"Oi! Watch where you're flying that thing!"
The shrill buzz of a drone cut through the park's tranquil afternoon air, circling dangerously close to Maggie's head. She swatted at it, her massive hand barely missing the agile device.
"Sorry, lady! Just trying to get some cool footage!" A lanky teenager shouted from a nearby bench, controller in hand.
Maggie's eyes narrowed behind her thick-rimmed glasses. "Footage? Of what? The inside of my nostrils?"
The drone swooped lower, its camera lens glinting in the sunlight. Maggie's silver hair whipped around her face as she dodged the mechanical nuisance.
"Come on, it's not every day you see an Amazon in the wild!" the boy chuckled, clearly amused by her discomfort.
"In the wild?" Maggie's voice dropped to a dangerous growl. "I'll show you wild, you little twerp!"
With surprising agility for her 7'4" frame, Maggie lunged forward. Her tight grey shirt strained against her muscles as she snatched at the drone, missing it by inches.
"Whoa! Easy there, big girl!" The boy's eyes widened, a mix of fear and excitement crossing his face.
"Big girl?" Maggie's face flushed red. "I'll give you 'big girl'!"
In one fluid motion, she ripped a nearby park bench from its concrete moorings, hoisting it above her head like it was made of cardboard.
"Oi! You can't do that!" A park security guard came running, his voice cracking with panic.
Maggie grinned wickedly. "Watch me."
With a mighty heave, she launched the bench skyward. It collided with the drone in a spectacular crash of wood and plastic.
"My drone!" the boy wailed.
"My bench!" the guard squeaked.
Maggie dusted off her hands, a satisfied smirk playing on her lips. "My park. Quiet at last."
As debris rained down around them, the stunned onlookers could only gape at the Amazon's display of strength and temper.
Maggie smoothed down her skirt and adjusted her glasses. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a book to finish. In peace."
She strode off, leaving the guard and the drone pilot to deal with the aftermath. Just another day in the park, ten years after the world changed.
