Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) - Full Reaction

Hey everyone! Here is my full reaction to Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition). I can see why people fell in love with these movies! This world is so fascinating and really pulls you in. I can't believe the cliff hanger it left us on! I'm watching the next one tomorrow night so we'll see what happens!

Also, I just got a new camera and this is the first reaction I filmed with it so there are a few hiccups... my mic quality is not great as I didn't have it set correctly, and the camera shut off twice. However, I've worked out the kinks so there should be no more issues moving forward. I provide a few places where you can visually sync the reaction with your own copy. I'm watching this on HBO Max and the timer I believe is right on with the reaction, so you should be able to sync the time if you have that same copy.

Thanks so much for being here and supporting the channel. It means so much to me. Love you all!

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) - Full Reaction

Comments

"It seems like too much to ask of them." The story of a hero is the story of someone who did more than should be asked of anyone. It's why we admire them and our hearts go out to them. A hero never wanted to be a hero.

James Melton

Because you asked about the elven language: Tolkien was a Philologist, he studied language. And he made the elven languages, sindarin and quenya up himself. It is an actual language, with rudimentary grammar, declinations and vocabulary. There are also courses that teach sindarin and quenya, it is actually not all that hard, if you have the vocabulary down.

MSP138

"Three Rings For Elven Kings." Do you know what happened to those three rings? Obviously, you should know that Galadrial has one. But who have the other two??? You know both.

Carlos Stevens

Carly's reaction is definitely worthwhile, but nothing beats Cassie's initial reaction.

Richard Maurer

The Shire is super cool. So is Rivendell. "Be at peace, Son of Gondor." -I did not retain much from reading the book 40-45 years ago while in high school/college, except for a few names and some context. -Watched the movie in the theater in 2001. -Watched bits and pieces of the movie when I bought the DVD for my kids in the late-2000s. -This year (2023), I streamed the movie 3 times and now realize how truly good the movie is. Giving up immortality is too drastic for me, no matter the circumstances. Just a personal gut feel.

Clay F

I haven't voluntarily watched the theatricals since the first time I watched the extended editions, so yeah, you probably won't be going back.

Richard Maurer

Was going to watch the YT edits for the umpteenth time. then I thought I haven't done a full watch along in a while, so why not watch one of the best (maybe even the best) reactions to LotR there is. This is my third time doing the full watch and I'm glad that made that decision.

Richard Maurer

My annual Christmas watch of the lord of the rings is with cassie this year. I love the change from "its almost 4 hours long (exasperated look and sigh)" to "wait, no!" As the credits start

Eric Wallace

If you're watching the extended 4K disc version, the disc swap is at 1:45:33 per Cassie's on screen timer.

AdrianF

I debated and debated on which video to watch, whether to watch the one with just Cassie or the ones with Carly, and I finally decided on this because this the the first and genuine reaction of Cassie watching these, as much as I wanted to have Carly's reaction, I love watching their initial reactions, perhaps later, I'll watch the Carly reactions.

JPDotCom23

Never seen the extended one unit this full reaction. It hits way different and probably ruined me, because I don't think I can go back to theatrical. At the same time I haven’t seen this movie in a while. It’s just so so great!

Joey

Second time watching this. I'm the one who said on your livestream that watching these with you brought me back to seeing them with my dad. He gave me the books when I was in fourth grade and it was one of the many dorky obsessions we shared together. Seeing you get so into the films brings me back to the two of us geeking out when the films first came out, and I can't thank you enough for it. <3

China Andronicus

Just wanted to let you know that the tactic of adding a free Full Reaction to the YT channel worked! LOL! I gave that a try alongside my iTunes copy of ROTK, and then I HAD to come over to Patreon to watch more Full Reactions! This is what will be up on my second screen today while I get a mountain of busy work done! :)

Jeremy Alexander

The youtube video that lead me to your channel. Decided i should go ahead and watch the patreon version.

Eric Wallace

First time watching a full reaction Cassie! Great job. Lots of fun. Looking forward to watching the next two with you.

Joshua Stormont

Why not both?

Colin Gutierrez

"Everyone needs a Sam." No, no. Everyone needs to BE a Sam.

Zachary Carter

The greatest story ever told!!!😀

Krusty “Topher”

I know I’m late to the party here and probably mentioned already but the director sets character deaths to slow motion. Also Gimli’s gift from Galadriel of 3 hairs, he braided them into his beard

Harbor Kat

Hey Cassie, I haven’t seen this movie in a long time and forgot some things that happened. I love watching movies with you. No matter what genre, you get so immersed in the world and care so much about the characters. The elf, Legolas, is Orlando Bloom who was in Pirates of the Caribbean. Boromir is played by Sean Bean and was on Game of Thrones yielding a sword in that too. He just has that look and has played that type of character in other movies. Gimli is John Rhys Davis and you recognized him from the Indiana Jones movie. He is actually around 6’1 so there were a lot of camera tricks during filming to make him and the hobbits shorter than they really are. I actually forgot about Aragon until I saw him at The prancing pony and you were afraid he was a bad guy, but I said don’t worry Cassie lol. The actor is Viggo Mortensen and one of my favorite movies is Hidalgo where he plays a real person Frank Hopkins back in the late 1800’s who was a horseman who won 400 long distance races and is challenged to a race in this movie. This is one that you should add to your list. I better end here. Until next time…🍿

Tara

I join your Patreon just to have someone to do my Christmas tradition with which is watching The Lord of the Rings with lots of sweets and a huge cup of hot coffee spiked with whipped cream, Baileys, white crème de menthe, Pernod, Cointreau, Amaretto and chocolate syrup. I’m gonna feel less alone with you by my side. Thank you.

Seabass

This was such a beautiful reaction!! I can’t wait to sit down and watch your reactions on the other two! Thank you for this reaction!

Amanda Whittington

Hahahah. Serves your dad right for raising a scaredy-cat kid, didn't get to watch his movie on Christmas day lol. Christ I was literally reading the The Hobbit and the trilogy at that age. Your childhood fascinates me, how it must have been for you to be so scared of everything. And crash your car multiple times before you were twenty. Craaaaazy.

RABooey

I wonder if PiBs 12 year old self would've like this movie as much, had she sat through and watched it at 12. Hmm.

ron young

I guess you didn't like the jump scare of Bilbo's face changing for a second, eh? LOL

Chris Reise

Because it’s a watch along. Can’t show the movie cause of copyright laws. You have to have your own copy to watch along.

brooke atkins

Tolkien was a professor of language and created many fictional languages such as elven using his vast knowledge of real languages.

Lucifer Moon

I. Just pade 8£ why the well is it blurry?!

Fred bates

I have a feeling it will be full of woke garbage.

Angela

Amazon is making a series based on the time of the 1st age.

Jayson Phillips

Your reactions are the sweetest things ever. Whether it’s from the casual mispronunciations, to watching you become so enveloped in a story you had no idea about it just kept me smiling the entire time I watched. Something that is becoming increasingly harder and harder to do, so thank you for that.

JustSpud

Thank God Jackson had the strength and foresight to shoot them all at the same time.

softshoes

"Couldn't they have made it a couple feet wider? for SAFETY!" is adorable and hilarious. Love your reactions. I joined your Patreon for Band of Brothers and The Pacific, but your reactions to the extended LotR films are a real joy.

Jen Barnes

Oh, and we had to wait a YEAR

LordGrailKnight

I always love to see a new face come to the wonder and beauty that is this simple heartfelt story of good overcoming evil. Its not complicated, its just sweet. The world is deep but the story is timeless and speaks to the heart of every soul that has ever faced hardship.

LordGrailKnight

Thanks Jake, that makes sense. Didn’t think of it. I don’t have the capability.

Gabriel Moline

you need to sync with your own copy of the film

Jake H

What? There is no sound or picture?

Gabriel Moline

In the Mines of Moria initial fight scene (with the cave troll) Cassie asks why doesn't Gandalf cast a spell? As far as I know, the powers of evil can 'feel' the work of good, in the same way that Legolas and the other elves can intuit the presence of evil. So if Gandalf had cast more than a simple light spell while in the mines, the Balrog would have detected his presence, and would have pounced on the fellowship in an instant. Who knew all you needed was one 'Fool of a Took' to accomplish the same goal?

Jay Kawala

Gollum's song is beautiful yet haunting. I remember reading the books for the first time and becoming attached to Gollum/Smeagol. He is one of my favorite characters throughout - his story is so painful and powerful. I remember crying when reading the book about his misery. I became interested in mental health after reading those. Gollum's Song really hits - "These tears we cried are falling rain, for all the lies you told us; the hurt the blame....we are lost, we can never go home" But Annie Lenox's "Into The West" to close out movie 3, is one of my favorite songs ever. We played it at my dad's funeral and i told my wife I want it at mine as well some day. She soars with that song and it hits the feels every time I hear it.

TL-Hero

True. But he struggled with pride which is what the ring preyed on. I always felt Boromir was one of the parts of the movies where Peter Jackson did not do it justice. Boromir in the books was a much greater hero than the movies let on. Also his horn of Gondor is a true legendary artifact in Middle-Earth, and it is never truly explained or touched on at all. For instance, the sound it makes could be heard throughout an entire land. The quote is: "if it be blown at need anywhere within the bounds of Gondor, its voice will not pass unheeded." Boromirs brother and father heard his blowing of the horn where he came to the hobbit's aid on the banks of Parth Galen. And in Moria, he sounded the horn which scattered the advancing orcs, and even caused the Balrog to pause it's advance. The movie portrays the orcs scattering because of the Balrog - but it was the horn in the books. So Boromir in essence gave the fellowship their ability to flee.

TL-Hero

Thanks for the reaction Cassie. Love these films. As you may have noticed they are not quite as long as it might seem from the time, as there is like a half hour of credits for each. Still pretty long though :) Please stick around for the early bits of the credits though. There's a great song at the end of each, especially 'Gollums Song" after Two Towers, as well as some nicer Trilogy ending sketches and such for the last one.

AgentFalcon

Yeah, it was long. I'd never read it, but for some reason went to see the movie in theaters and got hooked. Spent like a day or 2 later downloading a bad cam-copy of the movie to re-watch again and again. Then read the books and was in full fan mode for the Two Towers and Return.

AgentFalcon

First of all to answer your closing question - how long did we have to wait A WHOLE YEAR!! between each movie. But then again, I waited 20 years to finally see my favorite books become the movies they did. Anyone truly that desperate to know what happened to Merry and Pipin could have picked up the books and read the second book. Speaking of which - you seemed shocked that it ended when it did. The Lord of the Rings was originally intended/written as one book. The publisher balked at a 900 pg book and begged for it be broken into 3 parts. So Tolkien separated one book into three parts; the first two without a real ending; unlike a traditional trilogy. Yes JR Tolkien invented the language of Elvish and the others. Many casual fans of the movie franchise do not ever truly grasp the depth of talent and creativity of this man. The entire history of a made-up world we imagined and written. His son picked up where he left off. The amount of depth of this world takes up a dozen volumes of encycopedias. At it's core it's a story of good and evil, hope and despair. Tolkien was a devout Christian and those values are cemented in the world. The characters are so wonderfully developed and portrayed in these movies. The dialogue is poetic. Your line 'Everyone needs a Sam' was so heartwarming. I first read these books when I was about 15. Sam was (and still is) my favorite by far. Sean Astin plays him so gorgeously. It is a real shame he was not nominated for an acting award. You can now see why so many are so passionate about this franchise. It is truly epic. This movie series will make you love, make you hate, it make you laugh hysterically, and make you cry numerous times. It is an amazing roller coaster of emotions; and it all starts with the writing of the story, and the characters, and truly feeling the depth of their plight and emotions - doing what must be done in face of overwhelming horror and evil. And the values of love, courage, honor, loyalty, and fellowship - and how they triumph over wicked and fell deeds. It lifts us up and gives us something to believe in and hope for in our own world. Finally, you mentioned upon seeing Arwen - that she was the reason so many boys was in love with the show. i'll say to that - liv was very beautiful as Arwen. i'll be honest - I was very skeptical of her being cast, but was pleasantly surprised and admit I unfairly prejudged it. That being said - it was not her that captured my heart - when I read the books, I fell in love with Eowyn (whom you'll meet in Vol.2.).; the shieldmaiden of Rohan. I remember being a young man and dreaming of a woman like her. And Miranda Ott (who plays her) was so perfect. I remember seeing it for the first time in the theaters, and she took my breath away. I had been in love with Eowyn most of my life. The only love i've had longer than my own wife hehe. I had been thinking of subbing on your Patreon for a while, because I've loved your YouTube stuff, but the moment I saw you doing LOTR, which I am diehard passionate about, I did not bat an eye. These movies have a special place in my heart - not just because they were my childhood heroes and dreams come to life, but they were movies I went to each one with my father; he loved them and we would watch them together every year. God called him home in 2014. And I still watch these to honor that part our relationship but I never get through them with dry eyes. You gave me a great reason to remember him again tonight, and i love you for that. Your virtual company was so nice as well; i love your smile, it warms the whole room when you dote on something sweet and innocent. I can't wait to see the other two.

TL-Hero

Hello Cassie.. i really love the LotR movies. Thank you for uploading these (and even the extended version). And you going to watch the 3 Hobbit movies too (should exually be watched before LotR) but thats fine.

R.BGames37

I'm very happy to see you reacting to the extended editions. I hope you continue to do so, because the next two extended editions contain lots of great scenes that were not in the theatrical cuts, scenes that in my opinion were very necessary to the story.

MotoDork

Sean Austin is also in Memphis Belle!

Catherine LW

Stephen Colbert is a real JRR Tolkien nerd. I'd like to see Catherine and him go back and forth to see who knows the most obscure trivia. Sam is played by Sean Austin. He also played Rudy in the film by that name. It sounds like you've already seen Rudy but that is a good non-war non-horror movie. It even makes us guys swear that someone is cutting onions.

Kevin

Boromir showed his true courageous self in the end when he took three arrows and still kept fighting to protect Merry and Pippen. That was the real Boromir, not the one who was tempted by the ring.

Steve Smith

He created about 15 elven languages, most notably Quenya and Sindarin. I think they were based on some ancient Gaelic (Brythonic) and Scandinavian languages.

Catherine LW

Also, when you finish this trilogy, you should check out the move Tolkien. It is about the author and explores how he developed this world.

Howy Snipper

Something else to throw into the mix. While the extended editions tried to do a little bit better, Boromir didn't get a completely fair portrayal in the movies. He definitely wasn't as bad as his character seems on screen compared to the books.

Howy Snipper

To answer the question if they created the elvish language that they're speaking in the movie, If I recall, the author of the lotr books was a linguist and basically created the elvish language.

Matt

It seems like it fixes itself a little bit at some point actually, the desync. Maybe its just me though. Still very watchable! :)

E

For people that it might get desynced with, her timer is about 6-7 seconds ahead! Amazing reaction so far btw, with some of these scenes of Mordor of course any little girl would be terrified hahaha. Glad you're getting into them for real now though! Excited to watch the rest rn

E

No way! Yes that must have been SO exciting though to go wait and see in theatres, what a rush!! I can’t wait for the next two!

Cassie

yes! planning on it!

Cassie

A War history buff and A LOTR nerd!! You have it all. I want to read the books after, did the movies do them justice?

Cassie

To answer your question there at the end, we had to wait a whole year. All three films were shot at the same time over like a 15-18 month period (I forget), and each film was released one year apart from the other. The Fellowship in December 2001, Two Towers in December 2002, and Return of the King in December 2003. And yes, the wait was brutal! Really glad to see that you liked this. If you liked Fellowship, you'll definitely like the next two. They're all excellent films of high quality. Can't wait to see your next two reactions!

Joel P

Can't wait for the next two, will they also be the extended editions?

Jake H

Yay! My favorite movies of all time! I’m a big Tolkien geek- must have read the books at least 20 times! If I had to choose to live anywhere in Middle Earth, it would be the Shire because I’m a Hobbit at heart. At work now but will watch it all later! So excited!!! 😁

Catherine LW

HERE WE GO !!!!
