I can see that being true in your case. You're reading it, but not actually following along to what you're reading because maybe your focus is elsewhere (e.g. making these bookclubs relaxing for us to listen to). I can't say the same thing for myself though. I have the second book -Words of Radiance, but haven't started it yet.

That is such a good way of putting it! Expository more than evocative. I'm so used to action pulling me in and it being more about the feeling of it, rather than drier explanations... though he still ends up confusing me with that stuff (the first chapter with Szeth and how he describes his powers and everything going upside down, etc.)

Ok glad I'm not the only one! Though I think @hiyahoyhoy was right about it being more difficult to read aloud and stay immersed in the story. But I was confused during that spot too - he's mowing down everyone but him? He never even tries to swing at him? Idk, I'm sure he gets better through the series - at least thats what Tyler has said. Have you read the other books in the series?

I get confused with Sanderson's action writing as well. Years ago I read another series of his called The Reckoners and I got so lost into what was happening at times. I thought it was just me and that particular series, but after reading The Way of Kings, I still feel the same way of being lost. In this chapter, the battle scene made no sense at a certain point. For instance ***SPOILER FOR THIS CHAPTER*** when Kaladin hurls himself back onto his feet/throws a dagger, the shardbearer swings his sword (somehow misses Kaladin?), and then it says that Kaladin lands on his feet. Huh? I thought he was already on his feet. Everything after that kind of made sense, but there's still flaws in the writing. Whether I read it myself multiple times, or listen to you read, I'm still left confused lol 😅

okay so after finishing the read. Take the shardblade and try to make a change! My gosh that was quite a read tho. I feel like I have a hard time most times trying to imagine the fights when im reading, but when you read it it made it easier for me. He does seem to write in a confusing manor maybe? Idk but man how does he become a traitor after this?! Thanks for the reading, hopefully you'll find a comfy spot to read and i hope the steam machine works out for ya <3

Excited to jump into this! Been able to catch up at my own pace! Glad it’s been picking up and getting juicy

How do you feel about how Sanderson writes action scenes? Sometimes I can’t really picture it or I get lost, but I also got lost with JK Rowling so maybe it’s just me 😆 Thanks for joining me! Have no idea how kaladin ends up a traitor after that 🫠
