Band Of Brothers Part 2 - Full Reaction

Good reaction. Thank you.

Clay F

I'm rather new here. I'm so glad I hadn't watched your reaction to this yet. I get to watch this in honor of Memorial Day this year. Didn't agree with this year's pick. I watched it with you though, Cassie. I know it's silly, but I wanted to support you through it.

Reece Coventree

Think Sobel could have led that assault Cassie?

I know I'm late to the party here. I just became a patron, but I agree about the music. The opening credits music is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard. That combined with the images makes it the best opening of all time, in my opinion.

I feel it might help you to know that during the first 24 Hrs of operation overlord, there are No Confirmed cases where prisoners' where shot by Airborne troops. It is still importent to know however that there was a standing order that for the first 24HRS of the invasion and until the unit was relieved No Air Born Unit was allowed to take and hold enemy troops as Prisoners'. Now the logic behind this may be lost on some but it was a Life saving measure. If you take a prisoner you are responsible for there well being, food and water as well as guarding them. Being behind enemy lines for the unforeseeable future this was to Dangerous. Releasing them was not an option either. Officers where told to "Handle them as they seen fit based on there units situation in a manner that would best suet there situation".

I ran across this video on Youtube - it describes the historical version of this episode's main focus. It's largely consistent with the episode, though I wonder why some of the changes were made. I suppose pacing of the action sequences mostly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=814qEsxSzmA

I'm honestly scared for your reaction to Carentan. Probably the most brutal episode in the series.

coreymcrann

"loving all of them"... even Cobb? He ticked me off in this episode bullying the new recruits. It's been many years since I've watched this series, and I don't recall how I feel about him later on. Guess we'll see :)

Jay Kawala

Same, I feel like now is when I really have a desire to learn more about the history of WWII, it is so hard to think about though, all the lives lost, it's hard to comprehend.

Cassie

Yes! I'm loving getting to know their personalities more as we are getting to know them better. At this point today I have watched up to #4 and I'm just loving all of them. At first I thought a Luger was a knife, now that you mentioned this I'm remembering that moment in the first episode and have since learned it is a gun!

Cassie

Yes, I'm not sure why I was confused thinking they were dropping a few days before D day.

Cassie

Enjoyed that reaction, Cassie. Your face was so intense throughout most of it. 🥺 Rightfully so. Such a contrast with your reaction-face during "Airplane." 😆

Jimmy Crackcorn

That was Hoobler. Although both Malarky and Hoobler wanted a Luger. Those two at the beginning look kinda the same but later see a big difference between them

Logan Serfass

Thanks Logan, I've always mixed up the two in that sequence I guess. Was it Hoobler that spoke to the British soldier, or was that Malarkey as well?

Jay Kawala

The person who ran Into the field for the gun was Malarky. Not Hoobler

Logan Serfass

The older I get the more I love the history around this time period but at the same time it breaks my heart all of the people who died, especially like he said, men that weren't even old enough to drink. I remember when I went to college I would see kids on campus in their BDUs with shaved heads straight out of boot camp in the ROTC program. I knew they were going to Afghanistan or Iraq sometime in the near future. I went to school a bit later in life, so I am 26-27 looking at 18 year kids getting ready to go off to war and it broke my heart every single time.

MattN

In the first episode, we saw one of the characters (Hoobler) from Easy Company interact with a British soldier dressed up in a Nazi uniform, and ask if the Brit had a luger Hoobler could see. The Brit wouldn't let Hoobler walk off with the pistol to show his friends. In this episode, when Hoobler ran out into the open in search of his souvenir, it showed how balsy/rash he could be. In episode one we got to know Nixon and Winters, but now some of the others are becoming more three dimensional. It's a lot to fit into a single episode, and it goes by so quickly as Cassie said

Jay Kawala

The airborne dropped shortly after midnight on June 6th 1944 into Normandy the same day as the landings on the Normandy coast as seen in saving private ryan which started at around 6:30 in the morning. Hopefully that helps with the timeline. :)

Hey Hey! Love your reaction! This episode showed them dropping the night before the beach landings, so the whole episode was D-Day. the guns they destroyed were shooting at the landing boats on the beach. Its crazy when you think about the coordination that had to happen for this invasion to be successful. Seriously can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of the series! :D

Logan Sandoval

I am like you the music combined with the images are heartbreaking.
