Pre-1961 Bracket Update #6

Hey everyone!! Just a reminder to vote on the matchup today. The last time these 2 went up against each other it ended in a tie as they each had the exact same number of votes! I'll be watching the winner of this matchup for sure, and then the order will be decided in the final vs. "Wizard of Oz".

I kind of like this idea, as a way of introducing a wild-card selection now and then. The brackets require a lot of effort but don't produce anything novel or surprising. She'd have to be careful how it was set up, though, so it complied with gambling laws and platform T&C's.

Catherine, there is a lesson in knife fighting. BTW, if you watch the part of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", look at how Logan holds the knife. Of course, it doesn't really matter after what Butch did.

Charles Mills

David, if it’s not done, she will never be able to watch a film by most of these directors. Their films consistently lose in polls here.

Catherine LW

Yes but it’s not violent.

Catherine LW

Billy Wilder!!! Billy Wilder!!! Billy Wilder!!!πŸ˜€

Krusty β€œTopher”

12 angry men is sooooo much a better film than Psycho....especially in todays climate its a must watch

mikeb0509

I'll keep an eye out for it. The Schmidt's just did 2010 and liked it.

Charles Mills

I think is not good idea, because is almost impossible pick only one movie from this directors.. Good idea is watch thier filmography if have lotf of time :)

David Hron

Well with people voting multiple times it’s not inconceivable.

Catherine LW

Rich, I’m for Lawrence of Arabia, but I’d like to see what Cassie would choose.

Catherine LW

Which do you think Cassie would choose?

Catherine LW

We all know what movie would win Kubrick lol

William Bryan

Rich Mcclure

I still want a classic director’s poll, and Cassie chooses which film from the winning and losing director. Some suggestions: Hitchcock, Kubrick, Lean, Wyler, Wilder, Huston, Capra, Zinnemann, Cukor, Hawks, Ford, Preminger, etc. I’m sure others will have suggestions for CLASSIC directors.

Catherine LW

Shan will be reacting to Rear Window as it won his poll handily.

Catherine LW

I still don't see how Fargo won the top two. Silence of the Lambs yes, but Fargo? It's ok, Fugitive is way better imo

William Bryan

Yep. She'll be watching both. πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

William Bryan

So it’s psycho and wizard?? I can’t see poll results anymore.

Krusty β€œTopher”

I'll join you...it should've won.

Marci Flint

Holy crap that was close. Psycho was down 2 pts just an hour ago, but it looks like it pulled out the win this time. So... best 2 out of 3? πŸ˜‰ Well I'll probably vote for it in the final round. If we're gonna do Psycho then better save Oz for a palette cleanser.

Robin T

I called it. I said from the very beginning Psycho and Oz would be the last two left.

William Bryan

In your live broadcast, you mentioned some of the movies that you eliminated from consideration on the pre 1961 tournament.. Have you seen Gone With The Wind? If you have yet to see it, it is worth the time investment. Also, I kept typing "Elizabethtown", but you ignored my plea. I think you and your sister would enjoy it...

Mike McLaughlin

Just n idea, for future openings. pre-cut the boxes open or at least to the point where there is very little tape left to cut or you can simply open with your hands.. :)

Mike McLaughlin

She was scary with that knife. Then she gets the long package and say it might be a poster...or a sword, and I start thinking "Please let it NOT be a sword." :) Before you do another one of these we need to get you one of the box cutters that only has a short blade that is only exposed while your thumb is pushing on its spring loaded safety.

Charles Mills

I was so so hoping that she would do "Rear Window" or "Twelve Angry Men." I think she would love "Rear Window" with the romance and suspense, especially if she had her sister to help try to follow the plot. It has a plot like a bobsled race. I don't think she'd like "Twelve Angry Men", but it would be an interesting reaction to watch. If she does a old westerns bracket, I'll be pulling for "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" with the love triangle, emotion, and intrigue. "Shane" would be good too.

Charles Mills

Well, this bracket went all disappointing. Hopefully she'll just watch the final 4 to get the movies that should have won. Casablanca was a no brainer for her. Now there's 13 Angry Men in this place. *Disclaimer...just having fun. Not really mad at these choices...well maybe a little. Just hope we get a reaction for the other two at some point. *
