The Invisible Man (2020) - Full Reaction

Hey guys! Carly joined me again to watch The Invisible Man (2020). Wow this was so intense, they built so much suspense and truly made you feel like you were in this nightmare! Elizabeth Moss was SO good. I felt like this one was rollercoaster scary-very scary but fun! Carly....had a bit of a harder time but she is doing ok now. She said this was the first time watching a movie that made her literally scream out loud. What did you guys think of this one?

The Invisible Man (2020) - Full Reaction

Comments

The evil invisible man (Adrian) is Oliver Jackson-Cohen who is also Luke in The Haunting of Hill house series.

Clay F

Elisabeth Moss is a dang good actor. I was somewhat surprised her character (Cee) wanted to throw water on a grease fire.

Clay F

Bit late, but try to recall the scene where Adrian's brother Tom went to James' house to kill Sydney. She sprayed him in the face and he fell against the closet/cupboard and she ran out, but got smacked to the ground in the hallway. Both Adrian and Tom where there! Unless he could teleport form the bedroom where he was mazed to the hallway in front of Sydney. And also remember that Adrian was found with red around his eyes in his "kidnapped" state from the maze spray. This movie has so many details that tell even more stories. One of the best thrillers I've seen in a while and I love your reactions to it! It was a fun watch. :D

Avastrasza

I think the movie is brilliant and the performances are great but i do think the ending of the movie is far to convenient. You mean to tell me that a person that is so meticulous didnt know that one of his suits were missing. I think it was just a bit of plot armor to make sure that the MC got the happy ending. It would have been even more epic if his manipulation succeeded.

SavageDiplomat

That was the first movie in a long time that had me on the edge of my seat. Wow, I thought see might have a plan when she went to his house at the end. She looked very relived and happy sitting their looking at him, good for her. Thanks, you guys that was a good movie.

Eddie Korstanje

Finally got to see you guys reaction to this one. I can see how intense it was for both of you especially Carly. Glad to hear she’s okay now ❤️. This was definitely a top ten favorite of 2020 for me. Elizabeth Moss crushed it here. Nevertheless it’s always a pleasure to see both of your reactions.

Joe M

This is such a great, powerful horror film, I really appreciate that you were able to handle this one. Probably the best horror film of 2020 and stuff like The Lighthouse and The Color Out of Space offered VERY strong competition. Perfect reimagining of one of the more hokey Universal Monsters too, the original was decent but not really saying anything too interesting and Hollow Man was simply bad. Really hope there's more horror after October

How to drive someone crazy. Chapter 1, Gaslighting (1944)

Grinznmore

Cassie, Has Carly come around to movies like this being fun now the initial anxiety has worn off? Or has she been burned too badly to go for seconds?!

Darren Gibson

Popcorn in Bed? Popcorn in Dread more like! Epic reaction 😂

Darren Gibson

You girls are a pair of wimps :) Great move, Great reaction. Love your channel

William

Some people rate this film high. I think this is just a good sci-fi movie.

G

Another I hadn't seen before. I enjoyed this considerably more than Shutter Island. I did feel the brother was involved in terrorising Cecilia and at one point thought he was behind the whole thing in order to get his Adrian's money. That was perhaps an intended misdirect. So that took the surprise of that reveal for me. Interestingly Adrian was never ever unmasked, so it was still unclear who did what exactly. Tom could have had a recording of Adrian's voice. That was the premise I was operating under for a while. But that turned out to be too elaborate of a theory that never fit with the developing plot. But would have been a good twist.

Daryl

Ok, loved the Oh My Gosh counter. We need to place bets on the total for each movie and have a prize for the one who guesses correctly.

Matt Mabry

Great reaction as always! One of the few movies that got me mad/upset. Elizabeth Moss's character getting abused, set up, and nobody believing her. 😣 I couldn't really enjoy the movie as much as I wanted to lol.

Nismo

My own head-shaker: no-one uses fountain pens these days, surely? Especially not as corporate give-aways. If they did, they wouldn't be left on display in the visiting area of a facility of violently-inclined inmates. Given all that, the (cheap) nibs wouldn't be strong enough to inflict serious damage through a spandex(?) suit covered in fish-eye lenses. But anyway...

Dean A

Yeah, this was intense. It was toooooooo much “being a female in this world” just with the spooky-angle of the tech. Being stalked, having people not believe you and/or downplay it…. Having to watch out for who may be in your car before you get in or if an ex/stalker has entered your house…. Too close to home and reality for comfort. I tend to enjoy psychological thrillers and sci-fi and mixed together they can be fun… but this caused such high anxiety because it was so similar to things that occur to others and I’ve had happen without the invisible angle. Heck, at least in this there was the invisible angle for people to think you’re imagining it rather than just disbelieving you…. I really loved the handling of the cinematography. The way it built tension with the long and circling effects and giving that genuine feel of seeing everything but not. This film was great in building that tension, acting was great, sci-fi was predicated on ideas of actual tech being worked on, effects were very well done! But I found myself annoyed at things that were plot holes or didn’t make sense even when you hand a film that suspension. of disbelief they need to work. So I watched it with that stomach-clenched tension it carried so well, mixed with a lot of moments of , “ well that makes no sense in the boundaries of this movie….”. For just one: Sydney “being slapped” by the lead (forgotten her name suddenly, sorry)….. you see someone move at you when they slap you. Sydney fell from a strike at the wrong angle from where the lead woman was sitting. They weren’t even in positions together for a strike like that or anywhere that level intensity. And in lots of other spots that didn’t fall into “it’s a horror movie so things are alllowed to be strange” where I kept shaking my head.

Rumpus Parable

I liked when Elizabeth Moss stared at the full body bandaged person in the hospital - nice little nod to the original ;-)

Dean A

Carly would NEVER and I'm not sure I'm brave enough yet...

Cassie

Here's my letterboxd account: https://letterboxd.com/pib1/ It's still a work in progress!

Cassie

I have not seen it! I'll make sure it's on the list!

Cassie

hahaha 🤣

Cassie

Dirk, well said. I agree 100% -- remove the magic suit and this is still terrifying and believable how an abusive partner manipulates their victim. That is real, true, and terrifying. In Ted Lasso, Ted & his wife learn in therapy to use the word, "Oklahoma" when the want the truth from each other. Cassie & Carly should have a secret word in case they ever get a weird nasty email seemingly from each other so they can know it wasn't from them.

Jon Johns

chick flick until that great ending

Mike Lipke

I mentioned this on YouTube, but I think a lot of people miss the point of this movie. On the surface it is, of course, a scary/suspense movie, but that's not what it is really about. It's about being in an abusive relationship,. and trying to escape that. And how the people around you don't notice the abuse, or are blind to the abuser, and it feels like it is just happening to you. In essense, it's a movie about domestic abuse, framed in the narative of a thriller. And how hard it can be to escape that situation, when nobody else can see it, or believe you, or you believe yourself. That is, in essense, what I believe this movie is about.

Dirk Rheeder

one more win, one more win, one more win. Chop This House. GO BRAVOS!!!!!!!!

William Bryan

The original was nowhere NEAR as scary as this one. A Scientist creates a syrum that causes him to be invisible. This is the 4th time I watched this version because it's amazingly acted. However, tonight was the first time I noticed that it was written and directed by Leigh Whannell...the guy who brought us the original SAW movie. I loved watching it tonight with you girls...especially when I knew there would be a jump scare...I love watching you react to the jump scares. Another psychological thriller you might like is "Double Jeopardy" starring Ashley Judd, Tommy Lee Jones and Bruce Greenwood.

Chris Reise

I can't even tell you guys how much I enjoyed that. My first watch and I was a bit knotted up, the attic, ho boy. Although I enjoy your reactions to spooky stuff I can't wait for October to end so you, and Sis, can get back to more favorable fare. Bless you both and keep safe.

softshoes

Wow, that was a good movie - first time seeing it. It was a lot of fun to watch with you and Carly, like it made it more intense. I had no idea this movie was going to be as dark as it was. Great reaction vid!

Johnny

I knew when the scares were coming but you guys screaming actually made me jump during the attic scene 😂. I love this film but it is nothing like the original, totally different story and Carly would have no issue with it. No crazy jump scares or anything like that, it's honestly just really good fun. And the effects must have been mind blowing in the 30s, they still look pretty good today. I was fairly sure you'd like this and I think you'll like Beetlejuice, but one of my all time favourites, the brilliant 'Halloween'? I don't know what you're going to make of it. I've read lots of comments saying it's not that scary, but do have Ben on standby. For people still new to these movies, 'Halloween' is scary.

Jay

Great react! I always love seeing Carly and I thought it was really sweet seeing Cassie try to help Carly through it. I have avoided this movie because of the content but I am glad I saw with the channel! Great job!! <3

MattN

Alex, excellent trivia connection on Gloria Stuart. Thanks

Grinznmore

The original THE INVISIBLE MAN (1933) may seem more quaint by comparison and is more faithful to the H.G. Wells book. This one may have been enough in terms of exploring this source material. Interesting fact: the heroine in the 1933 version is Gloria Stuart, who played the elderly woman in TITANIC (the older version of the Kate Winslet character).

Alex Villarreal

I'm not sure we're talking about the same film. The classic 1933 film starring Claude Rains is not gory.

Grinznmore

You should watch the movie SCREAM with Carly as well! :P

Mitchell Bowker

I'm a Field Supervisor for county animal services and also a certified cruelty investigator. The link between animal cruelty and domestic abuse has recently been more recognized. So given the nature of this movie and the presence of the dog in it, I thought I'd share a link to Ahimsa house which is a charity that takes in animals from women fleeing a domestic violence situation in Georgia. I'm sure there are other such charities in some other states as well but I don't know of them. https://ahimsahouse.org/about-us/what-we-do/

JayF

I don't know I guess I haven't seen it in like 12 13 years. That doesn't mean it's not a scary movie. It's one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. That movie terrified people in the theater. You might not be scared because you've seen it a few times but I bet Cassie wouldn't make it through that movie.

Michael Lynch

Upgrade was a real surprise hit for me. I sat down expecting not that much to be honest and got a very well executed, creative, and memorable movie.

Gábor Árki

When is the last time you watched The Ring? It really does not hold up 20 years later.

Myles Away

Oh and the original invisible Man was much more gory than this one.

Michael Lynch

The funny thing is they're calling this a scary movie. It's pretty suspenseful but I don't think you two could handle a true horror movie. Movies like Texas chainsaw massacre, the ring, or Candyman would permanently scar you girls.

Michael Lynch

Carly is the bravest. Taking on an invisible man like a champ.

Alex Villarreal

@Cassie, what did you name your user on Letterboxd? We can search for your list and see the movies you have on it, even without signing in.

Kevin

This is exactly the kind of movie I probably wouldn't have ever decided to watch myself. I just hate that constant anxiety of waiting for the next jump scare. It's a very well made movie though and great acting from Elisabeth Moss, but also a good reminder why I don't really like this genre. Have you seen Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992)? It's a comedy/romance take on being invisible with Chevy Chase and Daryl Hannah, directed by John Carpenter. Although there are better movies out there from Chase and Carpenter too, I still think it's a fun movie to watch.

Gábor Árki

Yes to Tremors, that’s a great shout

James Hadden

Crazy movie

David

Since you enjoyed this one i would recommend that you check out the directors previous movie Upgrade.

Patrick Toscano

Brilliant update, though the original holds it’s own. Carly, the original (1933) has impressive special effects. You might give it a look. Of course it’s not as intense or bloody but is still a terrific Halloween movie. It would be fun to see the two versions of the story. Ok, so here’s my plea. Tremors (1990) for October and Planes, Trains and Automobiles heading into Thanksgiving. Thank you for a great evening of storytelling and reaction.

Grinznmore

Hey Cassie. Just watching your Live on YT. If you release merch that doesn't have the words "OH MY GOSH!" on it then you are missing a trick! 😂 Will be watching your Invisible Man later. Can't wait to see Carly freak out 🤣

Darren Gibson

That was a lot of fun. I'm glad Carly has recovered :) What a great choice!! I caught a bit of your livestream and one of the questions you were asked was (something like): What was your favourite quote from one of your own reactions so far? Out of all the reactors I've watched, I still think you and Carly have my favourite quote thus far. During Jaws, when shit is starting to get real on the Orca, the two of you came up with a game plan to deal with the shark: 1) Call the President. 2) Get the rocket launcher. A reasonable plan if I ever heard one!! Still makes me laugh just thinking about it :)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Won't be watching until later but I'm delighted you liked it. People love to belittle, or sometimes outright dismiss the whole horror genre, even self confessed movie buffs. I've never understood it. Horror can be moving, it can be exciting, it can be funny and, most importantly, it can be completely engrossing. It is not a lesser genre in the world of film making. Yeah there is lots of trashy horror, but would I dismiss the whole comedy genre because I've seen the likes of Movie 43 and Jack and Jill? No, that would be stupid and I would only be denying myself lots of wonderful movies. Also, watched some of the livestream last night (twas a bit passed my bedtime so couldn't stay for the whole thing), you were great. Don't worry about not answering every question. It's literally impossible and everyone watching understands that. Maybe not the superchats but you kept up with them ("Here's Johnny" 😂😂). And "um" all you want, it's fine :)

Jay

i have actually seen jerry mcguire, LOVED IT! It seemed like Almost Famous was getting lots of love yesterday in the live so that will def be done soon!!

Cassie

Last movie I saw in theatres before lockdown lol

William Bryan

Happy to see that you're giving Halloween a go. Would you do the same with Scream? In my opinion, they're more or less in the same ballpark when it comes to scary

Shehab Dawoud

I'd like to see you react to some Coen brothers films at some point. I think you would love True Grit (2010) and O Brother Where Art Thou?. My personal favorite is No Country for Old Men but that's pretty dark so you'd have to fit it in between some comedies or something. The Big Lebowski is another obvious choice but a ton of people have reacted to it and I don't know if you'd enjoy it.

JayF

I was hoping you'd do this one. It was probably the best movie I saw last year.

Drew

This is one of only a few movies of this type I saw at the cinema. There was a guy in the front row making spooky noises throughout which was amusing for the rest of the us. There is one jump scare that I knew was coming but still made me leap out of my chair. Enjoyable movie.

James Hadden

Please put Almost Famous and Jerry Magurie on a poll.

Rasmus Kristensen

Im not a horror fan, but I really liked this one.

Rasmus Kristensen

Im insanely drunk and Ive had this on my list for a while. So Im excited to watching this with you and see what happens.

David RedEagle

I'm very excited about this one! 👻 What I expected to be another cheesy remake was an excellent thriller. The way it ended, it looks like they could be setting up for a sequel called "The Invisible Woman", but I hope they leave this as a stand-alone movie. You describing it as "very scary but fun"-- you're discovering what makes a horror fan tick. You're one of us now. ;) Much respect to Carly.

Prof. Writhms

Also my here’s how I like my popcorn. Follow the Alton brown method for making the popcorn, it’s super easy, there are YouTube videos on it. I melt butter and add soy sauce and sriracha and I toss the popped corn in that. I dice wasabi and sea salt sea weed and add that to the toss. Best popcorn. Soooo good.
