Showing off her inner Trekkie

Was watching original Star Trek and this costume came on screen. I think, as an adult rewatching the original series, I've come to the realization that Gene Roddenberry was kinda a horny man. Star Trek was often kinkier and weirder than people remember, and much of that stuck around in parts of the later series that followed the original. I dunno if there's space for a truly kinky Star Trek again but maybe there should be?

Anyway, it's been a bit since we saw Suzie. I figured Colette could've cosplayed this, and filled it out better, but Suzie's a character that I should like to draw more often.

I remember reading (I think it was in "The Making of Star Trek") that TOS network censors forbade Theiss from showing the underside of a woman's breast. I bet it was because of that, that in the *very second* episode of Next Generation Theiss put Tasha Yar in a costume that *only* showed the underside of her breasts ... as revenge.

David Gerrold wrote about the "Titillation Factor" in driving what they now call viewer engagement... "Will she fall out of the dress or won't she?"

Considering Gene was known to have had multiple affairs with the female members of the cast, and even ended up marrying one of them, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say he would be a bit of a PR nightmare if he was still around these days. :D

i wouldn't say that exactly; he was absolutely the sort of person who claimed to be a polygamist just as an excuse to sleep with people while in a relationship with someone. that was the situation with both majel barrett and nichelle nichols while he was still married though i hadn't heard that much in that regard about the TOS crew? i know grace lee whitney left the show because of an assault by someone on the production who she never named, but i didn't think it was a broad thing across the entire production team. bleh :/

gene's story was always that The Cage wasn't picked up as a pilot because it was "too cerebral" this was something the executives said, yeah, but one of the more significant criticisms they gave was that it was too erotic; that was why they used "Where No Man Has Gone Before" instead of "Mudd's Women" as the second pilot, even (the specific thing they called out as an example was the "scantily clad green dancing girls with the humps and grinds", which is just an amazing phrasing, but honestly the entire episode might as well be a fetish parade) star trek's always been very horny, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar

To be fair, it was the 60s/70s. EVERYONE was horn back then.

Roddenberry was *absolutely* a horny hippie. There's a story from some of the TNG production cast about Gene running over to a producer in a panic, only to remark, "I need to see a doctor, I could only f*** three times today...!" And even with that he was still some the least sex pest on the TOS staff.
