Hello everyone, map pack number 179

Royal Explorer's Journal, travel day 37 of the third month of travel.
We are taking measurements of the large chasm adjacent to the village, the inhabitants swear that it already existed when they started building the first houses; I want to believe them even if I have doubts about their honesty. The walls show clear signs of excavation and also appear to be recent.
However, I wonder where all the removed earth and rocks are, furthermore there seems to be an opening under the surface of the water, I continue to investigate.

This map is connectable with maps 174 and 175 of the past month, this place is just outside the small village and features a strange and enormous hole in the ground, apparently dug by someone, perhaps the villagers themselves?

However, the road continues westwards, perhaps the explanation lies further ahead, and the next map could reveal the reason.
