Commissions Information
Added 2020-03-10 22:01:11 +0000 UTCBefore you commission,
- My default resolution is 140ppi. If you want a specific resolution for some reason (i.e. if you want something for print), please inform me ahead of time.
- Paypal is what I use for transactions.
- Cryptocurrency is also acceptable - I specifically take BTC, AVAX. If you want to pay in another currency, I can see about that too.
- I require half of any payment up front, but patrons are exempt from this.
- It's good to know what you're looking for ahead of time. For example, if you have a sketch or a reference image, that's great - as is an idea of the theme or environment you'd like depicted in the map. Old and dusty attics, harsh and foggy rainforests.
- Commercial use or public display may have extra licensing fees or costs, and you must inform me of this. Exclusive commercial projects with full license transfer will involve higher production fees, for example, as I would not be able to monetize it myself in the future.
- If you're on a tight schedule, please inform me ahead of time.
- I don't draw regional maps. Specifically, stuff like city or village overview maps. I am not talented with or particularly interested in drawing them. I do and have drawn battlemaps set in cities/villages, though.
If you're still unsure about the process of commissioning art (for example, if you've never done it before), Luka Rejec has written a straightforward article about it, much of which is also applicable to battlemap artists such as myself.
Sketch Map

This is a fully-colored map sketch done with a thick charcoal brush. They're quick & cheap to do and can end up looking pretty nice. The above is an older test map so expect it to look a fair bit prettier than that - but the bold outlines and simple details is essentially what you can expect.
- Base price is ( [ width * height ] * $0.10 ) rounded up to the nearest dollar, or roughly 10 cents per square. A 22x17 map, the perfect size for four US Letter or A4 sheets (or one A2 sheet) is $38.
- Additional factors include complexity (flat desert dunes are easy, a packed cyberpunk residential apartment is hard) and desired variants (repainting lighting for different times of day, etc). I use a cartoonish bold-lined style for these sketches, so excessive detail is not really possible.
Full Color Detailed Map

These maps take about three days to a week to draw, but the results are gorgeous.
- Base price is ( [ width * height ] * $0.80 ) rounded up to the nearest dollar, or roughly 80 cents per square. A 22x17 map, the perfect size for four US Letter or A4 sheets (or one A2 sheet) is $300.
- Complexity is a big factor in the price and time taken to draw. Price may range by up to ~25% depending on the detail requested. Variants may be free (if they're quick and easy) or not (if you want half the map's features and assets changed).
- If I can keep the rights for the work and you allow me to publish it on marketplaces in the future, you can get a price reduction of up to ~30% depending on how suitable it is for sale. If you want an exclusive product, I can't give this discount.
Topographical World Maps

I'm capable of drawing world maps too! I did a couple of detailed topographical maps for Pokemon in the past, and with a bit of rejiggering I can put together a fairly wide range of custom topographical/political maps.
- Base price is variable, but roughly - $150 for a small custom regional map for which you have all the information on, up to $200 for larger maps, and $300+ for full-scale region maps of, say, any fictional world that I have to do my own research on. Estimates will be based on time required for communication and organization, research, and drawing.
