About the Armory (Not a chapter)
Added 2022-08-14 12:52:18 +0000 UTCThe armory was always a McGuffin to allow me to put Perry in situations where he would not have access to his armor.
Unfortunately the suspension of disbelief snapped at the end of last chapter for some of my sample size, which means it was going to sit poorly with others.
I'm going to be doing some minor edits tonight that change the tone of the armory's presentation.
1: Rather than being required and strictly regulated, it will be convenient and customary to house bulky power armor and mechsuits there because it's the most convenient spot and armored in case something goes haywire.
2: the commander not unfolding the armory at the end of the last chapter didn't make sense if he was going all out. I thought to include some extra weapons native to the train that can come with that, which give the armory a sense of purpose.
Once I' done with that, I'll probably write half a chapter with a giant anteater sticking it's tongue into the train and scooping people out with it... =P

I’ve figured it out! The armory is there so Tinkers are less liable to get stuck in the Twitch working on their armor/guns/etc. and being waylaid in an attack. I think it works with in world logic while not having the people running train security seem dumb at.

2022-08-22 15:50:58 +0000 UTCIts exatly because of Supers that need no extrenal tools that the armory should be as restricted. Creating an unusual power-imbalance could very well tempt people to take a cheap-shot or two while they are in close quarters with someone who usually would match or even surpass them in power. The Armory should really be only to store stuff like ammunition or replacement armor, like in Perry's case, or equipment that takes too much space, like overly large Mech-suits for example. Also, intentionally weakening the Off-duty Supers more than necessary can easily result in unnessesary deaths in situations like with the spider turning the cafeteria into an imprompto Acid bath, or if a giant anteater tries to slurp out the train.

2022-08-15 11:42:39 +0000 UTCIt also makes sense from the perspective that you have capes & cowls forced together in a tight environment you don't want lethal weaponry available to them when they're off-duty. Basically you're dealing with people outside the normal power structures that usually have the equivalent of "Does not play well with others" tattooed across their foreheads. Perfectly reasonable to take away their toys when not needed (although how you'd then prevent a powered individual who doesn't require external force multipliers from doing a Homelander I dunno, I unless there's a suppression field or similar running).
