The Lost World: Jurassic Park - Full Reaction

Hey guys! I've wanted to watch this one ever since I watched the first and it did not disappoint! I know sequels often don't live up to the original, but in this case I felt like I was very invested and on the edge of my bed the whole time! I actually really liked this one and despite what most people have said, I'll probably finish the rest of the series as I seem to be very entertained by dinosaur movies. Hope you enjoy and thanks as always for being here!

The Lost World: Jurassic Park - Full Reaction

In the original script, they were supposed to be transporting 3 velociraptors and they were the ones that got loose and killed the crew. Spielberg scrapped that last minute because of budget and time constraints.

I never figured out all the boat deaths, either. I mean, if he killed the guys on the bridge, you'd expect the whole bridge roof to be torn up. And how did the guy who closed the door on the cargo hold get eaten by the Rex if the Rex was in the hold being closed in? I mean, it's a bit of entertainment, so I try not to pick it apart too much, but it's a bit silly, lol.

I have found all of the Jurassic Park movies a lot of fun. This one I found interesting from a couple of standpoints. First was the use of a couple of plot points from Michael Crichton’s source novel that were tossed for the first film. The high hide was in the novel but not used till now, and the compies attacking and killing Dieter Stark was actually how John Hammond met his end in the novel (oops, spoiler). The other thing I found interesting was the initial T-Rex fatality. First time I saw the original film in a theater a lot people (yours truly included) burst out laughing at the obscurity of the lawyer being snatched off a toilet to be devoured. Eddie’s death in the sequel is much darker and there’s nothing funny about it whatsoever. I’m thinking Steven Spielberg hadn’t expected the reaction the first film’s T-Rex attack sparked and made a course correction.

I really didn't care for this movie but your reactions make it more bearable. The problem with many sequels is they are always trying to be bigger and better...2x whatever the first one provided. At some point it usually devolves into what I call 'As if' moments where you are enjoying the movie and suspension of disbelief keeps stacking upon itself until you finally get to a point where someone does gymnastics to take out a Raptor and you think to yourself 'As if'.

The guy that gets eaten by the T-rex at the video store is the screenwriter, David Koepp.

Honestly up until the whole San Diego bit I think this movie is fantastic. Even Spielberg says that part of the movie was a mistake. There were other and better ways to wrap that movie up, they tried to go for some grand climax and it just ends up setting the stage of the kind of stupid shit we see in the newer Jurassic World movies. Great reactions as always Cassie.

Personally, I just feel like the approach here is all wrong. I, personally, appreciate everyone's opinions here, even ones I disagree with, but I see/read less of, "this is why I don't care for this film," and more of, "No one should watch this trash, it's blasphemy to my personal opinion of how the story should go!" I mean, it's fine to disagree with the writers, directors, or actors choices, but to insist someone else should agree with your opinion, without seeing the film first... I cannot understand? Let me waste my time as I choose, and afterwards, we can choose to agree on your critique, or disagree.

Love your reactions! Any chance we will have any in 4k?

I agree. There is no point in saying "this is the worst one" "part X is not as good as Y" about a movie anyone wants to watch. it just makes them feel like they need to apologize for liking something they think "everyone hates"

Much like all the star wars haters, people just need to let Cassie experience these movies and let her form her own opinion. None of this "dont watch Jurassic park 2 or 3 and Jurassic World, dont watch the sequel trilogy to star wars they suck" How about let her experience these movies like you did, some liked them some hated them. This is proof that just because YOU hated some of these movies does not mean she will. A movie can have a lot of flaws and STILL be enjoyable. Like she says herself, she is easily entertained. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Hope you will watch the third one, even if it is far from the two first ones, probably because Spielberg wasn't directing it. But go watch it, it's always fun to see Cassie jump!

Hi Cassie! I just wanted to fill the boat plot hole for you. There's a scene in the script that actually shows raptors on the boat, but it was for some reason not filmed. So, I guess raptors got them. Also, fun fact, the opening scene with the little girl was actually taken from the original "Jurassic Park" novel. That book was quite different from the movie we ended up getting. John Hammond was a straight-up villain, he and Ian Malcolm actually die, and the entire island is firebombed by the Costa Rican government. So, when Steven Spielberg told the original author, Michael Crichton, that they not only wanted a sequel, but they wanted Ian Malcolm to be the star, you can imagine he had to do some pretty intense backtracking.

So much fun, all of them really are. I loved when you did the velociraptor finger hands thing. That was just cute.
