Looking for a roommate (Pt. 1) (3 image interactive story)

As the sun peeked over the horizon, Eric’s alarm buzzed loudly, rousing him from a restless sleep. Today was a crucial day. After losing his job as a construction worker to Amazon women, he was on the hunt for a new place to live. His bachelor’s loft was no longer affordable, and the clock was ticking.

He rubbed his eyes and grabbed his phone from the nightstand. He scrolled through the messages and rechecked the details of his appointments for the day. Three potential roommates to meet, three places to see. He dressed quickly, grabbed a cup of coffee, and set out for the first stop.

Monica’s place was just a few blocks from his current address. The neighborhood was quiet, with tree-lined streets and well-maintained buildings. He found the address, took a deep breath, and knocked on the door.

The door opened to reveal a towering figure. Monica, even more imposing in person, stood before him, a warm smile on her face. “Hi, you must be Eric. Come on in.”

Eric stepped inside, craning his neck to look up at her. Monica’s graphic t-shirt clung to her muscular frame, and her jeans looked like they were barely containing her powerful legs. Despite her intimidating appearance, her demeanor was gentle and welcoming.

“Thanks for seeing me, Monica. The place looks great from the outside,” Eric said, trying to keep his nerves in check.

Monica nodded, leading him through the apartment. “No problem at all. Let me show you around.”

The apartment was spacious and well-lit, with modern furniture and a cozy feel. Monica showed him the living room, kitchen, and bathroom before taking him to the available bedroom.

“This would be your room,” she said, opening the door to a tidy, comfortably sized space. “I work from home, so I’m usually in my room or the home office. I’m pretty quiet and keep to myself most of the time.”

Eric glanced around, appreciating the room’s size and the overall vibe of the apartment. “It looks great, Monica. I appreciate you showing me around.”

Monica smiled again, a hint of shyness in her expression. “Of course. If you have any questions, just let me know.”

Eric nodded, feeling a bit more at ease. They chatted for a few more minutes about the neighborhood and the logistics of living together. Monica mentioned she was into gaming and tech, which explained the multiple monitors and gaming setup in the living room.

After they wrapped up the tour, Eric thanked her. “I really like the place, but I have two more appointments to see today. I’ll let you know my decision as soon as I can.”

Monica nodded understandingly. “Take your time. It’s a big decision. Just give me a call when you’ve made up your mind.”

Eric left Monica’s apartment feeling optimistic. He liked Monica, and the place was nice. She seemed like the introverted, nerdy type, which was a bit ironic given her 7'9" stature and muscular build. But he appreciated her straightforwardness and the quiet atmosphere of the apartment.

Eric drove to his next appointment in a fancy part of the city. Normally, he wouldn’t even consider looking for available rooms in this upscale neighborhood, but he had found what seemed like a good deal. He chatted with Cristal, the woman who posted the listing, the night before. She explained that the reason for the low price was because she worked from home as a spiritual coach and often had clients over. If he could look past that, he was more than welcome to check out the place.

Following her instructions, Eric knocked at the door. Cristal opened it, revealing herself to be quite tall—maybe not as tall as Monica, but still towering over Eric. She had a bubbly and chatty demeanor, immediately making Eric feel at ease.

“Hi, you must be Eric! Come on in!” Cristal greeted him warmly.

Eric stepped inside, taking in the apartment’s unique atmosphere. It was filled with candles, crystals, and plants, giving it a serene, mystical vibe.

“Thanks for having me,” Eric said, trying to sound enthusiastic.

Cristal led him through the apartment, chatting non-stop about her work. “So, as I mentioned, I’m a spiritual coach. I help women accept and embrace their transformed bodies after the virus. It’s really fulfilling work, but it does mean I have clients over quite often. I hope that’s not a problem for you.”

Eric shook his head. “No problem at all. It sounds interesting, actually.”

He glanced around, noticing more crystals and spiritual paraphernalia scattered throughout the rooms. While Cristal’s personality was infectious, the heavy spiritual vibe was a little off-putting for him. He kept his reservations to himself, not wanting to seem rude.

Cristal showed him the available room, which was cozy and well-decorated. “This would be your space. It’s small, but I think it has a lot of character.”

Eric nodded, appreciating her enthusiasm. “It looks great. I really like what you’ve done with the place.”

They chatted a bit more about the logistics of living together, and Eric found himself connecting well with Cristal despite his initial reservations. However, he couldn’t shake the feeling that the spiritual atmosphere might be a bit too much for him in the long run.

After thanking Cristal for her time, he left the apartment and drove to his third and final appointment of the day. This one was in a more modest part of town, but he was hopeful that it might be a good fit.

While driving, Eric thought that maybe living with an Amazon woman wouldn't be the best idea. They were just so different from him now. But at least his last appointment wouldn't be with one. On the profile picture of the contact, there was an old man and what seemed to be his daughter, but she wasn't an Amazon woman; she was just a regular, skinny woman with heavy goth makeup. The profile name was Alex, so Eric didn't know who the profile belonged to, but if it was one of the two people in the picture, he had nothing to worry about. He was still thinking about this when he knocked on the door, and a massive goth woman answered.

"Oh great," he thought. He was down on his luck.

The woman was cold and demeaning, introducing herself as Alex. She showed him the place without much interest, her towering presence making the small apartment feel even smaller.

"Um, hi, Alex. Thanks for showing me the place," Eric said, trying to be polite.

"Yeah, whatever," Alex replied, barely looking at him. "This is the living room, and the kitchen's over there. Your room is down the hall."

Eric followed her, trying to make small talk. "So, I noticed the profile picture was a bit outdated. Who are the people in it?"

Alex brushed off his question. "Oh, that? Haven't had time to update it. This is your room. It's small, but it should fit you," she said with a smirk, looking him up and down.

Eric felt a flush of embarrassment. "Yeah, it looks fine," he said, peering into the tiny room.

Alex continued the tour with a lack of enthusiasm, making subtle but mean comments along the way. "I work at a gaming store in the nearby mall, so I won't be home a lot. You'll have plenty of peace and quiet."

"Great," Eric said, trying to hide his discomfort. "Thanks for showing me around."

He left the apartment feeling more uncertain than ever. Alex's demeanor had been off-putting, and he couldn't shake the feeling that living with her would be a constant battle.

Driving back to his temporary place, Eric weighed his options. Monica's apartment had felt welcoming and comfortable, and she seemed like a genuinely nice person. Cristal's place was unique and filled with positive energy, but the spiritual vibe might be too much for him in the long run. And Alex... well, Alex's place was the most affordable of the 3.

By the time he arrived home, his mind was made up. He pulled out his phone and called ______.
