A tidal wave of loot kicks off book 3. Help me out here.
Added 2024-12-13 16:42:34 +0000 UTCAlright, so I started writing Chapter 84 which is right around where we are starting book three and the exploration of Floor 6+, and I realized I need to come up with A LOT of new Relics for the party and it's slowing down the chapter designing and balancing. I've separated them into 4 categories if you wanna help. I even wrote in a basic guide for how I'm designing them.
#1: We have auction items. these are Sacrifices or Relics with 10-20 total stat bonuses, 1-3 affixes, and these items may be tailored for any character you wish, with archetype or Ability boosts that match them, because in the context of the story, the Party members are each sorting through a large pile to find the synergistic items they want and setting aside the rest. The ones they choose will be the ones written about and the rest will be a undefined pile because I'm not making up a thousand items, damnit.
#2: the pearls. These items are probably going to include 1 amulet/ring that suits Will, a coin with a weird dimensional effect, some personal effects of no value, and maybe a weapon or two. I need about a dozen random items of various power. All items will have dimensional effects of some kind or another. useful or just interesting. it was a gamble after all, so bad items would be appreciated. Dimensional toilet paper?
#3: Mark Wyrd's Rings+ amulet. 15-25 stats. 2+ affixes. focus on lifesteal, damage manipulation, status effect resistance, etc. So I need to finally define what those Relics do. Ideas that have been put forward are boosting lifesteal on taking damage (which I repurposed for the dagger of sublime retribution) and converting CC status effects into plain damage (which would be highly advantageous for his build to avoid getting neutralized by CC)
#4: Nephir Akul's relics. Rings, amulet, headband. 15-25 stats, 2+ affixes, each. Boosts to Nuker abilities and shield effects/manipulation. Yes. This is a huge windfall for Mason, because his Build starting point is identical.

Rings, Feet, Legs, Neck, Head, Hands, Torso.
As an aside, does anyone know where I can find a character sheet program online that allows me to fill in those exact slots with custom content?
Right now I'm using an Excel spreadsheet, and it's clunky. Will include it at the bottom. it's a bit... messy and incomplete, but still slightly useful. And it'll demonstrate how badly I need to change my strategy keeping track of equipment.
If we can't find a good tracking program, I'll change it to vertical information, 1 page per person instead of clumping them all together in a confusing list. Sometimes writing problems out helps me think.
As always, ridiculously overpowered items will most likely be skipped/nerfed, while interesting items will more likely be at least mentioned.
Items that aren't used directly go into the pile to fund the creation of a Stronghold on the 10th Floor.
I'm excited to see what kind of cool stuff you guys think of!

When the Concave side lands face up, the area the affected ability applies to increases the further it is from the user. When the Convex side lands face up, potency of the affected ability increases the nearer it is to where it is targeted. intentionally left out of description are downsides of reduced potency when spread over greater area and reduced area when potency increased, degree to which ability is affected increases with higher toss/more rotations, and ability to rig results by weighting a side down with charge.

IE: hold in your mouth for 30 minutes and bad breath is gone. When the coin is full. It will emit a whine and a glow. Then rapidly shoot all those bad smells out to it's immediate vicinity. You have no control over when it's full but do not be present when it goes off. And it's been ready to go off for a long time...

For one Charge, user may disable dimensional effects within 3 meters of the ring - this can be used to turn regular dimensional rings inside out if you want. If the resistance includes positive effects depends on how useful you want it to be.

For charge this dagger penetrates 1 layer of armor per layer of protection. For example, this attack can bypass the many layers of protection a Wyrd would have, with each layer of thorns costing a charge.

It would let her resist charm effects but severely weaken all her strength and regeneration. Kind of like an oh shit button for her.

You can reach into the opening to pull out more and more of the bag, but it will eventually catch and you'll need to reach in again for a new piece to pull on. It may have taken on some permanently knotted shape and be impossible to untangle. Or maybe it's just really hard.

You should hav access to it if you have excel You can create notebooks which have chapters which have sub pages. You can hyperlink between each and fill them with a mix of text, files, charts, etc. I use it for running D&D campaigns which feels similar to keeping track of a books progress including characters and enables you to easily link character pages with a click so you don't forget any connections they might have to each other. :) I'll try to think of some items but there are many cool ideas here already and I'm not confident in understanding your balancing tight now tbh

2024-12-14 06:46:05 +0000 UTCOn another fiction I read there was a 'curse of old wounds' - which I thought was brilliant - bringing that idea over to this universe, I'm thinking that If a priest like Steve were to have an anti-heal debuff like that, and you cast it at an enemy, and one of their past wounds (within a point bracket based on the casters level) could reoccur. For example, if Steve were to cast it on Will, he might get re-inflicted with that fugal spoor attack from the 4th floor. No attack needed, it just bypasses everything and manifests as an injury again. Not the spoors, just the injury. Turning it into an artifact, it could be an amulet or a bracer, or even matching arm guards, one heals, one casts old wounds'.

It is dull grey like lead with brass accents and a pebbles leather grip. +* To resistance +* physicality Expend one charge while blocking to negate the inertia of a blow against you. By striking a limb on the ground said limb becomes fixed in place for up to(stat/2) seconds. That one is for Reggie Hair comb of Synesthesia, a silver hair comb with mother of pearl inlay and prismatic blue gemstones inset. No idea for stats Allows wearer to apply bonuses and abilities intended for one sence to another at will. Causes escalating confusion, vertigo, and hallucinations to anyone who is looking at the wearer with hostile intent, the longer they look the worse it gets. This is ment for Alicia obviously, it would allow her hearing to penetrate walls but might also make her smell people's bones. For group 2: a. Dimensional storage ring but instead of the classic style it acts like a portable hole. It has a cubic meter of storage space but can only hold things that can pass through the finger hole of the Ring. When the ring is worn the finger is in the dimensional storage and disappears. I originally came up with this as a throwaway item, but it might be something that Will could find a use for. This next one would be good for Alicia or possibly June. A quiver of instant arrows. These arrows after being fired from the bow travel instantly to impact the target without crossing the intervening space. There would of course be a limited number of the arrows to keep it from being abused. A flower pot that actually contains a full acres worth of dirt. I think that one would be good for Loth as a place to house some of her insects. The only thing that I can think of for group 3 is a ring or something that allows the castor to put shields further away from themselves but makes the shield stronger the closer it is to the caster.

To offset how good this would be it would make all light effects more effective on Will, no matter whether those effects are beneficial or detrimental. Lunar for the 28 and light effect, chronos for time, and eel for before and after because eels have multiple metamorphoses in their life cycle.

Pants that give charm boost but the pockets are dimensionally enlarged when you reach into them (look like female pants...) 3. Map that you can keep unfolding to be able to write more on it (turning it around so you see the back lets you go up or down a floor depending which way you turn it) 4. Spatially enlarged shoes (These will fit no one...) 5. Massive ring that shrinks everyone/anything that passes through it temporarily (the more mass*volume it shrinks interconnectedly the shorter the durations and the more it is used after each other the less it shrinks until everything it shrank has returned to normal, such that having a stream of water going through it counts for using it a lot after each other and shrinking a gold statue doesn't last for long, because it is a ring it has to be worn) 6. Deck of cards that always remains full (if you pull a card out of it, it is in a juxtaposition where if you damage the card you pulled out you also damage the one in the deck as well as any other copies you pulled out of it, the deck is fully random and can't be shuffled, a card pulled out of the deck can be 'cancelled' by putting it back in, combining a full deck from juxtacopies allows that deck to also cancel or pull new copies, but the deck relic is completely broken if less than two cards remain whole in a deck) 7. Club that gain volume and mass for as long as you hold it (when let go it immediately shrinks even further than that its baseline depending on how big it had gotten, think of pulling an elastic band and it snapping back before being normal again, slowly enlarges) 8. Reading glasses that lets people focus on nearby text/objects and even 'highlights' any letters and numbers (the fact that alicia can see very far away combines with the 'focus on nearby text/objects' to let her zoom in while using them, the 'highlights any letters and numbers' lets her know there is text somewhere and by focusing where she knows is text and where isn't she can kind of eventually figure out which letters or numbers she isn't seeing) 3. High heels that lets her do more damage against anyone she is positioned higher than (checks their relative eye heights) 4. Sacrifice of a Flying Snapper (flying fish but then piranha/eel style) that lets arrows shot continue on their own trajectory for a while (like the arrow whistling from guardians of the galaxy) 5. Sacrifice of a Shadow parasite (invades your shadow and slowly debuffs you to death, preference for lifesteal and it has overheal for doing so) that either lets her attack through insubstantial means (such as shooting someone's shadow now inflicting damage, whereby any shadow connected to said shadow counts as their shadow as well for damaging purposes) or gives any injuries she caused a curse/parasite summon that slowly increases their debuffs and/or gives slowly increasing general lifesteal if the injury isn't treated. Mason: (eh let him have Nephirs shit I suppose) (current items I thought of makes him a high quality summoner, was interesting) 1. Amulet that changes his damage type to an adjacent damage type and is kinda random but sets itself after being worn once (adjacent such as that acid and fire both 'burn' but that fire and gravity have barely any adjacentness and as such isn't likely to be selected when worn) 2. Amulet that instead lets you spawn an elemental sprite, looks like navi from zelda, when trying to use an ability (the ability used decides the sprite's elemental type, personality and defensive/offensive/utility focus. Needs to be fed with the same ability through use of the amulet once per [time] and will disappear if the ability is used again but isn't fed to it. Limit on how many abilities give rise to sprites based on stats? Only abilities you can spend a charge activate this) 3. Ring that lets you spend a charge on passive abilities to slightly empower them temporarily (this ring lets passive abilities count as active for the amulet of type1Mason2) 4. Whip weapon that gives shielding based on the damage summons do and take with the active ability letting you deal full lethal damage to a friendly summon 5. Ring that increases the damage summons do as well as take 6. Sacrifice of an item/creature mimic, lets the ability assume a solid shape mimicing an item or creature, can shape them by focussing on them (this would either let him shape his fire or shields into items, lets the sprites shapeshift themselves into any usefull item, heat and such from any such ability shapeshifted items would count as friendly fire (literally if it is a friendly sprite lol)) 7. Sacrifice of a Glacier Whale (Looks like a regular glacier in the sea but then rises up to reveal it was a whale, grows semi solid ice on its back that hardens when it wants to rise and becomes far more fluid like water when it wants to sink) that lets abilities take on some properties of its semi solid ice (basically so the fire ability can become solid on Mason's will to either give burning blunt damage or become an impromptu shield) Loth: 1. Ring that switches the effects of a discovered trap with an nearby undiscovered trap (unsure if to make it only work on traps discovered by enemies and if to make it only switch with traps made by the wearer, and whether it needs an charge cost) 2. Kidnap ball, could come from group type 2, lets you capture entities and put them into a dimensional ball from which they can't escape if successfully captured, can be opened again to release said entities, all released entities are beserk and enraged and will only not attack their fellow kidnapping victims (all boosts and such from connected parties remain in tact of course despite them being beserk and enraged) 3. Sacrifice of a flesh golem hive queen (so you know how there are wasps that make their nests out of a kind of meat substance? What if a small colony of those instead made a flesh golem where they also attached body parts of deceased monsters/people to get a shadow of their abilities?) that lets her incorporate monster parts into traps that enact part of their innate abilities. Travis: 1. Panflute gauntlets, has wood/reed tubes on the back of each finger on the gaunlet that mesmerises one enemy type that hears it, they will then in a daze follow behind the user for as long as they play (they can also be mentally given instructions that they all will follow as long as it pertains to following a route and will not directly harm them, pied piper vibes) 2. Dastard's cape that instead makes any taunt abilities only target anyone that is behind the user while anyone in front instead gets the urge to make way/space for the user, gives minus charisma but makes people that lost sight of the culprit slowly forget them/forcefully lose their agro. 3. Sacrifice of a haunted puppet that lets him switch his taunt into a fear effect while also letting him move faster towards any feared target that can't see him anymore (creepy bloody haunted dolls and all that, moving when you don't see them) Reggie: 1. Boots that connects to whatever surface he stands on and makes him harder to move the longer he stands still, can cause part of the surface he stands on to come away with him if the effect is over powered however. 2. War banner that lets him use his protection effect on more people 3. Ring that gives him shield and damage reduction depending on the number of different damage sources (the damage absorbed from people he protects could count as separate than if the same if that same person that attacked them also is damaging him) 4. Sacrifice of the Hobo Crab (like hermit crab but bigger and can use everything such as buildings or ships as it shell, but is very aggressive) that lets him apply his own resilience partially/to protect the environment/boost the resilience of the people he protects (which would then of course also lower the damage he takes through protecting them) June: 1. Sacrifice of an wheathobgoblin shaman which lets her imbue her arrows with the 'spirit' of plants (such as giving her arrow poison properties through the use of an poisonous mushroom or giving her arrow penetrating/rooting properties through the use of a particular carnivorous vine) 2. Cape that lets her transform into the last animal/monster she has stained the cape with blood with, size difference is a factor that limits the transformations but there must also be enough blood on the cape (if the cape is washed, accidentally or not, then it is reset. When transformed only the cape will adapt to still be worn regardless of the size change) 3. Sacrifice of a munition ant that lets her shape other munition than just arrows so that will could also use them and/or so that she could make even more interesting projectiles 4. Sacrifice of the island tree (like the world tree but instead only keeps a floating island together with its roots, roots that will attack) that lets het take control of any flora she shoots/that has one of her arrows in it (if alicia uses one of her arrows for an arrow rain then June could control a wide range of Flora) Breanna: (no clue what would be interesting or would affect her build lol) 1. ??? 2. Amulet of regretful moments, reduces strength but increases will, makes the user remember the past better, especially important moments in their life, spend charges to have access to once more have access to a previous version of an ability (still have to spend charges on said ability and will revert to the current version after use, the further back upgrade wise the previous version is the more charges you have to spend to access it) 3. Ring of delegation, spend a charge and divest a portion of cc effects and/or debuffs upon an ally/summon/clone, while in exchange giving them strength and focus for a separate duration. Will: (could basically be anything that gives opportunity for interesting synergies lol) 1. Swordhilt that with a charge absorbs materials it touches and uses it to form a temporary swordblade (could make the phantom hand 'solid' and maybe even absorb other relics which strengthens/shapes the blade depending on what physical stats the relic gave) 2. Turtleshell shield that disperses any force the user receives over a far wider area (given newtons laws, will standing somewhere exerts pressure on the surface he stands on and vice versa, thus improving his aspect) 3. Lamp that gives light and anyone that sees it feels compelled to look at the light 4. halved scissors (so only one blade) that form ethereal copies beside it that slash the same target, the ethereal copies can combine into full scissors which can very easily break cloth relics and cut through other thin planes 5. Sacrifice of a fake serpent (you know, those limbless lizards?) for I suppose aspect that makes him stand out less as different (but only in a bad way?) and also gives more environmental protection maybe 6. Boots that form a small platform under themselves but can only do so once after having been on the 'ground' (Will could extend these platforms to the surface area that aspects provides as well as have these platforms rise up to meet his feet once again if he jumps off of them, temporarily forming a flexible barrier wall, he could also have the ground rise up to meet him to once more activate the boots) 7. Sacrifice of the poltergeist, gives the ability to still affect items if recently touched/if there is a link (for either phantom hand or titan's grasp, PH so that Will loses his own relics not as easily, for TG if taken so that he can pick up further away items using TG and not just weapons/items in his hand that PH would struggle with) 8. Piercing Root spear (of island tree monster) that lets you feel vibrations through the area you stand on around you, has an active that lets you charge forwards as long as you are touching the ground. 9... for any more I need more inspiration for a direction for these lol fun to think of these, a pleasure

It all depends on what role she will have in the party going forward. A necklace that is shared between duplicates that allows 1 other piece of gear to be shared out of slot so 1 split has one less item but all the others benefit of an extra. Would play into the dimensional aspect of the oyster auction items. Could also make something that does the opposite and buffs many merging to one like a mega zord but only for a certain time after a merge. Could have the merge speed up to make splitting more realistic in combat.

All items in destroyed storage effects released into immediate area. Potential troll/strategic use; load with lowest value coinage to absolute mass limit, give to annoying/enemy person, let them destroy their own holding item and be instantly buried in nigh-useless currency. For Will? Loth? Someone else? Supporting Cameo (amulet/necklace, small keepsake) Maybe stats? Originally party buff aura equip, previous owner kept their lover's picture in it (which provided no effect, was just for the usual not-magic reasons). Due to dimensional shenanigans while stuck in oyster/pearl, mutated to gain small storage for one picture of wearer's lover which makes that person the recipient of a buff copying wearer's stats (either flat or scaling percentage based on acuity/whatever). Possible restriction in that wearer needs to have romantic feelings/attraction for person whose picture is stored to restrict gaming it too badly (pet build having their battle pet wear it and gaining pet's stats wouldn't be allowed, would have disturbing implications if it worked). Also shouldn't work for narcissists storing their own picture, unless you decide it should for teh funneh. Obviously not intended to be final-use descriptions, tweak/rework as wanted/needed if you even feel they're worth using.

For Reggie Mutated Anchor Boots: Normal version being boots that prevent being knocked over/away by anchoring the user to the ground these boots will allow users to spend charge to send incoming damage up to a maximu value directly into whatever they are standing on for a few seconds. For June Spatial Quiver: Dimension Oyster empowered Quiver that will allow all ammunition inside to be empowered by spending Charge. Upon striking an enemy any other empowered ammunition gains X degrees of correction towards the same target with X scaling off of Acuity and every subsequent strike by empowered ammunition will deal stacking damage based on the previous number of successes.

What about an item that charges based on the amount of people taunted and when it reached a particular threshold it launches an aoe psychic wave that stuns people for like 10 seconds. - For Reggie, something that lets him go invuln for one second. That could increase his skill threshold, now when he target someone with his TOFT he can go invuln during a huge hit, and tank it fully. - June: An item that let's you combine summoned arrows them to make even nastier arrows. Or some item that lets you shoot it in the air and release an aerosolized can of buff mist on the team. At least that's the way I currently understand her kit and build, considering Alicia is the super offensive archer.
