May being cute! (plus some thoughts on commissions)

Nothing too exciting, just some character sketching I did of May. I had realized that because I'd been drawing her getting trapped a lot, she got left with a pretty upset face most of the time. For good reason! But I think for her character, and the setting to work, she's gotta be somewhat good humored about every ordeal. It makes things that could be terribly frightening, and disarms them a bit if she doesn't have an expression of mortal peril. Course... I might lose the peril audience there. But that just means I gotta find a balance. The idea is to keep things cute. It's not a serious story at all.

Hey, so some of you guys might have seen me start discussion on my Patreon but seeing as I'm planning on getting a "new" car, (I might be getting a used one or signing a lease agreement) I decided I'm going to start doing limited commissions for Patrons. This will likely be a thing every few weeks or so.

I'm going over the details right now but I'm planning on drawings with limited complexity, but also I'm going to try to make it easy to reach me with commission ideas. And I'm hoping to prioritize patrons that haven't gotten commissions from me, yet. No guarantees I'll open it soon, right now I'm dealing with how to organize my own records and to make commission inquiries more formalized and fair. I don't want to make it just about people being lucky they caught me at the right time.

So uh, long story short. Small simple commissions for patrons, only a couple slots at a time, that are balanced towards getting commissions for people who've been waiting forever. I hope it will work out.

That’s interesting, I’d not heard of that second thing but that makes sense.

I would absolutely love to have a commission from you, and I think I have a character who would really suit your style. Edit: Cause enter doesn't just line break... fine. As a car service guy, if you are low miles, a lease is probably not a bad bet. You won't get past the warranty, so no surprise repair bills. As a secondary option, I would suggest looking for a used vehicle at a dealership not associated with it's brand. So look for a toyota at say a bmw dealer. We used to get a lot of trade ins of other brands, and since we didn't really have anything to compare them to, we generally just slapped a low price on them to move them off the lot. It may let you find a really great deal in a place you normally wouldn't look for one.

So can't respond to responses but it sounds like lease might be good for you! Keep your gap coverage and treat it like a subscription service and you'll be good!

I seriously drive maybe 2k miles a year. I'd considered just using mass transit or ride sharing but that doesn't work perfectly in this area.

I drive EXTREMELY few miles a year which is part of the reason I could put off getting a newer car for so long. Like I'd have to make a road trip from new York to California and back to get close to 10k miles a year.

I'd love to get a commission from you! Looking forward to seeing the post on that. As for a car, I've had success with a lease, but I also drive less than 5k miles per year. If you drive a lot, like Patrick said, you can get boned on overmileage penalties.

First off: Happy New (to you) car! Now for the less fun bit... Former car salesperson here. Unless you drive very few miles per year please don't lease a car. Over milage penalties for leases are outrageous. Get a nicer used car instead. Something about 5 years old will usually be close in payment to a lease too.

Patrick

Looking forward to it!

Oooh, commissions... And don't worry about May. Her being cute just gives a nice contrast with her peril face :D
