Temple in the Forest 3 [24x36]

Hello everyone, map pack number 189

We reached the lost temple at noon on the fourth day of travel, the area was more of a young swamp than a real forest, so all that remained was to find a way to cross the waters and, finally, explore the temple of the ancient people of the forest.

We were looking for treasures, we were also convinced of finding them, we did not think of finding ourselves in the middle of a diabolical ambush

Premise

As I have written in the past, I am concerned about the widespread use of AI to generate maps quickly, many authors sell maps of this type, generated in a few moments, despite those who instead spend hours and hours drawing them by hand.

But that's how it is, progress cannot be stopped.

I think that AI can be useful and supportive in many ways, even to those who, like me, prefer (and will prefer) to draw by hand. I use AI in many ways (I'm mainly a programmer), in this case I liked the idea of starting from a generated image and then "transforming" it into a hand-drawn map.

I hope this result is satisfactory and I ask you for your opinion on whether this could be an interesting path to follow.

I also attach the image generated by the AI:

Having said that, the final map of the month is a lost temple in a partially flooded forest that is turning into a swamp. You have to cross the stagnant waters to reach this ancient building among the trees

Alternate versions have differences in layout or in atmospheric and environmental conditions.

Enjoy this map pack!

Thanks. I knew about that one already. I guess I really need to sub to that one and play around with it. Keep up the awesome work! I think I am going to be using this map soon for an upcoming session.

it's Midjourney

What AI tools do you use? I don’t really see the harm. It seems like a wonderful short cut and way of getting inspiration. I am just starting to try and leverage AI for my own DM prep and trying to find tools that do what I want them to.

Thanks for your reply too. I mostly agree, that's why I prefer to exclude AI images for now

I'm sorry but I support you because I appreciate your skill and talent for map making, but I believe an element of that will be lost if you incorporate AI into your process. I really hope you do not continue to use it in your art.

I think if you're using it for something you would not otherwise have done (as I do when making NPC token art) it's ok. If you're replacing someone else's potential work then it isn't. Sometimes it's difficult deciding where to draw the line.

Mongoose

I like having an image of the map as seen by the characters

thank you for your answer, it is exactly the feedback that I was interested in, understanding how this choice would be interpreted and your answer makes me think a lot. I do not consider myself an illustrator and I do not have the skills to create scenes of my maps, it is my limit. And perhaps it is right that everyone accepts their limits Thanks again

Oh and for you're picture itself: It looks okay. I like the vibe of it, but I would never use it in an campaign I think. Because when Ai art is clearly recognizable, it takes a bit of the illusion from me. And if you continue the usage of AI, I might consider to stop supporting you like that. Because with using these tools and giving money to companies who trained their models with stolen art, then you are part of the problem in my eyes.

Since you're asking for opinions: I dislike the usage of AI. It's a bit weird to see that map artist or musicians use AI to make Pictures of Concepts for Covers of n album. Non of them want to be replaced by Ai in their own field but if you replace an artist from another field, it's absolutely fine by them. That's pretty egoistic of them if you ask me.
