This was an instant classic for me and had all the high school clichés but also gave real and deep problems and emotions that we feel as teens as well. Were you guys team Duckie or Blane?

If I do eat something I'll typically sneak Snickers or Milky Way in. I'll also sneak Corona or a wine cooler in on occasion

2021-09-02 04:31:10 +0000 UTCThat was so much fun! I only wish Blane's character was fleshed out a bit more so the audience could better understand why he was worthy of Andie's affections. As it is, I think most people wish she ended up with Duckie.

2021-08-27 13:24:40 +0000 UTCJames Spader played Steff, and as you mentioned is currently Red on THE BLACKLIST. Spader started out in mostly straightforward leading roles but as he got older made the successful leap to weirder and weirder character acting. He also played the extremely creepy new boss Robert California on THE OFFICE after Steve Carell left the show. Spader co-starred with Andrew McCarthy (Blane) a year after this in the Very Very Serious movie LESS THAN ZERO, about drug-addled party kids in L.A., along with Robert Downey Jr. Molly Ringwald (Andie) actually tried hard to get Downey cast as Duckie in this movie but he lost out to Jon Cryer. Cryer was another '80s movie star whose career cooled and then who had a huge comeback years later in TV, starring in TWO AND A HALF MEN for what felt like 30 years along with Charlie Sheen, who I think was considered for the role of Blane. It's all connected. The bouncer who wouldn't let Duckie into the club was played by Andrew Dice Clay. This movie came out right before Clay became a gigantic stand-up comedy star, the most successful in the world for a few years, before flaming out rather spectacularly. After appearing at an MTV awards show and delivering a "filthy" routine he was famously banned for life from the network, at a time when MTV actually was a big deal and not a home for pregnant teen reality stars. A few years ago, Clay made something of a comeback as an actor; you might have seen him in A STAR IS BORN, playing Lady Gaga's chaffeur father.

2021-08-27 11:38:08 +0000 UTCThe original Pretty in pink ending had Andie ending up with Duckie but the test audience booed it as they wanted her to end up with the hot guy not duckie. They rewrote and reshot the ending in 3 weeks total and 1 day of shooting to get the blaine andie pairing but they didn't want to leave Duckie high and dry so they hired the girl at the prom to look over at him implying he'd have another option.

In the end, the boys learned that lesson from her. Now, about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Like John Hughes? Try Planes, Trains and Automobiles this Thanksgiving.
