We are also planning on having another live on YT on October 19th. I’m going to open some packages, and we’re going to have a drawing with everyone’s names in it and i’ll pick two and those people get to pick a movie of their choosing for me to watch. I wanted to make it a patreon exclusive draw, but after reading up on it it sounds like i can’t do “a raffle” with paying patrons having any advantage, so it has to be open to anyone? Does anyone know anything about this or a way around it?

Normally I think a raffle is where people 'pay to enter' for a chance to win a prize of value during some promotional event - that's a raffle and that's not allowed because of gambling rules. If Cassie creates the list of names I think it's much less of a raffle to start with, it erases the entry part, there is no action of entering. If the prize or final product is a reaction video uploaded for everyone to enjoy, then the winners do not receive a prize for them to own, the reaction is made public. Use a random number generator to select two names from the list, The two selected names get to "assist" Cassie in selecting movies (they give their movie pick). I feel that if you don't use strict raffle rules then it's not a raffle but the spirit of awarding two Patreons is still fulfilled. You can't call it a raffle, you can't describe it as a raffle. You probably have to tell everyone it's not a raffle. Possible example of how to announce it... "Two names will be randomly selected from my Patreons. They will help me pick two movies to react to. The reactions will then be uploaded for (insert event here.)" This is not gambling, this is not a raffle, the odds of winning will not be specified. There are no official rules.

2021-10-14 06:44:40 +0000 UTCCassie, that's interesting - I think you can't do a "raffle" because you're not allowed to "sell tickets" for a "chance to win a prize" of some value - because it's gambling if there is something of value to win. Therefore if you don't sell tickets and if there is no prize it could work, you also can't call it a raffle. No tickets - maybe if you print a list of Patreon names from last week and no one can be added to it then there are no tickets, no virtual tickets, no mechanism to buy in. Basically Cassie makes a list using undisclosed sources (but we know they're Patreon names). No prize - maybe if the two selected are allowed to give a movie title suggestion, they are not given anything thus there is no awarded prize. The titles are just suggestions because Cassie has to confirm that she can watch them anyway. Also when Cassie uploads the reaction it is available to everyone therefore it is not a prize given to the winners only, the reaction is uploaded for everyone. The end product reaction video is not awarded ownership to the two people, there is no prize. And finally, possibly change the wording, the labels. Instead of being "winners" call them champions or "agents" or what are those posts around the bed, bedposts? Call them popcornators, sheetstewards. They are "appointed the role" of coming up with a movie title for Cassie to watch. And I think that's done it!

There's a bunch of trash films on the list but there's also classics. dead and buried was made partially by the film crew that did alien. I just find it interesting as its part of film history around the world.

The video nasties was basically the British government banning films mostly based on posters, box art and word of mouth. Most of the time they never watched the film before banning it. If you look at the official banned films some are very weird choices if you've seen them. Evil Dead is probably the biggest title on the list that was banned.
