The Wizard of Oz - Full Reaction

I don't know if a lot of people arrive a couple years later to watch videos like this, but the YouTube video is out of sync. There is a second or two of full delay between when Cassie's lips move and when we hear her speaking. Is that how others see it as well? I also tried the Vimeo link but it didn't work. Hopefully someone can reply if there is a way to watch the movie without the lip-sync issues...?

Another great reaction Cassie. Interestingly the thing that I thought about when I saw the flying monkeys was the first Avengers movie of all things… lol. When The Avengers are on the bridge of the helicarrier, Nick Fury wants to know how Loki turned two men into his personal flying monkeys (when he brainwashed Hawkeye and Dr. Selvig) Thor looks confused and says monkeys? I don’t understand , but Cap is exited because he’s been frozen for 70 years and is lost in the 21st century, replies I do, I understand that reference. You will probably come across movies where people will say I’m melting when water is thrown on them I’m watching Chernobyl with you, ep 3 next.

We have to sync up our own copy of the film. That's part of the criteria...we have to own our own copy to watch these so Cassie doesn't get into any copyright trouble.

Why is the video blurry and no sound

You've got to watch Return to Oz - a beautifully sad quasi-sequel to The Wizard of Oz

I've reached out to Vimeo - they changed some stuff this morning and it seems like it's messed something up. I'll keep everyone updated

I Can’t watch any of the full new reactions

The King In The North

Hey! Are you still have trouble accessing the video? Are you trying to access it through a computer or on a phone?

Cassie

Anybody having issues accessing the video. It says “ sorry video doesn’t exist”

I feel quite conflicted about this movie since I learned that Judy Garland had to smoke up to 80 cigarettes a day to suppress her appetite. The lead dust they used on the Tin man was also quite poisonous so that´s that.

This might be my favorite reaction vid ever. I almost feel sorry for kids today being able to watch Wizard any time they want on video or stream it. The film has a very different meaning for us Baby Boomers. Growing up, the movie was generally available only once a year when it was broadcast on network TV (NBC on Sunday night, if I recall correctly). It was always a special night at my house. My mom would make a big bowl of banana pudding which I would consume ravenously. I knew the songs by heart and it never got old. Sorry, Cassie but the flying monkeys were one of my favorite parts. Loved watching them take off en masse to hunt down Dorothy. My favorite memory was on a spring break trip to Florida with my frat brothers in the 70s. We had one of those big radios that pulled in everything from AM/FM to shortwave, including the audio of over-the-air TV. While we were passing Jacksonville, we picked up Wizard on a nearby station just as the Yellow Brick Road song began. So there we were barreling down the highway, jammed into a station wagon singing along. Those memories are priceless.

Cassie asked about whether the munchkins were played by little people, and the answer is yes. Here is a Twitter thread about what The Wizard of Oz means to the Little People community: https://twitter.com/rebeccacokley/status/1388704457911939073?s=21 To summarize, the making of the film was one of the first times Little People from all over the US actually got together. Most Little People then never met other people like themselves. So the mass acting job opportunity played a major role in developing that community into what it is today. It even created whole families that continue on and today can trace their origins back to the making of the film. At the same time, the film itself also kind of passively encouraged some not so nice stereotyping and mockery of real life Little People, which also continues today. So pluses and minuses!

Oz is a definite must watch. It's sad though, Judy Garland the actress who played Dorothy died in 1969 at age 47 of a drug overdose. Rewatching it for the first time in years it's really amazing how many cultural references there are to this movie.

Andrew Hansen

Musicals are always hit or miss for me. Oz is a "miss" lol. I still appreciate it for its cultural impact but I probably will never watch it again lol I can watch Grease any day tho
