It depends, I've seen them done a couple of different ways. The first I think is more common, where the audience participation is totaled up to a deadline, and then the subject gains based on that, which can lead to either very subtle or very large changes in between parts. The second is more like a "milestone" campaign, which lets the artist predetermine how big the subject will be over time and they get "unlocked" due to audience participation as those milestones are reached. Both have their benefits but it just depends on what kind of drive you'd prefer to do as the creator.

2025-03-19 11:21:32 +0000 UTCI think the weight gain drives that are engagement driven (like for 1lb, favorite for 5lb, etc.) on open platforms like deviantart can be good for for reaching new viewers, but I don't think they are typically very financially viable over say just doing a series of progression pictures and posting them in free spaces with the option to view up to the current image in your paid spaces

On one hand, you could have these sequences where the gain is entirely dependant on the audience which greatly increases the theoretical cap. On the other, you could need to cap the size so you don't become uncomfortable making it. I personally enjoy weight gain drives, but it's your call.
