Development Survey (Public)
Added 2019-01-28 11:01:51 +0000 UTCAs I've been developing my game for well over a year now, I'm curious to know what you as players deem important regarding the development of adult games/VNs.
I've posted the same poll as a patron-only post as well, as patron preferences might differ from the general public. If you're a patron, feel free to vote on both.
You can select multiple options if you want. Also, as a disclaimer, the contents of the poll are not necessarily indicative of possible future changes in the development process.
Please use the comments section if you miss an option or want to explain your choices a little further. Feedback like this is always valuable!
I'm curious to see what the results will be. Thanks!

To me, the story line and character development are very important. Any story that has a weak plot and mediocre characters never work. If I want to watch dead beats, I'll watch CSPAN.

2020-01-01 15:17:45 +0000 UTCIt is just a personal thing, but I enjoyed the lesbian and other scenes in Sisterly Love that were part of their own side stories, without the MC always present. Added depth and filled out the characters a lot for me.

2019-03-03 18:06:39 +0000 UTCSexual content is VERY important. Not this one, but WAY too many of the "adult" games on Patreon are blue ball fests. You shouldn't have to play 3 hours to get to a sex scene.

2019-02-05 10:59:35 +0000 UTCthis is a very difficult question to ask really, but personally i prefer sexual content in my adult games, that being said, making the characters interesting also helps a LOT. I like my taboo content as well. animations depends, will it cause too much stress/take up to much time? i won't go through all thge points you put up but yeah, just sorta my 2 cents

2019-01-30 04:05:08 +0000 UTCBoth polls have proven to be good ideas, I really like all the feedback that has been left so far. A character creation system is a great idea, but only works with real-time graphics. It isn't properly feasible with the pre-rendered images encountered in most VNs. I've experimented with animations, but it negatively impacts my workflow far too much at the moment and I'm not sure if the end results would be up to scratch.

2019-01-29 15:38:42 +0000 UTCI think people don't like to see the MC's face because it breaks their immersion. People enjoy imagining themselves in these scenes and seeing a pre-rendered face not to their liking doesn't help in that regard. Having a character creation system is the best bet but is that even possible for a VN? Probably not and why do it just to satisfy the few who would make use of it, right? Regardless, I'm happy with how you do things. It would be nice to have more animated scenes but I understand how much more time and skill that takes. I've tried learning SFM and Blender myself and both have proven much too difficult for me. Thanks for taking our thoughts into consideration!

2019-01-29 15:35:49 +0000 UTCObscuring the MC's face during sex scene is a little challenging, but kissing is the worst when you can't show someone's face. First Person kissing is indeed a little awkward as the other person is opening her mouth and sticking her tongue into the open air instead of the other character's mouth.

2019-01-29 08:24:43 +0000 UTCSmall comment along with my votes ie: Seeing the MCs face. I'm ok with not seeing it except in one single instance, kissing. There has never been a VN/game that I've seen that has first person kissing where its looked good. Is this something thats deal-breaking? Certainly not, I can (and do) live with it. But I would ok with seeing, at the lest, the MC's lower face in a kissing scene.

2019-01-29 03:36:31 +0000 UTCThis crops up in reviews for AAA games from time to time as well. Where the player is robbed of any agency in a cutscene where the protagonist has to make an important story decision. Of course a lot of decisions means more branching and more development time, but to a certain extent it's essential for immersion.

2019-01-28 19:53:25 +0000 UTCComments on 2 choices. First, choices should matter. Making choices that have at least a little influence on the MC's actions makes it easier for the player to identify with the MC. The more the MC acts the way I would, the better. The more he does things I wouldn't do, the less I identify. Second, I voted for monthly updates. I might accept an occasional month with no update, but if a dev has trouble making quality updates while still making monthly deadlines (due to day job, life, etc.), then I'd prefer he(she, they) change to per update pledges.

2019-01-28 12:35:10 +0000 UTCWhile I am totally pro-gameplay in general, no gameplay is still better than bad gameplay, and in games like this even an okeyish gameplay is something out of the ordinary usually.

2019-01-28 12:07:44 +0000 UTCJesus, 0 people for game elements, I'm not surprised really, they're usually awful. I don't really like them either unless they're actually games, like, MC goes onto computer or console, mini-game can be skipped or played but it's easy to play if you feel like it, having them interact with the story would be ideal, like you can choose to skip playing the mini-game and have like two options, either choose to win or choose to lose for the narrative.

2019-01-28 11:25:29 +0000 UTCStory and characters are likely the most important thing for me, although you still need a little bit of sexy content to keep things fun! Really loving SL, the story and characters are so well realised.
