Oh wow, I think I ended up liking the one without any background colors a little better than the one with the background effects. I originally painted it with the colorful splash in mind but the one with the white background really makes the lineart and coloring on the characters pop.

There's something to be said about doing lots of preliminary art. It's often better to find out these things BEFORE you commit time to creating a background or trying to make something work that before you're sure it's the best option you have.

Well... regardless I wanted to experiment a little. I was playing very fast and loose with the lineart here and I THINK the effect is still something I like. It would be more than enough for a comic panel, for sure. And I think the overall time to produce was less than what I would spend on a comic panel.

I think though, a big part of trying to get my production up to speed is getting over this habit of slowing down for comic work. When I put the art into these neat little squares, I've got a lot of things I'm trying to consider. I need to consider the story telling, the acting, all that stuff while making sure the page is legible. But I tend to slow down so much I lose a lot of energy.

When it came to making a fanart for Astral Chain, it was gonna be nothing BUT energy. The game is pretty awesome at that. I think I'm not the best person to review the game. I'm playing it on casual difficulty and having a great time. But if you want to know more about it, you should check it out on youtube. It's a WILD game that feels great to play. Just what you'd expect from Platinum.
