Alien (1979) - Full Reaction

Comments

Yes, definitely watch the sequel, Aliens. I think it's one of the best sequels ever made. My husband and I saw this movie in the theater back in 1979, and couldn't even talk about it when we left the theater. We always talked about the movies after they were over, but not this one. I think it's the scariest movie I have ever seen.

Chryss Guiler

I like going back and watching movie reactions that I missed. You have come far when it comes to handling horror movies. By Halloween 2025, you should be ready for The Exorcist, which really isn't as scary as you have made yourself believe.

Eddie Perkins

Why are videos like this and Airplane no longer available?

China Andronicus

Same for me. Moreover, I did log in, and it still said I did not have permission to watch it.

Herman Orff

Not sure if anyone will see it but the Vimeo link is asking you to login to see the full reaction for Alien.

Hi Cassie, by the time I’m watching this. It’s been months since you reacted to it. I saw it years ago and didn’t remember anything other than Ripley was the sole survivor. I’ve seen Aliens and now I remember why she wanted nothing to do with robots in the sequel. In the beginning, you mentioned that you recognized an actor. I know that you have seen at least 3 of the crew in other reactions. The captain, Dallas, played by Tom Skerritt has been in a lot of movies He played Viper in Top Gun. The flight instructor who flew with Maverick’s dad. Ian Holm played Ash the robot and he also played The older Bilbo Baggins from LOTR. Brett who went looking for the cat and you commented on the water was played by Harry Dean Stanton and he was in The Green Mile playing the older inmate who they used for the rehearsals. Well, I guess I’ll be watching your reactions to Aliens next. It’s been a long time since seeing that one also. If I remember correctly, I liked it better.

Tara

This was the YouTube video that brought me here, I saw Alien when I was 3 and except for when Alien: Isolation came I'd never been scared of these creatures. This is the closest I can get to seeing how an audience would've responded in 1979 before the Alien was so big in popular culture and the surprises were gone. Dan O'Bannon and H. R. Giger were such incredible creative geniuses.

Dustin Nelson

A bit of trivia i don't think anyone mentioned. Ian Holm plays Ash (The Robot). He is also Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings.

Groovy Reacts

Well you get a break in Aliens. It's more of an an action film with equal amount of suspense

Anakin Starkiller

I want to watch the sequel for sure, especially if it is more action and we get more Ripley!

Cassie

That is an amazing tagline!

Cassie

Oh boy! haha need to invest in a heart monitor first maybe haha

Cassie

Ok that makes sense. I thought it was like the Alien sweat or something at first haha

Cassie

I don’t think it’s a plot hole. I think it’s bc they’re expendable, and the alien needs bodies to cocoon. The objective was to bring it back (though maybe they didn’t think it through).

Be Kind

I'm going to agree with the other comments here, PLEASE do yourself and us a favor and watch the sequel "Aliens". It's not a horror film, it's more sci-fi action.

Greg McDaniel

Must watch the sequel Aliens

Albert

It is a bit of a plot hole. Why would the company send this ragtag group to get this alien that is basically the perfect predator? Why not a full soldier platoon with scientists in tow? Why not a bunch of androids? If you think too much, the story gets thin, but it's a good flick regardless.

Labcurmudgeon79

Aliens! 86% less horror, 110% more action! Better humor, better ensemble, better redemption arc, better Ripley! Mommy arc that I think Cassie will connect with.

Jon Johns

Definitely watch the 1986 sequel 'Aliens'. Then, watch 'Spaceballs' for a certain.....continuity, haha.

Derik De Baun

Yeah I agree, Aliens is an excellent watch after this.

Jake H

I'm sure most of your Patreons will want you to watch Aliens. If you liked Ripley in Alien well then you'll absolutely love her in Aliens.

Anakin Starkiller

A cinematic horror masterpiece. Thats why its still good today.

Cornelius P. Stranglefart, Attorney at Law D.D.S.

The Thing is a masterpiece. Dun...dun, dun...

Zachary

Great reaction! This is one of my favorites. It's very worth watching the sequel, Aliens (1986). I think you'd actually prefer that one. Really great cast, story, and effects (for it's time of course). If you're feeling brave, I'd also highly recommend The Thing (1982). IMO thats probably the most suspenseful science fiction horror movie ever made, before or since.

Alec Picard

The cooling system was damaged but Dallas said we can take off without that. So it's condensation from the damaged cooling system that's making it rain in the room where Brett gets killed.

Tony Gunk

Dan O'Bannon also wrote and directed The Return of the Living Dead, a vastly underrated 80s zombie movie full of comedy and horror and Punk culture.

Tony Gunk

Great react Cassie! I wasn't excited for you to watch this because of how scary it is but I glad you were able to watch this because of the cinematic impact it had. This movie is over 40 years old but still terrifying. From a film making standpoint it really is a masterpiece. When this movie was made with the exception of Star Wars there really wasn't any sci fi space movie that made an impact like it did. But the pacing, slow in the beginning but constantly building to a frantic building, brilliant set design, masterful use of sound(or lack thereof), as well as amazing lighting built a movie that holds up and is scaring people 40 years later. They also made a bunch of bold choices for a movie in the 70s. The crew was strikingly blue collar and the main hero was a women in a movie that passed the Bechdel test even before that even existed. Until the end when she was is very skimpy underwear she was the everyman and really put her on the map. And instead of using a lot of CGI it was all real fx and clever use of lighting, smoke, and camera work. Think back, we rarely saw the monster move at all. Just use sound, environment, lighting, and the unknown to scare us. Brilliant classic that still stands in a class of its own. While I am sorry you got so scared, I am glad you watched it so you can appreciate one of the great films of our time. Everyone else is right too. The next film switches from sci-fi horror to sci-fi action and is great in its own right. It goes quickly downhill after that though, unfortunately.

MattN

Don’t give up on sci-fi thrillers! I think you’d love The Terminator. It’s sci-fi, suspense and a love story all wrapped in one roller coaster film!

Catherine LW

I forgot that one. Cassie's "baby alien on the loose" line came along in the middle of taking a drink of my diet coke and it came back up through my nose 😊

Kevin Grande

You have to find out what happens to Ripley! You should watch one more in the franchise and that is Aliens! Not as scary, more of a popcorn summer action film but well worth the time.

Michael Rhine

Gross But Fun Fact: Originally, there was a scene in the final act of the film, during Ripley's escape from the Nostromo, where she finds Brett and Captain Dallas in one of the lower decks. They had been cocooned by the xenomorph (that's the official name of the "alien" by the way) and were both in varying stages of "eggmorphing"; a process in which their bodies are used as nutrient supply for a new egg to be created. In hindsight, it seems odd that this was cut, because it clarifies the life cycle of the xenomorph from egg to facehugger to chest-burster to adult xeno, who then finds victims to restart the cycle. Not only that, the movie goes out of its way to specify they never found the bodies of Brett or Dallas, and that Dallas specifically was taken with no blood present. It kind of sets up a mystery without a payoff. But director Ridley Scott apparently found it to interfere with the flow of the final act, so it was cut. Great reaction, this was a fun rewatch. I've probably seen this movie the most out of all the ones you've reacted to, save for the Back to the Future series. If you're unsure about whether you want to watch the sequel, Aliens, you should know it's not overtly "horror", but more like action-horror, I guess? It's a little bit more merciful with the suspense and jumpscares is what I mean. Might be a little easier to handle. On the other hand, it's just as gory - maybe even a teeny bit more. Looking forward to whatever comes next, regardless!

Derrick C. Shields

I’d never seen this extended edition before, and while it did add info to the lore, I thought the theatrical version got to things a lot quicker w/o sacrificing suspense, tension or scares. Maybe an unpopular opinion. Btw, the tagline on the poster is, “In space, no one can hear you scream.” One of the best taglines and horror films imo.

Be Kind

Such a great reaction! Might’ve been a bit much for you, but you handled it like a champ. Now you’ve seen arguably the best/scariest monster ever created for film. The Predator is a close second, and interestingly, there is a movie called Alien vs. Predator to see which would win in a fight.

Be Kind

You were a trooper for hanging in there through this one Cassie. A few gory parts but the suspense lasts throughout. I hope your head and laptop are ok 😊 I hadn’t seen this one in a while and it was good to see it again with a friend.

Kevin Grande

Now you gotta see the other classics, like Aliens, Terminator 1 and 2, Predator, The Thing, Red Dawn there's just so many to go through ahaha.

Matt

Loved your “baby alien on the loose” comment. Also, “Uhm, perhaps they should have a weapon? Or a spacesuit? Though that didn’t seem to help that guy.” 😆

Be Kind

Who ever picked this for you is pretty mean. It is one of the scariest/intense films of the last 40 years. Your reaction was great and you handled it well. The sequel (Aliens) is an over the top action flick that is also really funny. (The tag line from the original film was, "This movie will blow you out of the back of the theater.!") My buddy and I left the theater and I said well it didn't blow us out of the theater. He quickly replied, "Yeah, but it sure did try.!!" You will love it.!

Baldielox

You should be worried about all those eggs!

Allen Bond

What a classic! You're a trooper Cassie and your smile at the end is priceless.

Zachary

Never clicked so fast on a posting hehe. You just wait til you get into the sequel, it gets epic.
