Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Extended Edition) - Full Reaction

Comments

Not sure if you aware of the fan made short movies Hunt for Gollum and another one I can't remember, but you clearly become a massive fan and worth a look on YouTube.

Daniel Mooney

Agree not a good idea to let Gríma go. He fed info to Saruman that accelerated and facilitate the attack on Helm's Deep. "Really should have killed that guy." Watched this movie in the theater back in 2002 at a midnight showing. The scene(s) with the tree-like creatures Ents attacking Isengard was incredible in theater. Stood out to me. Something I always remembered.

Clay F

This is still one the best reactions I've ever seen.

Richard Maurer

That coolest part that I'm jealous of is that you got to experience Gandalf come back as Gandalf the White. The beginning of this movie starts off crazy! Im going watch the last one tomorrow.

Joey

Seeing as I'm as nerd who struggles to connect with people and substitutes memorisation of lore for, y'know, a personality, this seems like as good a place as any to thank you for sharing your reactions by explaining what's going on with Arwen. In the cosmology of Middle-earth, Men, Elves, and Dwarves collectively are the Children of Iluvatar - Iluvatar being the creator deity of the world. The Children of Iluvatar are those beings given souls and free will by Iluvatar, and they have very distinct fates. Elves are literally immortal. They do not age, and don't die of sickness (jury is out on whether they can starve to death or die of thirst). Their bodies can be destroyed, or they can die of grief, but they don't die of old age. If/when an elf's body is slain, their spirit travels to the Halls of Mandos, a place of rest and healing in the far West, and in time they can leave Mandos in a new bodyand live in Valinor. Their spirits cannot leave the world - they're in the world forever. Of course, that doesn't make the process of having one's body destroyed a nice one; it's deeply traumatic, hence the need to recover in Mandos. Men have a different fate. Men of course are mortal, and subject to age and disease. But Men are also more free than elves. They're less subject to the winds of fate or destiny, and are able to make their own way through the world. And when they die, they wait only briefly in the halls of Mandos before they leave the circles of the world entirely, moving on to an unknown place. So when elves are parted, even by death, they know that eventually they'll meet again in the West - whether that be after they travel there by ship, or after they're slain and travel to Mandos. In all of elven history (at this point), only one elf has ever truly died and left the world - Luthien Tinuviel. Elrond wants Arwen to leave for Valinor now, because if Sauron regains the Ring then he'll be able to exert control over Elrond himself - that's the purpose of the Ring - putting Arwen in terrible danger. If Arwen chooses to remain in Middle-earth, she will eventually truly die and leave the world forever.

"the flock" made me laugh haha

CaleJTT

Waiting for the Carly reaction so will just have to settle for this again, heh heh

I'm back again. I never saw this with anyone who didn't know about Gandalf (the trailers at the time kinda gave it away) and the sheer excitement and joy you got seriously brought me to tears. I love watching these with you.

China Andronicus

Yeah, it was the same for me that I realized that really late. That's first due to the fact that I nearly always ignore/oversee movie names and second the fellowship overall plays such a literal role. I want argue about the value of the fellowship, but I mean just the screentime. It is over a half of the movie that the fellowship gets formed and it feels like it already fell apart in frodo"s mind before the last quarter of the movie.

KaffeeKind

I've watched all the youtube versions and have signed up for patreon just so I could watch the full length ones. Worth every minute of it!

Jonathan Hall

no problem! should be good to go now, thanks for your patience!

Cassie

+1

Vryce

Not a problem, thanks so much for the update Cass!!!

Mike Vasconcelos

Hey Mike! We are switching everything from Vimeo to YouTube and it should be available via the direct link tomorrow, and the downloadable version will be available in about 2 hours! Sorry for the inconvenience!

Cassie

Hey Paul! The downloadable version will be available in about 2 hours, and the direct link to the reaction will be available tomorrow. We are switching everything from Vimeo to YouTube, and it's quite the process! My audio is cleaned up in the new version so it's worth the wait!

Cassie

Same, cannot access!

Mike Vasconcelos

Can't access the video. Do you have another link?

Paul Green

Hey Cassie, I can't seem to watch this video. It says it's a private video :(

Vishnu

Faramir is legit the greatest male character in LotR. In the books he's never tempted by the ring, they add it for the film to add DRAMA. I understand, it ups the tension, but it diminishes what a fantastic character he is. I honestly love your reactions to this. Seeing Gandalf return, the kids reunited with their mom. I saw this film in theatres 8 times and God knows how many times I've seen it since but getting to see your reactions makes it seem like I'm back in high school when it was still new. Its great.

China Andronicus

I can't help but feel that you should react to the LOTR Appendices (behind the scenes)!

Michael

“Did Gandalf maybe not die?” Cassie, when you said that I yelled YES!!! Another great reaction! I forgot that it was a year between FOTR and TTT and forgot and loved how they introduced each member of the “squad” so epically when the movie started since we hadn’t seen them in so long. If you enjoy fantasy worlds like this with complex characters and good versus bad, you might like Game Of Thrones. I’m off to watch ROTK with you. It’s been a while… until next time…🍿

Tara

Tolkien himself may have wanted Christopher Lee (the OG most interesting man in the world) to be Gandalf, but I don't think anyone could've done Sauruman as well as he did.

Jon Masnari

At the end of the film when you realized that the "squad" was called the Fellowship of the Ring it is LITERALLY the title of the first movie"...I couldn't help but laugh and physically applaud you. LOL

Chris Reise

The scenes at 2:38:00 where they are gathering the children to fight reminds me of dreams my mother used to tell me about, where she was in the middle east and soldiers came to take all her children away to war. powerful stuff.

Gary Quick

You keep popping your knuckles while watching... :)

Gary Quick

Little known fact. When the first movie was in production, a request was put out for movie titles. Here are three of those suggestions. 1) The Flock of the Ring 2) The Little Group of the Ring 3) The Squad of the Ring All suggested by our very own PiB.

Hi Cassie! Just discovered your channel, so I'm a bit late to the game and just halfway through the Two Towers with you, but there are two things I'd like to share with you based on two of your comments. First: the language Eowyn (Miranda Otto) is singing in at Theodred's funeral is Old English or, as it is also known, Anglo Saxon. Professor Tolkien was fluent in the language and could recite Beowulf in its entirety in said language. Basically, the Rohirrm are Anglo Saxon's only with horses. Second, while the character of Gollum/Smeagol is CGI, he is voiced and MO capped by Andy Serkis, who should have gotten an Oscar for his performance. Sadly, it was such a new form of acting that it just wasn't recognized as "real acting" at the time these films were made. If you would like to see exactly how they brought Gollum/Smeagol to life check out the making of appendices for this movie, it's really fascinating. Also, if you would like to know more about Professor Tolkien you can check out the biopic "Tolkien" starring Nicholas Hoult as Tolkien and Lily Collins as the love of Tolkien's life and inspiration for the elf maiden Luthien Tinúviel, Edith Bratt and/or check out Humphrey Carpenter's and John Garth's excellent biographies "Tolkien: A Biography" and "Tolkien and the Great War." Anyway, I'm really enjoying the channel and your reactions and welcome to the Tolkien fandom.

Quacksalver Extraordinaire

My husband and I just found your channel and are currently watching your two towers reaction. Just wanted to say I think you have become our favorite reactor just for how invested you get in the story. I look forward to watching everything.

Midgey_M

The scene where Smeagol's Gollum side comes back is probably my example of "you wouldn't think this would make me cry, but it does" from this movie. It feels like it can be a metaphor for so many mental health issues; not just dissociative identity, but also a drug addict relapsing or a person experiencing suicidal ideation. Poor Smeagol. Meanwhile, Sam's speech about the importance of stories and holding onto hope is my "you WOULD think this would make me cry and yes... yes it does" of this movie. I'm glad the Gandalf twist was left unspoiled for you. A lot of people know Gandalf doesn't die in Fellowship because his cultural osmosis is too strong and they know he's in all the movies. I really like how both movies structure their endings in terms of how they leave you wanting more. Fellowship leaves you in a place where you feel like anything could happen. Frodo and Sam are striking out alone and basically defenceless, while Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are now on a mission to make up for a loss - saving Merry and Pippin - rather than working toward a win, like destroying the ring. Two Towers, on the other hand is kind of bittersweet. For Aragorn and company, they just won a decisive battle, same with Merry, Pippin and the Ents, and there's only the vague idea of danger looming on the horizon. Not all that bad. But Frodo and Sam are unaware that Gollum has returned and is plotting to kill them with a mysterious "her" figure. A much more directed kind of foreboding than the unknown type we got in Fellowship. Whether you're walking out of a theatre and have to wait a year, or if you plan on watching the next movie in a few days on home video, it's a great way to keep the audience engaged, curious and worried. Fantastic movies. Fantastic reaction. Thanks!

Derrick C. Shields

This was so fun to watch with you! My first time watching a whole movie with you over patreon. So much better than youtube! LOTR is my favorite movie series. Swells my heart every time I see it! It's so much fun watching it again with a first timer! Thanks for sharing!!! <3

ESO_PRIME

A reason why Gandalf did not remember his name is because he actually has many. Olorin is his real name, the one he was given at birth. Mithrandir is his name among men and elves. Greyhame to most men of the north, and Gandalf in the bree and shire regions. He was most fond of the name Gandalf.

LordGrailKnight

I Cry bitter tears when they go get the young boys from the caves to fight. Its heartbreaking to need to send a child to war and it really sends the message of just how dire the situation is.

LordGrailKnight

You mean "how can a Maiar die".

Radwar

In the Fellowship of the Ring, in the scene after Gandalf the Grey falls - when the fellowship is mourning on the slopes of the mountain, we see why Legolas seemed 'incredulous' and mournful, and not just lost and saddened like the others. You can almost see him asking "How can an angel die?"

Jay Kawala

Cassie, this was such a joy to watch! I have never seen a reaction with someone who is genuinely so caring and empathetic towards all of the characters and especially during the battle at Helm's Deep. I've seen these films so many times that I am a little desensitized to how terrifying the orcs actually are and how high the stakes were in that situation. Your reaction was a fresh take on one of my favorite parts of the film thank you so much! I look forward to watching Return of the King with you! Make sure you have a box of tissues handy lol

Nicole 5

A new subscriber and I just completed the reaction. Money well spent.

Henry from CO

The next one will make you ugly cry - I guarantee it

napalm755

The empathy you convey through these reaction videos are quite heartwarming and it makes the viewing of these epic movies far more enjoyable. Experiencing them again through new eyes brings both nostalgia and a sense of joyful peace to me. I love the story and these movies mean quite a lot to me on a personal level. I'm really happy I found your channel on YouTube and I am excited to see how your reaction to the last installment will be. I'm sure it will be great. Much light and happiness is sent to you and everyone here. <3 PS: Squad/Flock of the Ring made me smile and chuckle. It was quite sweet and funny. I will say that you are grasping much of the lore behind this quite quickly for someone going in blind. I'm very impressed!

Sindre Kristiansen

Incredible reaction. I am absolutely loving these. Thank you for the content. Really glad you're getting it, you'll watch these movies over and over and over again throughout the rest of your life, we're all LOTR fans for life now basically lol. Glad you have joined us.

E

Well that is just so nice and made my day!! Thank you so much for being here! These really are SO much better than I thought or could have imagined. I. finally GET IT! I didn’t know Gimli did tree beard too, wow he is such a talent!

Cassie

i didn’t realize that until after commenters mentioned it after the first, he was soooo great!

Cassie

Treebeard is voiced by John Rhys-Davies, who plays Gimli. He does lots of voice work, as you can imagine with that fantastic voice of his. These are honestly my favorite reactions to these movies I love so much. I’m a brand-new supporter and these movies are why. Your reactions are so genuine and it’s wonderful to see such positivity. You truly are a ray of pure sunshine on this platform, dear lady.

Aimee

John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) is awesome in every role. I loved him as Sallah in the Indiana Jones movies and I love him as Gimli!

Paul G

Glad you are watching these incredible movies. If you ever find the time, you should try to read the books by J.R.R. Tolkien. I grew up loving those wonderful books so these movies have a very special place in my heart. Every time I feel nothing but gratitude to Peter Jackson and his very talented team who put the greatest trilogy of all time together. And just wait till you watch the Return Of The King, the best is yet to come.

Steve Smith

I completely blanked 😂

Cassie

Lol, your intro was great!

Paul G

I waited all weekend for this reaction. And it didn't disappoint! Can't wait to see your reaction to the final movie. By the way, I literally laughed out loud when you said, "I don't want to play favorites, but Aragorn is my favorite!" LOL
