PNG vs JPG
Added 2020-07-04 17:03:05 +0000 UTCIn the interest of simplifying my export process and file size limits, I was considering dropping exported PNG files for practicality's sake, and switching to only exporting JPGs, for a handful of reasons.
- Size: PNG files are big. My map archives routinely reach 200mb, especially for the larger maps. This means they take up space on my drive, but also that it's often difficult to upload maps where I make some 10 to 18 variants instead of the normal 5. A 30x30 PNG map can easily reach 10mb, which also makes it unusable for Roll20, if you use that.
- Processing: Exporting both PNG and JPG files takes twice as long as just doing one.
- Quality: JPGs really irritate the part of me that cares about design issues like compression artifacts, but for the sake of actually playing with the maps, it's practically a non-issue.
I'd like to know if they were actually appreciated, though, so I won't make any change without your input.

I guess it doesn't really matter, but personally I prefer PNGs for the kind of work you do. JPGs always look great for photos, but for artwork, they tend to have problems. I zoom in a lot on the battlemaps and would prefer to not see a bunch of compression artifacts.
