How I draw grass and trees quickly

Hi everyone! I'm working on the new map, but today I want to post a small tutorial to show how I draw trees, grass and bushes very quickly.

Based on a brush I created in Photoshop!

1. Paint a simple curved line, like this

2. Save it with EDIT > DEFINE BRUSH PRESET...

3. Now you have a brush and you have to edit the BRUSH SETTINGS (press F5).

Settings:

-- Brush tip shape: set Spacing to 80%

-- Shape dynamics: set Size Jitter to 25%

-- Shape dynamics: set Angle Jitter to 0% and control to "Direction"

-- Shape dynamics: set Roundness Jitter to 100%

-- Shape dynamics: set Minimim Roundness to 100%

-- Smoothing: activate it

With this brush and these settings I can draw very quickly the lines, an example:

How to fill with colors? I use this method:

0. I assume you drawn a Tree Shape in a new layer

1. Select the MAGIC WAND tool

2. Click somewhere outside the drawn shape

3. Expand selection with SELECT > MODIFY > EXPAND and I use

4. Invert selection with SELECT > INVERSE

5. Create a new layer and bring it below the previous

6. With the PAINT BUCKET TOOL fill the Selection with a color, like green

DONE! Actually I draw with this method and I feel good, if someone has to recommend a better system write it with a comment!

If you want tutorials... tell me :)

for now this method is the fastest and the one that works best And if you record a macro/action (expand setted at 1, inverse selection, fill with color) it took about 1 second :)

ikr, I felt a little like a tool reading about the brush trick lol. Why didn't I think of that!

yeah, that's true. What about ctrl + click on the thumbnail? I wonder if that would work. Now I kinda want to try it, but don't have the layered file to try atm... I still think your way is probably the best way of doing it though.

Ahah yes, It is precisely because I felt silly that I sought an alternative method

Filling from inside sometimes doesn't work perfectly because there are more intersections of lines inside And yes, it's very important that lines are connected to fill, this is becaus I use 80% spacing

Now I feel silly drawing everything manually :D This was a nice trick

Cool trick with the brush settings, I wouldn't have thought of that. About the background fill - would it work if you duplicated the grass line layer, filled it with green with the bucket tool and brought it under the original grass line layer? It might bleed all over the place though, unless you have every outside grass line connected.
