Curtis Augustus Hope III.

In 1993, aged 17 he joined the US Marines Corp, following in his father's footsteps. In December 1995 he was part of the small team of Marines that landed in Boznia as part of NATO’s Balkan peacekeeping deployment.

Whilst stationed in Hawaii, he met a young 19-year-old girl called Nalani. Soon the two were inseparable. Within two years they were married and had a daughter, whom they named Kelly.

In November 2001 he was part of the 15th MEU (SOC) which conducted an amphibious assault in Afghanistan. Eventually securing the Kandahar International Airport for a new forward operating base for allied forces to proceed.

In October 2002 he honorably left the US Marines and for a brief period was a stay-at-home dad.

In February 2003 he became a Police Officer.

Life was good for Curtis and his young family.

However, things would change,

In December 2003, Curtis, Nalani, and Kelly were out shopping for presents when a drunk driver mounted the sidewalk and sped toward them Curtis managed to save Kelly but Nelani was struck. She survived but died several weeks later from her injuries.

The next several years were a struggle but Curtis, with the help of other close family members and friends, continued and his bond with his daughter became stronger and stronger.

In November 2008 he and Kelly watched history be created with the election of the first Black US President.

In 2013 after serving 10 years in the Police he decided he wanted to join the Secret Service. Within a year he was sworn in as a Secret Service Agent. For the next several years he was on several protective assignments. In 2019 he became part of the team assigned to protect the 44th First Lady. Within a short while, both he and the 44th formed a bond and soon he became her favourite agent. In some ways, she reminded her of her husband. She was also moved by his story.

Skipping to the present day.

It's Kelly's 26th Birthday and like every other day, she is at work preparing for her standing for the House of Representatives in November 2024. She knows that her dad is working so isn't expecting him to visit.

However, the 44th knew that it was Kelly's birthday and insisted that he visit his daughter. She also insisted that she accompany him.

And it was going to be an informal visit. Kelly had met the 44th First Lady before but in more formal circumstances.

This time was going to be different.

After all, it was Kelly's birthday.

Kelly was surprised to see her dad whom she believed was working. Even more surprised to see him so informally dressed.

She was beside herself when she saw who was with him.

A little out of his comfort zone, Curtis agreed to have his picture taken believing that the other two, both being mature and professional persons would behave accordingly.

However, they had other ideas....
