3rd floor suggestions
Added 2024-08-01 15:35:08 +0000 UTCThe third floor is coming up soon!
It is a lava/fire biome. the smoke is thick, the heat is suffocating, and the air is noxious.
What kind of creatures or special environmental hazards might it contain?

Have William surf on a giant flat rock on top of a lava tsunami and landing on a raid boss or something. The whole thing needs to originated from a trap set by Loth

2024-08-02 08:58:36 +0000 UTCTiny tiny nebulae of little sand grain sized suns that float randomly in orbit around around each other. Walk around one, fine, walk though, a cautorise hole appears though you.

2024-08-01 23:27:17 +0000 UTCSome kind of enemy that can absorb heat to heal/power itself and maybe after fighting it for a long time the cold around it could overpower the heat in a small area and create a mini frozen area which could even be a defence mechanism as people will be geared to resist heat and will be ill prepared for sudden cold damage. It could be built to fight in this altered climate.

2024-08-01 23:25:38 +0000 UTCMaybe some wandering earth/fire elementals? Creatures that can’t obviously die from a noose trap or something but take increased damage from magic based attacks or a phantom hand

2024-08-01 22:37:17 +0000 UTCA slowly moving zone of formidable impressive dessication. No creature with water can survive long. Open water cannot survive. None. All fleshy moist creatures wither. It gets sucked from you. Impossible to prevent. Incandescent heat yes, but dessication too. Deep within, there is a creature, dumb and huge, it wanders aimlessly thinking of sad poetry for it's long lost beloved, just exusting sucks moisture from all who accidentally gets nearby. What else rhymes with 'melt'? Is it's deepest thought, while absentmindedly killing thousands with its powers. (Plot twist - William teaches it Lymerics, a new amusing option gives way to the creature chortling - the zone becomes not dry, but oppressively tropical humid hot)

2024-08-01 22:32:25 +0000 UTCAn island covered in green grass and trees with normal looking animals. Sitting in the lava like it's perfectly normal. If you step on it, touch it, hover too close to the top of it, you die. The end. Nothing happens, it's just instant death. There's also a baseball diamond, with a perfectly clear pitchers mound etc

2024-08-01 19:43:16 +0000 UTCConstantly burning coal seems underneath the land would make an interesting alternative to the tried and true lava world. Have slagged and some still working oil derriks and those are spraying piping hot crude oil at people.

2024-08-01 19:01:19 +0000 UTCMassive geodes of sparkling crystals which are (possibly) valuable? Perhaps that could be for a cave, or maybe even the location of a settlement/mining operation? Sort of similar to all that salt from the second floor.

2024-08-01 18:51:24 +0000 UTCAlso - it would likely mean that the #1 trade good from floor 1 to 2 would be water, if there's no reliable source of it >.>

2024-08-01 18:39:03 +0000 UTCI mean, the obvious choice is Kobolds - maybe the dog-like variant rather than lizardling, so that Loth can be disgustingly racist about 'em >.> But that would just be evil and so few people would get through the traps that it'd be the bottleneck from hell. Salamanders. Imps. Burning Skellingtons. Goats. It'd be hilarious of every floor had some goat variant, actually. Goblins. Fireys of the "Labyrinth" pull off your head variant. ROUSes. Underage succubuses that are a huge taboo to interact with in any way. But the way I'd do it is to design the biosphere. What's the life-cycle like. What grows here for food? What eats the food what exists? What eats the crap produced & breaks it down to return to the cycle? What's the water analogue?

2024-08-01 18:34:42 +0000 UTCMaybe something like an antlion, that undermines areas to drop them into lava, cooking the person, then eating them.

2024-08-01 18:25:46 +0000 UTCLava/Magma Spiders. Webs weaved from molten fluid held in shape by a peculiar magic, which lets spiders cross smoothly, but burns and partly envelops prey.

2024-08-01 17:08:27 +0000 UTCOil elemental that hides from other creatures to avoid igniting. Extremely hard to find as it tends to live deep underground. Pearlescent(sheen of oil slick) for its look but as it gets farther down, it becomes darker. Tries to suffocate people that find it to prevent more from finding out

2024-08-01 16:42:26 +0000 UTCHot air and smoke? Gotta have some politicians then. Nothing blows smoke or pumps out hot air like an election cycle. What would be fun is seeing some sentient salamanders that are also consummate slow cook bbq lovers and have design a burrow that has different temperatures for different cuts of meat.

2024-08-01 16:41:45 +0000 UTCOnes that burn away leaving seeming safe empty land only to eventually surge full again and reignite, while the fluid is gone there is a rich swath of land to be harvested for rare resources and creatures

2024-08-01 16:34:19 +0000 UTCWell, of course people will mention fire salamanders, magma golems, rock elementals, dragons and so on. Classic but a bit boring. How about smoke elementals and ifrits. They use their natural abilities to obscure the way, throwing up a literal smoke screen, to lure climbers near the lava pools where they'll die from the heat. Maybe add a magical component: If you breathe in the smoke, your senses get muddled and you become confused. Many climbers died on that level not because they were slain by a monster but because of dehydration after getting lost in the smoky maze. Or beings made (partially) out of ash, who use it to generate a static charge. This allows them to shock people who come to close. For a visual, google "chaiten volcano lightning". Flying opponents who utilize the updraft from the heat. Perhaps something that couldn't ordinarily fly but on this level it can? Some sort of fire chicken perhaps? ^^ Depending on how real you want to keep it... maybe a monster that actually swims or hides in the lava. The entire environment close to it would be far too hot to effectively fight there unless you have very potent heat resistant artifacts. This could be a situation where new climbers have to evade those monsters because they couldn't possibly reach them while high level climbers who can weather the heat have better things to do. Or maybe make those monsters out of gems. Ruby, sapphire etc. Extremely valuable but it's very rare that they get slain.

2024-08-01 16:03:45 +0000 UTCUmm.... What about perfume toads? Toads that live in enclosed spaces (lava tunnels, etc.) and produce a gas that displaces the noxious fumes in the space with seemingly-breathable air. While technically non-toxic to breathe, the gas is laden with pheromones that make anything that breaths it in subservient to their new toad overlords (think hypnotoad from Futurama but the hypnosis is through a chemical medium, not a visual one). The only sign of anything amiss with the air pockets is a faint perfume-like smell that only scout archetypes are likely to sus out. So climbers are minding their own business and think they've found a safe smog-free place to set up camp, only to wake up to a magnificent croak the next morning and declare their undying loyalty to their new toad master.

2024-08-01 15:49:39 +0000 UTCTake some inspirations from the deep sea nasties that live in/around geothermal vents. Like Pompeii Worms are pretty horrifying on their own so why not one that's twenty feet long.

2024-08-01 15:48:43 +0000 UTCFloating poisonous pufferfish that deflate like woopie cushions, leaping fire gophers, and maybe smoke elementals and magma golems. Ash storms could be a thing to avoid along with the obvious geyser of super heated gas and liquid.
Dlandis
2024-08-01 15:48:23 +0000 UTCSome sort of weird grazing creature that eats fire. Let them have some super farmable resource like heat resistant wool, but make it so if you kill too many the fire grows out of control because they aren’t grazing it back. Plenty of angles for economic weirdness, messing with weird hillbillies guarding their flocks, etc
Michael Presley
2024-08-01 15:47:25 +0000 UTCFluffy creatures that swim in the lava. They can vary their fluffyness to increase and decrease their buoyancy at will like a pufferfish to sink or pop out of the lava. It could be that the fluffyness is an illusion caused by a barrier that it creates around itself which either attracts the hairs or is emitted from the hairs. Other dolphin-like lava animals play with these creatures as toys when given the chance.

2024-08-01 15:46:44 +0000 UTCSome ideas: Geysers of superheated water or magma, with high enough pressure to lift landmasses, and steady enough to keep them airborne An active weather system where rain falls and instantly turns to steam, creating steam storms Swarms of bugs which look like flickering flame until you get too close

2024-08-01 15:39:48 +0000 UTCDefinitely fish and crocodiles in the lava. Like, a normal ecosystem but based around lava instead of water. Not too much magic from the floor enemies, since it's just the 3rd floor, but definitely fire, lava, and ash magic stuff.

2024-08-01 15:39:42 +0000 UTCFire Crocodiles. Everyone always does salamanders, but Gators or Crocs are scarier, different, and appropriate. Lava environment is basically a fire swamp.

2024-08-01 15:37:29 +0000 UTCI’d say to slow walk the craziness. I’m not sure how many floors you will have, but it’s important to not accelerate too much because there won’t be anything left for later
