Added 2021-05-08 10:01:00 +0000 UTCI was pretty happy with how these came out, especially the masked version. It's not my favorite Cassandra Cain face I've drawn. I admit I wish I was more consistent about drawing one character's face across multiple images. But this one was good enough for this purpose. I wanted to exaggerate her eyes, so there would be a lot to work with on the mask.
Now you know I've drawn a couple latex hoods in my time, but when I draw Cass I have to fake it quite a lot. Cass' hood is kinda impossible in a number of ways, especially when artists have it showing the curves of her lips or even her brow. A face just can't contort through that much material in reality. But in comics? I think it's better to be able to read her especially when she's a main character.
The sharp inky blacks also look really good across her face. It gives her an instant noir style of lighting that is really awesome to look at. You don't get that with a lot of anime characters or even most of the Batman type heroes. Unfortunately when people draw her, they tend to forget to draw her emoting. She should be scary and cool, but she's also a very emotional character.
