!

Cassie

Well he hated people like me then-I LOVE closure, especially for something like this!

Cassie

Im glad you watched along with me to get in that halloween spirit this year :) "A horror convention?!?"

Cassie

No way, this is so interesting-He was the product of the demonic cult at 6 years old though? I guess I'll have to watch, but probably won't because I've heard the next ones are way scarier!

Cassie

Is that ever explained? Or just in the lore?

Cassie

I saw that, SO awesome

Cassie

So was this not the hockey mask guy? haha. So happy you are here Dustin

Cassie

I think you are right! No one knows why he does it, why he won't die!! Makes him scarier

Cassie

like a mask of his face?

Cassie

"but why?" John Carpenter: "Yes"

Wu Sha Ling

One of the greatest of all time. period.

Richard Maurer

Yea ... IF you watch The Thing, it's the Kurt Russell version u need to see, albeit it's nasty gory creepy scary.

3dbadboy1

You know all those logical, sensible questions you ask? Well, that's why there's the Scary Movie series lol.

3dbadboy1

tried watching it on the amc demand but after commercials and then skipping over sex scene i gave up. i rented beetle juice and the others since i forgot a lot of those movies and thought they would be fun watch alongs which they were

Sean Stuart

Cassie, I'm proud of you for remembering The Thing as a recommendation! The kids were watching the original 50's version though. Definite foreshadowing that John Carpenter would create his version of The Thing starring Kurt Rusell four years later! I would love to see you react to this but I understand if it may be too intense for you.

inpham0us

Try as I may, I couldn’t suspend disbelief enough to get remotely scared. You’re really going to drop the weapon, then turn your back to the maniac? Highlight was Cassie tipping her hand that a Jack-O-Lantern in the bedroom is a non-starter. Actually, I would just expand that to any holiday characters. Please, leave the turkey in the kitchen. So let’s recap. No chips in bed (Fargo), only one couple to a room (Fargo), leave any pumpkins on the porch (Halloween), don’t kiss like a lizard (Top Gun). Cassie, years of chick flicks has left you with almost unobtainable standards. Thanks for salvaging an otherwise horrific movie. Side note: PJ Soles who played the playful character Lynda, reprises her boundless sexual energy in Stripes with Bill Murray Sorry you’ll have to watch the film to find out what the Aunt Jemima treatment entails.

Grinznmore

I’ve sent you an early Christmas present. Arriving to the PO Box from Amazon Nov. 2. Please be on the lookout and please check your Patreon messages for explanation of gift and some other stuff.

Lamar Smith

Is it really just a movie though......? ;)

William Bryan

Good to know this film is still effective. Had friends say the movie isn't scary, too slow, nothing happening. I always loved the slow build up and tension in Halloween. Psycho, Black Christmas, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre set the foundation for "slasher" films but Halloween was the movie that really made the genre popular and profitable. Thanks for the reaction!

Nismo

The one reaction I waited all October for, and it didn’t disappoint! Thanks for the reaction, glad you enjoyed it for what it was and its effectiveness even after all these years. A true classic never goes out of style..

Ernesto Lopez

Halloween 2 was my second favorite until the new one came out three years ago. I think that one and Halloween Kills continue the story much better than Halloween 2 and H20.

William Bryan

That was the ORIGINAL "The Thing" that they are watching...ironically, John Carpenter is the guy who makes the remake.

Chris Reise

Halloween 2 by Carpenter picks up on the same night just as Michael was shot. The same characters that survived the first on reprise their roles. More of the background story is revealed.

Jason Mangen

And don’t forget the spray painted it white.

Jason Mangen

The "Hockey Mask Guy" is Jason Vorhees. The mask that Michael wears is (at least in THIS film) a William "Captain Kirk" Shatner mask turned inside out.

Chris Reise

I understand why people have a real soft spot for these original movies, but for me watching it for the first time in my 40s I found it a pretty average watch. It of course deserves huge credit for inspiring so many future movies but I feel it works best having not seen those first. Thanks to reaction channels, I’ve recently seen quite a few classic movies I’d never previously got around to watching. Psycho was a fantastic movie (despite already knowing the two main plot points from pop culture references). The Thing was also a great movie, loved that. The Shining has some great cinematography but I didn’t quite get all the hype. Oh, and also Rocky, now that one I do get all the hype, I thought it was excellent

James Hadden

I think the person she hated the most was the sick orderly who licked Sarah Conner's face in T2. You could see it in her eyes

William Bryan

Cassie: Next to a pumpkin?!?! Best line ever!

Jeremy Vickers

Norman Bates, Michael Myers, Jack Torrance. Cassie: "I hate him."

Alex Villarreal

It's been a great month, she did lots of great stuff and this was awesome. I had a similar experience, saw Alien when I was 3 but the creature didn't scare me. Ash's head coming off did though lol. I'm a hardcore horror veteran now, it's very rare that I get scared by anything, especially creatures. Jaws and the bear from Prophecy (1979) pulled it off though

Dustin Nelson

Michael Myers: Vanishes from the lawn at the end Cassie: Say sike right now!

You said you were glad you never this as a teenager. Imagine watching it at 5-6 years old. This was the first horror film I ever saw (watched it with my big sisters) and it petrified me, I couldn't sleep in the dark for years. But it ignited my love of horror films and I was a veteran by 12. However, it wasn't until 13-14 that I could revisit this, even after seeing all the mostly rubbish sequels and I was so proud of myself when I watched it again. You might think I'm mad but I love this film, if you can't admire it's content you can certainly admire it's craft. As a kid, a few things stuck with me. That breathing, particularly at the end, Sound is such a crucial element of horror, the mundane can become menacing with a little movie movie magic. And the shot of him standing in her garden when she looks out the window, that image haunted me. And the music, that iconic and unsettling music. God, I love it! "By a pumpkin" when Linda and Bob were in bed together gave me a real chuckle:) Kudos for stepping way outside your comfort zone this month, us horror lovers really appreciate it.

Jay

Halloween 2 (1981) had a pretty definitive end to the story of Michael Myers, Laurie Strode, and Dr. Sam Loomis (named after the boyfriend in Psycho). However, the producers/studio (NOT John Carpenter) wanted more money, and they made the crappy Halloween 4-6 to earn some quick cash off the name of Michael Myers. I will admit that Halloween 4 has some good moments, especially its ending. But I found 5 and 6 to be ridiculous and a disgrace to the story and to everything that made the 1978 movie great. Just my 2 cents.

Raj K. Dixit

Precious Cassie, I’ve sent you a gift. Arriving Nov 2 to PO Box from Amazon. Merry Early Christmas. If you threw your ubiquitous lip gloss to the roof, we know all we need to about how distressed you were. We cannot and should not but if we reduced you to just a few physical objects beyond the too obvious popcorn and bed, then lip gloss, blanket and a radiant smile (when not terrified) would very well suffice to sum you up. Please check your messages from me for an explanation of the gift.

Lamar Smith

Carpenter has stated that he doesn't want Michael Myers to be relatable, sympathetic, or comprehensible in any way - he's not human, he's PURE EVIL. Why did he go after Laurie? Because she was unlucky enough to walk by his house and catch his eye. Jamie Lee Curtis herself said that the horror of Halloween 1978 is the randomness of the violence - that there's nothing scarier than the idea that you could be marked for death by an evil killer out of the blue, for no reason other than that he felt like it, and that you happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Raj K. Dixit

Time line One: 1978, Halloween 2 (1981), Halloween 4-6.

Raj K. Dixit

Another Fun Fact: The knife Myers uses in 1978 is a Case and Sons 102-12 12" Blade Chef; a monstrous 17" antique that'll cost you $500+ largely due to this movie. I have a replica and it's an insane piece of hardware.

Dustin Nelson

All of the Michael Myers mask comments make me want to suggest "Baby Driver" if you haven't seen it. It's one of my favourite movies. I think you'd enjoy it a lot!

Janet Michelle

They are expensive as all get out, though....

Raj K. Dixit

If you really want closure, then you can always watch Halloween 2 (1981). It picks up right where this one ends and finishes out the night. Of course, it definitely ups the gore factor. Though Halloween was never meant to have a sequel. John Carpenter and Debra Hill straight up said the only reason they wrote and produced the second one was for money since they felt they got cheated out of most of the profits the first movie made. Fun fact, since the move was so low budget and they couldn't afford to make their own mask they literally went to the local costume store and bought a Captain Kirk mask. They tore off the sideburns, cut open the eye holes wider, messed up the hair, and spray painted it white. Anyway, loved your reaction! Happy Halloween Cassie :)

Cody Nelson

Why couldn't he die? Because he's a 70's/80's horror movie antagonist. You will see that as a common theme in these sort of movies that the main villain is a super human and you can't just shoot him dead or kill him with any sort of conventional means.

coreymcrann

Thought you might like this - here's an audio clip of an ORIGINAL audience reaction to the movie, from someone who brought a tape recorder into the theater with them way back in 1979. (Apparently this was popular to do in an era where people didn't even have VCRs yet and wanted to relive their movie experiences later.) It's been synced up with video footage of the film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GRSz1XNT-Q This was Jamie Lee Curtis' first movie and fortunately/unfortunately for her, it led to many more movies over the next five years, but all of them horror. After this she appeared in FIVE more horror movies all in a row: THE FOG, TERROR TRAIN, PROM NIGHT, ROAD GAMES, and then back for HALLOWEEN II. THE FOG was another John Carpenter film, and this time she got to act with her mom, Janet Leigh. Curtis was finally able to break out of the horror typecasting when she was hired for a comedy (TRADING PLACES) by the director John Landis, whose previous film you just reacted to, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. She wouldn't come back to the horror genre for another 15 years, when they threw a ton of money at her to reprise her role as Laurie in HALLOWEEN H20: TWENTY YEARS LATER. To this day she still gratefully thanks John Carpenter every chance she gets for giving her a career. John Carpenter DOES in fact write the music for most of his films, and today he's mainly retired from directing but tours with his band performing the various movie themes he composed over the years. I saw him play a few years ago, he's pretty good! The first movie little Tommy and Lindsey are watching on TV, the 1951 THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, was a favorite of Carpenter's and as you probably know now he did a remake of it a few years after this, simply called THE THING. (One of the best horror movies ever made, in my humble opinion.) THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD is about a group of isolated scientists in the Arctic, being stalked by a horrifying alien creature who keeps lunging at them through windows and in dark storerooms - clear parallels to what's happening to the characters in HALLOWEEN. (For good measure, the second movie the kids watch is the 1956 sci-fi film FORBIDDEN PLANET, about space explorers fighting a invisible monster made entirely out of evil thoughts and impulses, which is killing them off one by one...ALSO not that far off from what's happening in this movie.) As far as Michael himself, in this movie at least, he's almost not even a character. Just a mask and a name. And in the credits he's not even listed as "Michael Myers," he's just "The Shape," as in "the shape in the darkness." This movie inspired a torrent of imitations, literally dozens and dozens of movies over the next 10+ years about mysterious masked or deformed maniacs, and most of them make the mistake of trying to give their killer a clever backstory or a reason why they kill. The genius of HALLOWEEN to me is that Michael Myers has no backstory. We have no idea why he killed his sister, or why he comes home to kill again. We never, ever get a window into his mind, and therefore we can't hope to figure him out. I think Carpenter and Debra Hill, his co-writer, were depicting him as more of an urban legend than a real flesh-and-blood character - that the story we were watching unfold almost wasn't meant to be taken literally, but as a ghost story, something spooky told around a campfire to scare kids. This is why he becomes indestructible by the story's end. Because it's scarier. And this is why he disappears, and then we hear his breathing in a series of dark places. Because he's not real, not in the sense that the other characters are real. He IS the Boogeyman, and he's lurking in every shadow, waiting until we find ourselves alone.

Patrick Flanagan

There is a series on Netflix called 'The Movies That Made Us' and one episode is about Halloween. It details some of the stuff you mention and how the movie came to be.

Mark M

Thanks for reacting to this Cassie. I know I was sweating the first time I watched it, they really know how to create a sense of dread.

Mark M

Let's try this again. Sorry for posting so many times. Patreonkeeps eating my comments. Darn, most people have beat me to the punch here, mentioning all the fun factoids for this film. Other commenters have mentioned about the mask being a William Shatner mask, but I thought I'd add one thing with regards to the mask. You mentioned before you started watching that you thought this was the movie "with the hockey mask." You're thinking of Friday the 13'th's Jason. Jason wears the hockey mask. A few other fun facts: In some of the scenes in this film, Micheal is portrayed by what is either just a member of the crew, or someone on the street, I can't recall which. He's not an actor. I think he was just a guy who asked if he could stand there and watch one of the scenes being done or something. They saw him, and he was offered the chance to play the killer because they still hadn't found their Micheal. I don't remember if it's all of the scenes with the killer, but I know it was some of them. Oh, and the pumpkins. Apparently, they ran out of pumpkins while shooting the movie, and they needed a lot of them. Someone found some of those big squash, you know the large ones that look sort of like pumpkins, only they're green and more squat. Anyway, they painted them orange, and to me, you can't even tell the difference. I don't find this movie scary, but I did when I first saw it as a kid. It's only not scary to me now because I've seen it about a hundred times. When I was a teen, I dated a guy who loved these movies, so I ended up seeing all of them. Up to and including Halloween H20, and then I kind of lost track of them. It's interesting, because I'm not normally into horror or slasher stuff, but I do love this movie. It's one of few in this genre I actually enjoy, I think because Micheal is so grounded in reality, as something that could actually happen, and because it's very well put together without being too over the top. I will tell you something though. I don't like watching most horror, but I do love reading it. Stephen King is one of my all time favorite authors, though I also love stuff from him that isn't strictly horror, like The Stand. The Stand is my all time favorite book. OMG, I must be some kind of sadist. I loved watching you watch this. Seeing you this freaked out was so much fun. Every time you saw Micheal coming and flipped out, I howled with laughter. This is by far one of my favorite reactions from you. When you yelled at him to stop staring at people, I laughed so hard my sides split. Oh, and watching you try to calm yourself down by talking yourself through movies you've seen Jamie Lee Curtis in was hilarious. Oh, and one more thing. You mentioned that you couldn't think of other movies she was in besides Freaky Friday (love that one, by the way). I couldn't either, except one. Jamie Lee Curtis also starred in True Lies with Arnold. You might enjoy that one. It has lots of action, yes, but also lots of comedy, and Arnold and Jamie, surprisingly, make a great pair. Also, also, if you're looking for a few more fun, lighter movies with Arnold that have action but are also comedies, you should totally react to Twins and Kindergarten Cop. Both have lots of action too, but lots of comedy, and a bit of romance. I think you'd like them, and Twins is another 80s classic. After seeing The Terminator movies, it might be hard to picture Arnold as a comedian, but he's really quite good at it. Anyway, thanks for this great reaction to such a Halloween classic. You handled it well, my friend. I am proud of you. :D

Raven Dark

Ugh. My comment keeps disappearing.

Raven Dark

Maybe Michael just needed some Activia !!

Rich Mcclure

Carpenter’s original vision was no closure. No happy ending. No exhale of relief. The Boogie Man could be standing right behind you. Don’t look! Happy Halloween! 🎃 Thanks for all the spooky season reactions!

Prof. Writhms

Last time I saw this was at a horror convention in LA in the 80s. Great reaction Cassie!

Allen Bond

There are, what...five different film timelines?

Michael Hawk

That depends on the individual. Slasher films can be Grade Z crap, true, but so can possession movies. Personally, I find Halloween (the best slasher ever) way scarier than The Exorcist (best demonic possession movies ever) - but that's just me. Everyone has their own preferences and what is super scary to one person is relatively tame to another. Anyway, Happy Halloween 🎃

Raj K. Dixit

I don't know why people say this isn't a scary film. I think most people equate scary with loud noises and jump scares. This movie is truly terrifying because its grounded and real. This feels like something tangible that could happen. A demonic possession is kind of silly in comparison.

Myles Away

Carpenter, while in college visited a mental hospital as part of a field trip for a psychology class. During the trip, he saw a young schizophrenic teen boy who had such an evil look on his face that it inspired the "blackest eyes, the devil's eyes" monologue. Also, the mask is of William Shatner! It was a 2 dollar Captain Kirk mask, spray painted white, with the hair teased out and the eye holes enlarged.

Raj K. Dixit

So glad you saw this - my favorite horror film! "Does he have devil powers?" Halloween 4-6 showed that Michael was the product of a weird demonic cult curse which gave him super strength / invulnerability. John Carpenter didn't want any sequels as he considered the story complete with this one film. He wrote Halloween 2 only because he was forced to by contract with the studio/producers. That movie provided a definite end to the story of Michael, Laurie, and Dr. Loomis. But the studio wanted more money and churned out more sequels. In 2018, there was a complete reboot, with Carpenter's blessing. The 2018 reboot, simply called Halloween, (as well as the 2021 and 2022 sequels Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends) assume the 1978 film happened, discard all the other sequels, and are set 40 years later and show Laurie dealing with her trauma - and having to face Michael again when he escapes again (the recent Halloween Kills, currently in theaters, showed how Michael was caught after the events of the first movie). Very interested to see how they conclude this reboot trilogy with Halloween Ends next year. I could go on and on. Great reaction!

Raj K. Dixit

He wanted to do it but didn't have the funding or support, this was his first real profitable movie. He got to do The Thing off of Halloween's success getting him an offer eventually

Dustin Nelson

"Does he have the superhuman powers of the Devil?!" Well actually.......that's correct depending on who you ask. There are 13 Halloween films counting the new one that drops next year: Halloween Ends. He may finally die in that one, he'll canonically be like 65 though so possibly from aging. If you have ANY questions about Halloween or horror there's a 98% chance I have the answer and you're all welcome to reach out via messages.

Dustin Nelson

I have to work in 5 hours and I’m using my time wisely to watch you get scared instead of sleeping lol

Major

Great job Cassie! Proud of you for tackling one of the quintessential slasher movies. This film definitely popularized the genre and lead the way for a bunch more. Were there slasher films before this? Sure... but I'd argue this really set the stage for a boom of it in the 80s. Most of my friends like him for his horror but personally I love his sci-fi and Big Trouble in little china is definitely on a top 10 list for me. Anyway, great reaction! I really enjoyed watching it again :D

MattN

Make sure you watch the 1982 version of The Thing, which was also directed by John Carpenter. It's cool that he referenced the original in this movie - I'm assuming he already knew he was going to do a remake of it.

Johnny

I'm still waiting on the ultimate horror showdown- Jason vs Michael. Sadly idk if we'll ever get it though 😔

William Bryan

'The Thing' that people have been telling you to watch is a later and much different version of the film on TV here, and it was also directed by John Carpenter. He does the music for most of his own films and he is as good a composer as he is a director.. A lot of his later films were terrible ('Ghosts of Mars', anyone?) but I love his earlier stuff.

Jay

Also isn't it wild how Michael sees that mask in the hardware store and immediately goes "YES. This is me now."

Dustin Nelson

I think Se7en was more a precursor to Saw but Strangeland does feel like a bit of a bridge between them. As for Myers he doesn't die because he's become a supernatural embodiment of evil in corporeal form.

Dustin Nelson

Agreed it's way to far for her. Looking back on it I always felt Stranglend was a precursor for Saw. I think it was made like 5 or 6 years before the first Saw was released

William Bryan

Cassie if you want closure for him being dead I don't think you'll ever get it. Honestly. As long as there is money to be made, writers and producers with figure out some way as to why Michael survived. The closest we ever came to getting closure on the series was Halloween: H20, but Halloween Resurrection put that to bed.

William Bryan

Oh yeah that Dee Snider early internet story. Had some really vile stuff, that'd be too far for here. Very interesting conceptually, I don't think there's been anything else like it since.

Dustin Nelson

"Did she drop the knife again!? STOP DROPPING THE KNIFE!" I laughed at that. Is anything more quintessential to the slasher movie experience than yelling at the characters for being stupid? Hahaha, you are one of us now, young padawan! ;) Also, you are quite ready to see Scream now. It gets a lot of mileage out of poking fun at stuff like that. I won't lie - it's scary. But it's the same kind of scary as this, so you can handle one if you can handle the other. And I feel like people these days tend to forget that in addition to being scary it's also very good and very clever and frequently hilarious.

I most want to see The Wicker Man, TCM74, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th Part 6 here. TCM has been rough on some reactors though, but it MIGHT be eventually tolerable. IMO she can handle almost anything after Schindler's List, nothing fictional gets darker than that

Dustin Nelson

Oh TCM 74 is awesome no doubt. Those two would probably scar Cassie for life, maybe even more than The Shining

William Bryan

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 74 should top the list, though it has the best horror reboot by far and I can see your reasoning

Dustin Nelson

1) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre '03 2) Halloween '78 3) The Shining 4) Silver Bullet 5) IT '90 At least for me

William Bryan

Only a few minutes in but fun fact, that's a William Shatner mask spray painted white. *edit - someone got there before me :)

Jay

Fun fact: Jamie Lee Curtis is the daughter of Janet Leigh (Marion Crane in “Psycho).

Steve Slatten

Two years ago? You've been under a rock too huh? 😂😂

William Bryan

Imagine the '78 Halloween only with a lot of blood and "macabre"😉gruesomeness- the newest ones in a nutshell. Especially Halloween Kills.

William Bryan

I could give a long winded explanation but am trying to keep my enthusiasm somewhat contained

Congratulations, Cassie. In one month, you've watched PSYCHO (1960), the birth of the modern horror/slasher movie, and now HALLOWEEN (1978), the horror movie that set the template for all slasher movies that followed. You're officially a horror film buff.

Alex Villarreal

It's never really answered why he can't die. It's explained why Freddy and Jason can't but it never has been with Michael.

William Bryan

"I think it's the hockey mask guy" made me scream, I've lived with these characters so long it's really hard to grasp that someone could be unfamiliar with them. This was already worth being a patron and we're what, 4 minutes in? LOVE it, hope we can do more golden era horror

Dustin Nelson

Same say he is possess by Samhain the demon folklore of halloween same say he is Evil itself like something out of pandora box or something

MatthewBrown74m

I might send you a Michael myers mask lol

MatthewBrown74m

You good Cassie? This movie gave me nightmares as a kid. Michael Myers is such a good horror villain with that emotionless white mask and mechanical walk. He almost seems supernatural and no one knows what drives him… I think that mystery makes him incredibly scary!

Josh Phillips

Looking forward to watching it again. I haven't seen this in probably 30 years..

Johnny

Slasher horror movies are not as scary as demonic possession movies. I'm pretty sure you handle this pretty well.

G

Cassie remembers who Jamie Lee Curtis is and who her mother is. To paraphrase Ralph Wiggum "She's learnding" :) Fun Fact before anyone else mentions it, tthe mask Michael Myers uses is actuall a William Shatner mask.

Brian McGovern

Definitely makes it into the Top 5 greatest horror films ever made, this one is so special

Dustin Nelson

Guess who's staying up late on a work night for a reaction to an old school classic🤘

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

"...it was the Boogeyman." "As a matter of fact, it was." Such a great ending line.

2 am is the perfect time to start this movie🎃💀. I remember seeing this movie for the first time I think only 2 years ago. I remember feeling it wasn't that scary, but was surprisingly well put together. When Lori is walking to her house alone in the night on her street towards the end of the movie, while carpenters theme playing, I remember feeling excited, cuz you know stuff is about to hit the fan it's all been building up to this. Tension without gore can be difficult and is really well done here.
