What About Bob (1991) - Full Reaction

I know this is old, but if you are wanting another similar feel Bill Murray movie, you might enjoy The Man Who Knew Too Little. It's another fun one, althoug lesser known.

Enjoyed your reaction

Wow, this was unexpectedly funny. How did I never heard about this movie so far? This is now the second surprise Bill Murray hit I just found within a year or so besides The Man Who Knew Too Little (1997).

Gábor Árki

I totally agree! This is my favorite dramatic role for Richard Dreyfuss'.

Chazzie3679

Yes! I'd love for Cassie to react to that one!

Hi Cassie. If you're up for another movie about boats (not submarines, aircraft carriers, or What about Bob boats) Wind is a good movie. It even has a bit of a love story.

Paul Nevland

Watching this, I'm reminded of what I thinks is Richard Dreyfuss' best work, Mr. Holland's Opus. Definately should watch.

Alan Kobb

100% agree. Great movie.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels would be really fun. (I still remember the "miraculous" scene with the wheelchair and the operatic music score.) I also don't think I've seen any other reactors do it, which is kind of odd.

If you enjoyed this, you’ll go crazy laughing at Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988). Same vibe with Steve Martin and Michael Caine. Also directed by Frank Oz, of the muppets. This is a spin-off of that film. Hilarious with more twists and turns.

Grinznmore

If you haven't seen the original PINK PANTHER films with Peter Sellers you should check them out one day

I just noticed in the movie that when Dr. Marvin pushed Bob into the lake off the dock when Bob helped his son dive, that Bill Murray actually did a complete flip into the water. That dock is like 3 foot off the water. Cheers to Bill Murray on fully committing to a flip.

Murray said he meant to antagonize Dreyfuss to help get a better performance out of him. Dreyfuss claims Murray was drunk during filming and bullied him on set with no provocation. During the 90s, Murray was notorious for being difficult to work with (Lucy Liu and director McG said it was impossible to get Murray to focus while making CHARLIE'S ANGELS, so much so that he was replaced with Bernie Mac for the sequel). Over the past 20 years Murray has matured a great deal and people say he's a prince to work with now.

Jack the Narrator

I'm guessing movie star egos and different work methods. It sounds like Murray improvised a lot, which might have thrown Dreyfuss off his game. Also that Murray was intentionally pissing Dreyfuss off to make him give an angrier performance. There are some quotes from both of them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_About_Bob%3F#Production_difficulties

Patrick Flanagan

wait really? ok i need to read up on this, why did he hate working with him so much?

Cassie

Best quote of the movie: "GET OUT AH BAH BAH!"

WastedPo

This is absolutely an under appreciated gem. Yes, it’s a comedy about mental illness, when people were still allowed to laugh, if only for two hours. Too bad you didn’t film your reaction for the rewatch, I’m sure people would gladly watch again. I’m surprised more creators don’t do this. Murray and Dreyfus are brilliant in this movie. A couple of movies you might enjoy that have both of these actors in them. Bill Murray Zombieland - it’ll be a scary movie for you, but it’s mostly a comedy. Caddyshack - just because. Richard Dreyfus Stakeout 1 and 2 - both fun comedies. Mr. Holland’s Opus - it’s not a comedy, but it’s a beautiful story and one of Dreyfus’s best performances.

Andrew Hogan

I actually think it added to the film. You can absolutely tell the disdain he has for him in his reactions. I wonder if it was done purposely, knowing that’s what would happen or if Murray himself acted that way in order to get that sort of acting out Dreyfus.

Andrew Hogan

Funnily enough, Richard Dreyfuss absolutely DESPISED working with Bill Murray on this film.

Patrick Flanagan

Can’t wait to watch on YouTube

HorrorFan87

Funny one huh?! lol

Brandon Gibbs

I've always loved this movie. I'm glad you watched it.

Armchair Wizard

Bill Murray is a genius.

"Is this some type of radical new therapy?"

I feel good. I feel great. I feel wonderful. Dr. Marvin, I sail. I'm a sailor. I sail. Isn't this a breakthrough? That I'm a sailor? I sail? I sail now? Out on a boat? On a lake? Way far away from the dock? Into the wind and with the sky and everything? AHOY!!!!

Jack the Narrator

Loved this movie!!! Thanks for reacting to it, I hope you’re doing well and hope you have an amazing weekend!
