Congratulations on getting through this and a, so sorry it was so rough while it was going on. It was clearly a terribly intense ride. With. That reaction to the tension build and child factors of this I DEFINITELY urge you to keep refusing The Exorcist. Maybe someday you’ll be up for that, but you are nowhere in a comfort zone where that’d be AT ALL healthy for you and I completely support you avoiding it. I don’t tend to like supernatural horror, especially demonic and similar…. I saw The Exorcist as an adult and despite being able to handle a lot of other kinds of scary films to include a fair number of different supernatural styles, that one took me about 15-20years (one of which being a Christmas theater viewing with behind the scenes documentary after it) to be okay with it. The scars are still there, but that’s to be expected as it hits too close to some real-life things in my life to detach completely from. But I can watch it and move on with my day now. Yeah, stay away from The Exorcist. That’s both a statement of support in saying no to it and a request out of concern for you. Maybe in a few years or something…. As to The Shining, I’m for one who the movie isn’t scary, but it’s because I read the book first. I find this film very problematic directly contradicting the raves it gets. I don’t argue the Kubrick made a film that can be very intense and scary for people… but to me it seems it really comes down to scary flashes and keeping the viewer confused and just having an EXCELLENT soundtrack/soundscape crew. He gutted the actual King story so that’s why much of it was so confusing or left-open - not out of art intentions but out of lack of answers once all the story had been was torn apart. For a plot I’d suggest reading the novel it’s “based” on, but I’d say ultimately not to because it is much, much scarier… because you’ve horror AND a plot that has cohesion and horrifying clear progression. As you’ll see others have said: the “Here’s Johny!” was a reference to the old Tonight Show opening and how “Jack” is often a nickname/short for “Jonathon”. So he’s making a psychotic joke about a TV show and his birth name combined. It sounded at the end like you didn’t get what “redrum” was still. If that’s right then the answer is that it was what Danny saw in his dreams: “murder” spelled backwards, as was revealed when his mom hugged him and saw he’d written the word “murder” on the door - by looking over his shoulder and seeing it in the room's mirror. Am glad you got through it and grabbed the husband for support when you needed to. I enjoy seeing you and other reactors get scared or really hit hard emotionally, but there’s a limit. There’s “haha, a friend might pee themselves” and then there’s “oh god, they’re seriously getting pushed by this”. The first is fun, the second is not…. Please, if anything does come up that is too hard to watch as you’ve gotten into it turn it off. I, as said, for the vast most part can’t do supernatural horror. My best friend lives for it…. Total horror fiend. I combined our files into one set of servers and she laughed because she had many fewer films, but almost entirely horror… call it 120 films and maybe 11 weren’t some form. I have about 2TB of films and had the original Nightmare on Elm Street series of about 6 or so total horrors. And those have a heavy humor lean mixed in. There are a lot of straight-out “NOPE”s that I know I can’t handle watching horror-wise. What I’m saying is again: turn off anything you ever find you need to as it’s fun to share someone getting scared in the moment to only a certain extent…. Don’t push yourself ever past where you feel is an okay level as it’s just heart wrenching to watch when someone genuinely is having more than a “might pee themselves right now a bit” level of intensity in a film (horror or other intense emotion!) AND NO, no Exorcist anytime soon. You’ve my back on that. I’d love to see you watch it if someday it was in you’re “just freaked during the film” zone but oh no, it’s well outside of that right now.

2021-10-03 23:42:35 +0000 UTCDid Secretariat REALLY lose to a movie about that scumbag Tonya Harding? Jesus, that's depressing.

2021-10-03 04:39:45 +0000 UTCI didn't think Foxcatcher was bad, but the Team Foxcatcher documentary was much better.

2021-10-02 13:48:50 +0000 UTCI thought it was pretty fascinating but I had watched the documentary Team Foxcatcher on Netflix before seeing the dramatization.

2021-10-02 03:56:45 +0000 UTCI like slow burn movies as much as the next guy but man Foxcatcher was so boring- probably the closest I came to falling asleep in a theater. Interesting that it's based on a true story but that wasn't even compelling enough to keep 6 or so people from walking out. Everyone's performances were awesome, but the film just seemed dull and lifeless kinda glad it's in the loser's bracket

2021-10-02 00:03:41 +0000 UTCI agree with Mike. Raging bull is a masterpiece but I don't see Cassie enjoying it at all.

2021-10-01 18:41:46 +0000 UTCI dont think our host would enjoy Raging Bull , its pretty graphic for an entertaining boxing movie

2021-10-01 18:15:36 +0000 UTCYou are definitely going to have check out some of these other movies no matter what the out come here. It kinda sucks because as Cassie said the seeding is random so good movies are going head to head early in the brackets (42 v Field of Dreams) I kinda feel like this is going to end up being like the pre 1960 bracket where Cassie will end up watching more than just the "top 2" which is a good thing for sure!

2021-10-01 16:14:05 +0000 UTCNot a fan of real life boxing, I don't think I've ever watched a fight. But I love movies and documentaries about it, I think it works/looks better in film than most sports (I'd say the same about motor racing). When We Were Kings, Rocky and Raging Bull are all brilliant and I liked Ali, but I wouldn't rank it alongside the other 3.

2021-10-01 16:06:14 +0000 UTCEven if Rocky doesn't win...it is a must see movie for anyone that considers themselves a movie fanatic....I am sad that 42 didn't make the winners list because that movie too is outstanding. The rest are kinda wish washy at best for being must see movies.
